On my galaxy, I have the left bottom shortcut as the phone app, but every time I swipe it, I have to enter a password before accessing it. but I notice when I swipe on my right bottom shortcut ( I have it set as camera app) I don't have to enter a password. how can I open the dialer app without having to unlock my phone?
Its always been like that, nothing you can do.
Wouldn't be a very secure phone if you could make calls without unlocking it
Taking photos isn't exactly a terrible thing to be able to do with someone elses phone, you can't access anything other than the photos you have taken anyway
Not totally related, sorry OP, but is there a way to make a phone number in a contact, not only "default", but the one the dialer "always" use?
I guess there's a third party dialer that can do it, but the one I'd like, Google dialer, I haven't found a way to install without root, which I still, if ever, don't want to do.
This's such a basic feature, I wonder why Samsung reject it.

That's from the contacts app. I mean from the dialer app.
At least for me, even with a phone number marked (on the contacts app) as default, when there are other numbers, always asks me to choose from one of them. Everytime.
Google dialer, maybe others, has the option to make a number default with a check box. And forget about it.
Thanks anyway.

You have to try after upgrading your "Android security patch level"
I hope your problem will solve by doing this........

Basically having seen the top 10 thread I thought that a thread where users reccomend just one app with a brief reason why.I will start
APP:Handcent sms
REASON:Fantastic app for messaging.Works better than the stock app for me.Also very customisable.Regular updates also and never experienced any issues of any kind.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
APP: Contact Widget ABC Dialer Light
REASON: Good app for quick dial, solves the slow dialing problem but for only 6 free contacts, if you want 12 you have to pay. Only bad thing is you HAVE to have a photo of a contact to dial them and you can't customize looks of the widget yet, it's white and non transparrent.
WEATHER=Palmary weather app
download from palmary's site its the best and only weather app you'll need
I can't live without SuperDial. It runs circles around the stock SE dialer. I can't believe SE would put so much time and effort into customization and then completely ignore the stock dialer. Searching your contacts is overly complicated and even when you do finally get to the contact you want, it's like 17 clicks to even dial the number.
Yeah....SuperDial all the way. Best of all, it's free.
As a side note, there appear to be 2 different apps called SuperDial now. The one from episode6 is the correct one.
i think its time people get the "Goto" app -although it aint free-
its a lockscreen replacement app..
1) allows you to place any name you want on the top bar
2) includes date/time/weather temp -although im not having no luck with weather temp.-
3) ability to change phone volume from loud to vibrate to silent without even havin to unlock!
4) the swipe itself is like a swipometer.. you have messages, then call logs, then gmail and finally unlock..
5) Ability to change background image - although could do with being able to customize other features!
only saw SE swipes twice.. so far!
1st - when someone rang my phone whilst it was in lock mode.. swipe needed to answer
2nd - when i put passcode on, i thought id test just pressing the back key instead of entering my code.. and lo and behold the SE swipe showed up! lol.. i really find these as minor issues..
although i dont think this was meant to happen im actually glad it did lol basically when the lockscreen shows, if u keep hold of the home button, it shows the 6 previously used apps which you can go to without the need to unlock although once you back out of the app you chose to view, your back to the lockscreen again lol
for those who are bit off about the whole unlocking and then passcode thing, i just tried a quick test now and i can say when this phone is in lock mode, you can jus press home key and draw ya passcode and your then taken to homescreen also holding home key doesnt show previously used apps here so no worries about anyone bypassing security!
wasnt meant to be a huge review lol but though id cover most of the points so it makes it easier for people to decide!!
Hope it helps!!!
:::Edit:::
all buttons cause screen to power up during lock mode!
Ive attached a screenshot of my X10i lockscreen..
Uninstaller
reason: Uninstall stuff.
from where can I get the goto APP Search on the market but I didn't found it
goto
i found it and purchased it from android usa market... love it works great but all buttons cause screen to power up
Had to add that bit to my review.. guess its not really a good sign is it :-(

Have you tried ThaiDial?
I found it to be better but superdialer is still way better than the one we were given with the phone. I didnt like how in superdialer when someone called me it would show their number with a 1 in front of it and then list it differently as the contact in my phone book
I'm quickly building up a huge number of emails and messages that I've dealt with on my phone but then have to manually delete from the watch. I appreciate that one can clear all data from each notification type, using Smart Connect on the phone, but I'd love to find an app or a command that would automatically clear all data (messages, notifications, etc), say every 24 hours or so. Or failing that, at least something which would allow a quick, more elegant way of manually clearing the watch. Can anybody recommend anything? Many thanks.
You could use the Smartwatch2 app on the smartphone, enter the menu of each SW2 installed app and tap Clear all events, Clear history or Clear log, etc.
It's not really comfortable but at last you don't have to perform this operation directly on the SW2.

Thanks. Yeah, that's what I'm doing at the moment, through Smart Connect on the phone. But I just counted; in order to clear email, messaging and Facebook requires 17 commands. It really does surprise me that a more elegant system is not built into the watch. Surely everyone who owns the watch wants to be able to clear away (or to have cleared away) messages as they're finished with. Most odd.
You go into the notification app in your smartwatch then push the menu button and after the option to clear all the notifications (the open letter).

What exactly do you mean by "the notification app"? If you mean the little orange circle that indicates new notifications; those disappear anyway as soon as they've been looked at. But the notifications still remain on the watch, so one still has two go into each app in turn (email, text messages, Facebook, etc) and clear them. However, pressing the open letter does nothing at all. The notifications remain. The only way I can find of deleting anything with the watch is message-by-message, individually, including confirmation step. Or, as in my first post in this thread, data can be deleted using the phone through the "Smart Connect" app.
I didn't understand that you wanted to clear all the datas (and not the notifications) in the watch's apps.
In that case, yes you must do on the phone through the smart connect app.

Thanks. I guess it's the term "notifications" that's confusing. What I want to clear, regularly, preferably automatically, are my email messages, text messages, and Facebook messages, so that those apps are empty. What I'm hoping to find is an app or a macro command that will either clear those messages automatically, or will allow me to do so in one go, rather than - as is the case at the moment - app by app through Smart Connect.

HI there. Any idea why can not clear the notifications...noway?! So now I've to reset it each time, but sometimes this is also not possible!
Any help is welcome.
Thanks in advance,

Hi...
I finally got the phone 3 days ago, but noticed that when i get incoming calls i can't use the phone untill the call ends or untill i answer it, what stopping me from playing / writing messages of even use Facebook app untill: 1. I answer the call. 2. I ignore the call, and wait for the other person to hang up.
I had other phones that i could just press the "Home" button and continue with my things.
Is there any solution for that?

grab version 17 or newer
Great thanks
But the problem is that i think i have to root the phone, because even after installing the latest version and allowing permissions to the Dialer app i still get the calls from the default HTC original dialer.. Im using the last version (17)

you need to go into app settings and make google dialer the default phone app
Iv'e put the dialer as default everywhere also in the app category, it still only shows the calling icon on top of the screen, also won't show any contacts names when incoming calls..
Did you got this to work in your phone perfectly?
Aren't there any other apps that can be used instead?

Yes it works perfectly.
Set as default, enable all permissions for it and it will work fine. Plenty of us are using it without any issue. What do you mean by "only shows calling icon on top of the screen". That sounds like the google dialer which is what it is supposed to do and not take up the entire screen.
I don't know, it just wont work properly on my device, i did all what you said above and restarted the device and still.. i only get the icon on the notification bar at the top of the screen when call enters.
I gave up and downloaded "Drupe" - wonderfull app really does the job well and also looks great (cost me about 4$ - worth it), better than the default HTC's app.
Thanks for the help!
You have to go into setting>application>Phone>application>Phone application, select the app you installed, then you may see the different calling screen when you call someone / receive a call. (not a football fan so installed normal v17)
Hi all!
My GM1910 is on OOS 9.5.11.GM21AA.
The dialer app doesn't show me the options to "Call Recording" -> OK, as I understood, this is region limited for legal purposes. Makes sense. - nor "Caller Identification". -> This is still a mistery to me because although I read it is region blocked too, with google dialer we have it everywhere... - Is this ok? Will it be back?...
One other thing is, when I search a contact inside dialer app, when I pinch on it it won't automatically dial, it opens the contact and I have to pinch on the phone number to start a call... Is there a way to make it call directly on first touch?
Last thing... No swipe to dial option, right?
Thanks in advance,
Best regards.
Tried jONEPlus Tools already?
When I use facial recognition to unlock and app, after my face is recognized, before I can go into the app, I get a screen that is showing a message: "Verified. Tap confirm to continue". I am trying to get rid of that message and avoid the unnecessary extra step to press the confirm button before I can access the app. I am told by an app manufactured that it is a setting on my Samsung S22 Ultra with Android 12. But I am coming from an old Pixel phone and cannot find this setting on my new 22Ultra. Can someone direct me to the setting to turn off that extra step after facial recognition works? Thanks!
Sounds like you've installed some 3rd party app that does this. The default S22 behaviour doesn't show this message.
I can see you asked on other fourms, and they suggested things I was going to say. But it seems like some third party app is either doing this, or enforcing it.

Yes I posted on another forum but no solution there yet, just a few good suggestions that don't work. I don't have any other apps that enforce this behavior though. And I pressed support at RoboForm pretty hard about it and they insist it is not something in their app even though RoboForm is an app that it happens in. I am thinking it is when certain 3rd party apps are opened using face recognition, the Android system does not acknowledge those apps for some reason and pops up the message to do a 2nd confirmation before it will allow the apps to open. Thanks for the reply.
Have you tried unistalling Roboform to test if that fixes it?
I have found a few other apps that call up the exact same message so it is not just Roboform. I did uninstall and reinstall Roboform today for another reason and called up a health record app that does the same thing. It happened in the health app even with Roboform uninstalled.
I think we have determined that it is a system message. An app may call it up or trigger it when using face recognition but it is not generated by the app itself. If we knew what it was called then it would be easier to track it down. within Android or the Samsung settings. if it is even in the settings somewhere.
Yea, it's likely going to be a system message, that is called by certain apps in certain circumstances. But the only way you'll find it is to remove apps a few at a time until it stops appearing.
I get the same message and have looked everywhere for a setting. It doesn't exist. Pretty stupid behavior for sure.
Is there a solution? I have the same thing with Microsoft apps. So stupid..
Try: Settings, Biometrics and Security, Face Recognition, And untick: Stay on lockscreen until swipe.
For me, double tapping the screen or using the power button to wake the phone, triggers the face unlock which then quickly unlocks the phone with no other input.
Is this just one app, or all apps?
