Would you recommend this phone to a friend? What about G4 - LG V10 General

I am thinking about a new device, and currently the v10 is at the top of the list, followed by G4. I ruled out Sony for various reasons, and I am all done with Samsung.
If you could buy and used device between 150-250 what would you get?

i don't recommend it
firstly it can't be rooted
secondly it has the death issue of lg g4
my phone is dead without any reason and i bought it less than 1 year ago
stupid LG

Death issue?! What's that please
I thought people could root it if they unlock the bootloader?

not all V10 models can be unlocked the H960A can be unlocked this is the European model only and i don't know if there is others
and the death issue is popular now betwen the V10 user suddenly the phone won't boot without a reason and can be fixed if you have warranty and with bootloader locked only and mine is dead.
in the conclusion don't buy it

I have the t-mobile variant, this one can be rooted without problems. Phone is snappy, camera is great, no sudden death issues here. Definitely a good buy. I came from a g4 before and both are very similiar(except for the bigger screen, more ram). Both are great phones but the G4 is plagued by the sudden death issue.

I have the Verizon variant and it spontaneously died. I was 5 days out of warranty. Luckily LG fixed it under warranty. I love the phone, but the limited root/unlock and sudden death syndrome I would not suggest it.

[Q] Void warranty and rooting

So I was wondering whether or not I should root my phone, and i remembered that rooting voids the warranty.
My last phone was an HTC one v, which i cracked. I called customer service and told them the phone had software problems and asked if i could get a new one (it was unlocked and rooted) and it worked. Granted, i did have insurance on it.
I'm curious if that would work if i cracked my moto g, would i be able to call them and request a new one if i had a "software problem" and i was rooted. Would it make a difference if i relocked the bootloader? Btw i have a us gsm one.
Has anyone ever tried "beating the system" and how did it go?
P.S. dont judge me okay, i'm sure some of you are wondering the same thing.
I know a guy who got his XT1032 replaced, cos the eMMC, died a week after he bought it. He had the bootloader unlocked and rooted (actually he was running CM11).
But that's in the UK, no idea really how the things are in the US.

Hello to everyone. lg g2 ATT. the situation is bought on ebay. when the phone gets hot it crashes and reboots and then doesn't react at all until it has cooled down. The person I bought thinks that this is due to the firmware update. Guys please help what to do???
I'd do a clean factory reset but it sounds to me like a combo of software and hardware if it's sold on eBay which is mostly from a not reliable 3rd party
Like someone suggested try doing a factory restore, if you can connect it to your computer and look up for a thread in the AT&T section on how to restore back to stock. If that doesn't help out then it's the phone that is doing that. I'd do it as soon as possible because ebay has a grace period

Does the Moto G XT1031 (Boost Mobile edition) support unlocking of the bootloader?

I need a definite answer because I plan on purchasing one. And I'm getting mixed results when looking my question up on Google.
Thanks in advance.

Awesome. So I shouldn't have any issues unlocking said bootloader if I bought one used from a reputable seller on Ebay?
I apologize for bumping. But apparently Motorla customer support says that it's not unlockable. Why is there conflicting information? There are folks who have unlocked bootloaders and others cannot get said bootloaders to unlock from what I'm reading.
From what I have read and done on my XT1031 from boost, shouldn't be a problem, because if I am correct, boost only has one version the prepaid XT1031. I would just make sure to get model number before purchase and if its the XT1031, I don't see any issues. On a side not I somehow deleted my entire rom, and only had Twrp on my phone and pc wouldn't recognize it, thank god for OTG cable, now running solid on Unlocked bootloader /twrp 2.8.6.0/ and CM 12.1, great little phone

There's gotta be a reason they're selling them for dirt cheap though, right? The Verizon ones are being sold for very cheap. And I know for a fact that they're not unlockable.
The Boost Mobile Moto G XT1031 is absolutely bootloader unlockable. I've personally unlocked 4 of them.

So the support rep lied to me... Don't know why they'd do that... Anywho, I placed an order and if it's not unlockable, then I'm going to return it. Thanks for the reassurance.
As already stated the boost Xt1031 is 100 percent without a doubt able to have the bootloader unlocked. As for why they are selling dirt cheap I believe its because for all intents and purposes it is being phased out. Most retailers in my area don't carry them anymore. Online is a different story but the phone is nearing 3 years old. Motorola is on the 3rd gen. of the G hence most sellers with any inventory are trying to dump it while they can get at least something for it.
Don't get me wrong I love my moto but honestly I can't remember the last time I had a phone this long before its life cycle was over.

I personally want a phone to tinker around with. That's all. My 2011 HTC One S is starting to show its age. I really don't get why some carriers lock down their devices *cough* Verizon . Especially if they refuse to ship out updates in light of the stagefright exploit. Any vulnerability should be taken seriously. Anywho, thanks for the reassurance, fellas. I appreciate it.

Seller told me do not upgrade this phone 4.4.2 to 6.0 why?

I bought a LG g3 32gb refurbished at t model. And this phone has clone imei. They put some other phone imei number to my phone. Seller said to me if you upgrade this phone you are going to loose your imei number and your phone may not work after all. But is there any other way? Because I don't want to use this phone with Android 4.4.2 some apps didn't work on this version. And seller also said some customer upgrade it and phone screen stop working. How can I upgrade it without any issues? Thank you.

I would return it as it's been tamperered with. It's probably not even a D850 AT&T model. It could be a Sprint model for all you know. And yes updating or flashing firmware will destroy anything that was changed rendering the device either useless or dead

Sir I am sure it's original. I compared another g3 and and also checked antutu results. But I am afraid if I upgraded it my imei will be erased. That's my main concern. Thank you.
Help anyone?

You cannot know the actual model of a device UNTIL you've taken the phone apart and looked at the motherboard. Antutu can only read what the software tells it. But yes as I stated if you upgrade it / flash a firmware it will erase any modifications that where made. As well as since you said the seller said they lost touch screen access that also tells me it's not a AT&T model. That happens when flashing a incorrect model firmware.

I only know it's not a replica. My brother has the same phone and he bought from LG store. They are exactly the same. Screen quality speed camera vs even mine is faster because it has 3gb ram instead of 2 but being stuck on Android 4 is really bugging me. But I guess I can't update it. But is there any way to open an apps that needs Android 6 on my phone which is android 4?

I'm NOT saying it's a replica, I'm saying it's most likely a DIFFERENT model. This is extremely common and the user won't know till they update or flash an firmware and they found out there D855 or D850 is actually an LS990 Sprint model rigged to work with GSM. There's more than one model of the G3. Only differences being modem, carrier stuff etc.
Sadly you cannot run software meant for newer versions of android on KitKat. I'd honestly return the device.

I bought this device half the price so it would make sense to return it. Antutu says it's a d850 but I don't know for sure. What happens if I just updated it like a regular g3 if it's broken can I bring It back? Thank you by the way for all your infos.

How much was half price if you don't mind me asking? The G3s are already pretty cheap. Yeah Antutu will say whatever the software installed is. I can change the build prop and make it think it's a Samsung device it's simple to do. If you updated it you'll loose whatever IMEI modifications where made which also tampering with which is illegal you wouldn't be able to bring that back.

In Turkey lg g3 is 1200 turkish liras. Minimum payment is 1300 turkish Lira by the way. I bought this phone for 530 turkish liras. So I am gonna use it anyway but updating it would be really nice

Ahh okay. Ouch things are a little pricey out that way. That's around $148 American. The G3 normally goes around $100-$150 and $150 being mint condition.
Not sure why the seller was selling it with a fixed imei. If it's bad or blacklisted that only applies if your using the phone in America having a bad IMEI wouldn't affect you outside America for that phone.
I'm going to guess it's most likely a Sprint model. But only true way is to look at the motherboard of the device.

Turkey government demands 200 turkish liras on every phone exchange for imei. And without imei you can't use the phone as you know. That's why people start to made their old phone's imei to their new phone. Anyway thank you again I am going to use this phone with kit Kat.

Since the IMEI is the digital serial number of the device - I'd be pretty suspicious of the transaction. That's like buying a used car and the seller is telling you that they filed off the original serial number and put a new one on the car... Sounds like an illegal scam.
Sir I have a different problem now. My phone is shutting of instantly. And won't open when I press the power button. I am removing the battery and putting back than it start working. And few minutes later it's doing it again. But some days it doesnt do it at all. For example yesterday it did it 6 times but today it didn't happened yet. What can I do? Is that a hardware issue? Is there anyone who had this problem?

Look at the list of available Verizon devices, get their model numbers and then search to see which of those model numbers are rootable.
If you can use any unlocked device then just search for rootable devices that Verizon will allow in their BYOP program, if they allow unlocked devices then take your pick of any of rootable devices they allow on their network. You can even choose a device that is not only rootable but has custom ROMs available also.
