hello
this seems like a dumb question but after a 100 tries and no luck i m risking asking the question
i have a mate 8 NXT-L29C636B170
I have managed to unlock bootloader
install TWRP
but failed to root and update it for only one reason i cant access to internal memory or sd card in windows.
I can t copy any files in the phone so i cant copy superuser.zip nor update.zip
I have installed hisuite and a usb driver pack for huawei mate 8 without luck
in the same time TWRP shows me enter password for description each time i launch it.
regards
When you connected the phone to PC did you slide down the notification area to choose MTP (files or photos) instead of just charging?
A password in TWRP is needed when your internal storage is encrypted. To decrypt you have to do something different then just wipe, can't remember what is was ATM but there's a YouTube around here somewhere.

I think you need USB drivers for your phone. You can install them through the Hisuite program, download it from the Huawei site:
http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/HiSuite_en/index.html
You can also try to install the correct drivers with SRK tools, it's somewhere here on the forums, google it.

i was trying to root my phone i done it and i am trying to install a rom to it
after that i twrp and delete all files.
i have files still in my pc can someone help me how to put some zip in the phone because my pc cant detect my phone anymore.
thanks guys
Try re-installing the proper drivers for the device and also try to boot to fastboot and check if it detected. And if it does so, try restoring to official firmware.
If you can buy an OTG cable and try a pendrive. An OTG cable is a life saver in case of Mi4i since it doesn't have an MicroSD. If you haven't bought it yet, today maybe the time
If you have installed the driver. The copying from TWRP only works sometimes.
If you rooted then you must have used Fastboot so the drivers are there.
As hunkerpunk1 said install default ROM via fastboot using MiFlash.
Also if you are going to install CM12.1 or any custom roms here. You're phone must have MIUI 6 installed before not MIUI 7. So flash MIUI 6. Then root it and flash TWRP. Then install the ROM. This time copy the files inside the phone before hand
Please check if you're able to go into recovery (TWRP, NOT Stock), if answer is yes, you can use the mount option to copy those files again into your phone.
You simply need to :
1. Boot into TWRP
2. Connect the phone with PC (With Proper drivers installed)
3. Select the MOUNT option on TWRP Recovery
4. You'll see the prompt on your PC that Mi4i (with some Chinese words prepends) detected.
5. Copy the ROM & Gapps in phone.
6. BOOM (now I'm assuming you know how to move further)
I tried lots of ways to root this tablet.
Finally succeed.
This package contains a modified kernel. It is required to let the tablet boot with modificated system drive.
After root, you shouldn't update your firmware. You could end in a bootloop.
Thanks @kostyamat. I used his way to root this tablet. But needed to edit most of the files, to get this done with our tablet

Turn on ADB-debugging: "Settings"-"About Tablet" >-> Taps under the item "build number" until the caption appears "you became a developer"-> Return one step back-> enter the item for developers "-> Enable" USB debugging ". A popup may appear on tablet. Set remember and press ok. Also enable OEM unlock.
Connect the device to the PC.
Install the Intel driver IntelAndroidDrvSetup1.10.0.exe
ROOT
1. Unlock_Bootloader.bat - Run first. It will unlock the bootloader. Carefully follow the description of the script and on the screen of the tablet. ATTENTION! All settings, programs, as well as all data on internal SDCard will be destroyed! Data on external MicroSD and Windows will not suffer. After unlocking the device will reboot in factory recovery, which does not display anything (stupidly black screen with backlight), the process may take up to 10 minutes, then the device will reboot into Android.
Tablet is now reseted, enable ADB Debugging and OEM-Unlocking again
2. Outside_boot-TWRP-recovery.bat - The device will be rebooted into the temporary session of TWRP-recovery, to Internal sdcard will be placed UPDATE-SuperSU.zip - install it using TWRP. Previously, you can make TWRP backup (recommended!)
3. Flash-TWRP-recovery.bat - (It is optional) TWRP-recovery will be permanently flashed into the Tablet. (Not recommended! Some time firmware will update, TWRP cannot install OTA-update)
4. Flash-ORIGINAL-recovery.bat - (It is optional) Flash back to the original Recovery.
ENABLE EXFAT & NTFS
SuperSU is required for this!

Can't read SD card after flashing hi10pro-android-fs-1.0.4-install.zip
Hi there. Thanks for your information. I purchased a Hi10pro recently with the newer chipset. The bootloader was already UNLOCKED. I managed to load TWRP and rooted my tablet. I then flashed hi10pro-android-fs-1.0.4-install.zip and now it wont read the SD card.
If I put the card in another device I can see the data.
I ran a TWRP backup before I flashed hi10pro-android-fs-1.0.4-install.zip but it is on the SD card.
Any ideas on how to fix the problem?
Which partitions would need to be reflashed to be able to read SD card without losing my tablet data?
Looking forward to your response. Thanks
My chuwi hi10 pro doesn't get detected in adb or fastboot mode. I can't even connect it in MTP mode. Charging works fine but. Any help appreciated.

Hi guys, no idea?
I'd like to create a new thread on installing TWRP and rooting Android Nougat (7.x) on version B360 of the Honor 8. All the threads I see are people frantically trying to restore their phone to their previous glory. To keep people from asking "will this work on yada yada model, *I* have a FRD-L04 which is the 32gb unlocked SINGLE SIM variant sold locally at Best Buy here in the states and I'm pretty sure the FRD-L09 is the international DUAL SIM version with 64GB and I believe firmware for both of these are different? If not, please correct me. The process should be the same for all variants, but the files used will be different.
I want to update this OP and keep it as up to date as possible. If we can get 3 or more people to confirm a certain process works in this thread, I will update it with the proper links to all tools/files/versions of TWRP and SuperSU as well as firmware that's needed. I think I currently count eleven different threads all over the place on this and would be nice to have it centralized. Let's help out and get this phone going with a working root on Nougat!!!
Here are the questions I propose:
1. What is the actual steps to root the Honor 8 running a FULL STOCK version of B360 (Android 7.x)?
A. Unlock Bootloader (This process should be the same as always)
B. Flash TWRP (Which version?) This should be a simple flash with fastboot
C. Flash SuperSU (Which version?) This should be a simple flash with TWRP
D. What are the current issues with this process? (encryption issues, formatting, unable to access the Data partition, etc)
E. How to revert back (and when I say back, I mean ANY working state of Nougat (Android 6.x) or Marshmallow(Android 7.x))
F. How to install extras (Xposed for example, etc)
If I can have answered the questions above, I will clean it up and move it over to the guide section. As it stands now we have no guide. We just need clarification on what works, what doesn't and the process.
Also, PLEASE be kind to those who don't speak English as their primary language. The Honor 8 is an international phone and I see many people getting angry because they don't understand or don't follow instructions correctly because the OP didn't clearly state what they did. Let's help each other out!
Here's an example step by step for unlocking the bootloader below. This is what I'd like to do for each of the questions above.
A: Unlocking the bootloader (UNDERSTAND THAT BY UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER ALL YOUR DATA ON THE PHONE WILL BE ERASED AS IF YOU'RE PULLING IT OUT OF THE BOX FOR THE FIRST TIME)
1. Go to Huawei's EMUI site and log in. If you need to create a new account, do so. Link here: http://www.emui.com/en/plugin/hwdownload/download
2. Click on the DOWNLOAD link at the top of the site.
3. Underneath the search field you will see a green link that says "Unlock Bootloader". Click it and follow the instructions. You will be asked to enter in several pieces of information about your phone.
4. Once you've filled out all the information, you will receive your unlock code at the bottom of the screen. Write this down and save it. This number will NEVER change.
5. On your Honor 8, go to Settings > About and tap on the Build Number seven times until you unlock the Developer Settings.
6. In Developer Settings, check Enable OEM Unlock.
7. Scroll down a bit more and check USB Debugging.
8. Go to Huawei's site and download their HiSuite and install it. This installs the OFFICIAL Honor 8 USB driver. Link here: http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/HiSuite_en/index.html Once the app is installed, you can unselect start with Windows under settings.
9. Plug in your Honor 8 with the provided USB cable. Give it about 45 seconds to install the driver and recognize it. You may need to go to your phone and tap on "Allow File Access". You will be presented with a question asking if you'd always like to trust the computer you just connected to. Select yes, if this is your primary computer you will be working with.
10. Now download the most up to date ADB drivers. A Google employee has created one link to get that and make it easy. Link here: https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools.html
11. Open the zip file you just downloaded and create a folder on your computer easy to get to (I recommend c:\ADB) and paste those files there so they are extracted.
12. Now open the folder up in Windows Explorer if you closed it and hold down the Shift key and RIGHT click in the open area and click "Open command window here"
13. Type adb devices and hit enter. You should see a device ID as a response in the window.
14. Type adb reboot bootloader and hit enter. Give it a couple of seconds and the phone will load the bootloader.
15. Now type fastboot devices and hit enter. You should see your device ID appear again.
16. LAST CHANCE before it wipes everything and unlocks the booloader!!! Type fastboot oem unlock XXXXXXXXXX (where XXXXXXXXXX is the unlock code you received on step 4) and hit enter. It will ask if you're sure. Once this is done, the phone will wipe your data, unlock the phone and reboot. Your Honor 8's bootloader is now unlocked.
B. Flash TWRP (Which version?) This should be a simple flash with fastboot. This is already discussed in another post, but I will put here for reference.
1. Grab a working copy of TWRP for the Honor 8 here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70893767&postcount=408
2. Download TWRP into the same folder you used in step A above (where you're keeping all your files)
2. Navigate in Windows Explorer to this location and hold down the Shift key and RIGHT click in the open area and click "Open command window here"
3. Type adb devices and hit enter. You should see a device ID as a response in the window.
4. Type adb reboot bootloader and hit enter. Give it a couple of seconds and the phone will load the bootloader.
5. Now type fastboot devices and hit enter. You should see your device ID appear again.
6. Type fastboot flash recovery frd-twrp.img and hit enter.
7. Once this is complete, unplug your phone.
8. Hold Volume UP and Power at the same time. Release ONLY the Power button after the blue Honor logo appears.
9. You now are booted into TWRP and it's been successfully flashed.
C. Flash SuperSU (Which version?) This should be a simple flash with TWRP. This is a crazy process because of the encryption on the Data partition. Below is the exact steps I can confirm works from the help of others on here.
1. Boot into TWRP
2. Once there, when asked to keep system read only? - swipe to allow modifications
3. Tap Install
4. Tap Select Storage - Select your SD card
5. Select the supersu file "SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815-EMUI5.0.zip"
6. Swipe to confirm flash
7. Ignore the multiple errors: "Failed to mount '/data' (Invalid argument)
8. Go back to the main menu
9. Select Reboot to Recovery
10. When asked to keep system read only? - swiped to allow modifications (again)
11. Tap Wipe
12. Tap Format Data
13. Type YES then hit enter
14. It will format data using make_ext4fs..
15. When finished, tap Reboot System
16. Reboot back into TWRP
17. Swipe to allow modifications (You can check the box to never show this again)
18. Tap Install
19. Select storage
20. Select your SD card
21. Select the supersu file "SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815-EMUI5.0.zip"
22. Swipe to confirm flash
23. You should see NO ERRORS now when installing SuperSU
24. Wipe cache/dalvik
25. Swipe to wipe
26. Reboot system
Once here, you can download root checker and it will verify you have root access - BUT.. see section D below!
D. What are the current issues with this process? (encryption issues, formatting, unable to access the Data partition, etc)
Some applications like Root Checker will verify that you have root. Other applications will even prompt you (like any of the basic quick reboot apps that easily let you back into recovery) but other major apps like BusyBox and Viper4Audio (when asking to load the driver) will simply fail upon installation. I'm not sure why, since you have R/W access to both the system and the newly unencrypted data partition. I'm really hoping someone can help with this one!
E. How to revert back (and when I say back, I mean ANY working state of Nougat (Android 6.x) or Marshmallow(Android 7.x))
F. How to install extras (Xposed for example, etc)
I know and have done A, B, and C, but as for the rest I'm not too sure about those.
Maybe in the wrong section but thank you.

Yes, but twrp read it as ext file, i tested both format f2fs and ext4, i dont feel any different between those 2.
Yes, you can changed the data format to f2fs with twrp but if you reverted back to MM, its requred to changed the data to ext4 format, if not, you'll get bootloop. (dont know if its twrp bugs or not)
Worst scenario, you'll lost all stock recoveries and everything.
I've been there... Lol

Are you saying I can format /data with F2FS to remove the encryption? I am assuming TWRP does not support the encryption yet. Bootlop sux but most important stuffs on my phone is stored on the SD card anyway so it's not too bad to start over.
Maybe it's just me but it seems encryption adds a bit of risks when playing around with rooting. Has there been a scenario where you *can't* recover from bootloop permanently?

So far, i've experienced with bootloop and no recoveries available,
As long as you have fastboot mode and bootloader key, you're safe.

I am afraid of running into this issue from a fellow xda. The person still doesn't have a solution. https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/help/encrypted-data-mount-t3537645
I'm running into issues with Bluetooth activation, and previously NFC, which i fixed by reflashing the hw_update package, but still no Bluetooth.
I've followed each and every single step on this guide, and BT was working perfectly before.
Any ideas where this may be coming from ?
Still, thanks or the guide
For the SuperSU instructions, you don't have to reformat /data. Yes, TWRP won't be able to access it, but you really only need that for making full system backups. You can access everything in /system/ and then ADB push to /data/ after boot, or fastboot flash an image to /data/ from bootloader. It's not ideal, but it saves you from having to wipe out your configuration.
I'll echo the above poster, as long as you're bootloader unlocked and can issue fastboot commands I'm not sure you're truly bricked. Worst case scenario you ought to be able to flash individual partition images to recover, I unpacked the Nougat update zip to extract the partition images and I've been using those when my tinkering results in a bootloop -- corrupted boot and corrupted recovery I fixed easily.
Hello. Im coming from general topic on Honor 8 rooting but my issue is related to Android MM.
So i had stock EMUI 4.1 (Android 6.0) which i unlocked, flashed TWRP and SuperSU.
Today EMUI 5 (Android 7 ) update came by air so i installed it. After update - no TWPR neither SuperSU.
I enabled Developer options and saw "Enable OEM unlock" switch in OFF state and grayed out (impossible to switch ON).
So now i cannot flash TWPR as fastboot gives error "Command not allowed".
During boot phone says that it is unlocked, FRP lock. Otherwise it boots and works fine but no root.
Any solution possible?
Thank you.

Well i guess if you follow it step by step there won't be any problem. If you get stuck at some point just comment here. And installing adb is just like the normal installation of any setup files in windows.Regarding the flashing of twrp there is nothing much to do than the steps mentioned above. If you still need a video go for this.https://youtu.be/kmq2Eyzl3wA NOTE:This video makes use of files for the sd410 model,so don't use the files in that video.Get the files from this post. This video can make you familiarize the process, but steps mentioned here is slightly different.

There aren't any custom roms available till now.Try using xposed modules for improved functionality(serves the purpose of custom rom to great extent).

Try using gravity box after installing xposed framework. There a lot of graphical tweaks in gravity box.
Internal Storage Files Missing
After I flashed TWRP and then entered it, it asked for a password to decrypt my storage. I didnt set any password for my phone so I pressed cancel after which came the TWRP menu. But once I selected the install option so as to flash the supersu file, I was unable to find my zip file in it. When I searched for solution, they said it was because my storage is encryted that I was'nt able to acces the data. They adviced to format data through wipe option in TWRP. But still no use. And to add to the problem, when I tried to reboot into system, I was left with a black screen and couln't get to the homescreen.
Please consider my problem and hoping for your fast reply.

Boot back into twrp home screen - WIPE- FORMAT DATA , after that, also from twrp , REBOOT-RECOVERY, after that, go ahead and flash the root file and then try to boot into home screen.
Place the root file on an external sd card.

I guess you have copied the super su file to external sd card.Formatting data as mentioned by jide1 did remove the encryption for me.If it doesn't work do advanced wipe with only the data, cache and dalvik cache boxes checked.Note:don't check any other box. Then reboot into twrp.Go to mount in twrp and see that your external sd is mounted. Now access the external sd card in install option and you will find the files of super su.

Flash twrp again ,disconnect usb cable from pc, then press and HOLD "volume down" AND "power button" when device vibrates, RELEASE "power button" WHILE still holding "volume down" , that should do the job.
Need stock boot.img
I require the stock boot.img so if anyone is kind enough to upload it, ill be greatful. Or if anyone knows how to extract it from the raw image, that'd also be appreciated.

Download the official firmware from Asus website and unpack the zip file, and you'll see the boot.img file there.
Wanted to install NetHunter on my phone to learn. Here is a story of a foolish student decided to make his life difficult:
Device: OnePlus 6
Model: A6000
Android 10
Here are the steps I followed:
Followed these two documentations:
1) https://www.kali.org/docs/nethunter/installing-nethunter/#1-nethunter-support-and-pre-built-images
2) https://www.kali.org/docs/nethunter/
So downloaded the zip image > put android in developer mode with OEM and advanced reboot and debugging enabled > Fastboot menu
Then I followed this guide for step 3-5 from link 1:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-flash-twrp-root-nandroid-efs-backup.3792643/
(a little bit google reading said TWRP takes care of A/B style devices by itself no special steps needed)
Set up the windows machine with fastboot, adb and device drivers > run the command "fastboot oem unlock" > transferred twrp zip to the device internal storage > then flashed the new recovery mode "fastboot boot twrp.img" > install and selected the twrp zip that I had saved in internal storage before > reboot > system.
So far worked perfectly.
Then I downloaded the Magisk apk from github and installed it by transferring it to internal storage.
Next for step 6 from link 1:
I again download the ForceEncrypt disabler from zip and transfer it to internal storage then flash it using TWRP.
So far no errors.
Now the final step should have been to flash the nethunter zip image and this is where the problems started:
I tried to flash it using TWRP but it gave me an error about there not being enough storage.
Saw a YT video where he extracts the nethunter zip and via the magisk app does a install on the tar file found inside the extracted folder. This also failed.
After a bit google it said it was because I did not have custom ROM and chroot and lineageOS should solve my problem.
I flash the LineageOS zip image using TWPR > successful but says I should switch the slot to complete the zip files installed.
After switching and rebooting, fastboot goes to lineage always and its a bootloop , so no matter what I select its always reaching the same screen and I cant tranfer zip to internal anymore to try a different build.
So now I run the command fastboot boot twrp.img again and go back to slot A.
Now my phone is stuck in bootloader. No matter what option I select out of the 4:
Start
Recovery mode
restart bootloader
power off
(latter two work as expected technically)
I always end up on the same screen.
After connecting the phone it is showing it as connected in "fastboot devices" now but fastbood is not able to flash or boot any image to it: either freezes or unknown error. "adb devices" shows no devices.
Practically begging for help right now.
To fix your phone, you should use this recovery tool.

You can follow a tutorial like this one

I had the same issue after trying to install nethunter myself. Unfortunately for me the MSMDownload tool wouldn't work because I couldn't get the phone to stay off, it would just boot back up into bootloader/fastboot mode as soon as I connected to the computer via usb cable.
Here's the solution that will work 100%. Go to this website below and download the stock OOS zip file for your phone, in my case it was the Oneplus 6T fastboot ROM. Unpack the files into your platform-tools folder, click skip all if it asks you if you want to replace any files in that folder, then run the flash-all.bat and it will unbrick your device. Keep in mind that it will unroot your device and remove twrp as well. There's a thread here that explains how to do it manually so that doesn't happen but its a bit of work to get it done that way.
