Thanks for doing this, probably a good idea to start. Especially now that I assume there will be a lot more development around the now more widely rooted and unlocked LG V20

Collecting common tweaks in one place would be a cool thing in here too.
Like changing emojis, for those of us who are rooted: http://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/themes/aroma-1-click-emoji-changer-10-to-pick-t3499517

The Samsung Admire (SCH-720R)(Metro PCS) community is in desperate need of CWM, Custom Kernel and ROM for this great phone. We need any willing developer to pitch in on this. I know nothing about code, but I am willing to test new projects.
We were able to obtain root which allowed us to remove bloatware from the hpone allowing it to run smoother. But we all know that it is not enough to have this phone running to its maximum potential.
If you are interested and willing to help us out, please feel free to contact me through here or by sending me a PM.
Thank you in advance for all your work and dedication.

Thanks for moving it to the correct section.
hey all, just joined the forum, been lurking for a while, trying to learn about the whole rooting process. i am still not 100% confident on the whole thing, but i am thinking about giving it a shot.
have had a few smart phones, all from t-mobile except for this last one, which is a samsung galaxy s3 from verizon, running android 4.1.2. i have watched a bunch of videos, and read a bunch of threads, but want to make sure i don't turn my phone into a brick by doing this, so i am asking here now.
if i follow the instructions in the video by officialphonerebel for the SCH-I535 will that give me root access? i tried to post a link to the video but since i am a new member the site won't allow me to do that. what else do i need to do in order to delete all the bloatware that comes pre-installed? do i need to unlock the bootloader? or will the process described in the video do that already?
thanks in advance from a dumb union plumber and pipe welder...

Ok, sorry about that, thanks for moving it.
However, you found the time to move my thread, but not to help me? Cool, thanks for that too.

1.Does the video show you how to root from 4.1.2 jelly bean?
2. Yes you need to unlock the bootloader in order to flash anything.
3. Most custom ROMs have bloatware removed.
4. The only way to brick your phone is by flashing something meant for another device.
5. Kenny is a moderator so he doesn't really have to help you just moderate the forums which he did.

Kenny moves threads once they are reported so don't go subtly suggesting anything.

Thank you for the info. The video I watched said 4.1.2/4.1.1., so I am not sure if they require the same procedure or not.
So after I root the phone, I need to flash a custom ROM? I can't just run an unlocked stock version of 4.1.2?
Understood about the bricking, I will pay attention and read what I am flashing first to make sure it is for my device
This forum must run differently than other forums. I am a supermod over on a motorcycle racing website, and we need to be knowledgable about what we are moderating, and give advice and help the members, not just moderate.

I wasn't subtly suggesting anything. I think I was pretty straightfoward saying that in addition to moving my thread he could have helped me answer my questions.
Follow the instructions in below post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35418324
This will give you rooted stock rom.
Thanks doesn't hurt....

follow the directions in this thread >>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439 and you will be rooted with an unlocked botloader and ready to flash.
from there you you can stay stock rooted and remove apps yourself. alot of people like titanium back up for that. or you can flash a touchwiz/samsung based ROM that has most if not all of the bloatware removed and allows to add what you want thru the installer at setup. you can find these ROMs in android development. or you can flash an AOSP (android open source project) ROM that is based off "pure google" with developer mods and preferences included. you can find these ROMs in original android development.
backup your phone. i use nandroid and nandroid manager but there are others that may work better for you. only flash stuff for vzw. have fun.

Be careful! Moderators do not have knowledge of every device. We are here to moderate based on forum rules. Learn to read the rules and how to search. Moderators are volunteers responsible for over 35 device forums and are not here to do the searching for you.
Your attitude will get you less and less people wanting to help you. XDA is NOT a support site. It is a Development site.

be careful of what?
and now i understand that this forum is different than the others i frequent. like i said, i am a supermod (voluntarily as well) on another site, and on that site, all of our mods, supermods, and admins need to be familiar with all aspects of what they are moderating, so i assumed (incorrectly apparently) that this site was run the same. my apologies for that.
my attitude? i thought it was rude of you to just moderate the thread, and not even let me know whether or not you could help or not. it was fine to tell me you moved the thread, and it was my fault for posting it in the wrong section, but all you had to say was "hey listen, i don't know much about your device, but you posted it in the wrong section, so i moved it for you." and everything would have been fine.
i read tons of "support" threads on this site, and was not aware that it was for developers only, again, my apologies. can you direct me to a site that is for support please?
for those of you that helped, i thank you.

Thread closed, I will assume you feel it necessary to vent your frustrations, but again, your above post does nothing towards the contribution and/or furthering of development.
One of the main rules of XDA is to read and follow the posting rules prior to posting. Nowhere in these rules is there a requirement for, or of, a moderator to answer your questions just because you asked one. We act on reported posts from users that violate XDA posting rules, and yours did.
If you are a moderator elsewhere, you should be familiar with the codes and standards that it takes to moderate. Firing back and getting the last word in to moderators here is not a classy or nice thing, might be on the site you volunteer on, but not here.
Now, KennyGlass123 may unlock so that you can reply to him. Or, you could have used the PM system to express your dissatisfaction of things. But you did not, hence, me locking this thread.
Have a good weekend.

Finally, I kept wondering why XDA cannot be organised, and cannot adopt this system for all threads and stickies meaning all rules and XDA guides, should be here too, instead of being another sticky by another MOD. Thus the moment a guest or member clicks on this link or meant to pop up automatically the moment anyone visit this forum, they have it all.
References and guides and note worthy XDA articles can all be linked here . similar to the master guide you have already mentioned but including all the MOD's request , for every-time there is New MOD, I notice another sticky, all well meant and needed BUT can be placed in one sticky, is what I would think is a better organized forum. IMHO
And this thread should be managed by all MOD's instead of just one, who might retire or may be too busy with other tasks
Members, Please do not post in this thread unless you have a sticky request. Any off topic posts will be deleted immediately
If the title of my thread could be changed from 50 to 100, that'd be great.
Thanks.

i'd like to uptate my phone to android kitkat if its possible i ve seen some videos on youtube but im a little bit sceptical about it , I have LG-P705 with the android 4.0.3.
btw I apologize if im posting on the wrong category
HI,
Yes, there are lots of options for you it looks like. This is the section for your device....
LG Optimus L3, L5, L7
See the development sections for ROMs for your device.
Are you rooted? You need to have a custom recovery to flash ROMs. If you are completely stock, you've never received an update?
Here is a great guide that covers a lot... Read up, the more you learn ahead of time... The easier and safer things will be..
> LG Optimus L3, L5, L7Optimus L3, L5, L7 General>[L7]P700/P705 Guide for Rooting,CWM install,ROMs,Baseband
You can ask for help regarding the things in the guide in that thread.
Other questions or issues should be asked in the Q&A section. (see my first link)
Good luck!

Thanks alot for the clarifications but i'm newbie and i don't really now the procedures i understand that i have to root the phone first then i don't know what to do ... could you wrap it up for me please.
XDA Assist is for helping navigate the site only.
That said...quick summary...
-unlock bootloader (or some equivalent exploit )
- flash custom recovery
- root... Or just flash custom rom, which likely is already rooted. (always read rom flashing instructions carefully)
It's all in the guide I linked.
There's other ways, but that's a whole other can of worms.
Further questions will have to be asked in the guide thread, or stay a new thread in your Q&A section. ?

No sorry. But you can just copy your original post to a new thread.
Again, read and read. The more you know, the smother life will be with this stuff. Going into things confused is a recipe for trouble.
You will find this advise will probably be repeated. It's on all us members to do the homework, and ask for clarification on things.... But getting walked through things can also lead to trouble if you misunderstand something, or the person helping you is just wrong. ?
Read the guide I linked. Read some of the replies... As they often have the same questions you do. Browse the general and Q&A sections and you'll find similar questions and info that you've been asking. Especially read the stickied threads at the top of the sections.
This hobby requires work, effort and time. ?
Again, good luck!

I just registered on this site and i already like it your one hell of a member! fast response ,great advises just the one i needed to start my journey! thanks again
Those of us working with the LG G3 Vigor would like to get a seperate forum here on the Vigor. This phone is NOT the same as the regular LG G3, and to keep down confusion it'd be spectacular to have a seperate forum.
Didn't know where to go to ask, but would love to have some help. Thanks in advance for the assistance.
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. You might have already found this but the proper place to this request is here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660354. Not all devices will get their own forum. But XDA tries to accommodated as many of the popular device's as possible.
Thank you for your rapid response. I'll close the thread.
You're welcome.
