I recently replaced the logic board in my Verizon galaxy note II and have two strange problems. First, when I turn on the camera and tap the settings gear, the menu displays upside down. It also displays the image taken upside down.. I can work around this. It's weird but not a big deal. The second problem is the big one. Although everything seems to work fine as far as GPS and other sensors, when I attempt to use Google Sky map, the app loads fine but doesn't give me a real time view. Nothing moves when pointed at the sky. This is not only on Sky Map, but any app like that. I've calibrated the compass and found a couple of apps for calibrating the other sensors, but no change. Any ideas from anyone?

You need to remap your hardware, the motherboard you used must have been from a slightly different variant of Note 2, one with a different rotation orientation (up on yours is down on the motherboard you used).
Same goes for your GPS, the GPS on Verizon Note 2 must be different somehow on the variant that your motherboard came from.

It's configuring the software to match how your hardware sensors are configured, in other words, make up=up and down=down.

Ok. Since you're not offering, you must be waiting on this: Will you please tell me how to do this or where I can learn?

You mean since I'm not spoonfeeding you the answer. You didn't ask "how", you asked "what is it?".
That's because it requires knowledge of the note 2 system, I'm not familiar with note 2 but my experience with other devices tells me that your hardware isn't mapped correctly because its upside down.
You'll have to get help from note 2 users that are familiar with your software/hardware.

I'm sorry. I figured since I didn't know what hardware mapping was, it would be obvious to you that I wouldn't know how to do it either. But I thank you for letting me know what to look for.

I just got my Nexus S yesterday and already the compass has stopped working. My phone got stuck in landscape mode so I turned it off and back on and now the compass doesn't work in Google Maps. I read about quite a few people having the landscape issue after installing Google Sky map, which I do have installed but everyone said resetting the device fixes everything. Any idea's on what I can try to get my compass working again?

turn it over and give it a couple good smacks on the backside. seriously. they can get stuck. also, are you using a case with a magnetic clip? they can mess with the compass.
It's a digital compass. They don't have any moving parts like a conventional compass so they can't get stuck. And no, I don't have it on a magnetic clip.

What do you mean "What about an analog compass?" I said I already tried rebooting in my first post. And yes I know I can make my own compass, what does that have to do with anything?
I just tried doing a factory data reset and that didn't help. Then I installed some lame compass app that allowed me to calibrate it and it appears to be "working" now. It's completely inaccurate and jumps around like crazy but it does something at least. Is that normal or should I get my device replaced?
If you've done all of that I would just replace it. Bbm have been great with my own issues with the phone, show them the problem and if you are in your 30 day window, they should switch you out a new one. Careful though, seems to me once you go the exchange route, it gets addictive. Got mine out on warranty as I type. Another thing, if you haven't already, get the black tie insurance, at least for the first six months or so. Its saving me now and there's no deductible. The phone is also a rapid exchange so it will be back to you new in 3 to 5 biz days.

You can check the raw magnetometer status with the app, "Phone Tester".

You might try updating to 2.3.2....I think I read somewhere where that helped the compass problem with some apps. Couldn't hurt I wouldn't think either way.
Hi
I love my Sensation, but I do have one small problem. Whenever I use it I seem to catch the camera with my thumb and have to turn off the camera before I use the phone. I realise I could just move the camera button, but then I would just get the same issue with another app.
Has no-one else had this? It happens both with stock ROM and ARHD (currently using 6.6.5)
Not to be rude, but it doesn't sound like a "phone" issue...
To answer your question, no I do not have that problem.
Well, I beg to differ, but it is a phone issue, as that portion of the screen appears to be over-sensitive. I thought other people may have had the same problem and the fact that they haven't would seem to indicate that it could be a fault with my phone, which is what I was trying to establish.

Interesting choice of words there.
Overly sensitive?? You happen to touch the icon for the camera app, it opens, and you're surprised?
My goal here is to help, but...

Really? Your goal appears to be condescension. I am not an idiot, I have owned other smartphones, even other HTCs, but even my palm on the side of the screen opens the camera. I am not even directly touching the icon.
Please don't bother replying to this, as it is not helpful, but IS very annoying.
Have you tried just kind of training yourself not to touch it? I believe that is the first and potentially last step to solving this problem.
Took phone back to shop, they agreed that the screen was faulty and it has now been fixed so that the problem no longer occurs.
Still, thanks for your help folks
Hi all.
I've reading and researching about using Tab 2 and a stylus, in every page or blog I found ppl keep saying "Install Touchscreen Tune". Unfortunatelly, touchscreen tune is not compatible with Tab 2 version.
Does anyone know how to get rid of this problem? Some console code, some parameter to change, anything?
I would really appreciate if you can help me finding a solution...
Thanks in advance,
Herman
Not sure what could be done. I had one and disliked it. Bought a $30 decent model too (and returned it) Even with the touch sensitivity on 10 it sucked.

i heard from vitalyj, the guy behind touchscreen tune, that samsung used the SYNAPTICS S7301 chip (which is incompatible with his app as of now) for the tab 2. The guys from cyanogen mod project wrote a driver for the chip at least for a s2 fork or something, i saw the code on github but i do not have enough posts here to post the direct link unfortunately
Its CyanogenMod / android_kernel_samsung_smdk4412 project, "synaptics: Add S7301 touchscreen driver " commit.
Could this help for a development of a similar app for the tab 2? Could one compile the kernel and post the console commands for the settings or is it too hard to do fast or a t all?
PS: Hello XDAforums!
Increasing the sensitivity won;t improve the resolution of the touch screen. If you are thinking you will get results like the Samsung note with S-pen, think again. These screens are made to work with fingers.

+1 Just setting min-movement from 10-20px to 0px or so, would help a lot. Now I'm just unable to "draw" small things because it requires a "big" movement to start painting. Of course, not that I bought the Tab 2 instead of the Note 10.1 to draw... but sometimes I'd like more precision.
Tried all apps, but it's the same. I hope someone gets around it. The Synaptics driver post looks promising maybe.
I have a tab2 and the best thing I have found is to use a fine point stylus. I then just use the erase to clean up. Unfortunately these tablets just aren't going to give a fine detail sketch. I have seen my friend knock out some good drawings by zooming in then out and erasing to clean up, l've had no luck.

I have been going through the comments and giving "Helpful"ratings to compatibility requests on the Touchscreen App in Google Play, to hopefully bring Tab 2 development to the foreground. From what you mentioned above, it might be awhile before we see any solid development.

I'm using the same cheapo stylus with my tab 2 7.0 that I bought for my S3. It works wonderfully on my S3 but horribly with the Tab 2. I can't Swype at all, it keeps losing contact. I need a solution. I have to press really hard with the stylus to select as well. I am honestly thinking of returning it.

Well said, also true.
I believe that if the above two parameters could be tweaked it would solve 99% of the touchscreen sensitivity issues with the 2nd generation G-Tabs, and would probably allow use of a stylus with good performance, instead of dismal performance.
GUTTED
This is just ridiculous! It's bad enough that you can't adjust the screen sensitivity but I just can't believe there some sort of hack to make stylus use acceptable!
Up to now I have been really happy with my Tab 2 but its inability to be used with a stylus has just destroyed the main reason I got it - for annotating PDFs with drawings & handwriting.
Extremely disappointed, I still can't believe it! Such a basic feature!
No-one has any thoughts?
I'm going to sell me Tab 2 and get something else. What do you recommend?
Hey guys! I just bought myself an I9001 Galaxy S Plus from someone (second hand)... It's my first smartphone so i think i've been busted.
The phone seemed to work well, and everything was ok. But when I try to use the GPS (without internet connection), it does'n seem to find any server. I've changed some different ROMs with different Kernels, but it still can't reach any server.
I forgot to mention that with some ROMs the signal level is very oscillating...
Today i was looking at the phone and observed that there is a hole just above the battery where some component, like an antenna or something is missing. I don't know what component is that...
I think that the missing component is the one in te next picture. But what is its name and role? Instead of it, at my phone, there's a soildered wire... This trick was made to mask other issues of the phone? (if i replace the missing component the phone might have problems?)
I'll attach the photos, may be you can help me. Thanks!!!

I think it's a Connector coaxial, a micro miniature form of RF coaxial connector. Look at one i marked with an arrow.. You can replace that part from samsung service center
Best of luck.
The details:
Design LOC: RFS100
SEC CODE: 3705-001731
Description: CONNECTOR-COAXIAL
thank you!
but that's the reason why my gps doesn't work?
or that's the reason why the signal level is very oscillating when i'm using some custom ROMs?

May be. Not sure..
I used to have a i9000B wich is basicaly the same device.
THE GPS signal simply sucks, it was so bad that sometimes it took 2 minutes to lock in open field, with some roms it got better with other even worse.
I used GPS AIDS with that device an app that was developed just to try to solve this particular device problem at that time. look it up, maybe it can help a little bit, but i thing this device will never get a high speed gps lock.

When I turn on my location setting with high accuracy the compass and location move very erratically but when I turn on device only I can't get a lock, it will keep stating it's waiting for location.
Does this mean the GPS on my phone is borked?
Maybe.
You're not using any GPS /location xposed modules are you?

Could be a loose connection to the antenna. Pinch the upper left portion of the phone hard and that should re-seat the antenna.
Thanks, I pinched the corner like you said and it now works but it doesn't give me an accurate reading.
The compass is pointing in the wrong direction and the marker still jumps about.
Is it RMA time?
There are two choices. Rma it or take it apart and use some card stock to pad the GPS antenna so it makes full contact. Call google and RMA it.
Can I ask why my sons iPad mini that doesn't have gps pinpoints my position exactly and also with the compass pointing in the right direction on google maps yet my N5 falters?
Thanks but I'm just trying to understand if it's hardware or software.

If to fix it, you had to physically pinch the device, its obviously hardware.

I have sent it back so hopefully they can replicate the issue on their end and replace.
The phone I returned was perfect apart from the GPS so knowing my luck I'll get one with dead pixels or something else!
Guess what I have the same issue on both of my devices ie Nexus 7 and Nexus 5. And even on my Mi3. When I change to device only it keeps on showing me waiting for location. On high accuracy it shows the location.
Looks like more a software or android issue rather than hardware since all the devices cant have same hardware issue.

Nope nothing for location
It is a frustrating issue but I was also getting a really imprecise GPS lock also. The compass would sometimes point me in the wrong direction and it would also stutter as I drove.
If the replacement has the same issue I can see myself going for the iphone 6 as I really wanted to jump over to android after the L preview, it seems so much more than ios7 and 8.
It seems to keep the price down the nexus devices all have issues regarding build quality.
