Update Mediapad x2 to marshmallow - Huawei MediaPad X2

I just purchased a Huawei Mediapad x2 Gem702-L from Amazon. I like this phone very much. It came with Android Lollipop and I would like to have Marshmallow. I do not even know where to begin with such a process and even wondered if it is possible to pay someone to do it remotely? If not, where does a newbie begin?
Grateful for any help I can receive.

Were are you located?
All guides are here, where is the problem?
My device: 701->703 B211 KangVIP AJ Xposed

I am in Millsboro, Delaware. I am new to the forum and have done a lot of digging around but am concerned that I might damage the device if I do something wrong. I see references to B211 but don't know how to determine what my device currently has. I have never rooted a device.
My build number is: GEM-702LV100R001C209B006
Android 5.0.1
EMUI: 3.0.5
Thank you for taking the time to respond to me.

702 gets ota update to marshmallow. Just use the update menue.

Huawei told me that the phone will not receive the update because I am in the U. S.

Alternatively you can create a folder named dload on sd and put update.app from unzipped https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767114936 inside.
Then tap on update and select local update. Then the file will will be shown as full update package. Then tap on install.
My device: 701->703 B211 xposed 86

Thank you for your help and patience. After clicking the folder it begins to "download resource" gets all the way to the end then displays:
"Cannot display PDF (. archivetempupdate_vendor.app is of invalid format)

Sorry indeed: the unpacked dload folder contains 4 files.
In this case all 4 files have to be present in dload when you start the update.

It worked! Thank you so much for helping me, I am grateful. Might I trouble you to ask if there are any updates after this one? I also own a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 running 6.0.1. I really like the stock calendar and clock as opposed to those that come from Huawei. Do you know if it is possible to install those on the Huawei?

B202 is the newest update so far for your model.
Make a Nandroid fist.
It's not rooted, so install TWRP 3.02, install supersu app and do the systemless root command: see my last post
But if it's too complicated you can install KANGVIP B211 on this B202. In this case: root and supersu app is included.

A B203 official update is now available for 702L :

I try this and it reboots but boots into TWRP. I tried installing the zip from there but it doesn't work. I also tried with the files extracted but TWRP doesn't see any of the files when I try "install". Any help appreciated.
Edit: Nevermind, found that I needed to reinstall stock recovery to update.
Can someone point me to a b202 compatible superSU or other root method? I keep softbricking and having to restore from a backup.
Thanks

the systemless method is effective with this super SU file:
To root install TWRP 3.02 and start the integrated TWRP terminal modus
then type
echo SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.supersu
and press retrurn
Then install supersu with TWRP install routine

yon can also try with very last super SU file (stable or not, your choice):

[MOD] Xposed Framework for Mediapad X2

Easy Android ROM Customization Through Xposed Framework
Here is Xposed Framework for the MediaPad X2. This allows for future customization of a lot of different things on our devices. Thanks to kpcheang2 for finding the original page with the download links.
Besides the usual customization we can do with Android launchers and Android widgets, we also love to try new features that available on custom ROMs. But custom ROMs can be unstable and buggy sometimes and the process to flash over to a new ROM is very time-consuming, especially if you need to restore your backup and app settings.
Through Xposed Framework, by just downloading and installing a ready-made module you can make modification (modules) to any element of the OS or the app itself without the need of flashing a new ROM. For example, if you ever need to skip YouTube ads on your android, download the module for that, install, enable and reboot your device for the effect to take place immediately.
Prerequisites:
-Unlocked bootloader
-Rooted
-TWRP Installed
-Be On B106 Or B109
Instructions:
First, install Xposed Installer by opening the apk and hitting install as you would any other app.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5I_q70mNuR4N29ueEwtalBVUE0/view?usp=sharing
Second, boot into TWRP and install the Xposed Framework:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5I_q70mNuR4cThvN2RkU2dOdkE/view?usp=sharing
After rebooting you will have working xposed framework on your phone. Open it up and in settings check "Disabled Resource Hooks" Now reboot once more. Now you need to find modules that work. There are modules for pretty much anything you want done to your phone. The problem is none of them support our X2 yet (or at least none that I've tried) This is just a start as I'm sure there will be modules coming out to support our devices. After installing a module go into Xposed Installer and into Modules and check the Module you want to use in there. Then restart your phone foe the module to take effect.

Thanks ! I plan to try out in a few days after I get myself up to B109.
goes into bootloop
goes into bootloop on stock b109 i had it running fine on kang vip
Bootloop, too
I'm using the 702L with ajsmsg's B109.
--- Edit:
With B106 by guduke also a bootloop
With B109 KangVIP I got the error "framework is installed but not active, please check logs" (these are empty)
Re-Install and/or Restarts takes no effects.
I'm giving up...
---
Please let us know with which configuration/build (whatever) you're able to run xposed. It's much more important for me then a "current" Android build. To ensure the right result, I suggest also to upload all relevant files to get your config.
Many thanks in advance.

Could you be more detailed about which 'resource hooks' are to be disabled? I suspect so my problems with exposed are tied with some settings. I am running B109 KangVIP debloated , but not so heavy as @ajsmsg78's.

You're right.
With deactivated resource hooks option, I can active the framework.
I also activated xprivacy but the module say's only "restart required" ... it doesn't work.
I'm so close to the target .... just one step left.
//Edit: After more installed modules, I was able to activate xprivacy successfully

in the xposed framework app settings you see the option just check it and your good to go
When I had the Ascend mate 2 I had edit the build prop to get xposed to work. I had to change the
" ro.config.hwtheme=2 change the 2 to 0 and reboot
I used apex launcher with that because it disables a few things.
does this work with b110?
I had a bootloop when I tried it, so if anybody already has it working with b100, I'll try it again.
Thanks - Wolfgang

We all have the same problems...
But Huawei's support for internation models are ... not existing. So we all want to upgrade our models to a 703L ROM to get new updates (like announced Android 6) and to improve our phones.
It was a hard and long way to unlocking, rooting and installing of the xposed framework. And I'd say, nobody will also make it possible for the "only-one" user, who wants to stay on a 701L ROM. There are too many restrictions, too many limitations and no further updates from huawei. I really don't see a reason to stay on this ROM. My 702L works fine with the 703L ROM.

[GUIDE][HUAWEI P8][15-4-2016] Xposed Working On Lollipop & Marshmallow

Good day everyone, this is a guide on how to enable Xposed on EMUI 3.1 (Working tested by me using the deodex method) and EMUI 4.0 (Working tested by me also and confirmed working by @Blackball,). - (Update using the deodex method 10-4-2016)
First of all the original guide for making this work on Huawei roms http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6/general/guide-workaround-running-xposed-t3338765. Ty @mfbcool for your guide and help. Please follow his instructions to the letter for making it work on our device.
- ([15-4-2016] New Instructions on the original thread no need to deodex the rom files, a working xposed zip has been developed for Huawei devices just flash it in twrp and do the build.prop modifications before you flash the zip for your version of rom. Already tested by me)
So my role in this is to highlight all the tips needed for making it work on our device, and the issues i faced when doing it. ([15-4-2016] The original thread is self explanatory, all of the tips here are already mentioned there this thread was created when we needed to deodex the rom files. So forgive me if i am not adding much.)
Notes
- I think a lot of the members were installing the wrong xposed files for our device we need the ARM-64 SoC files for our device because it's using the Kirin 930.
The Tips:
Lollipop:
1. The xposed files needed for your device are under the heading of: on Lollipop 5.0.x is: Xposed for EMUI 3.1 Android 5.0. (If you are on Lollipop 5.1.1 is: Xposed for EMUI 3.1 Android 5.1.1, if Marshmallow: Xposed for EMUI 4.0 Android 6.0)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-workaround-running-xposed-t3338765
2. Make sure that after you install the xposed apk , you go to "build.prop" in /system using any file explorer with root and edit the line "ro.config.hwtheme=1" to "ro.config.hwtheme=0" and then save the file with the defualt permissions or you will get a bootloop. why editing the build.prop is important because without changing this the framework will not be active, you will get a red message saying framework not active. The only way to activate it is by editing this line or in the xposed app go to Settings if you enable "disabled resources hooks" doing that and then restarting will activate the framework but whatever module that uses resources will not work. So the only way working without affecting the modules is editing the build.prop file.
Marshmallow:
1. Make sure to add these lines ro.config.hwtheme=0 and ro.config.hw_theme=0 in build.prop in order for xposed to work and make sure to save the file with the defualt permissions or you will get a bootloop.
If you follow the original guide exactly and the tips you should have no issues making Xposed work.
P.S: By the way first boot may take a while (15+ mins), So don't be afraid.
Special thanks again to @mfbcool for his guide & help, and @pudup for directing me to the guide.
Sent from my HUAWEI GRA-UL00 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Thanks for the guide.

I cant install xposed. When i install it, after reboot i get black screen with only one button of the navigation bar (i can access the shutdown menu from lock key, and i can access and the notification pannel, but nothing more). This is solved when i install the uninstall file.
My phone is already rooted. I firstly installed apk, and then installed xposed via twrp. I've tried to wipe the Dalvik but it doesnt solved.
My p8 is gra-L09, lollipop. Used this files: XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk, xposed-v80-sdk21-arm64.zip, xposed-uninstaller-20150831-arm64.zip.
What AM i doing wrong?

Did you deodex the rom? you have to deodex in order for xposed to work for Huawei devices, which version of Lollipop are you using?.
I flashed today the C636B320 Marshmallow firmware, and then i deodexed the rom per instructions to make xposed work on Marshmallow.
First attempt i failed because i didn't wait enough, you see the screen will get stuck on Huawei boot animation without any sign that anything is happening(no app update notification card like in Lollipop) for like a 20+ mins. Then voilĂ  the phone booted normally. Also exposed is working fine no issues, make sure to flash xposed-v80-sdk23-arm64.zip instead of the latest one v81 which doesn't seem to work for me.

GEM-701, please HELP: NO more keyboard for pin-entry

I searched and read most of the help and troubleshooting section, but found no answer to the problem I face:
After uninstalling several games (and chrome) I rebooted. I swiped to be prompted for the pin entry.
The cursor blinks in the pin field, but there is no keyboard to type the pin.
I would really like to avoid a full reset (power+voldown hold),
0. because this wipes all data (pictures, videos a.s.o), is that right?
I read a lot about upgrading, rooting the x2.
1. I assume going to GEM 702L and so on would preserve all data. Is that right?
2. Will this (upgrading to GEM 702L) provide me with a keyboard when reaching the pin entry after reboot?
3. Is there a way to get my personal data off the x2 on a sd-card or the like before I make this update?
4. Would HiSuite only give me access to the device after entering the pin?
5. Is there a method of accessing the device with linux? (x2, switched on and switched off both give me a device (harddisk), only one I can mount and acces some license files)
I hope these questions can be answered, thank you

thanks, audioralf,
but I cannot "Go to settings keyboard and uncheck save keyboard" because right after booting I first have to type the pin because the phone is naturally locked and the pin-entry-field is presented.
And for typing I need a keyboard but this is just vanished, I never get to see it even if I point/klick to the pin-entry-field.
So this is my dilemma.
I hope I clarified the point: I have to unlock but have no keyboard.
Ever heard about sth like this?
You can do a Nandroid.
Which version did you use until last?
Then flash just system.img for your version.
My device: 701->703 B211 xposed 86
---------- Post added at 04:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:35 PM ----------
Maybe restore system from an older Nandroid of the same version could bring back the keyboard.

I'm gonna look into Nandroid, if flashing of system.img is possible without unlocking the tablet and preserving the data, which is vital. Thanks, I'll let you know.

Boot into TWRP and make sure data is mounted. Then go into file manager and into data/system and find locksettings.db and delete it. There may be two more locksettings files right above or below those. Delete them as well then restart. Your lock screen pin/code will be gone.

Root broken and can't unroot

Hi, so I've been trying to root my FDR-L09 for a couple of days, already unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP.
I also tried to flash a SuperSU Version through TWRP, but at first, it didn't show a SuperSU app. So I tried the Google Play version, which showed me the SuperSU icon (and Root Checker says my phone is rooted / Reboot apps work flawlessly), but Viper4Android says it can't detect root and BusyBox just won't install, so I suspected something went wrong with the root. So I tried to unroot my phone through SuperSU, didn't work. Then tried to manually delete su files in /system/app, /system/bin and /system/xbin, but I couldn't find any su files there.
There was a folder in / called su, where a bin folder was located with su files. So I tried to remove that one, and it works (Root Checker says my phone is not rooted and other apps that need root permission also don't work), but as soon as I reboot my phone the folder appears.
How do I permanently remove this folder? Because I want to start again from the point where I installed TWRP, but I want to prevent having to reset my phone again, since it takes a very long time to transfer files to my PC and back.
Also, for future root attempts, do you have any root tutorials which worked for you? Tried a SuperSU ZIP from here and here, also tried some kind of pph superuser, nothing worked properly.
I would be eternally greatful for any help. I just wanted to have Viper4Android on my new phone

Hi, thanks for replying.
I'm not really sure if I have found the correct firmware, I've downloaded Firmware Finder and selected the update.zip from the FRD-L09C432B381 package. But there are also hw/eu update_full_hw_eu.zip and public update_data_full_public.zip available. Which one do I pick?
Also, when I copy the update.app to the sd card, does it have to be any specific folder or just somewhere on the SD card? Thanks.
EDIT: Also, my current firmware is FRD-L09C432B380. Do I need to select the B380 one or B381? B381 is Full OTA, B380 is not.

go for full OTA and copy the update.app in dload folder {{create one folder name it dload }}
enough and power the device off and press 3 buttons:angel:
p.s
I think that the firmwares available in ff have 50-50% compitable they will work or they will not work :good:

Okay, I've tried the UPDATE.APP from the B381 and the B380 package, shut off my phone and rebooted it with all three buttons pressed, update fails at 5%. Tried to do an update through the stock update manager with FF, B381 gives an authenticate error, B380 boots at first, gets me into TWRP, and then gives me an error during the update process. And on top of that, I can't delete the dload folder I created with any file manager, also tried through PC.
Is there anything else I can try? Another source for B380/B381 maybe? I really want to avoid having to delete all my files.
And speaking of the worst case, what would be the best way to go about it? Would a factory reset from the normal menu do the trick, or do I have to do some kind of full wipe from TWRP? If it comes this far, I'd like to revert everything, so locked bootloader again, no TWRP, no root.
EDIT: Could delete the files through TWRP.
Update: I tried to install another B380 package through the FF app (there were 3 B380s showing, one OTA-MF, and two FullOTA-MF-PV), stock updater verified successfully and TWRP installed the update correctly. After reboot, my phone said something like "update failed", but the root is finally gone! So thank you for leading me in the right direction!

Camera is not part of those zips so that can't be it. Could you backup your current boot image in twrp and send to me?
Maybe Flash public and hw in twrp to fix the camera?

Something is up with your boot images, none can be unpacked.
Try flashing https://mega.nz/#!lhVTmbqQ!gIf4Tu4JC3pdzz-T7OAxi4wr3PQySkqdTgclkOkEU2E
Then re-root without rebooting.
Which root are you using by the way?

Ah. Phh is probably why it won't unpack then.
I'm not sure then. If re-flashing B181 hw and public doesn't fix it, it's probably the boot image (seeing as regular camera apps don't work either something is up with the drivers).
I'd try with SuperSU/phh too or update to b182+ if possible and flash regular magisk 13.3, without phh.

Correct. Latest is 181. I guess you could try installing Magisk, it will reboot instantly in twrp if it can't mount image as loop. 182+ is only because most firmware got loop support in 182. (First) B182 for C432 was released 12th of April and yours was released 24th of April, so it might work.
Or rebrand to C636.

New build for C185: B184.
It says BC185, but checking VERSION.mbn in update.zip confirms it's for C185:
MHA-L29C185B184
There was actually a B182 too for C185, released as BC185 too.

Before updating, have you tried restoring boot without rooting and see if that fixes camera?
Try this one, I removed verity and replaced fileencryption with encryptable so it doesn't encrypt your /data again.
https://mega.nz/#!lhE2zLSR!ngNY3bXKMS_eKizjmfnKHbFgVSVnp94dgCXnxuL_G_0
If it doesn't do anything, continue below.
Currently, https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-mate-9-flash-update-package-t3593108
Other ways are Firmware Finder or OTA, but both those require your IMEI to be approved for the update.
And Funky Huawei, which you need to pay for.
It will wipe /data when/if you decrypt again so make sure to make a backup of /data first, or backup apps with Titanium Backup or which backup app you use.
Basically download the Base zip, MHA zip and Windows or linux zip from https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-mate-9-flash-update-package-t3593108
Extract all to the same folder (hwota) and merge if it asks.
Then download:
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1366/g104/v91627/f1/full/update.zip
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/...hw_meafnaf/update_full_MHA-L29_hw_meafnaf.zip
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/...27/f1/full/public/update_data_full_public.zip
Put all in the "update" folder in the hwota folder you extracted before.
Rename update_full_MHA-L29_hw_meafnaf.zip to update_all_hw.zip
Rename update_data_full_public.zip to update_data_public.zip
Put phone in fastboot mode (download mode) and run update.bat (windows) or update.sh (linux)
Pick "Same brand update" when it asks, and "Script update directory".
When it's done your bootloader will be locked again so you need to unlock it if you want to root again.
You will be able to install regular Magisk 13.3 now without superuser (phh)

Resolved the camera issue by following the last steps by flashing the 3 zip files......have unlocked bootloader and installed twrp 3.1.0.1 and trying to install magisk 13.3 but it always stuck at huawei logo.
Have also tried rooting but it seems only SuperSU2.82EMUI5noverityEnforcing works and do i need to follow the steps of formatting data to get it decyrpted?
Currently on MHA-L29C185B182 at the moment.
Thx @ante0 for your kind gesture.Appreciated

My bad.
If you're using official Magisk 13.3, that's why it's not booting. Since your data partition is encrypted, and Magisk removes the encryption flag, it tries to boot without decrypting. So it ends in a boot loop.
Use this: https://mega.nz/#!I4FQzbyA!gBZelHmD3lGGwzGISUXkf7GQTUAq5i785d_qPHQOaVE (this one just doesn't force remove encryption)
Or decrypt first, then flash HW and Public and official Magisk 13.3.
But yes, to decrypt you need to format data.

Is there another way of flashing the 3 zip files without running through pc cuz i dont know whats happening. Am done with with everything working with Magisk and data encrypted but what i have realised this around is my development option is not working along with debugging mode. Also am not able to install apk aside from playstore....Due to that adb in command prompt is not working cuz debugging mode is disables.
In fastboot mode am only able to check device status and reboot device.Id you send a commnd to flash an image it response failed....

If you can't get in to dev options, wipe dalvik/art & cache in twrp, it could fix playstore as well.
If you can't enable adb, try enable disable a few times and remove USB cable between. I always have to do that the first time.
You can actually do everything from twrp to install firmware. But you'd have to check the hwota.sh file for commands... There are a few you must execute.
And is camera working now again?

Now after careful observation about the instruction u gave me,am able to install B182 ,have decyrpted data ,have magisk 13.3 running without any issue.
I jux wanna say thanks so much for your patience with me...Much appreciated:good::good::good::good::good:
