Camera : MIUI vs CM13 - Xiaomi Mi 4i

I just tried MultiBoot on my phone with CM13 and MIUI 8.0.2.0, My main reason was the camera quality is better on MIUI.
So I thought to do a comparison of the ROMs for camera.
INDOOR
I will attach the samples which I took. The first three are from MIUI, Order: normal, HDR and front.
In my opinion the cameras seem so much similar.
There is only size difference of the shots.
CM13 quality was set to 85% that explains the size difference, But OUTDOOR tests were done at 100% quality
MIUI
Normal Auto 13mp - 4.45 mb , Res: 4160 X 3120px
HDR 13mp - 6.83 mb , Res: 4160 X 3120px
Front - 1.42 mb , Res: 2592 X 1458px (16:9)
Snapdragon Camera
Normal Auto 13mp - 1.48 mb , Res: 4160 X 3120px
HDR 13mp - 1.13 mb , Res: 4160 X 3120px
Front - 610 kb , Res: 2592 X 1944px (4:3)
The HDR noise levels of the MIUI is way too much. Overall noise levels of Snapdragon seems lesser.
OUTDOOR
Outdoors is where the MIUI excels, The HDR shots are very much detailed, the colors are so vibrant. But CM camera is not that bad either with wavelet noise removal the shots look noise free and crisp, Some post editing and we can get impressive results too.
Size Comparison
MIUI
Normal Auto 13mp - 3.77 mb , Res: 4160 X 3120px
HDR 13mp - 5.51 mb , Res: 4160 X 3120px
Snapdragon Camera
Normal Auto 13mp - 4.45 mb , Res: 4160 X 3120px
HDR 13mp - 5.15 mb , Res: 4160 X 3120px
So we can see the sizes are also same. I will attach the samples. It's of a lazy cat which sleeps in a box but I kept waking her up.
Attachments: CM: Auto, Auto, HDR, HDR then MIUI: Auto, Auto, HDR, HDR
All files without compression: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4UT4dU4LpjJSVVIRVZfM25DQXM

The shots were taken in indoor lighting, the results may vary according to light source. So this may not be a comprehensive comparison.

Good one.. waiting for more!!! ?

Looks like hdr is not even working in snapcam.. its more darker instead of exposing the dark areas

Yeah, The HDR is not working properly I don't know why. But I will do one outdoor test too.

How to have biggest resolution in Panorama camera ?

In photo camera, i can set it to 3M resolution but in panorama , i can't do that. It's just only L . How to change it to 3M ?! I use Kaiser_tweak software and there is a funtion say that it can set Panorama to 3M per shot but it's not work.
late answer, just discovered how to do it:
HKLM/Software/Camera/P6/MainCamCaptSize set to 0x400 (1024)
HKLM/Software/Camera/P6/MainCamSupportCaptSize set to 0x6D4 (1748)
I got 4500x1500 pictures (size depends on the 3 pictures used for the panorama)

5.51 vs 8.49 camera quality and details

After updating to 8.49 i saw that pictures taken by the camera are less in details than 5.51
Also faces are blures and pictures quality are very descendant than olders 5.51
I replace the 5.51 version in latest firmware and now all ictures are fine tuning and very good.
5.51 camera application is better than 8.49 .
Anyone has this issue

48 megapixel RAW Support

Is anyone aware of a mod that would enable us to save to raw format with full 48 megapixel resolution? That would be amazing.
It's not a "full" 48mp sensor anyway. The color resolution is 12mp only, so I doubt you will get much better images using 48mp Raw :good: Quote:
"The sensor is characterised by its 48MP resolution and ability for 4:1 pixel binning into 12MP. The actual sensor’s colour filter is a quad-bayer setup, meaning the real chromatic spatial resolution is 12MP anyway, and the 48MP mode is enabled via pre-processing on the sensor itself, really only achieving chromatic spatial resolution equivalent to about ~27MP. OnePlus here does things better than a lot of other vendors; the 48MP simply isn’t available outside of the Pro mode, and I suggest users to just avoid using it at all."
(From Anandtech review, it's very thorough, as ever)

Google Camera Port 48MP?

I have been using this Google Camera Port: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79723402&postcount=1954
It does say it supports the full 48MP (- Add ultra-resolution compatibility ( 48Mpx )) but I cant seem to get it set above 12MP. Any advice?
Sorry for the bump (is this even a bump??) but here's the answer, I believe: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/themes/google-camera-op7-pro-t3944422
WHY THE FRONT CAMERA IS 4MP AND BACK CAMERA 12MP ?
Selfie camera uses pixel binning, same as for the main sensor. Since camera2api implementation only delivers a 4MP raw stream (16MP/4 = 4MP because of pixel binning)
GCam can only work with what raw stream the API delivers.
Same goes for back cam.

The answer that OP provides is pretty half-assed. The selfie camera doesn't use pixel binning by default at all, nor does camera2api make it suddenly 4mp. Also, all the Aux cams are subject to the same pixel binning from the gcam app, reducing their quality by a lot. The "Real" answer seems to be that gcam (only OP CAMERA CAN) simply cannot, at the moment, use the full 48mp resolution, and with some probably faulty coding, applies the pixel binning to all other cameras.

Main camera captures only at 12 mpx? - yes, gcam is capable of 48 mpx but libs need to be modified. Arnova is working on that. (He hasn't stated if this is impossible or not just yet, he is working on the proyect). Those 12 mpx will be the 48 mpx quad bayered photo. The purpose of this mod will be a full 48 mpx HDR gcam photo working. Fingers crossed.

12mp (9-to-1 binning) available on main cam?

As the title asks, can you set the main cam on this to 12mp mode? Should offer smaller file size and better low light performance)
yes with open camera you can set it to 12Mpx don't tested the quality

Thanks for that. Would you be able to test and post 27MP (main and open cam) and 12MP (open cam)? Would be fascinating to see the differences.
