Here the the first offical release of Fluff Kernel for the Epic 4G
Ok here are two new versions for you all.One is the performance kernel and the other is the battery saver. Both are using the new version of my initramfs that comes with ChainsDD's Superuser.apk and su binary. So i suggest if you have Superuser.apk installed to uninstall it before flashing either of these kernels since Superuser.apk will be installed in /system/app instead of /data/app.And now for the kernels. Both of these kernels are Rom Manager compatiable and have root in them.
This is the battery saving kernel.Changes to it are:
Both Kernels are updated to DI18 sourcecode.
CPU governor set to userspace you can use SetCPU to set the speed of the kernel if you like although SetCPU seems a bit unstable on anything other then conservative.
Default scheduler set to CFQ
http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/skeeterslint/FluffKernel-Epic-V1.0.5B.zip
This is the performance kernel.Changes to it are:
CPU governor set to performance your cpu will always be set to max this gives the best numbers in linpack and quadrant if numbers are you thing.
Default scheduler is set to CFQ.
http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/skeeterslint/FluffKernel-Epic-V1.0.5P.zip
This is another battery saver kernel for those who don't want to mess with SetCPU is uses the conservative CPU governor that the overclocked kernels use.
http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/skeeterslint/FluffKernel-Epic-V1.0.5C.zip
All kernels have been compiled against a toolchain that is stable on the newest OTA.And all kernels have been built with stock Samsung kernel source with no modifications to the source code all changes were to the .config file.
This zip can be flashed with ClockWorkMod or can be taken out of the zip and the zImage can put used as a replacement for the zImage in the one click root method although this kernel has root built into it.I recommend removing the JoeyKrim root method to not cuase and conflicts.
This kernel still has some Samsung bloat in it this will be stripped out as time goes on.I will also be trying out different combinations of CPU governors and schedulers to see which one performs the best.So please test it out and post your feedback.
Link to the stock samsung source that was used for these kernels.

This is not the kernel from the ota this is a custom compiled kernel it should run fine on any roms that are out right now.I am running it myself with no issues at all to speak of.

All the b usybox applets to setup the the loop device should be there. But I have never tried to use them I will have to check the kernel config to see if the kernel is setup for it.

Skeeter this its the best kernel I have used on my phone to date, however one thing to note is that the version of busy box used in this kernel is not compatible with ti backup so the busy box that comes with ti back up needs to be used.

OK it was still broken but i promise its fixed now.The battery drain probably wasn't cuased by the kernel some people have had problems with android system running away and draining battery but it has nothing to do with the kernel they have flashed back to the stock kernel and still have had issues with battery drain and android system running away on them.

I wasn't implying that the drain was caused by the kernel, I was saying that my battery was draining because JuiceDefender wasn't able to disable the APN because my root access was broken. D/l-ing update now. Thanks again!

Team Fah-Q Presents...
Scorched Kernel for Blaze v1.0
Built with the Android NDK toolchain 4.4.3, the purpose of this kernel is to simply add features
and fix bugs. No big performance hacks are in the works.
It should work with any ROM that is derived from the stock GINGERBREAD.UVLF4 release. That being
said, it's only been tested on dKnight ROM.
It is STRONGLY advised to do a full nandroid backup in CWM before installing the kernel,
as the installer will overwrite kernel modules in /system/lib/modules. You've officially been warned Features
IO Schedulers:
BFQ (NEW)
VR (NEW)
SIO (NEW)
deadline
cfq
noop
CPU Governors:
smartassV2 (NEW)
intellidemand (NEW)
lagfree (NEW)

Other Features:
ZRAM support (requires init.d script, included in the dKnight ROM)
Other minor tweaks here and there to the kernel configuration

Please post questions in the General Discussion section to leave this thread clean.
To answer your question... No, this fixes bugs in Samsung's code
I am part of the team developing the dKnight ROM, so that's the one it's tested on. The dKnight ROM Build 8 actually uses an earlier version of this kernel. There's no reason why this kernel shouldn't work on the stock Samsung ROM, or any variant... I just haven't tested it.
Feel free to report back in this thread what other ROMs it works on.
Works on tweaked

Nice work merwin sorry I've been away but to answer unicorn further the "bugs" in dknight are actually kernel bugs directly from Samsung just you can't use apps like voltage control unless you root which you will then notice the 1.5 to 1.18 bug merwin is referring to.
And yes in case many didn't know merwin is our kernel dev for team fah-q (tfq) and we will keep dishing out more stuff. As I have spoken with merwin his GB kernel will add stuff but we are waiting for ics kernel source so he can add some awesome stuff to the kernel.
Again nice work merwin didn't mean to hijack the thread just wanted to clear things up a bit.
----------------------------------------------
If helped don't be afraid to hit the thanks button it doesn't bite lol
It should go without saying, but anyone flashing this should wipe davlik/cache after flashing (applies to flashing any new kernel). Reboot and enjoy! I didn't see this in OP and didn't want a Q&A thread hijacked by issues related to not wiping after flashing.
Nice work
Thanks for sharing.

Sorry I posted my issue in the Q&A section and said I would post logcat here later.
My wifi hangs when turned off. I can turn it on, but when I turn it off it stops at "turning off" for 30+ seconds and sometimes it never turns off. I didn't have any issues with the default kernel for dark knight v8 and restored nand backup from before kernel flash and it works fine. It's a shame though, as my phone was super fast after flashing your kernel
On my power control widget is stays in a "busy" state when turning it off. The wifi isn't connected and the status bar icon is gone but I can't turn it back on. It doesn't matter how I am trying to turn it off whether it is through the status bar, my power widget, or through settings.
I have tried flashing dark knight v8 from scratch and flashing this kernel and I am installing all apps from the market from scratch (not restoring from titanium), checked md5, etc. and it just doesn't want to turn off. If it is hanging at 'turning off' and I reboot, upon reboot it is on again.
Let me know if there is any other info you need that will help.
Edit: It would appear we may soon have ICS running thanks to the exhilarate ics... so may be something to put on the back burner.

Battery Life, yes it may be terrible as its only beta version. Its not because of OC. Its because i have not included all the tweaks needed for battery life. Still its in testing stage. Reason for including OC and having only 1.2 ghz is to test whether its preventing the game lag. Generally when i OC with limits and intermediate ranges as 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3, mostly the mobile clock in 1.1 ghz and very rarely going to 1.2 ghz. So i skipped 1.1 and included only 1.2 ghz.. Just a testing.

Let's try again : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1950052 - it's a "fixed" kernel by codeworkx for the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, my other device, which also had serious lags and freezes in ICS as our Galaxy R. Hope there is magic you can add from that to your kernel.
Ok now..included intermediate freq of 1100 and then the BFQ scheduler as suggested by Adam. Getting few compiler errors for BFQ. Will check it tomorrow.
And finally setup the environment for AOSP build. As Ubuntu 12.04 was not supporting all the branches to do AOSP build (though its gud for kernels), now setup a diff environment using 10.04. Will Start init/sync tomorrow.
Nice work buddy! You can spare a lot of upload bandwidth by adding a '.gitignore' file. It tells git to ignore the specified files so they will not be pushed. Get one (specified for kernels) here: https://github.com/Adam77Root/android_kernel_samsung_i9103/blob/jellybean/.gitignore

Can you rename the files to see a difference ?
I can't vouch for which one cm11 will use as its kernel varies between both...what happens is between my ROMs and omni/fat toad is graphical tearing...if one of these 2 causes this said tearing then try the other...I'd say try using TeamApexQ version first...

Notice reboots typically occur when accessing data (Internet) but not only Wi-Fi. No games, just Googling something. Also, using no themes. Did use trickster mod to set up your recommendation of sio/Wheatley, but that's it.

I also have trickster mod along with pimp my rom, and a few others. I have also experienced some reboots until I put min at 1350 and max at 1512 and performance gov and io scheduler row. To do a "clean wipe" does this mean a full factory reset. I hope not. That is just something I am not going to do. That's why I'm still on carbon and not on the liquid rom.

i suppose a uninstall of trickster mod AND pimp my rom and a dalvik wipe and cache wipe then do a dirty flash of rom and then do the kernel same method will work...but curious as to why use outdated and unsupported apps like this when it has it built into the rom itself....im not intending to come off negative but this app and kernel tuner has been widely known since jellybean to cause reboots and even bricks of some devices. the min cpu should also NEVER be set higher than 480....thats one way to really overheat and kill battery hence why i removed the mpdec touchboost that teamapexq uses
I'd love to add some (or all) of the governors and schedulers to the stock kernel (4.1.2). Do you have a github for the source? It would be super appreciated.

i suppose a uninstall of trickster mod AND pimp my rom and a dalvik wipe and cache wipe then do a dirty flash of rom and then do the kernel same method will work...but curious as to why use outdated and unsupported apps like this when it has it built into the rom itself....im not intending to come off negative but this app and kernel tuner has been widely known since jellybean to cause reboots and even bricks of some devices. the min cpu should also NEVER be set higher than 480....thats one way to really overheat and kill battery hence why i removed the mpdec touchboost that teamapexq uses

Interesting perspective. I've rooted and run many custom ROMs and kernels on a Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, HTC One m7, and Nexus 5 with Trickster Mod and have never seen that app cause random reboots if the kernel parameters are set within reason (no UV or OC). Maybe I've just been lucky, but that would be very, very lucky as that lack of reboots applies to every ROM and every kernel combination with every single device I've tried over a few years. Even though I'm selective as to what I flash, that's in the hundreds as I can flash several times a day. And all with Trickster Mod on board.
The Relay 4G just seems unduly fragile to me. I've seen it reboot more times in a week than the other devices I mentioned randomly reboot in a year. I'm certainly not blaming any dev for this (and am thankful for all the efforts put here) and want to acknowledge just how difficult it must be to squeeze these great ROMs into a device that probably wasn't designed to handle them. Again, no disrespect to the OP.

Well nexus devices are built pretty vanilla when it comes to android so its compatibility outreaches more....I've had reboots on every Motorola and HTC devices I've owned....I know for me I haven't had a reboot but I guess I'm lucky....but it could just be small incompatibilities in our code that may cause this and we just haven't found them or figured it out yet

Which is probably why, as a flashaholic, I stick to Nexi(?). My girlfriend, however, insists on a physical keyboard *sigh*.
Thanks for the ROMs and kernel; you're singlehandedly keeping this device relevant. Well, you and TeamApex.
Stop it so I can get her a new phone already...! (kidding)

I would just like to add, if I may, that after uninstalling those apps I have not had any random reboots. Also on a topic unrelated, that viper4android fx app does not play well with poweramp, got rid of poweramp.

I was asked to bring an AOSP kernel to you guys for the D850.
I do not have this phone, so I may not be able to answer all your question. It'll be up to you and the Team.
This is for AOSP
So for your flashing pleasure, may I present to you...
Mutiny Kernel

Just some infoAs of V1.1, there is a new install method. If it doesn't work on install, you will need the original kernel from the Rom you are running. If you are just updating, then we should be fine.
One Reserved for me

Nice thanks

Sorry guys. Had an update ready to go, and life kicked in.
I'll hopefully get this updated in the next few days.
V1.1 in the OP
A little more to play with now.
Edit: I'm trying a different updater-script I found. If it works, it should make it compatible with more ROMs.
Big thanks to whoever came up with it!
I can confirm that it's running beautifully on Cyanide L - no issues at all so far.
Being an amateur, I'm not entirely sure what all the different governors and schedulers can offer. I've played around a but, but if anyone has a description of them that would be great.
Is the DT2W feature a function of the kernel or ROM? I ask, in part, because I see it discussed often in ROM threads, but rarely in kernel threads. And the few times I've seen the issue raised in kernel forums, it's never addressed. I assume that's because it's a dumb question in the context of replacing the kernel. However, I seem to lose the DT2W feature with every kernel I've been able to successfully install, which leads me to suspect it is a function of the kernel.
To be clear, this is not a complaint. I'm just trying to determine if I'm doing something wrong or if this is an inevitable consequence of replacing the stock kernel.
I just installed Mutiny-Kernel-AOSP-850-V1.1 on CM12.1 and it looks like I have oversharpening

I think, is built into a kernel. But not this one.
The other kernels that do say they have it, I think you need to activate it in terminal. They have it posted in their threads.

It should be built in. But if you don't like it, flash skins script to set it to your liking.
How's the battery life guys?

It's using the ramdisk from the rom you are coming from. That should hopefully solve the ramdisk issues.
@engine95:
Hello, I am interested in doing some kernel programming for the LG D850. I just got the phone recently and want to add a few things I'd like to use this kernel and install script/ramdisk as a base. Kindly requesting your permission. Also, what version of the kernel source was this based on? I requested release of 21q or newer from LG today, hopefully they post it soon. Thanks for your consideration.

I've been sidetracked doing other things lately. Thanks for asking.
