I am hoping someone can help. I just got a new BT Frontier yesterday and connected it to my phone. However, whenever BT is on and I try to go into the Gear App it immediately switches over to the update screen from the Samsung App. When I try to go back it keeps going to this screen. The only way I can keep the Gear app open is to turn off BT. I have a Galaxy S7 on Verizon running the beta version of Nougat so I'm wondering if this is causing issues. I also tried clearing the cache, resetting the watch but nothing helps.
Thanks for any help.

I had this exact same problem. I have a Verizon S7 Edge on the Nougat beta...this aggravated the **** out of me. I just found the fix less than 2 minutes ago.
First open your "Galaxy Apps" app
Then go to the top right to the "..."
Then select "Settings"
Then scroll down and select "About Galaxy Apps"
Within this screen you can do an update. Once the update was complete I didn't experience this problem anymore. Hope this helps :good:

There is a paid app by Mobiteka called Gear Navigator Companion on the Gear S2 app store. The app needs a free app by the same name to be installed on your phone https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiteka.navigator&hl=en
The app supposedly uses the Google Maps api to offer navigation and street view on your Gear S2. I installed the free Android app on my Galaxy Note 5 and purchased the app for the Gear S2. However the app always fails to get installed on the watch with the message "Unable to continue without your Gear connected. Connect your mobile device to your Gear and try again". This happens despite the fact that my Gear S2 is very much connected to my phone and is receiving notifications just fine.
I have left a negative review on the Gear app store and will update this post if and when the problem gets fixed.
Update (on 01 December 2015)
The developer contact me within 10 hours of my review and offered some helpful suggestions on how to get the app working. To be on the safe side, I conducted a factory reset of my Gear S2 and repaired the watch with my phone and the app managed to get installed on the first try. It works well with the companion app on the phone and I'm pretty happy with how things turned out. I have modified my review to give it 4 stars.

Happend to me plenty of times when installing an app on the watch. Sometimes a reboot helped and sometimes a soft reset. Not the fault of the app developer... If you must, blame Samsung

What phone are you using? As already mentioned all over this place, you won't see any fee-based apps with a non samsung phone... and no, there isn't a feasable way around this by now.

That's the problem. I'm using an LG V10. Wonderful phone and works well with watch. But I guess there are compromises. No way to sideload at this point??

Nope. You can try using sdb over wifi... (http://developer.samsung.com/technical-doc/view.do?v=T000000251&pi=1&ps=10&pb=Y&ct=CT030000&sc=) , but you would still need the app...

Yup, I am. I've had this problem for at least a couple weeks now. I get the error message just about every 5 minutes or more. My watch displays the standalone symbol at the top. I've factory reset the watch multiple times as well as "disabled" the Gear app on my S7. Since it's a factory app I can't uninstall it.
A couple of the times I factory reset, it's worked, but after a few hours, it stops working again. I didn't have this problem until I updated to the latest version of Android 6.0.1. Which leads me to believe this is an issue with the app not the watch.
I still wear the watch, though I don't know why, as it's basically useless now.
I have the Gear S2 3G from Verizon with the following.
Iphone 7+ with IOS 10.2
S2 Firmware is R730VVRU2BPC7
The items I need help with are:
1) Is this the latest firmware?
2) If not what is?
3) If I still have to update, can I do it without a Samsung phone? I traded mine in for Iphone 7+.
Also:
I tried to use latest leak and did the following:
-Download leak and synced it with and placed on Iphone.
-Trusted it in settings.'
-Factory Reset Gear S2.
-Forgot Bluetooh settings on phone.
-Tried to connect and app says connecting, watch spins setting up and then the app crashes.
-It wants to send crash report. Meanwhile watch is caught in setting up loop.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not familiar with using a Gear S2 with an iPhone, as I have a Note 4. Hopefully someone with an iPhone can jump in. I can say this, the leaked firmware was for a BT only Gear S2. It will not work with our S2s that are 3G/4G. I also have one, but mine is from T-Mobile. I checked Verizon's website. The latest firmware there is BPC7, the one you mentioned. That is not the new update that everyone is talking about that has the S3 features. I'm not sure what to suggest, because your phone is possibly caught in this loop from trying to install an update that won't work with it. If someone has the BPC7 update file, it might be possible to flash that. But PLEASE don't take my word for that, as I don't have an iPhone, and I really don't know how that works. Best to wait until an iPhone owner can give you better advice.
Is anybody having issues with Gear S3 classic disconnecting very frequently? Any fix for this? I'm using Galaxy S4 GOC1 (5.0.1) ROOTED Verizon.
Mine has never disconnected from my Moto G4. You say you're rooted, are you still using the stock rom?

Maybe, there is time that it doesn't disconnect at all for awhile then randomly starts doing it and continues right after the other .
My workaround with "Trigger" app works fine. Each time the watch is disconnected my script reconnect the watch after 3min disconnected. Worked every time this last days.

Hi, can you please walk me through which settings you set up for this matter.
Also are you running pro version? Thanks
I not use the pro version.
You can select a trigger -> bluetooth and select wich device supervice for disconnect, so select the Gear in the list.
Then you can select action after this disconnection -> so for example : wait 10s or 3 min , turn off BT, wait 10s, kill Gear Manager, turn ON BT, select connect the Gear device, launch the Gear Manager.
Can confirm, Trigger is the answer
I used the Trigger suggestion posted above and have experienced zero issues since setting that up. The free version works fine for this so no need to get the pro subscription.

I can't wait to give this a shot. My Gear Frontier disconnects from my Galaxy S8 almost every time I use AndroidAuto (odd since that's USB), and i have to go back to the Gear app and press Connect to get it connected again. It must have 4 times a day, nearly every time I'm in my car. It's frustrating.
I suspect it's because Android Auto uses bluetooth for call audio or such, and I tried removing the bluetooth connection to my car, but Android Auto sets it up again every time you use it. And that seems to be the issue: Auto connects to the phone advertising the same capabilities (call audio) and so the phone drops the watch connection off. I'm not positive on the cause, but I'm positive that I'm tired of this experience.

My Gear 3 disconnects when Android Auto connects as well. I have a Samsung S8+ which was just updated to Oreo. I am going to try the trigger app.
I buy samsung products from retail upgrades and over stocks. I got some classics and some frontiers. The watches are on the older firmware. I kept one for myself. After a few days of everything working great, including the battery, I decided to update the watch which is 2 days ago. Since then, my watch keeps disconnecting constantly, and the range is much shorter
Since I updated my Pixel to Android 8.0 Oreo about a month ago, I don't get any notifications any more. The only thing that seems to be working is phone calls which I can see on my gear.
What I've tried to do, to solve it:
- Cleared data for the Gear app
- Uninstalled and reinstalled all Samsung applications
- Factory reset the Gear
- Checked that the Gear app has permission to notifications
- Checked that the Gear has the latest firmware
- Rebooted my Pixel
- Tried to connect my Gear S3 to a Huawei phone running Android 7.0 (notifications worked)
- Contacted Google that said the issue probably is because the Samsung app doesn't support Oreo
- Contacted Samsung that said Google is "probaby right" and I'll have to wait for an firmware update for the Gear which they have no ETA for?
If Google is right, everyone with Oreo should have this problem? Or atleast someone else? Is that the case?
I have Oreo beta on my Nokia 8 and have no problems which weren't present on nougat.
No issues with notifications.

Ok, does anyone else have any idea of what can be the issue for me?
I'm having the same issue. Also with my pixel. Tried everything you have also done. Almost at the stage I'm about to switch back to my old moto 360 until they release a patch. Not being able to receive any type of notification is a deal breaker for me.
have you tried to clean cache, stop the Bluetooth process on pixel and run it again?
Anybody got solution for this?
I upgraded OnePlus 3 to Oreo and notifications stopped showing on Gear.
Soon afterwards I upgraded Gear to Tizen 3 but that didi't solve problem.
The new software update that was released a few days ago solved the issue for me.
Exactly the same problems and frustrations
In short, have tried all the same actions as set out by yourself. No Gear 3 notifications started with Pixel upgrade to Android 8.0. Like others have stated here, makes wearing and relying on Gear watch very marginal. I bought Gear watch to pickup notifications when doing outdoors, relatively hands free sporting activities.
Everyone: please keep THIS discussion thread alive in search of eventual solution. Thanks. John, Sydney Australia
Same issues
I recently purchased a gear s3 Frontier watch, after much researching, it was the one that most fit my wants.
It is paired with my Pixel phone and for the first 3 or 4 days it worked great but now I don't receive any notifications at all except for Samsung Health... Notifications are all turned on but nothing comes through?
It seemed to have started with the Tizen 3.0 update. But could't say if it was immediately after or a day or two later. I've done multiple resets but nada.
Phone calls do come through to the watch but my phone doesn't ring anymore when the watch is connected..
No settings were changed on the watch or the phone app.. One day it worked fine, the next day, everything quit...
This is very disappointing... these notifications were the reason I wanted a smart watch in the first place.
Any idea whats going on?
The watch is SM-R760 running Tizen 3.0.0.1 version R760XXU2CQL1
Knox 2.2.0
Know Tizen 2.2.0
SE for Tizen 1.0.0
TIMA 3.0.0
Pixel Phone on Android 8.1.0
Snapdragon S8 on nougat with a similar problem. My notifications will disable themselves and the switch to turn them back on will be grayed out and unselectable. Only way to get them to work again is by rebooting the watch and the phone, but it will only work for a few hours until it's broken again.
I have a similar problem with my Oneplus 3.
Evertyhing worked fine until I updated my phone to OxygenOS 5.0.3 Android 8.0.0. Since then the Gear S3 doesn't receive any notification. The only one are phone calls.
The settings for notifications are on (in the Gear App and OS settings unchanged). Resetting the watch didn't change anything. Round about 2 times a day the gear looses the bluetooth connection for ~30 seconds which is new as well.
Resetting the phone is no option.
Any ideas or new information about this problem?

I reinstalled the Gear app, repaired and resetted the watch which didn't change anything.
Though I forget about the Samsung Accessory Service app. After reinstalling this, rebooting the phone and repairing the watch the notifitications are working again.
In the matter of connection loss I can't tell not yet.

I know this is an old thread, but I stopped getting notifications on my Oneplus 7 Pro - Android 10. I had to turn off battery optimization for the three Samsung apps - Galaxy Wear, Gear Plug in and Samsung Accessory Service. I now have notifications back.
