Hi Guys, My Nexus 5 is stuck in a boot loop where it wont even get past the Google logo.
I have been searching around and have tried a number of things but nothing is working for me. Here's what I have tried so far:
- I thought the power button might be stuck down so I stripped and cleaned the whole thing. Button seems to be working OK but still in loop.
- Tried clearing cache through recovery mode. Once in recovery mode the power+vol up button will not bring up menu. It then reboots after 5 seconds and the loop starts again.
Currently I am trying to flash an OEM version onto the phone but the Bootloader is locked. Working through the guide here. I can connect to the phone. Execute the command 'fastboot oem unlock' but then when I attempt the reboot I get stuck back in the loop.
So yea that's where I am at so if anyone has any solutions for me that would be much appreciated.
Try nexus tool kit to unlock bootloader.

Do you mean the Android SDK Platform-tools or maybe the Nexus Root Toolkit? In either case the result is the same. As soon as the phone needs to reboot to unlock the bootloader it goes back into the loop and hence can not complete the unlocking.

It's your power button then nothing to do with nexus root toolkit.
I'm having the same problem, power button seems to work as it does not reboot itself
It stops in the Google logo for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which it restarts and does it again
When I do unblock the bootloader by adb and I will execute the command to reinitiate it back again to the screen with the Google logo with the bootloader blocked and thus be infinitely with the logo for 10 to 15 seconds
Anyone have any idea what that might be?
Sorry for my english.

hello frnds,
i am from india (duh) ...my friend bought a galaxy nexus s two days ago..
she had it up an running and it was working as it should.. but yesterday when she woke up..what she saw was that the phone won't boot up and a it shows a lock sign on the boot screen below google and that it was heating up badly... even the pc is not detecting it..i have the phone right now and i promised her that i'll fix it...
what should i do to keep up my promise!
bootloader is locked, phone won't boot
Hello,
The lock simply means that the bootloader of the phone is currently locked (as it is from the factory).
If it won't boot past the Google screen, try removing the battery of the phone for 10 seconds, then trying again.
If this fails, remove the battery again, replace the battery, hold down the UP volume button while pressing power until you see a green android screen. If you can see this screen, then use One Click Root 5.1 in the Development Thread for Nexus S or Nexus S 4G.
hmmm..
thank for the relpy,
well i have tried all that stuff i.e removing the battery for 10 sec..(didn't work)...
wen't to recovery mode(the green android thingi...) and tried recovery option won't work..
do you mean i should flash the firmware again by using one click?
thanks in advance!!
The lock sign means that the bootloader is UNLOCKED. If you didn't see the lock it would mean that the bootloader is locked (stock). The recovery option won't work because you haven't flash any custom recovery. In fastboot mode (volume up+ power button) it should say: LOCK STATE - UNLOCKED. This means that bootloader is unlocked. Use the toolkit (found in nexus s android development) to flash stock image.
Someone tried to do stuff to the phone and messed up.
thanks
i will try this let you know.:fingers-crossed:
thanks for the help:good:
What causes this though? I have codename jb And cwm 6 on my device and it randomly gets stuck on the boot screen through out the day
Got this nexus 5 unit and trying to fix here, when I try to unlock the bootloader they stuck on this
what should I do?
Yes, erasing can take a lot of time sometimes. I wouldn't suggest you to terminate the operation.. Wait for another 15 mins and see if it gets erased.. If not, start over. Don't forget to reboot bootloader...
Have you tried rebooting recovery (power button/volume down)?

Ok, so what's the issue now? Is the bootloader unlocked or locked?? Are you in a bootloop?

What do you mean by the recovery won't work?? What happens when you select Recovery from the bootloader??
To sum it up, here's your scenario..
Stuck in bootloop, Can't access recovery, can't unlock bootloader as it gets stuck on "erasing"..
I don't think you have much of a choice m8 other than RMA'ing it.. You need access to the recovery or to "unlocked" bootloader if you want to fix anything.

Let me explain, I enter in recovery mode, and I get the options : restart bootloader, recovery mode, power off, and start, it is that recovery mode that I told you that not work, the phone becomes ON but whith black screen, and if I power of and power on again, GOOGLE logo in white appear on the center of the screen and stays stuck on that

Yeah, I got what you meant the first time you explained...
Getting stuck on Google Logo means a bootloop..
Since, you can't access recovery and also unlock the bootloader, you're out of options.. I can't think of anyway to fix this.
My advice would be to switch off the phone.. Let it cool down for 15 mins.. reboot your computer or use another computer.. Try to unlock the bootloader now or try accessing the recovery.. If you still can't, I would RMA it..
Might i suggest flashing the stock google images again, a simple search in the forum or on google will help you with that, they come with a flash-all file that will do all the work for you. just need to download the files to be able to do it and will need to be in bootloader mode for the stock images to flash
If you have tried everything then try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...orial-how-to-flash-factory-images-lg-t2713833

My phone is stuck at the boot logo, and won't fully boot. The boot with the volume down button pressed doesn't work, or even the volume up thing, in order to enter fastboot I need to let it boot up to the logo then run the
Code:
adb reboot-bootloader
command. when i try the
Code:
adb reboot recovery
command, it boots to the oneplus logo, then reboots normally, and I am back to where I was. I cannot flash a new image, because my bootloader is locked, and in order to unlock it, the phone needs to boot up. Is there a way to unlock the bootloader without a full boot? Can I flash without an unlocked bootloader? Is it bricked? please, any feedback would be appreciated.

So you can't boot into fastboot with the power + volume up button combo after shutting the phone down (hold power)? No you can't unlock bootloader without successfully booting into fastboot. No you can't flash without unlocking the bootloader.

i can only turn the phone on in the normal mode. does this mean it's bricked? do I have to send it in?

I would think it's bricked, it's virtually impossible to brick this device. So it'll turn on when the power button is pressed, but it won't actually boot, right? Nothing at all happens when using the fastboot button combo? A little background info would be good, what lead to this situation?

The button combos do nothing, not even boot the device normally.
So, what happened is this: I was trying to root my phone, I plugged it into a windows 8.1 machine, and I was following a tutorial by C4Etech. It was working fine, until I unlocked the bootloader, after the it was unlocked, my machine could no longer recognize my device. I uninstalled and reinstalled countless drivers multiple times in an attempt make my machine recognize my device, rebooted my phone, my computer., the adb server, and anyhting else I could. Nothing worked. Angry and frustrated, I plugged it into my Linux Mint machine, and it recognized perfectly! because I am a noob, and have never done anything like this before, I began to panic when I saw that my phone wouldn't reboot like they did in the tutorials right after they unlocked the bootloader, so I skipped that part, and continued with the flashing. after flashing, my phone would no longer boot, so I thought I messed up with the unlocking portion because my phone wouldn't reboot after the "fastboot oem unlock" ( because I am a noob, I thought that the unlock was temporary, and that my many reboots of the phone managed to undo it.). thinking the unlock was the culprit to my broken phone, and thought adb must be glitched since it doesn't reboot after "fastboot oem unlock" like it did in the tutorials, like a genius, i typed in "fastboot oem lock" rebooted into fastmode, then typed in "fastboot oem unlock". I was filled with joy when I saw my phone reboot like it did in the tutorials, but my joy began to fade, as the phone was still booting after several minutes. And thats when I died inside, and began posting on many online forums, because google couldn't find anything that matched my situation.
the button combos stopped working after the flash.

Have you seen this?

Might be worth a try.
I have two Nexus 5 (one is mine, one is my wife's) that have recently following OTA updates from Google stopped booting.
They get to the Google logo, then to the animation and at this point switch off and reboot ad nauseum.
What can I do to bring them back to life?
Never known a phone so prone to firmware issues as this phone!
If the bootloader is unlocked, you re-can flash a stock ROM. Just be aware of the fact that unlocking the bootloader will factory reset the phone which results in complete data loss.
Its locked currently.
Is there a way of unlocking the bootloader whilst in this state?

Try holding the power and volume down button together, you should see it boot into fastboot mode, you can press the volume down button till u see recovery highlighted, press the power button and boot into it. From there just try to factory reset and see if that works, if it doesn't then I'll help you unlock your bootloader with the best knowledge I can offer if u got a PC.
Try booting into fastboot mode and leave it here for about 5 minutes. If it reboots by itself, it could be a defective/faulty power button.
Flash a factory image and it will be fine. i had same problem already, just google nexus factory images all instructions are there as well as factory images.

I had the same exact issue when it switched to slot B and stopped showing up on my computer when the device was in fastboot and I had no access to recovery mode. Try powering the phone down from fastboot with the power off menu. Then turn the phone on by holding the power button down and keep it pressed (it should cycle on and off b/w fastboot and a black screen. Keep holding until you feel a short vibration after about 30s - 1 min) It should then show it in adb and fastboot on your computer.
EDIT: If the phone isn't powering on, try charging it and if that doesn't work, try hard resetting it by holding the power button down for 30s-1 min. Can't imagine a bad flash would completely cause the phone to at least not load the bootloader.
