Hummm... I believe you mean «I miss monx ROMs FOC»...
If you like monx's ROMs so much, go to his site, donate/pay and get access to the download area... He is still developing... His ROMs just aren't FOC/FOD anymore...

It may seem like that and i kinda agree, but you're paying to keep his servers up and to access them not for the roms. Now if that really is all you're paying for and this may be a gray area but what if someone uploaded them somewhere else for free? Mind you i do have a account with his site and have used them for a long time but fell in love with the new 6.5.1 builds and am waiting for him to pick them up.

There are lots of people that are willing to upload ROMs for free (see other chefs ROM threads) to hosting servers or their own servers, but he doesn't want that. That's why he left XDA forum - to charge people for using ROMs... He may say that these ROMs are modified with many 3rd party apps, but these are also freeware applications and he is using them to earn money. Quite immoral...

I see your point and agree, but really at this point if you have used any of his roms lately they arent too good. Old builds old manila that doesn't work right and they aren't updated or supported as well as anything on this board. Just my 2 cents.
The Dev wants you all to remove it. Just got a tweet from him.

Glad I bought mine the other day. Not trying to be high and mighty, just glad. I think it is always best to get things legit, but right now even more so with the things going on with the apps over at apple (trying to lock devs in so they con not port apps from over there to over here). This app is android specific, but just keeping the android market healthy so that it is more attractive for devs, so we get better apps is always a good thing. Also the apps are stupid cheap, so it is kinda hard to say you do not have that money with the expensive phone you are using.
I responded in other thread, moving this to apps section. Check out my post in other section. If there is clear evidence that rom users are using the paid app and not the app supplied here on xda by developer let me know and I will take care of it.

? If the devs are using the same apk that he provides for the members then their shouldn't be a problem.
If anything you're stirring something up and for what?

Whether they use the same APK or not has no bearing on the fact that the owner/creator is requesting it to be removed from the roms with a valid explanation, and that's the ONLY thing that matters... Is it so hard to link to the setcpu thread in a rom thread and give the guy the credit he deserves and the possibility of making a measly $2 for his hard work if someone chooses to donate and not just download?
god forbid someone feels abused and changes a service nobody is entitled to, to begin with, how selfish of him... Sheesh

Well said.
The issue is this: The dev wants people to make a choice of whether or not to buy the donate version in the market. If the free version is included in /system/app (Read only partition!!) in a ROM, then the choice of "do i donate or not?" is eliminated. I don't think it's too much to ask.

Indeed! That's all I wanted to state. The SetCPU dev works VERY hard to keep it updated and working with every phone. He deserves credit.

Many interested hackers simply don't have a I5800, we can't expect them to buy it so I don't think donations are that bad. I'd prefer to give my money to gsam and precurse though Let's wait for 2.2 and see what can be done.

As far as I know Android (c) is for free. I'm not sure if this step is according to google policy. Anyway - thanks for the proposal - I would like to use stable and light ROM + I would like to choose what to install on it.
I like signatures like "you can buy me a beer". But I do not like "if 800..." anyway - you didn't input a time period ...

I just want Samsung to give me a light and stable 2.2 ROM - because I have paid for it. Plus Android is for FREE. So ? Will he share his income with XDA and Google ? If not then it's not nice.

what is being asked here is like a sale being done ie it looks like asking a price for the services this is like a sale a donation is different it is given by one individual to another in appreciation of his work done and it is not asked as is the case here and doing so is against the forum rules & to my knowledge the I5800 is the cheapest phone in the market at least when i bought it it was
morality is a good think but a faster i5800 is an even better thing
I don't see anything wrong with motivating a very busy developer
for most people who can contribute,5-10€ is not the end of the world and they would rather pay this than having a crappy phone

Hes interested in getting a g2x, so I told him id attempt to orchestrate a collection of funds to buy him a g2x. First things first, what will a no contract g2x cost? What is the cheapest anyone has seen one for sale off contract? Secondly, if anyone has an upgrade they are willing to donate, THAT WOULD BE PHENOMENAL! I'm good for $100 to start things off. That is why I hate xda bunch of free loading crack flashers that don't help the Dev. community just piss people off and whine for help when they get in trouble....... count me in for 20 bucks

have you been on the internet long? people are people. and you'll find people like that on any forum. i've seen people talking like that online since before the internet was mainstream. it's not only xda. there is no way to stop it. so just get used to it. but, i got your back on voicing your opinion as well. what xda needs is a dislike button. i've seen them on other sites. and after so many dislikes,your post gets hidden and members have to click "show" to see it.

People like you thinking it's ok to use these Roms for free without donating a dime is a FAIL!
These Devs work hard and long hrs. to make these roms for your phone to function and look better!
So a little donation wouldn't hurt for you to give!
Or better yet if you don't, don't bother commenting on it!
Don't look at it as paying for there phone, but rather an advance for work they are going to do for you!

Your idea is ingenious. I will take it up with a friend whose a mod here and see what he thinks. Not sure it will get too far but you never know.
That is a very good idea. Giving thumbs down to certain posters would warn other readers at this forum. It would also be useful against scammers who steal the Dev's work and pawn the mods as their own begging for donations. There was one on the Samsung Epic forum last year and on the Asus Transformer forum a few weeks ago.

I've been a fan of Franco's work since I bought my Samsung GNEX..
He's agreed to work on Dev'ing a Kernel for our phones.. But he lives out of country.
That being said he needs a phone.. Phones are going for between $400 - $550 on swappa so let's set that as our goal.

Are you or anyone else interested in setting up a well-formulated [BOUNTY] thread here then?
We can request a moderator to close this one, and we can set up a new one with a clear number goal, and we can keep it updated, then collect the money at once if we reach the goal number (isn't that how it's usually done?).
I'm sure we can do it, something like $450 between all of us SGS3 users who love Franco's work can certainly get that.
