WhatsApp Notifications - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Sometimes I don't get notifications at WhatsApp. I need to open the app again, and I get all the missed notifications. I don't find the old option "Protected Apps"..

Same problem here. Notifications sometimes stop working for Hangouts, Viber and WhatsApp.
Priority notifications are set to on, apps are whitelisted and excluded from battery optimalization. It seems that Huawei kills these apps anyway. Anyone found soulution?

Same issue. It's probably a software bug but I don't understand why are there some user that don't face this problem.

1. Go to multi-task to lock the app
2. Go to "App info > Notifications", switch on "Allow notifications" and "Priority display"
then I hv no more msg delay happen anymore

Still having the delays after all the steps taken. See attached. Set to ignore optimisation as well.
Kindly let me know anything that I might have miss out.

Had the same issue, reinstallation of Whatsapp fixed it for me.
Firmware B126.

Go to settings, battery.
Right under power savings from app choose 'close apps after screenlock' use the slider for whatsapp to don't close.

Uninstall and rebooted the phone. Reinstalling whatsapp after rebooting seems to have fixed the issue for now. Thanks !

Ignore Battery Optimization
It's the battery optimization code in the new software of Huawei.
Go to settings, search for "ignore battery optimization", show all apps, and turn the setting on for Whatsapp (or any other application of whom you need to see the notifications instantly). That's the only way to fix it..
Power intensive prompt and notification priority will not fix it.

But the guy just ahead said 2 times that has do the ignore battery optimizations.....
In Chinese version nothing of this is working if you close apps from recent list (multitasking list) so you have to lock them there

It's exactly the same thing.... Go to apps-press settings icon-special settings (or something like that) battery Optimization....
It's just the same thing... I have allowed Facebook messenger viber Instagram whatsup Twitter and with all other settings me and everyone else with Chinese version can't take real time notifications except if we keep this apps running in recent apps list....

In this case I am wrong. But this solve my problems with notification settings.
I think ?

True, only way is to lock it in recent menu.
On international firmwares there is no problems with notification.
Yesterday i rebranded my international phone to Chinese firmware and the notifications stopped working.

Ok, I am noob with Android, my apps was blocked in battery optimization and that was the solution.

There are several threads on notification problems - one is about 17 pages the last time I looked. Following the instructions there fix it for some but not all. The update that's coming soon (UK today?) will maybe do the trick...

Do you ever clear recent applications?
Do you have Chinese phone?

1. Yes
2. I don't know, I have a MHA - L29 with B126 firmware

So you have international model not the chinese one that have notifications bug.

Build B138 is out in UK today... can't get to it until I get home though. Any improvement for anybody?

App notifications + Wifi? Some answers some questions

So I have stumbled across a bug that is rather frustrating. This bug was that I could not receive notifications in "real time"( if that makes sense) basically I mean very delayed. A fellow XDA member pointed me out to a thread that has a solution for this which goes as follows:
Settings-> Additional settings->Battery& performance -> Manage apps battery use->chose apps.
After that its pretty straight forward.
My current problem is that I still get delayed notifications in Wi-Fi. I have tested this out on about 10 different Wi-Fi networks. I am sure this is some stupid MiUi setting hidden somewhere making the phone go in a deep sleep state or a battery mode or something..
Before people start recommending installing CM, I am not interested in it, until CM bugs are fixed, Also this is not a solution that answers my question.
I hope the solution above has helped other people as it has for me, for the Wi-Fi issue any thoughts or suggestions are more than welcome.. (Haven't tried the IPV4 thingie I read in XDA but that doesnt seem like a solution that I can apply when I am at someone elses house or out =/ )
About the notifications problem
I don't know if we are talking about the same issue, but I have seen delayed notifications on many phones and Android versions in the past. Also, the web is full of forums and sites where people complain about this. I think this is more a Google Cloud Messaging bug than a Xiaomi or Miui bug.
Maybe the people here suffering from this issue can try this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andqlimax.pushfixer
Helped me in the past. You can chance the heartbeat of your internet connection to keep it alive.
I can't say if i have this issue because i didn't got much notifications in the last days. At least i didn't noticed something. Also my banking app notifies me immediately when i do banking stuff or pay somewhere.
Also, the people who gets disconnected when they turn off the screen on Miui, there is a setting in the security app under battery profiles which says by default "clear on lockscreen". Maybe making an own profile with a different setting helps here

You can read about it in the projects XDA-thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2142503
I read about "heartbeat interval", but if the problem is it, notification should not work correctly even when screen is on. While it seems here we are speaking when the screen is off, right?

I made some research, and i wrote all settings that could be interesting. I write them here just to be sure all settings was checked.
These settings should be adjusted, besides your pushing apps (wapp, facebook, etc.), even for:
- Google Services Framework
- Google Account Manager
- Google Play services
- Google Play Store
Code:
1.Goto Security->Permissions->Autostart and give autostart permissions to the Google Services Framework,Google Account Manager and your Messaging apps like whatsapp, hike, etc.
2.Goto Security folder>permissions> and give permissions to each apps.
3.Goto Security->Data Usage->Data Usage Stats and Select your app . After that check if background data is enabled. If it is not enabled, enable it
4.Goto Security->Data Usage->Data Saver->Manage Apps and turn off optimization for the messaging apps.
5.Goto Settings>Additional Settings>Battery>Manage app battery usage, now disable/turn off the following options.
- Manage app battery usage
- Restrict apps when battery is low
Or
- Select "Choose apps to restrict" and unselect/untick the apps from the list
6.Goto security folder and click the check button.
7.If you have already opened these apps you will see these apps in the memory tab.
Click on the memory tab and uncheck these apps and any other apps you desire or you can simply go to recents panel and lock this app by swiping down.
8.Goto settings<security<locatIon<location acces<permissions<messenger<display pop up....
Finally reboot the device and check.
Do you hav adjuested all these checks? If yes, it is clear there is a GREAT bug in MIUI rom, or better miui kernel.
People, don't try nothing, this is simply a MIUI bug!!!

I don't even have any of these options on my Mi4C. For me it looks like all those Google apps are hidden? I can only change permissions or power settings for WhatsApp, can't find Google Services Framework etc
I only get WhatsApp messages reliably if my phone is unlocked and WhatsApp is open. And can only connect to WhatsApp Web if my phone unlocked and WhatsApp open.... Really frustrating.
Keep finding I've missed messages from hours ago cause they never showed up in notifications.
I've done everything here: https://www.whatsapp.com/faq/en/android/20887936
Installed Push Notification Fixer
Still same problem. Must be MIUI bug

Push Notification

Hey All, I was wondering if anyone is experience push notifications issues with the oppo F1 or delays in getting alerts on apps. For example i don't get any notifications from ebay or linkedin as well as a few chat apps. I was wondering if anyone is having the same problem or is it just me. I contacted Oppo and they are investigating about this, but i wanted to get other people thoughts.
Also for me viber doesn't sync with my contacts, is that a problem with others?
Apart from that I'm loving this phone... I had a Samsung note 2 before and this surpasses it in every way regardless of screen size.

Thanks for the tips, by the way i had data saving on but I added linkedin, ebay, etc as trusted apps which wasn't working, I'll try turning off data saving and see how it goes...
Is all push notification apps working for you? the most do for me like viber, whatsapp, skype (except that viber doesn't synch with my phone contacts) i find that some apps aren't working with push notification in specific for me ebay and linkedin are good examples.

Try to turn off "smart power-saving mode" .
thanks for the tips everyone. I tried the power-saving mode off, and giving that a go at the moment. I did notice that it still didn't work with data saving off. So I turned it back on and whitelisted the apps that I want with notifications. I'll see how it goes. By the way Williamlin零件件 i got your email, yes I already have the lockdown of the app in task manager, still didn't work though.
I'm also facing same problem with new my oppo f1 . Tried data saving disable. No l luck. Can someone please suggest ?
Try this:
Setting - Allow drop-down notification bar on lockscreen interface - ON
Although I would not want notification on lockscreen, but this seems to solve the bug.
I am using F1+
Check all the security and power saving settings. The phone will freeze apps in the background or with screen off to conserve power. I have the same issues with my Find 7 and have had to go through the settings very carefully. It will even interfere with my clock widget as I have a different launcher and widget running.
It seems a lot of Chinese phones do this now. My Huawei Mate 7 has similar settings. I'm not sure if it's a general lollipop thing.

Start whatsapp, hit home then open Settings > App management and in the "Running" tab you will see whatsapp. Beside it there is a padlock icon, press it and it will turn green. This locks the app in memory and prevents it being closed automatically to save power and memory.
How to deactivate security centre in oppo f1+ because i m using apps you need antivirus..
Tried them all, whitelisting Telegram in the task manager, allow notifications on the lockscreen, disabled autocleaning, smart whatever. Notifications are still not coming through.
How is it possible they incorporate so many ways in their os to kill one of the most basic and important functions of a phone!
And if it CAN be fixed, why make it so complicated! aarrrgh
Have you try go to the setting --> battery --> Others -->
Go to the apps that you need to get notification --> Turn OFF "Freeze when in background" and Turn OFF "Automatically optimize when an abnormally is detected".
Try that.. if cannot then its the OS problem with the App...
my Telegram also cannot have notification.......
push notification on Oppo
Hi ,
I am working on pushnotification for android device, but when my application is killed I am not receiving any notification, what permissions should I set to receive the same.
Thanks in advance
To turn on the notification sound on oppo f1s
To fix this problem though, there are some things you need to do in order. Here we go then.
1. Open the application you choose and tap on Recent button Swipe the app down to ensure that padlock icon is there in left corner
2. Go to Security Center, Privacy permission, then Startup manager
3. Make sure that the app is allowed
4. Go to Setting, Additional Settings, then Application Management
5. Go to Automatic cleaning and turn off the Automatic clear apps
6. Go to Settings, Battery, then Others, and click on the app
7. Make sure the Freeze background app and Auto optimize are turned off
8. Go to Security Center to turn off Self-diagnosis frequency and Permission Monitor
9. Update the version to*X9009EX_11_A.16_160512
Found it on the websites, i forgot which one, but hope this might help, mine works. Good luck!

I just studied this issue several days ago. Here are some advice for you.

Make sure the option 'App auto-lanuch' enabled and the 'Close after screen locked' disabled.
2. Settings - Apps - WhatsApp - Notifications
Make sure all options enabled.

You are welcome.
As we are not sure why and when the option 'App-Auto-Launch' on your phone was disabled automatically, you can also try to give the app full access to all permissions.
Settings - Apps - WhatsApp - Permissions - Set individual permissions, enable option 'Trust this app'.
Any result, please feedback here to all.

Hi James,
I have done all the settings required as per your recommendation, and I have observed the behavior of whatsapp for few days. I noticed sometimes it works and other time it doesn't. after doing those settings recommended the phone started alerting me about applications that are the top consumer of power; Whatsapp, Firefox are always in the top. Power is a big concern for Mate9 and everytime battery goes less than certain threshold (50%), the phone decides to make-asleep the power-consumers.
Cool, I believe no solution to such effect other than keep the phone on charger

It was said that it is the stock app, Phone Manager, which will occasionally stop WhatsApp improperly. And the suggested solution is to disable its some option as below.
Settings - Apps - Phone Manager - Write system settings, disable the option, 'Allow write system settings'.
I just wonder whether this whatsapp issue only exists on China version Mate 9.
the mate 9 is not the only phone from HUAWEi / HONOR which was affected to this problem! I had this on my Honor 7 too.
Reason for this behaviour seems to be the deep sleep function of their devices.
Edit, solved issue

Another solution is to search for "ignore battery Optimisation" in settings and disable it for WhatsApp.
Its because of the battery saving features on emui cause the halt notifications. But no worries, it has a solution.
1. Go to settings>battery, tap on the settings icon on top right corner, make sure everthing off in there except keep mobile data on during sleep.
2. Go to settings>battery>lock screen cleanup, make sure your desire apps not turn on.
3. Go to settings>apps, tap on the setting icon on center, go to special access>ignore optimisations, change to all apps, choose your desire apps, and make it allowed.
Voila! All sets and your desire apps will be working normally without notification halted. Hope it helps.

Notifications issue?

Hi there
I have a question for the international users of the Magic 2. I have not yet owned a Honor device but had several Huawei Mate devices in the past. The ones which I had from China always had the issue with delayed/not syncing notifications, for example Whatsapp etc. It only got better with the international firmware on it.
Does the Magic 2 also have this issue, seeing it only comes with Chinese Firmware?
Thanks very much!
I have the HM2 and I haven't experienced any issues with notifications, using Whatsapp, Telegram or whatever.

I have had a different experience unfortunately. Some apps only seem to sync and receive new notifications when I open them.
I've tried adding the problematic apps to "unrestricted data access" (despite it saying this should not effect notifications) to no avail.
Hope someone else has a solution!

That's exactly what I was afraid of, I also know this from my previous Huawei Mates.. well I have placed the order now already for it.. so I guess I will have to see.
Go to settings->apps->apps->WhatsApp(for example)->power usage details->app launch.
Change to manual and enable all. I think you can then switch it back to automatic.

These problems usually originate with power consumption settings and launch settings, if you let it run in the background and launch itself, it should work perfectly.
In any way I use Whatsapp regularly and it seems working fine with the default settings I had when installed.

And this
Most people that are having issues with notifications are totally unaware of the the aggressive battery saver on Huawei devices. You need to manually allow apps to run in the background and not be killed by the battery saver. Unfortunately the settings are but hidden and some time there are more than one option to were to do so.

Notifications not working

Hi,
Push Notifications work if I'm actively using the phone, but if I turn the screen off for more than 5 or 10 minutes notifications for all apps permanently stop. If I turn WiFi off and on again, the notifications come. I haven't popped a Sim card in their yet so maybe that would help?
Anyone have thoughts on why notifications eventually stop? I'm nearly 100% certain I have every battery and app setting to notify setup properly. I'm almost ready to give up.
Thank you in advance for your help.
As a side note, I have Google play services installed.
I don't have notication issue but I saw someone does. Maybe reset the phone ?

If I reset I'll lose Google play services and have to figure out how to put it back on.
Right now I get all notifications the issue is not getting them if I turn the screen off regardless if always on display is on. I'll try to send what happens if I just use cell service not both, but that's not really a solution. Also, notifications work with the screen off for about 10 minutes. Any longer and notifications stop. I guess it goes to sleep and is being super restrictive.
If you reset your phone, you can put GM's back on. Just download the package and instructions.
I think your notification problems may be in your permission app settings may be. I had outlook notification problems and fixed it by checking app permission. Android 10 has very strict notification settings.

If I go to app permissions I see view all permissions. Then I see a long list of some permissions you can click on and it explains what it is, but there's no toggle on or off. I get notifications just not with the screen turned off for more than 10 minutes.
I think I may be getting closer to narrowing down the issue. It doesn't appear to be happening if WiFi is turned off. I believe I read someone else on the this board was having the same issue with WiFi turned on or it could have been another Huawei phone.

Go to settings, click on search and type in battery optimization, then click all apps, then click don't allow for each app you want notifications from. This solved my problem. I hope it solves yours.

Isn't that a bug in the platform? They can't seriously expect users to do this for all apps that they want notifications from? It's ridiculous.

Ya it’s driving me nuts! I have reset the phone and all but its not working! I even did all the setups with battery and notifications and none help!
Thank
Disable PowerGenie for Notification
Someone might post a precise guide, to disable, via ADB, PowerGenie, so all applications do not go sleepmode and notifications all arrive correctly. Thank you...
