[Q] Using temp custom recovery to root

From my understanding, in order to receive ota updates I have to maintain my stock room and stock recovery. I would still like to root my phone but maintain the stock recovery. I've heard of ways you can boot into a custom recovery temporarily so that you can install SU. Once you reboot you regain the stock recovery. Does anyone have a quick guide on how to do this? I've already unlocked the bootloader and would like to root the manual way so that I can learn. Any help will be appreciated.

Just fastboot boot recovery.img. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47025283
Use the guide in my signature. At the part where you install the custom recovery, instead of using the "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" use "fastboot boot recovery.img".

Cm11S stock superuser

Does the oneplus one come rooted with superuser built in? Or would I have to flash a different ROM to achieve that.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
no. you cant get google certified if you sell with root. you dont need a different rom to get root. you just need to use fastboot to boot into an alternative recovery so you can flash a root binary to the system partition.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632 everything you need to know to obtain root is there

Q Return to Locked for OTA

I ran the sunshine unlock and S-OFF so I want to update my device for the OTA Update, what steps would I take to do so?

what I did was use flashify to flash the proper stock recovery from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2723159) then you can take follow the steps on that thread to flash the zip through fastboot and adb
once that's done you can flash TWRP through fastboot and adb and then boot straight into twrp, restore root/flash whatever rom you want.

You don't have to return back to stock and take the OTA for the update. You can just flash the new firmware/radios and be on your merry way.
Check out this thread for more info.

Disable qe service in stockrom

I know there are only few people using stockrom here, but according to this:
Carrier IQ, round 2: Motorola's Android devices are running "Qe", a process which logs all modifications to the stock OS and sends them back to Motorola
nomatter VZW or MOTO do this, i decide to remove the service.
By disabling "service qe" section in /init.target.rc will totally disable /xbin/qe running while our xt897 is booting, and this will also speed up the booting time.
we can do this by modifying the boot partition.
Disclaimer:
!! This is only for Photon Q 4G LTE stockrom !!
Most custom roms are already removed qe from boot partition.
I cannot be held responsible if anything goes wrong while using this mod.
how to flash:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash boot mmcblk0p31_boot_mod.img
how to check:
every time you reboot the phone, "/xbin/qe /system" will be executed, and the result will be stored in /data/misc/qer
delete /data/misc/qer and reboot, you should no longer see the qer appeared anymore.
I also attached the original boot partition image just in case anything goes wrong.
(mmcblk0p31_boot.img is the original one)
So you have done this? Or are you only reporting it?

I have already stopped qe from booting in stockrom.
You can just do a simple flash to the boot partition.
Maybe the Droid4 and Razer also have this kind of problem, but i dont have these phones.
Ok, do you have the download to flash, or is it in the link?
Can this be flashed through TWRP etc, or only through ADB?

The .7z file attached to the OP is what you extract then flash.
Directions are in the OP:
how to flash:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash boot mmcblk0p31_boot_mod.img
Click to collapse
It could certainly be modified to flash via TWRP.
Ha - I thought the attached zip was the stock - that's how I read it.
