Does the oneplus one come rooted with superuser built in? Or would I have to flash a different ROM to achieve that.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
no. you cant get google certified if you sell with root. you dont need a different rom to get root. you just need to use fastboot to boot into an alternative recovery so you can flash a root binary to the system partition.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632 everything you need to know to obtain root is there

a little comfused that it says 'You're now free to install the ROM you want.' after part 4 'root'
Must the phone be rooted before flash a rom?

No you can flash without root.

You only need to be rooted in order to use ROM Manager... If you just unlock the bootloader and flash/boot Clockwork, I believe you can flash about anything.

thanks, I think you are right......with Clockwork anything can be flashed...
Having SU and Busybox installed is helpfully with some apps that require root such as titanium backup and root explorer.

It's the same as every other release.
- Flash custom recovery
- Use Custom recovery to flash SU binary
If your one click root script is automating that then it will continue to work without any issues. If it's not it's a fairly simple process...

Thanks. I just got nexus s, was using g2x.soon as I get a chance I will root and flash recovery.

It's irrelevant.
- Unlock the boot loader (fastboot oem unlock).
- You can now flash anything you want via fastboot (recovery, boot, userdata, etc). Flash a custom recovery (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img)
- Use said custom recovery to flash the su binary and chmod it appropriately
- Done
All the "One click root" scripts do is automate this process.
Unlike other Android devices the Nexus devices allow you to simply unlock the boot loader. You aren't relying on exploiting existing code on the device to gain elevated privileges in order to flash a new recovery/boot loader or place the su binary. Unlock the boot loader and do whatever the heck you want with it via fastboot - no update is going to break that.
Learn to USE your phone and do the manual root process. That way when you have an issue you will be familiar with the process of fixing your phone. Honestly it is the easiest phone to root.

Hi, I'm new here. I've searched but I think there's no answer to this question. This is my first xda thread.
So, here is the question: how should I root ns with official ICS rom?
I was using CM7 build for quite a few days. Just two hours ago, I went back to official 2.3.6 and upgraded to 4.0.3. My ns model is i9023.
I used fastboot to flash 5.0.2.0 CWM recovery to ns, and I was able to use the CWMr. Then I installed su.zip (from clockworkmod.com). After reboot I can see SuperUser there now, but still get no root access.
I think I should use a newer version of su.zip? I viewed one Galaxy Nexus rooting tutorial, in that tutorial they used the same su.zip and it worked. Any one can help?
you need to use the fastboot method as on the sticky

I think the regular rooting process is:
1.Unlock the device (already unlocked)
2.Use fastboot to flash CWM recovery
3.Boot into recovery and flash su
I did all of these, so maybe su package is the problem?
Same thing here.

The regular root process doesn't seem to work for ICS. Depending on which version of the su package installed, you would get different error messages on the terminal when you execute $su.
this update sucks. now im stuck with a slow nexus with no root no color correction hack and no root. the nexus is now another pos phone. ot happy with this BS
You are not stuck with nothing. Your phone has a unlocked boot loader. Flash what you want.

Try this su installer. Seems to have worked for a guy over there.

First of all I am new to all of this, but I recently flashed turge's new sense 5 stock Rom. The Rom is nice but I want to go back to my old cleanrom 6.5. But now it seems my phone is not rooted. I can get into bootloader and it still says 'unlocked' but I can't get my computer to recognize my phone via fastboot usb.
You can just install root, I'm on the same ROM and rooting it was easy. Download Superuser from Play Store, open it, it'll prompt you to update binaries, choose TWRP/CWM method. It'll do the rest for you.

I tried that but superuser gives me a prompt about the binaries and that 'this is a problem'. I did not check the md5, the Rom seems to be working well but eventually I would want to get back on a rooted Rom but like I said in another post, I'm not sure how i lost access to fastboot usb. Thanks for the help.
Download su for arm device:

Flash in twrp.

I'll try this, but how could I regain fastboot usb in order to go back to a rooted Rom.
You probably just need to sort your drivers out.

Hi I was going to use chainfires method but the best the web page it only sates 5.0 with the build number LRX210- which is different to 5.0.1?
Is there any way to root then?

of course there is a way to root 5.0.1.
use fastboot to either flash a custom recovery (TWRP is probably your best bet), or use fastboot to just boot into the custom recovery without flashing. Either way, once your in recovery, flash SuperSU (download here http://download.chainfire.eu/641/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.40.zip)
done and done.

You sir are very wrong, you cannot flash that zip in recovery because it no longer works with lollipop... (Sigh)
PS. I have a custom recovery and unlocked boot loader so your suggestion are invalid

actually, it does work. with 5.0.1, I'm rooted. Except when I flashed 5.0.1, SuperSU v2.40 hadn't yet been released, so I rooted with SuperSU v2.37, and then updated via the playstore when 2.40 came out. but it definitely works with Lollipop.
p.s. you need to have an unlocked bootloader to install a custom recovery (which is what I suggested doing). So in fact, my suggestion is completely valid and 100% relevant. In fact, I had assumed that you already had an unlocked bootloader when I posted.

Your point is again invalid and 100% incorrect- I have just tried and it has not given Me root. I have to manually re-root not flash the zip. See attachment

yes, and the way to "manually re-root" is to flash the ZIP in a custom recovery. You the app installed, but not the SU binary. So flash it in TWRP.

CF Auto Root and flashing the superSU2.40.zip in recovery both root android 5(0.1/0.2). Did it myself and confirming root access.
You can root with the same chainfires files for 5.0, and then you can update supersu and twrp

It astounds me how you have the guts to ask for help - then someone gives you an answer that is completely right and you do a hard six and blatantly flame them for trying to help you.

Crazy. Done it to me a few times. I even decided not to help him ever again some time ago, then took pity on him yesterday or the day before and the he did it AGAIN!
He's just a school kid, but you'd hope he would learn from his attitude, but apparently not.
What's worse, is he isn't even picking up the knowledge that people give him or reading the stickies. He's been Here pretty much a year in the n5 forum and cannot even be bothered to.understand the basics. Asks the most basic questions every time.
