Hi,
I am using the non-LTE version Frontier.
On Samsung site it says:
"*Bluetooth model requires Wi-Fi connection and a voice call app for phone-free calls."
When BT is connected , call works through the phone.
But when I disconnect BT and connect to the phone through wireless network, call is not allowed.
What may be the "voice call app" stated above? Where can we find it ?
Thx.
no ideas anyone ?
i am also looking for it (spotify also )
I'm also curious about this. Everyone who I have asked has no clue what this app is

On my phone, I use a call app called CSipSimple. You can get it on the Play Store. It is open source (code available for download) so maybe someone who knows how to program for Tizen could rewrite it for our watches. Hopefully someone has already started something like this.
I'm going to assume they will eventually release something official. By the time a developer gets around to developing something with all the bugs worked out it may be useless.
will they release something ?
are we assuming ? because what's written on the product page is not really explaining...
agree, they have really dropped the ball in the handling of this watch from logistics to support
any update on this? I tried to make call over wifi with my non lte s3 but this doesnt work. Any voice call app available? Im hoping that whatsapp or viber will come out with their own tizen app for s3.
nothing yet
They want to push the LTE version I'm assuming. Look for them to drag their feet when it comes to getting such an app out there.
has anyone reached out to samsung to find out if and when they will ever release this?
A quarter later and still no release info. No surprise Samsung drops the ball again
any news on that topic, I was chasing to get an information about this feature but the internet stays quiet about it...
is it someone caring about that feature, cause I am? Coming from the Gear S with sim capabilities I feel like a leftover (not possible to get the esim version in my country)
pitty

Yeah, samsung drop the ball again. Their latest update saying there is going to support samsung internet for gear. Up until now, nothing.

Any updates on this? Has an app like WhatsApp, Line, Viper, Skype or similar been released to use as standalone from the phone? I.e. it would be great to make calls while in the gym and being only connected to the gym wifi and my headset Bluetooth.

Nope. In order for it to work with non-Samsung devices you need to install Gear Manager and Atb manager apps on your devices, no way to do that with iphone.
Edit: Did a quick search online and someone said they connected it to an iPhone and it did make calls. When you get it try using blutooth and connect it to your iphone.
wont work
The gear 2 arrived and not visible to the iphone but works great with my note 3 maybe there will be a test firmware out soon.

hey guys,
I have a gear 2 neo and a iphone 5s,
when you go on watch and go to settings, bluetooth and select "make device visible" you can pair to an iPhone.
working
make a call with the dialer
iphone ringtone comes through when receiving call
receiving a call.
call logs
contacts
not working
siri
all other apps that communicate with phone so watch-on heart rate and pedometer etc still work.
How were you able to check off the make device visible?
It's grayed out.

Yep that did it. Works now.
All we need is for samsung to release an app to get the other functions working now.
Wow, hope that happens for you guys - the voice commands are an awesome part of the watch. Not sure if Apple will allow the watch to ever hook into Siri, though. I'm suspecting you may have to wait for Apple to release theirs.

Works indeed on my iPhone 5S, nice
Too bad no other notifications (SMS, Whatsapp, ...) are sent to the iPhone..
Hopefully with a jailbreak tweak? + rooted Gear 2?
So just a quick recap:
The Gear 2 does connect with the iPhone through BT and calling and receiving calls works, as well as contacts and call logs.
Can someone confirm?
guys by know you should know that Apple and samsung have been in lawsuit to one another so no way they have any of there gear to work with iPhone

So Calls and some other functions work, and if you don't have an android device with Bluetooth you can still install gear 2 apps with a computer and the Tizen SDK (adb ripoff) as long as you have the install package

got a question for anybody who's watching this thread: when i try to connect my gear 2 to my iphone 5s(jailbroken) it always ask me to factory reset my gear 2 neo. any suggestions as to why it's doing that or any solutions??
It does that whenever you pair to a new device. Is designed to only be paired to one phone so it will reset if that phone changes.

I am facing the exact same problem with my Tizen Gear 1. I have set it up with an android device, but when I try to connect with an iPhone the God damned watch wants to reset itself, so I cannot connect it,
The crazy thing is that I have done it in the past. I have been using my Tizen Gear 1 with my 5S for quite some time, I do not remember having to deal with this error message.
Any help?

Your gear is going to reset every time you repair it. When it goes to the setup connection screen, tap the watch icon in the top left about 20-25 times, it will then show a message at the bottum. After that message disappears hold down on the watch icon until you get to the clock screen. This will activate without connection. Then go to setting>connections>Bluetooth and hit make visible. Your iPhone will show it as 'gear 2 (xxxx) hit that and it will pair. The only thing working so far are the stand alone apps and calling.
Good day all,
I ve had this watch for almost a year now and I still cant get SVoice to function similarly to OK Google on my Android Wear watch. Any advice?
It either doesnt hear me or my favorite part is when I say "text so and so" it will tell me that person is not in my contacts list.
Also is it me or does HERE navaitgator not work great (Im in NYC) as well as Google Maps on a wear watch? Maybe Im comparing too much..But there are serious quality dips here.
I asked the same question awhile ago and got zero response. Near as I can tell all it does is record a voice memo with no Reminder functions. Which is a shame cuz I'd love to have that. I can still read a Reminder on my watch from the phone though.
S Voice couldn't call a particular person or any other to be exact, then I added that person to a "buddy" list as a favorite and S Voice was able to recognize and call. I tried to do some navigation, but was getting a route only overview, no directions. I think it is possible to install Here Maps on the watch or it may need to be installed on the phone to function. Will try tomorrow.
Yeah, it's not Google, for sure. I wish there was some way the S2 would work with Google but apparently that's out.
Feedback for S Voice
Hi all,
We'd like to know more about the issue you're having with S Voice.
Can you please share the device information?
Please feel free to reply through here or on private message.

I use both gear S and S2. The gear s I use for work with a work sim and I can say "call <name>" and it dials from my work number even though the contact is on the phone, same for text. Is it a permission issue you're having? Though I do use a Samsung phone so maybe that helps, but to be honest I've tried the gear S wear port and found a new love for tizen on the S and S2, it's not pretty but does what I need and has best by far battery life.

This forum is for every one who want to share info, experience and hope... about a strange pair between the iPhone (that in my opinione is still the best phone, and I've a iPhone 6 and a Samsung S5) and the Gear S3 that is much better than iwatch.
Actually there is a long way for obtain a full compatibility between them.
Any one know, or suppose how the iOS gear s app will integrate the S3 and if there were, in the early future, the possibility to answer to the message.

iPhone 7 and S3. Same here. Essentially one direction communication, displaying "notifications" and not the actual messages/emails (i think). Cannot reply to messages, and cannot delete messages or emails from the watch.
I hope this changes in future updates...
iPhone 7 and S3 here as well. So far quite ok for a first version. I guess it's a pretty good opportunity for Samsung to conquer some Alien terrain here if they do well. I hope I won't get disappointed.
It´s suppose to be an solution if you install the app "Android Ware" on the Iphone, just install and leave it alone they say, and it adds some protocols that make it possible to answer messages on the S3 from the Iphone.
Have tried this, but not getting it to work.

Why would the "Android Wear" app do anything for a TizenOS watch? The Gear S3 is not running Android Wear.
Anyway, I also have the Gear S3 and a iPhone6. The phone choice, for sure, is not going to change. But when it comes to smartwatches, the Gear S3 is a beauty and packed with features. The AppleWatch feels more like a toy or a calculator.
I just hope the Software will improve when it comes to iPhone compatibility.
- The Gear manager must allow for paid apps and watchfaces. We currently only get the free stuff.
- Interactive notifications (think this is a limitation in the iOS API).
- Samsung Pay is missing for iOS (hope it comes to European countries as well).
Like the idea that Tizen is expanding the development possibilities for apps. Soon we will be able to program apps with .net & C#, which is awesome!

Android Wear Companion app registers some broadcast receivers that enable some features like sending sms without using samsung's message app but this only works on android phones not for iphone.

Hello guys,
Using the Samsung Gear S3 with my iPhone 6. Works really good actually!
I got one question though. Do any of you got problems with the S Health App? When I have been out running, with just the watch, the training is recorded then transefered to the S Health App. I can see the correct trainingoccasion but when I try to enter it to see the map the app just freezes. Shorter runes below 1km works, but longer ones just freezes the app...
Anyone else with this problem?
Thanks

Unfortunately, this is a known issue with the Gear App and iOS. It freezes every time you go into s-health map or details. Lots of other issues, like no Strava integration. Hopefully, Samsung is working on this and will post an update to the Gear App soon. Otherwise this the Gear S3 is too finicky to put up with, and there are other non-Applie watches that are MUCH more stable
For the problem in using S Health with the Gear S2/S3 and the iPhone here you find an helpful message.

IPhone 6 and gear s3 (LTE) User. Not quite sure I'm able to establish a remote pairing with my phone. The watch goes into standalone mode and I can make and receive calls and texts with the number exclusive to the watch, however I don't receive notifications from the phone in case I leave it behind at home.
I previously used the first gen Gear S with Samsung note 4 edge and getting a remote connection was no issue and I would still receive notifications from the phone in case I left in behind. I suspect remote connection with iPhone or any non Samsung phone is a problem. Any help would be highly appreciated.

1. The S3 can remotely connect to many Android phones, it doesn't have to be a Samsung phone.
2. While RC is necessary to receive notifications from a phone, services like Digits and Google Voice will allow sharing a phone number and messages even when the watch is in standalone mode.
3. The RC phone doesn't have to be your primary phone.
I have a cheap Android phone permanently docked on my home WiFi, that is dedicated to remotely connecting to my watch. It is never connected via BT to my primary device (an iPad or Samsung tablet). All calls, messages, email, etc come to all my devices simultaneously.
Work-Around for Notifications on S3
FYI for the forum. I found a way to get far more notifications out of the S3 Frontier on iPhone. When I first purchased it (had an Apple Watch), I completely disconnected the Apple Watch from the iPhone, and then connected the new S3 Frontier to it. Worked OK, just not alot of notifications coming through on it. Then I tried something. I unpaired the S3, tehn re-paired the Apple Watch, let it fully sync up, then left it in the charger in the bedroom. I then Re-paired my S3 to the iPhone, and guess what - I get ALL of the same notifications on the S3 that I was getting no the Apple Watch - Text, phone calls, emails, Google maps, everything. APPARENTLY, (this is a guess but as good as I can come up with), the iPhone THINKS it's still talking to the Apple Watch. And No - the Apple watch does not even have to be anywhere near the iPhone. So - If you don't have an Apple Watch, find a friend who does. Disconnect your Gear from your phone, connect it to your friends Apple watch and let it fully pair. Once done, walk away (your friend can re-pair his Apple Watch to his phone after you leave), then when back home, repair your S3 to your iPhone and Viola!
With you not having a problem connecting your S7 to your S2 and and your Apple watch to your iPhone, the problem is probably your iPhone as Bluetooth connection is also reported dropping when iPhone is connected to other products. It’s common, even the new wireless Q-Tips for your ears have been dropping connection.
Thanks,
Nav

Apple does not provide an API for third-party app to access SMS. So no app will have this permission.
Here, check this out.
Me:
When two BT devices capable of telephony functions are connected, the second one connects as "Connected (no phone)", and its telephony function cannot be used.
Example (picture attached). If Huawei Watch is already connected, when Jabra Talk attempts to connect, it will connect as described above, and one cannot make or receive phone calls on Jabra Talk (but still can on the watch.)
Oneplus support:
Thank you for taking the time to send us this email as well as the screenshot that you provided. I understand that you want to use both of the Bluetooth devices for easy access and getting in touch with loved ones for helping us keep on track with our daily activities.
I would like to inform you that the OnePlus 6 can actually connect to two Bluetooth devices. However, by default, you can only choose one for making and receiving calls. Just choose which you preferred to use by toggling the "Phone calls" under each setting of the Bluetooth devices.
This bug was not present in 5.1.5. They introduced it in 5.1.6/7.
This bug is present in all Pixel phones because it's a buggy Google code that Google simply does not care to fix.
Samsung fixed this in their phones.
So, I am guessing OP had this fixed in 5.1.5, but then they just lazily copied and pasted that Google garbage code.
And they don't know how to fix it now. So now it's a freaking feature.
UNBELIEVABLE!
I have the same problem with my Huawei Watch and my cars hands free system
I tried to disconnect the watch with Tasker as soon as my hands free system connects, but it never worked reliable (because the watch connects again immediately and takes over the call functionality)
I guess we need to wait until we get Android Pie because as far as I know this problem is solved with Android Pie

I hope so. But I'm not that hopeful - I think it's a Google bug, and they simply don't care to fix it.
Meanwhile, I have to disable the phone functionality on the Watch so I can use my hands free car kit.
It's so disappointing, especially since this stuff always worked with Samsung phones, OOS 5.1.5 (the bug was introduced in 5.1.6/7) and even the early Pixel, pre Android 7.0.2.

I disabled the phone functionality too
I had a Samsung phone before as well (Note 8) and with that I had no problems with my hands free kit but instead the smartwatch lost the phone functionality after a few hours so I always had to reconnect it (basically the same problem but the other way round)... it's very frustrating that such a pretty basic thing doesn't work properly
I also tried this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.myklos.btautoconnect

I had a Pixel XL for over a year. Only kept it for Project FI. Bug ridden POS.
Sold it for half going price just so I could feel clean again.
Even if Samsung *used* to have sluggish Touchwiz in the past, at least it didn't have deal breaking bugs.
Don't even have to make my own code - some XDA roms had fixed this bug, as opposed to Google.

I am almost positive that if you had a somewhat similar problem on a Note 8, it's probably Google's fault.
I don't really use the 2 BT phone functionality for more than 30 min on average, but I've never had any problems on Note 7, GS6 or GS9, or even on a Pixel pre 7.0.2 android, when this bug was first introduced.
After 7.0.2, bluetooth stuff just broke everywhere. This bug, constant disconnects and reconnects, for some people music skips, for some doesn't even work, BT UI in Settings just crashing etc.
It's like Google replaced their BT programmer with a monkey at that point, or even a monkey's nephew.
So just because you cannot use 2 Bluetooth devices simultaneously to make phone calls, it's a deal breaker??? Lmao please please please go back to Samsung so we don't have to hear the whining anymore. Good luck with those bootloaders
Back a couple of hours, I had a chat and a call with the support Huawei stuff. Among other things about the update process of the Huawei Watch 2 (BT).
What the support staff told me, that there is no way to manually update (trigger an update by the enduser). "The system" of Huawei decides, when a serial number will get the updates. And it can take up to 8 weeks, until all "the system" has enrolled all the updates to the watch. When the watch will be factory resetted, all this will happen again.
In all my experience as a software developer, architect and as a normal enduser, this "process" was completely unknown by me. I would tend to say, that it is the worst user experience ever.
Today, I got the update to Wear OS 1.7 (from 1.6). As of supports statement, there are several updates in the line until Wear OS 2.0.
My question relates to this: What are your experiences (from recent buyers)? How long does it took for you to finally get a working watch?
PS: "working watch"... I also report an issue, that the Bluetooth internet tethering does not work as the watch did not define this scope in the Bluetooth handshake. From the phones view, the watch just cannot do tethering at all. Support staff told me, that is be fixed with Wear OS 2.0. So I will nearly have useless watch for up to 8 weeks until I get the 2.0 update. Yay I am not a couch potato, I do perform activities outside my WiFi network
I didnt quite get what your actual question is but as far as i know if you want internet connection and your watch is bt variant you can either connect through wifi or your phone's internet through bluetooth
And i geuss thats the case with every other smartwatch and OSs
Same issue here
Just got my watch this morning and it's stuck at wear os 1.7. When I search for updates on the watch it tells me there's no updates.
I've also updated all apps in the play store
Could anyone else shed light on this or is it just a matter of time?
Thanks in advance

How long did it took for you until you watch was usable (the 2.0 update)?
Outside WiFi zone, I cannot use my watch because I have to stick with 1.7 for as long as Huawei's system won't give me the update. So no internet over Bluetooth until I finally get the 2.0 update.
I have connection with bluetooth.

You have a Bluetooth internet connection or just a Bluetooth connection?
For example, if you explicitly turn off you watches WiFi, will Google Maps or Google Music (streaming, not downloaded files) work?
What is you Wear OS version?

Now i undrestand your issue.
I will give u a clear answer here
Huawei watch 2 hasnt recieved the wear os 2.0 update yet, and its 1.7 right now
Also from the day one i got this watch (one year ago which was many updates ago) this watch had no problem connecting to internet through bluetooth (as i mentioned in my first post here)
You just need to connect the watch to your phone and then turn on you phone's data connection which then the watch will use it and u will have internet connection (google maps/play store/ system update etc)
And also if u turn on vpn on your phone it will be also effected on the watch.

Thanks for the clear explanation. Do we know when we can expect 2.0?

No we dont, there is another topic regarding this matter titled "Wear os update"
So it seems to me that the Huawei Support ist knowingly lying to potential buyers.
The told me that the 2.0 update was already released and 2.1 is in planning (as announced by Google). And that there are several updates between 1.7 and 2.0 that my watch will pick up (become pushed) within the next 8 weeks.
What I see from your responses is that there were no updates in the past after 1.7..
And Huawei's update server decides, when to roll out (pushes) updates to the watch. Manual searches for updates will always be "already on newest release" because Huawei's update server don't work that way. At least this is what the support told me.
So to sum up... It seems that particular my watch have a Bluetooth issue since it does not announce tethering capabilities with the handshake. That is why, I cannot use my watch. Support stated, that this issue is known and already fixed with 2.0..
I get really angry with Huawei's support. You guys have pointed out so many points, that the support didn't told the truth. I had 3 contacts with different support staff. So this is not the accident of one individual.

Yeah it's sad.
I was hoping wear os was going to be a different story than android and updates would be pretty consistent across watches.
I am now considering going back to my gear s3 frontier tyzen watch until such a time as Google decides to release a watch (if they ever do).
Say what you want from apple but at least they're consistent (I know they only have to cater for their devices) and watch os looks damn good and seems like the better watch experience you can have atm.
i agree, the updates for the watch are like they are for their phones, - non-existent - as usual they make good hardware but it's backed up by poor support and updates from them.
I just wish Google would hurry and release a smartwatch so can swap over.
