Simple, buy a powered USB hub and you can use OTG plus charge at the same time. It must be a "powered" hub, not a normal hub, you may also need to get an adapter to convert regular USB to microUSB if you can't find a hub that connects to microUSB

Do a google search for:
"Powered USB hub for android"
There are many different kinds, there are some cheap ones on eBay. Make sure it is a powered hub, you won't be able to charge if it is a regular USB hub.

This is something like I'm talking about. It has a microUSB male to connect to the device and 3 normal USB female connectors to connect USB and OTG devices then an additional microUSB female to connect your charger.

Desire DC - microUSB - internal resistance

Hi, I'm planning to build my own docking station and need some informations about the HTC Desire micro USB connection and the internal resistance of it!
The USB charger by HTC in Europe has 5V @ 1A max and I have original standard battery.
I've only one microUSB cable now (none to cut) and the connector is to little for my multimeter
Or is there a technical information data sheet for the Desire by HTC?! That would be awesome!!!
Thanks in advance for every hint!
I would definitely go for the official agreed specifications, as microusb is an EU standard agreed among manufactures. It would suggest that the pinout is also standardized and available. Google it.

Hi Stefan,
Thanks for your quick answer, I checked the USB specifications at www.usb.org already and also the pinout. But I don't want to damage the battery. It seems that there are a lot of different chargers for all the microUSB smartphones.
I will build my own charger, so I cannot buy a standard charger for microUSB - That's because there will be some extra features and It's also a project to learn something for university
An E-Mail to HTC is out - hope they give me some technician sugar
If not, I'll buy a cheap micro USB cable, cut it and let my multimeter do the work...

if it helps at all i also use a micro usb cable from a Nokia without any issues so i would assume the pinout is the same and standard.

Thanks coriron! That's good to know
If somebody needs service manuals: http://www.mikechannon.net/page1.html (nearly all HTC devices, but Desire and Nexus One)
If anybody has the servie manual for Desire/Bravo or even N1 pls post it here.
The main problem here is, that i don't know the internal resistance while loading the battery. Maybe i can only check the battery with my multimeter, but I think the battery is not the only thing connected to the microUSB while loading...so there is a risk to damage something...and I don't want to buy a new Desire
edit: and of course I want the maximum loading power - and there are chargers between 4-12,5V/0,2-1A - (I've seen so far)
edit2: Okay, found some infos about the chargers - when plugged into PC there is communication through the 2 data channels (D- and D+) - When loading on charger it can happen that there is no charging (because of missing information through data channels) - so one has to connect D+ and D- with Gnd - like in most third party usb chargers! Then it should work. Maybe that helps someone later...
edit3: If someone is interested - one possibility to build a charger (european symbols!):

Already had this problem a few couple of weeks ago with the car charger i got for the desire. All i did was open the charger up and short the 2 data pins (middle pair) together, not to ground, and it works fine and i now get the full current instead of the usb limit.
why don't you plug a normal usb jack into the htc original charger and measure everything you want to know?
it should be cheap (you must have some unused cables around) and you have enough space to use the mutlimeter.

It works great for me as a Mass USB reader and wireless mouse or keyboard ... BUT ... the way it plugs into the big slot on the bottom of the tablet is not very safe. With the USB stick plugged into it, it sticks out like 4 inches.
I am afraid it is going to break off soon ! I am looking for a cable to do the same thing, but would plug into the mini usb port on the side of the tablet, not the big connector at the bottom. Is there such a cable for this device ?
I have a mini to regular USB for my Kindle Fire but the mini port is different then the one on the Asus.
I know this is a question, but I think it is more of an accessory related item ... so I hope it's in the correct forum :fingers-crossed:
Thanks for any replies !
Ps. I do not have the docking station.
.
Ah,
Bought one of them things too.
Hardly ever used it...I searched for a dongle cable for a couple of days then gave up.
I'll probably blow more money on the $90.00 connect dock if I can find one.
Seems like if we want have a connection options your kind of cornered by Asus.
Maybe the keyboard dock is the way to go

The subject has been brought up previously. With the capability of screen rotation, all you have to do is rotate the tablet 180 degrees so it sits on top.

Good thinking that is one solution.
I'm afraid it put's too much bind on the tablets plug.
Stress and fear of damage are the main reasons I rarely use this.
What mini USB slot? That's a micro HDMI slot, and it's output-only...
"Pad:
1 x 2-in-1 Audio Jack (Headphone / Mic-in)
1 x micro HDMI
1 x Micro SD Card Reader"
The only USB connector in this tablet is in the dock.
Has anyone tried to use the charger cable and a USB gender changer?

A good powered hub is near a must for a device like the NP as there are so many uses for peripherals: hard drives, keyboards, mice, USB keys, Flirc IR controller, usb ethernet, etc. I highly suggest getting a decent powered hub with a lot of ports and a good track record. Monoprice sells a pretty good powered 7 port unit that has great reviews (I have four all over my home) and is relatively cheap:
http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=103&cp_id=10307&cs_id=1030702&p_id=5328&seq=1&format=2
The hub you were looking at above is limited to 3 ports and doesn't come with an a/c adapter. I'd look elsewhere, imho.
So far I have had good results with a bus powered hub. Granted, it's not going to work for a bus powered power hungry accessory, such as an external hard drive. But it powers my wireless dongle for my F710 and a USB flash drive just fine.
I've noticed my Logitech K400 had some pretty bad range issues when the receiver was connected directly to an OTG cable, but when I use a powered hub it's working great. So, it may be worth considering, if you notice any problems with an unpowered setup.
Just want to update. This cord works fine
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B4GGW5Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have this one and it works great. I broke my rightangled one trying to force it to fit with the hdmi plugged in...glad they are not expensive.
I bought my right angled USB OTG before I got the unit and also had some trouble getting it in there. The problem was that the power cord was in the way. I resolve it by simply plugging the USB OTG in first and then inserting the power cord.

30 seconds with a razor blade, and I simply cut away the right angled part all together, and hot glued it into a straight otg

You are lucky because yours bends towards the power cord and not the HDMI cable like mine did...there was no way of having both installed at the same time.

Does anyone have any suggestions. I would like to hook my 6P to a Chord Mojo

Unless you're a premium spotify user, using an expensive DAC for low quality music is not ideal.

Free Level Speaker - Charging your device

Hey all,
Did anyone else receive their free Level wireless speaker yet? Mine came today
And you know what? It's alright! I'll definitely use it whilst firing up the BBQ or doing the washing up.
But, how the hell do you charge another device from it? Using the supplied micro to micro USB cable and the USB micro to USB type C adaptor does nothing. Even using the micro to micro into another device still doesn't work.
Maybe I'm missing something obvious but there's nothing in the manual about it.
Cheers

I got mine yesterday too, and while it's a bit quiet, the fact you can take it to the pool or the shower, is a big plus. If they were £30 I might buy another to connect two haha.
I am not sure though that it's meant to charge other devices, I think those cables might be to charge the speaker?
According to the Samsung website it should
