Undervolted kernel - Xiaomi Mi 4C

Hi! I'm searching for kernel that can reduce overheating problems on a phone, LG G4 & N5X already has such feature as undervolting, but no any kernels for Mi4c that has it.
Thanks for any answer, maybe tutorial how to do that or link on github.

No such thing yet for Mi4C, I'm afraid...I've searched for that too, and found nothing. Kernel was released in may 2016 for this phone and there are good stable roms, but no undervolting yet, just big cores disable/throttle management solutions.

Ok. Now I have that thing as display voltages via sysfs. It wasn't too hard to implement. But it only display that, no any changes if I trying change any values.
Also for geeks. Some screens with Geekbench when phone not throttling frequencies. It was hard (Environment temperature was 2°C, phone was on cooler).
Sorry can't upload screenshot (rules about 10 posts).
So power was 6W (I think 1W for 4xA53 (values from Anandtech), 0.5W for system and yeah 4.5W for only 2xA57). I don't undestand why so many.
Voltage table A53&A57
384mhz: 800 mV 460mhz: 865 mV 600mhz: 865 mV
672mhz: 885 mV 787mhz: 915 mV 864mhz: 945 mV
960mhz: 975 mV 1248mhz: 1070 mV 1440mhz: 1130 mV
384mhz: 890 mV 480mhz: 890 mV 633mhz: 890 mV
768mhz: 910 mV 864mhz: 920 mV 960mhz: 930 mV
1248mhz: 985 mV 1344mhz: 1005 mV 1440mhz: 1020 mV
1536mhz: 1040 mV 1632mhz: 1055 mV 1689mhz: 1070 mV
1824mhz: 1090 mV

I just closed down the cpu core to solve it

Ok, finally I compile that. Results are impressive. So A53 UV up to 0.97V, A57 up to 0.93V(at max frequencies). Geekbench and GFXbench phone pass. No any stutter. At lower voltages receive boot loop. Sorry if someone want to test, I don't have 10 posts yet to include external links. No more needed underclock CPU.
Also now I have another problem, in some games main overheating come from GPU(own power from GPU=4W). I searching how UV it, but w/o luck. If someone can help links or some other stuff.

So, I prefer install in 3 steps
1. Unzip image: /storage/emulated/0/uvv.img (home folder);
2. Reboot to TWRP - Intall - Install image - Select uvv.img - Install to boot.
3. Reboot.
Kernel support all modern features: F2FS, NTFS, EXFAT, different CPU, GPU, IO governors, LiveDisplay, KCAL.
Also minimum CPU frequency 302 MHz.
Frequency/voltage table can displayed by any kernel manager, that support this feature or manually /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/UV_mv_table.

For what roms does it work?

Its compatible with latest CM14.1. About other systems don't know. That needed another kernels as I can see now.

CM14.1 wokrs really good. Its have only one bug: it isn't themes manager at this moment, but interface much smoother than it was in 13.1. All features, that work in 13.1 also work in 14.1.
About Miui, don't know is it possible using custom kernels on Miui.

a request if I may ask: could you possibly compile a kernel for cm13? I'd like to try it, but as long as xposed is no-go for nougat, I won't switch to CM14 (national roaming is a must for me)

Ok. I understand. I'll try to compile it. Link to kernel for your CM 13.1 on github please or CM13.1 compatible with your ROM kernel.

If you don't have time I can do it too, I already compiled this kernel.

patched with UV-OC values up to 1267MHz.
8 Mb Ram Hack
CFQ scheduler
Audio-mod and some minor config changes.
setcpu.txt in package.
You need setcpu + the setcpu.txt for the OC kernels (copy it to the root of your sdcard) and choose "Custom Frequencies" in setcpu.
Please don't use setcpu's active widget (battery drain)
Dropped the auto-detection because of a contrast bug.

The update replaces the stock kernel and put some extra modules in /system/lib/modules. The compiled kernel does include some extra options (ext4,tun,cifs and a different scheduler named "The Brain F*ck Scheduler")

Kernel oc 1.3 and 1.2 for roms 21D Gingerbread

Sorry for my English.
This is a kernel.
KERNEL BASED TO Korea .
I do not include the shift from the terminal using the command unless opperator rom includes it as standard. With this kernel works perfectly Bluetooth and wifi for ROM 21D.
Uploaded on OC to 1.3 and 1.2
GPU 400
Improvements and teaks several.
From time to test a first version, gradually add more options. Governors and modifications.
I can only thank SAMNO BEDWA And for explaining how to activate the baseband. What You Have 3 months with that. They are very large.

It seems that so often goes wrong at your end .. if you have the module opperator in your rom, you can do this to slow down.
Enter the terminal (in the market there are many)

As long as you hold this value alone does not restart your phone .. tomorrow I'll upload another kernel with less speed.

Have a question, i use script manager with a script as root in systems folder and use the above command but doesnt change the clock. I want to try 1350 or higher.
hello
could you test M3D Benchmark v1.15 PowerVR (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1370745&page=16) i want to understand how much GPU OC will affect on performance.
excuse me if my post doesn't relate here.
please feedback in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1370745&page=23
thank you
Amazing kernel. Works perfectly with the acura 21d rom.
Would it be possible to run a script to disable the key backlights on boot? They're pointless since most people have already memorised the layouts of the keys, they're annoyingly bright at night and also only appear when pressed. (No point knowing you pressed the wrong key after pressing it)
This can be done through running the script
echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/keyboard-backlight/brightness
chmod 444 /sys/class/leds/keyboard-backlight/brightness

it basically sets the brightness file to a value of 0

SGY Kernel Patch

from README file :
CpuFreq Patch for Samsung Galaxy Y (S5360)
==========================================
what this patch do
------------------
1. add additional freq to cpufreq 624mhz, make it have 3 freq scaling
(312,624,832 mhz)
2. fix bug while reading
"/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_frequencies"
that bug make cpu spy not working.
Apply patch
-----------
1. copy all patch files outside kernel source dir. dir should be like this
kernel/common/
kernel/modules/
bcm_cpufreq.c.patch
clock-21553.c.patch
device.c.patch
2. goto kernel/common
$cd kernel/common
3. apply patch
$patch -p2 < ../../bcm_cpufreq.c.patch
$patch -p2 < ../../clock-21553.c.patch
$patch -p2 < ../../device.c.patch
4. build kernel
Note
----
this patch work using clock mode betwen 0xC (312mhz) and 0xF (832mhz) in
file "clock-21553.c". 0xD and 0xE working on same frequency 624mhz. don't
know yet whitch one to use (i use 0xE), so please contact me if you have
more information. right now this patch only effectife if you using
performance (or powersave) with app to control it (like setcpu). not
limitation of patch, but bcm21553 governor look like
ignore scaling_{min|max}_freq.
if you capable, please review my patch. scaling_available_frequencies
related is pretty safe. if you only interested to that part, get it from
file "bcm_cpufreq.c.patch" which call "cpufreq_frequency_table_get_attr"
and "cpufreq_frequency_table_put_attr". the other i am not sure yet. i am
still test it about 2-3 days.
i am not experiance creating patch file, so check file before apply and
tell me if i do it wrong. but patch is so small, apply it manually not
going to hurt you
i include test build (boot-sgy.tar). flash it with odin (pda) if you want
to try. it close to stock kernel only with patch and powersave governor
enable. and like usual, i am not responsible if some thing bad (or good)
happen to you device.

additional note :
- this patch for samsung's GT-S5360_GB_Opensource_Update2.zip kernel source
- this thread is about patch, not custom kernel. i include kernel test build only to make easy if someone need test it. so please don't request features like a2sd, cwm, etc.
- this patch is alpha quality. i already testing (>2 days) before submit here. but some of patch work on low level system and maybe effect on long term usage. until it fully tested, use only for testing purpose and remove from your device when done.
- i make small mistake in "apply kernel" part on README file inside archive. i already corrected the one in this thread. sorry.

yes, the boot.img is a ready-made patched image.
try it out with cpu spy.
then try cpu tuner , no-frills cpu app and so forth.
report back if poss.
What Iam saying, if the kernel is Oc to 1Ghz, and uc to 200 Mhz.Do I have to modify for every kernel, And do we open boot.img and put it there.
no. instead of patching a binary, we patch the kernel source code.
with this kernel we should be able to find out, whether clockspeed changes are working.
for that purpose, some PROPER and accurate benchmarking may be performed.

you need apply patch to kernel source and rebuild. that source patch, not binary patch. but you can't make sgy work on 200Mhz or 1Ghz. 312,624,832 is not random number, it's multiple of 26mhz (or 13mhz) which is base frequency of sgy.
so maybe it is not 200.000 MHz precisely, but a multiple of a base frequency
clock frequency can be changed at intervals only
---------- Post added at 05:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:37 AM ----------
cpu tuner seems to be at ease with this kernel, btw

probably not the worst decision, after all ...

i will try it later today, but am still doin some stuff, looking for reference books.
at some point we might also look at this "cpu spy" app. it is open source. maybe we should rack our brains whether that app can be improved on in some way.

So all we have to do is flash boot.img via SGYbiCWM,
BTW the boot.img is a stock kernel of what? Based on what firmware? (what i mean for example is that is it a stock kernel of DDLA1?)
it's in the post#1. very close to stock kernel of that samsung update file.
focus is on setting clockspeed.
which stock rom version used that particular version of published source code, I don't know. build timestamp may tell.

[Governor] boostedASSv2 for your MS2 (20.02.2014: added files for czechop's build)

Disclaimer:
I'm not responsible for any damage of your device that may occur.
Prerequisites:
It's tested with tezet's builds and should also work with stock kernel. If not, please notify me and I will upload other versions.
For czechop's builds I added special files because the build uses a different kernel than tezet's. You do not break something if you install the wrong version, it just won't work.
You need CWM or TWRP of course...
Difference between the zip-files:
...active.zip: ...activates the governor on every boot.
...inactive.zip: ...installs the governor but you must choose it in settings.
You can (de-)activate the governor on boot by installing the corresponding version.
Information for users:
Boot to CWM/TWRP and flash the zip, that's it.
Information for devs:
You can pass parameter to the module. Read 99boostedASS. The values are sorted alphabetically:
Code:
awake_ideal_freq
down_rate_us
max_cpu_load
min_cpu_load
ramp_down_step
ramp_up_step
sample_rate_jiffies
sleep_ideal_freq
sleep_wakeup_freq
up_rate_us
If you want to change values, change them in 99boostedASS. If you want to use standard values of boostedASSv2 just leave the parameters away oder change the ones you want to be standard to negative values.
Credits:
Thanks to BMc08GT for source code of boostedASSv2
Thanks to ->--- for optimized values for the MS2

If this governor really fixes problems with data connections with other governors, that would be great! Looking forward to hearing some positive reactions.

SmartassV2
Any chance you do the same for SmartassV2? Would really appreciate it
Thanks for your work..
Which differences are about these ones? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1655480

These don't work anymore due to 2nd-boot. You'll get bootloops, at least that is what I get and others.
Does it works on Danik's Ms2ginger version?
Thats my favorite rom.

Now i used it one day, and i never had data problems! Before this app my internet was not usable...
So, this app solved my connections problems! Thanks for Woody and the developers!

boostedASSv2 is a modified smartASSv2 so I think it is not worth investigating in smartASSv2. If you can name good arguments for smartASSv2 I might look at it.

Open "Settings/Phone Info". If it shows that you are using kernel 2.6.32.9 it should work. I would recommend an backup though. If it does not work please tell me which kernel you are using and I will upload a version for you.

Great to hear! Besides, it is not an app, it is a governor...

Well since you modified the BoostedAssV2 i was hoping you could tell me :silly:
But I searched about the differences between them and it seems you are right, there aren't any major differences between BoostedAss and SmartAss. Even seems boostedassv2 is more power efficient.
I used these links as reference:

@carpet55
You're welcome!
Here another note using boostedASSv2.
In the last days i got some randomly/variouse FCs without any clue what happens. Now i think i found it.
Before boostedASSv2 and the first days with, i used an "easy" lifewallpaper and sometimes, when the M2 wakes up from deepsleep it behaves strange.
After changing to a static wallpaper this is gone .

Hi! i´m tryng to include the boostedASSv2 in a zip, a tezet´s cm10 nightly, but i´m a little lost. I´ve downloaded the zip file (the "active" one) finding 3 files inside. using the notepad++ found in the 99boostedASS that i should place the files symsearch.ko in /system/lib/modules/ and so the file cpufreq_boostedASS2.ko but there are some values at the end of the line that i dont´t know where and how they should be placed (i think in the cpufreq file , but...) And finaly, the last line, what does it means? Hope anybody can help me, and sorry for my english!
Thank for your work.
Dying to squeeze some more from the M2...

Read the information for devs in my first post. I explained the values there.
99boostedASS must be moved to /system/etc/init.d/.
Read the updater-script for further information on where to put files.
Now also available for czechop builds!
I just added files for czechop's builds. He uses a different kernel, so the old files are not working. It is tested with the most recent build of CM11, notify me if there are any problems.
Can't we use that governor on other devices?
It's not the first time I overclock one of my phones, but I'm stuck here. I'm on CM11 by czechop and flashed boostedASSv2_for_MS2_czechop_active.zip. Installed SetCPU, but can't choose more than 1000 MHz. I installed Aero Control, at least it shows I have boostedASSv2 installed. But can't change the MHz. Also tried Milestone Overclock, works temporarily (I know it says only for Stock ROM) and can see that change in the CM11 developer settings, but after a reboot, all is gone.
I went to the boot menu where I can change CLK 1 to 4. Changed 4 from 1000 to 1300 MHz but phone gets stuck during boot.
I know I'm doing something wrong . How can I get the boostedASS to work / run the phone with 1300 MHz (or less)? Thanks in advance.

Any way to overclock GPU ?

i use Kernel auditor for CPU modifications ...is there any such way for GPU ??
May be cyclox kernel in ROM thread can help if you have not tried. However, i think we can only set to higher values for CPU if kernel supports but GPU can only be set to lower values or the max set but not overclocked.

Yeah... I meant d max set.... Kernel auditor made my phone smooth but still animations r stuttering.... I asked d same thing in cyclox kernel thread.... Waiting for dev response

Hope he respond on that. Anyway GPU is fine for this phone and OC may or may not impact battery as well
Any luck?

Can u suggest me what values to give in the max frequency and min frequency. Nd also stock frequency is 2.1 GHz, which doesn't seem to increase. How to increase that frequency from 2.1 to something higher. Thanks in advance.

If u really want max performance at the expense of battery
Just set CPU governor to perfomance mode....it will be in interactive mode by default....change all the 8 cores to perfomance- no need to play with frequency values.
But this isn't needed at all after latest cyclox kernel update
Here is the process i followed which made my phone buttery smooth maintaining the battery life
1. Flash latest Cyclox kernel (download from attachment or the thread if u can find it)
New GPU governor would be automatically activated which makes the animations smooth
2. i wasn't still satisfied with performance as it was lagging after a day or two if we don't reboot. If u r satisfied- No need to follow next step.
3. Root with Magisk - Flash run time optimization(ART optimization) module in recovery
Clear Cache & Dalvik Cache- Reboot
this worked like magic on my device
4. If u face any issues with ART optimization module...i have attached uninstaller too, if u have any connectivity or crashing issues which is unlikely as we r on same device - just in case - have attached crashfix.zip file(only use if u have problem with main moule)
Kernel & Module thread links - Download appropriate kernel file from thread if u r not on stock
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/development/kernel-cyclox-kernel-honor-6x-t3676919
ART optimization thread link- they're few more advanced settings mentioned in this thread if u want to play with it - Default setting which is set to 'Speed' was sufficient for me.

Thanx to developers for their wonderful work

Thanks a lot for helping me out. I've just rooted my Honor 6x. So was exited about it and trying out new things. I successfully flashed the Dolby Atmos and its working fine.
