[Completed] LG K7 Developer Settings and USB Tethering Problem. - XDA Assist

Alright, so as it says in the title I have a bit of a problem. I'm using an LG K7 and up until recently I haven't had any problems other than space on the phone. But now for some reason I am unable to make any changes to the developer options without them reverting back to only having usb debugging checked. This is a problem as it gets rid of my usb tethering completely, which I use a lot. I have done some digging online and only found one or two pages about this, and they weren't exactly what I was dealing with. They suggested a factory reset, but that would be catastrophic for me as I have a lot of things that can't be backed up. Is there anything I can do to find the source of this problem and get rid of it? Or at least have a work around to permanently disable the dev options and get my tethering back?

[Q] USB Connection Issues

Some time in the last 2 or 3 ROM flashes, my usb port has quit communicating. It will charge the phone, but never so much as gives me the usb connected tone on the pc. have tried numerous pcs that have worked in the past, 3 different cables that all have worked before, reinstalled drivers, tried adb, kies, odin, and mass storage to no avail. I have checked and unchecked debugging. Currently running MIUI, but was on phidelt82's EC10 combo rom before that with the same result. Anything I may be missing? I have run out of ideas, and none of what I am finding by searching seems to be helping.

I went to settings then USB settings and changed my option to ask everytime. Now when I plug phone to usb cable the phone screen comes up to select media or mass, I select mass and the computer sees it.
No dice. Not sure what else to try, can't go back to stock, acts as if my usb port is charge only.

Anyone have a package to get me back close to stock with clockwork (cant use Odin obviously) so I can take the phone in for a replacement?.
This is why you should back up your phone before flashing.
Thanks so much for your kind and helpful words. As it stands, I did back it up in Clockwork, but the phone will not read the backup now. At what point did these forums change from a place of information sharing and learning to a troll haven full of "Noob bashers"?
I had those same problems and I could never get my phone to recognize but I found one computer and xp machine that odin saw and I got it to work but my USB still doesnt work on any other pc (Weird). So just keep trying diff computers maybe it my show up
Thanks for the tip, will see what I can come up with

No one is bashing anybody. Maybe you need to change the way you interpret things. If you'd reread your original post, you'll see you never said you made a backup and couldn't restore it. I was making a legitimate point to make sure in the future you made backups. I had no way of knowing you had.
Point is, my comment was legitimate; I was not bashing you, so don't be so quick to interpret things people say in the most negative connotation as possible.
Sorry, add, I too fell victim to your "hard" tone in many of your replies around the forums. I apologize for being quick to the trigger, as I can see where you are coming from in the piles of questions daily from folks who have never even thought to back up before flashing. As it turns out, I gave it a quick bricking, and a replacement with working usb is on the way. Pretty sure it was a hardware issue, as it was working one minute and gone the next with no changes to the phone.

Nexus S has no service or USB connection

I have a Sprint Nexus S 4G that I've recently rendered without service or USB connection as a result of a fastboot accident. I'm currently running ICS 4.0.3 (Dooderbutt-aosp-v-5 build), but have tried restoring multiple backups on CM7 to no avail. Wiping all user data in CWM doesn't fix it either. I have also tried flashing the LC1 radio zip with no results.
The way I see it, my two best courses of action would either be to try and return to a stock ROM so that I can send the device in under warranty or to continue to try to fix it myself, which has been less than successful so far. Every process I have found online to return to stock seems to end in fastboot oem lock, which won't do anything for me as my phone doesn't show up in fastboot devices, file explorer, or seem to be recognized by my computer in either Ubuntu or Win 7. I've tried connecting on my friends' computers with the same results. I've also tried using another USB cable. No dice.
Sorry if I missed something obvious before posting. I tried to do a lot of research online and have reached the end of what I know what to do. Any suggestions?
Bump.
After some more researching, it appears that there is no way to lock the bootloader except through USB connection with a computer. Does this mean I'm out of luck? Any suggestions as to how to solve this issue? Since my first post, I've flashed ICS 4.0.4 with no improvement on the above symptoms. Also, auto-rotation doesn't seem to work. My Baseband version in About is listed as Unknown. Does anyone have any clue? Replies would be greatly appreciated.
have you updated the android drivers on your computer? you wont be able to connect to fastboot without the drivers. you can get it here http://www.junefabrics.com/android/ do the free download(on your computer) then follow the on screen instructions.

I'm running Ubuntu, so from what I understand, I don't need any drivers. Prior to this fiasco, my computer recognized it as a storage device in the file system as well as a device in fastboot. It doesn't come up as either now.
I had a similar problem after I updated to ICS 4.0.3, what version of Ubuntu do you have, and does the device show up when you run lsusb?
Also, have you checked inside the usb connector to see if one of the pins is bent or damaged?
I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 and no, my Nexus doesn't show up in lsusb or anything else I seem to try. I have checked the pins in the connector of the phone and even bent them around a little bit, but I doubt that's the problem. Since it disappeared immediately after a bad flash, I'm fairly confident this is a software-induced error.
Ok, the only other thing I can think of is a bad kernel or baseband, but since you've tried several different roms, I don't think that's the problem (unless you put on one that's not for your model).
Sorry I can't be more helpful, hope you figure it out!
Thanks for your help anyway. To be clear, each rom has its own kernel and baseband, correct? Are those things I can flash independently of roms like the radio?
Found something, not sure if you've seen it already : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1077168
This bit is especially interesting :
"*If your having problems after the radio flash......go to dialer:
Type in *#*#72786#*#*, put your msl in, and let it re-provision"
For the usb not connecting, I had the same problem. After trying every computer in the house, I grabbed a can of compressed air for electronics and blew out my micro usb port on the phone itself. There was a small piece of lint in there that was causing the connection to not be made. It's worth a try.

I'm attempting to try this work around, but I can't seem to find my msl. I've tried putting in an incorrect code and checking alogcat for it as well as the terminal output of getprop. Neither of these give me the number. Sprint mentions using this code for resetting your phone in this tutorial, but I can't for the life of me find the part of their site that shows the msl.
This is exhausting. I really appreciate all your guys' help though. Thanks so much.
Unfortunately, I never figured out how to solve the problem. I took my phone into Sprint the other day and lucked out on the repair technician. He was messing around trying stuff and had a moment of realization when he booted into Clockworkmod. Even though I had voided my warranty, he still let me replace the phone for the $35 fee. I walked out with a brand new Photon 4G. I'm so happy, it's like Christmas in May!
To others who have this problem: sorry, but I don't know what to tell you! Mine was probably bricked. The MSL number didn't connect the phone and neither did anything else I tried. Best of luck to you.

Kyocera Hydro XTRM- Hard Bricked- Will not boot to recovery!!! Please help!!

Okay so I've been looking for a LONG TIME trying to find a solution to this problem, but have yet to find one, so if this thread is a duplicate issue, please move it to where it needs to be.
I have a Metro PCS Kyocera Hydro XTRM. I rooted the phone and it was fine. I will be the first one to tell you i am a major newbie when it comes to smartphone tweaking. I have been playing with electronics for years, and can pretty much build a desktop computer but newbie when it comes to android devices. So upon suggestion from a dev, I downloaded an app from the play store "BootUnlocker."
As Soon as I rebooted my phone, BAM! It gets stuck on the METRO PCS screen and stays there. I have pretty much tried everything I can think of. I have removed the battery a billion times and tried to hard reset the phone numerous times as well. And now, it won't even turn on but the LED power light on the front flashes when it's plugged in. I was thinking of trying Odin but when I plug the phone into the computer's USB port....it does absolutely nothing...doesn't read a thing.
I am hoping someone will be able to help with this soon as I would really like to know how to go about recovery on a phone that is completely Hard Bricked (as mine is now). If anyone has any suggestions, or has recovered a hard bricked xtrm, I would be so very thankful for your input.
Hi there! I'm afraid XDA doesn't have any information on that device that I can find. So....you can ask in our general Q&A section. I will ask a moderator to move your post there.
This is where it will go....

The only other suggestion I can give is to try searching the web for info on your device.
Hope you get it worked out!
never mind

Connecting to Moborobo

I have a HTC M7 which won't connect to Moborobo. I have two other phones that do. The M7 keeps coming up with a screen that tells me to put it into usb debug mode but it already is. The phone is rooted and unlocked. I thought this maybe the problem so I was going to relock the phone but read that I can clear everything and possibly even brick the phone, hence why I am now running it past the people here. I just want to transfer all my contacts, sms, data, photos etc to my new phone as well as perform backups, and I have found this program to be awsome in doing that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Wayne
Surely someone has thoughts on why I can't communicate with my phone. I don't believe this is an issue with connecting to mobo. I believe it is something to do with the phone being rooted and not having the right setup.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

[Completed] Finding Local Help (PA/NJ/DE/MD)

Greetings,
I've been here before but forgot my logon info, so hi.
I could really use help finding local in-person help. I've tried to trouble shoot and fix the problem myself, but seem to be only tearing my hair out trying all manner of different things. I've got a Samsung Note 4 (SM-N910T) with bootup issues. I've tried to work through all sorts of various potential solutions but really even with all I read, don't know enough about what's wrong, I've tried downloading Odin, Kies, and even got SkipSoft toolkit. This is the second device I've had with similar problems. I haven't been able to fix either one.
I figure someone to whom this is second nature who is very familiar with these sorts of bootup / boot reloader (mmc, pit issues, downloading, etc.) / freezing on the t-mobile screen issues would be very familiar with this stuff and would be able to fix it a LOT quicker than I can.
I'm trying to find someone local who might be able to help fix it either for $ and/or for trades/barters of some kind. I'm in the Philadelphia, PA / South New Jersey Area (Burlington County & Camden County). Most of the stores that do repairs only seem to want to do things like screen repairs, etc. If I can't find someone in South Jersey or Philly, I may be going to Baltimore soon, or Delaware is even possible.
Any suggestions or referrals are appreciated, thanks!

Greetings and welcome to assist. Unfortunately this isn't the sort of thing we do at assist. If you have tried kies emergency firmware recovery and that doesn't work all I can suggest is taking it to your local service centre as it may have hardarw issues
Good Luck

I just figured there's gotta be SOME members of XDA who are experienced and local who might be able to help. Do you have a recommendation on where I can post in order to find such local help?
I've tried different things, but I really don't have an intuitive sense for it, or what the error codes mean. Everything I research has so many responses saying different things, on do it this way if.. and then when I try to research how it behaved, or whatever, there are a bunch of different answers to that.
Where do I find a "local service center" that deals with phones of this vintage AND doesn't just want to do things like replace cracked screens?

You may be able to get someone to assist you through team viewer but we can't really recommend anyone. What is the actual issue if you use kies/odin to return your phone to stock ? If you factory reset and then install stock firmware again and still have issues then it may be hardware problems

It seems like a different problem each time. I just ran it again (Kies 3) and it said.. Notice F "The PC failed to recognise the mobile phone." (The PC seems to be seeing it as MSM8960 which is different than I saw with my other phone that had problems.) For all I know, this could be partly a windows 10 problem (I've had suuuuch issues with installing drivers for old devices under windows 10,) or it could be my cable, or it could be the phone, or it could be a combination of both. And I'm sure user error is somewhere in there, too.

Have you tried switching to smartswitch instead of kies? That may work better in Windows 10. Also make sure to use emergency firmware recovery and put the phone in download mode

Sometimes it boots, gets to the t-mobile screen and freezes (blue pulsing led).
Sometimes I get the green guy with it being ok.
Sometimes I get the green guy with errors.
Sometimes I get Firmware upgrade has encountered an error. (with no errors.)

Also, not sure how to use emergency firmware recovery, when I select that option, it asks me for a recovery code... that I don't have and I'm not sure how to get. Then it says something about another PC?
Maybe that is part of my problem, I'm trying firmware upgrade and install because I do have the model and serial number.
and now I can't get it out of odin mode..
Ahhhhhh!!! I *finally* got someone at my phone company to fix the problem with an exchange! (For the record, one of my phones had a problem ages ago and I couldn't get them to fix it under warranty like they should have.) And the 2nd more recent phone with similar problems is also getting fixed!! I'd still like to find some local talent, but... I no longer _need_ it at this time!! YAY!
Thanks for your time and responses, Sawdoctor! Happy new year!
