I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 4 with only USB3.0 ports running Win7.
I can't get the phone to go into flashmode.
If I use my old laptop with USB 2.0 ports, it works fine.
Do you have all the required drivers installed?
My computer is usb 3.0 only but i dont have this issue
- edit
I do often use "adb reboot bootloader" which i have because of a minimal Adb installer i grabbed off xda
Sent from my E6653 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I believe I have the correct drivers. They come with flashtool. I've also tried install Xperia companion
adb reboot bootloader/recovery works
However I'm trying to get into "flashmode" so I can use flashtool. When I plug in the phone with volume-down pressed, it just boots up normally.
For most ROMs, the first step is to flash the ftf file
Weird
Just to be sure, fastboot mode works when you plug it in?
It may be that your phone thinks its being plugged into a charger or something like so
Sent from my D6503 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Yes if I hold the vol up button and plug in, I can use fast boot.
if I hold the vol down button and plugin it just boots up but if I use my old USB 2.0 computer, it works fine

Hey. My captivate has been working beautifully with these new GB roms until about a week ago when my computer won't even recognize my phone. and all the phone shows that it charging but no notification about USB connection? ive tried different ports and reinstalling drivers all that good stuff and restarting my computer and turning on and off usb debugging and the cable still works with other devices so can anyone help?
Also can you tell me if samsung will replace my phone with a custom ROM on it? im thinking of doing this because i cant flash back to stock without the USB working!
Are you sure the cable is 100% functional? What other devices?
Try plugging it in to another computer as well

I have had that problem on a few gb roms too. Go into USB settings and change them to kies and then plug your phone into the computer using your USB cable. Just leave it plugged in for a few seconds, you don't have to wait for your phone to be detected. After unplugging the cable, restart your computer and phone. Once both are running again, go back into USB setting and change them back to USB storage and then plug your phone back into your computer, making sure you use a USB port directly connected to your motherboard. Works for me everytime.
Edit: If you suspect that your USB cable is not working, see if Odin will detect your phone in download mode. Don't flash anything, just see if it says connected in Odin.

it didnt work if i just go to samsung and give them the phone with the custom rom on it what would they do?
Download kies and see if your computer will detect your phone in kies mode. You could always get an SD card and put all the files on the card then move them to your internal SD. If you have a custom rom installed you can flash stock using cwm. Did you try connecting your phone in download mode to your computer running Odin??? If it doesn't detect it then your USB port is not working or your USB cable is broken. If it is working flash stock and start again. It could be a bad flash.
i have had the same problem a couple days ago, plugged in another captivate into my computer it recognized it. then plugged in my phone and everything was working fine again.
try plugging in anothe android phone running froyo or whatever version you have

The USB drivers for download mode are in the bootloaders and has nothing to do with the USB drivers for the rom. Even if you had a bad flash and the USB portion of the rom was corrupt, your computer would still be able to detect your phone in download mode. See if you can plug your phone into a different computer either at a friends house or at work to see if they can detect your phone with your cable. If not, you will need a new cable.

So what if that didn't work and nothing was wrong with the cable? Would it be my USB port on the phone because the cable wiggles when I put it in.

I have the LG driver installed on the computer. Can someone please help me out?

When trying to install the APX driver are you being sure to remove the phone battery, hold volume up+down together, and then plug the phone into the computer? You have to keep both volume buttons held down until the device is recognized. Then you go into device manager on your computer and right click on the APX device and update the driver software from there. Point the driver installation to the APX folder that was unzipped with the nvflash tool. The computer will find the appropriate driver and install it.

Ahhh, yeah.. Sadly the computer won't recognize it when I hold the volume up+down together and plug it into the computer. Battery is taken out before I attempt it. It's really weird . I was following the directions from the thread down to the T. Thanks a lot for the help!!
Does your computer recognize the phone when you plug it in with the power on? As in can you use usb storage or tethering? If so it should recognize it in apx.

I wonder if you try uninstalling all drivers for the phone (LG drivers and apx drivers) and install them fresh?

It seems I haven't installed the APX driver. I do have the One-Click-G2x-recovery-flasher-06-16.rar, and inside is an APX folder with a bunch of .dll files. Are those what I'm supposed to use?
Alright it seems I was able to install the APX driver, thanks for all the help! It was odd... to put it in APX mode I left the battery in and held the power button plus the volume up and down buttons.. Weird.

Were you using a USB port on your computer or through a hub? You cannot use a hub to flash most phones. Because it worked with your battery it appears that the USB port you used is not supplying the required 5 volts, 500ma it is supposed to supply. Sounds like you were on an unpowered hub and it did not pass through power from the computer as it should.

Virtualbox VM not recognizing phone
I'm using the VirtualBox VM method to flash clockworkmod recovery from this post: [RECOVERY] G2x ClockworkMod flash for Mac. I have completed steps 1-7 and everything seems to be in working order. However, once I pull the battery and hold down the volume up and volume down then plug in the USB. Nothing happens. The phone never turns on nor is recognized by Virtualbox VM. What am I doing wrong?

The phone doesn't turn on. You will hear a beep that the phone tried to connect to the computer. Usually driver installation fails. You then go to the control panel, find the device under USB Devices and then direct Windows to manually install the driver from the APX directory. The screen on the phone doesn't show anything until AFTER a successful flash of the recovery (counter-intuitive but that is how it works). If you are using a VB VM setup, you need to make sure the USB ports are assigned to your virtual machine first.

Download ftf for your model, flash it with Flashtool. You only need drivers to be installed.
Good Luck.

Shouldn't one just need to install PC Companion?
http://support.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
All USB drivers should be included. Since it seems you have it installed already try to uninstall it (and the USB drivers if they still are there), reboot and install PC Companion again.
Otherwise if you have access to a Mac make it simple and do it from there. No bleeding drivers needed.
As Miche1asso said, PC companion should do the work.
Also install falshmod and fastboot drivers from Flashtool/drivers folder, if you're on Windows 8.1 you need to disable driver signature verification (Google that).
Good Luck
Xperia M2 D2303 on K.K. 4.4.4
Don't worry OP. As you said, your phone's pattern is locked so even if you connect it to the pc it won't be recognised.
1. Install pc companion.
2. Search for the repair option. (Google it)
3. Then select your phone model. Go ahead.
4. Official firmware will be downloaded now.
5. Pc companion will then ask you to connect phone in flashmode by switching off phone and then holding volume down button and connecting to usb cable.
6. Leave it for 20 minutes.
7. Previous data will be gone. Enjoy fresh stock rom.
Don't worry about the drivers. When you connect phone in flashmode, your computer will install s1 boot drivers which will do the work.

Flashtools doesn't have drivers for Xperia M2.
Trick to install Xperia M2 drivers.
1. Remove Xperia M2 from devices and printers section. Reboot.
2. Install PC companion.
3. Click how to connect and select usb cable.
4. When PC companion asks to connect phone just connect and leave it.
5. It takes a little time but you can see a window saying installing drivers for Xperia M2.
6. After finishing all of this, you can check in flashtools whether drivers are fully installed or not.
If this helps, use it. ?

Try with this flashtool:
http://www.flashtool.net/index.php
Try connecting it in flashmode to install drivers (connect phone turned off to PC holding volume down button).
just the same problema
ihave do it but nothing .
download the adb driver installer to find my device but nothing no device founded
i try many times connect phone turned off to PC holding volume down button but cant in to flash mode . thnx for your time
i want suitable *.inf for manual driver install for wxp sp3 32bit
Do you have access to another computer? I'd try to see if it works on that. At least you would rule out the option that the phone USB is burned or something. And in case you didn't do it already, I'd try with a third USB cable.
You're making a mistake my friend.
Why am i sure? Because i did the same thing. Drivers will only be installed by pcc as far as i know. Flashtool doesn't have drivers for M2.
Follow my tutorial exactly the way I've given it.
Start fresh. A new pc running windows 7 will do the work.
thnks my friend but...
I have already done in Laptop with windows step by step your tutorial but nothing just same problema.

Technically that doesn't give 100% certainty that the USB is working. if one of the other pins has gone, you can still charge the phone but you may get no communications.

Sorry, not sure how that is supposed help. I mean, it doesn't give out much information.
Still, I know you tried everything, but either you keep doing something wrong or the phone has an HW problem. Did you try to see if Flashtool recognizes the phone while connecting it in flash mode (hold volume down with the phone off while you connect it to the PC via USB)? Maybe you could copy&paste its log after doing it.
device cant on in flash mode

I think it restarted on me as well a couple of times holding Volume down, once. That was because I took too long I believe. Try this:
1. Start Flashtool
2 Switch off the phone. Better if pushing the little bottom in the hole near the SIM card (it's faster and it resets it anyway)
3. Have your USB cable ready
4. Hold Volume Down and immediately plug the USB cable keeping holding Volume Down until the small led color changes
5. See what Flashtool is logging

I can't load bootloader or recovery. no display. when I plug it into the computer is just beeps like the computer detects it but the driver doesn't install.
My bootloader is unlocked.
So what I need is a way to force flash the phone since I cant load fastboot or the twrpp recovery.

now RSDLite detect usb device goto flash and says failed to go into fastboot.

Hello,
I've been trying to charge my phone through the USB cable that came with the device. It works with the charger, but once i plug it into my pc it doesnt work. When I open Sony PC Companion it doesnt recognize a device either. Now when I enable USB debugging, it works for 2 seconds and then it goes back to non functioning. What i mean by it works for 2 seconds is, the device gets recognized by sony pc companion but then gets unrecognized immediately, i get the charging icon for 2 seconds en the device says its connected to the pc via MTP. But then I can't do anything with it. In device manager it has 2 unrecognized devices: ADB interface and MTP.
What is wrong here?
bump
Try another cable if you have one.
Also install the drivers for your phone from this site.
