Android system and Android OS going nuts. - Mate 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Not sure what happened but my android OS and android system eat battery so hard that it burns more than 10% overnight through the phone being in doze. I have 5 minutes of SoT right now and my phone is down to 83% already. Phone has been on for 10 hours still. This doesnt feel normal to me. Is it normal? I remember times when i could lose only 2-3% over an 8 hour night. Now its 10%+.
Before its suggested ive tried turning GPS mobile data 4G and wifi off. It even drains chaotically in airplane mode.
Im on KangVIP Slim B386. Rom works very well but im not sure if this is the source of the problem or not.

Anyone have any insight to this?

Look if you have wifi scanning on,not wifi on.
And check if you have online backup enabled .

By scanning you mean wifi+? And in advanced settings my wifi backup is off.

Location wifi scanning.
And disable wifi+ if you have it enabled.

Those were off. Cant say if it has improved just yet. Wifi+ turned off now. If theres other suggestions id love em!

Can someone help me stop this? Is this normal? 8 hours of phone idle shouldnt it be doing nothing? It has consumed 500 mah already.

[Hidden battery drain] 97% Deep Sleep, 7% / h consumption

Hello everyone.
I've been running stock Lollipop on my Nexus 5 for the past week or so. Fully wiped when flashing the factory image.
I've noticed erratic battery consumption since then, but before Chainfire's latest Supersu, most battery apps didn't work well, so it wasn't easy to be sure of what was going on.
Last night I had this impossible battery drain. As you can see from the screenshots, my phone has been up for 7h 48m, in deep sleep for 7h 36m, with the screen on for 5 min, and awake for 11 minutes.
So how it could have consumed 7% battery per hour baffles me.
Has anyone noticed something like this?
Cheers,
TD

Dunno but you have unknown signal 100%. You get this when your wifi is connected, but your wifi was only connected 14%... So what was happening with your signal for the other 86%?

Tasker turns on my wifi at 8:01 am, which would explain why the wifi was on for 1 h and 4 min (9:05 am - 8:01 am).
I assume that No Data Connection is for 7 hours and 46 min out of 7 hours and 48 min because before 8:01 am I had the phone on 2G and Data Off. Then Tasker re-enabled Data and Wifi, and I suppose that before the phone connected to the Wifi, those couple minutes passed by. After those couple minutes, the phone connected to the wifi, thus stopping to use the Data connection once again.
The No or Unknown signal is also a consequence of this. I get that when I'm using a 2G connection with Data OFF.

It could, but between the stock battery monitor and 3 extra apps (BBS, GSAM and Wakelock Detector) how could it go "unnoticed"?
Noone else has had a similar drain?
Im at about 60% today snce taking my phone off at 7am. Have not done ANYTHING with it though since Im at work. Dont know why this is this low as on KK it would be at around 80.

Why do I have terrible battery life?

I just got my Z5 a few days ago, and the battery life is downright AWFUL. With stamina mode on, my phone drains about 1% every minute or two, just while browsing the web. What is going on here?
Here's a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/uDv2hIs.png
Me too, it's a total letdown. Had 3 hours SOC and around 9-10 hours overall before it conked out on me yesterday

Try airplane mode and see if it improves. This will allow you to use WIFI but halt network search and switching. Check battery stats after a while to see if that helps. Of course, you will get no network dependent communications while in airplane mode so take that into consideration prior to testing. Battery performance will settle down after a few weeks as well but you certainly seem to have a major drain problem and testing will help you locate the cause.

That is truly strange. Any running apps killing it? I just streamed a two hour movie and lost 22%. I read somewhere that the pre-installed AVG was a battery hog. I couldn't tell you because I uninstalled it as soon as I booted for the first time. Are you still running it? That may be the next test.

Have you looked at your Google account settings to see if everything is syncing properly? I have seen this before when someone had an error while trying to sync photos to their Google account, demolished their battery until they went into account settings and unchecked whatever it was that was syncing constantly.
Also make sure you have opted out of Google's location history thing in Google maps where it tells you everywhere you've been on any given day, that can wipe your battery as well. Lastly try turning off the xperia protection that allows you to remotely deactivate the phone, just make sure you don't lose it in the meantime !
I got a Z5 the day it came out and it has done pretty well on battery life, at least until I installed Facebook and Messenger. When I uninstalled the two of them, the battery life returned to pretty good. With Facebook and Messenger the battery was draining extremely quickly. I unlocked the bootloader the day I got the phone and am waiting for TWRP as root will sort a lot of this out.
After 3 Days, i looks like a normale Day use by me around 50% battery. I have allthetime Bluetooth and Wlan on. Whatsapp and Gmail sync. I use my Phone usually for streamming musik over bluetooth around 2h hours, read news and message (Whatsapp) around 2h hours, play some games around 30minutes and some Calls around the same time. My "old" Z1 i had usually to charge ones during the day and of course during the night. So im happy with the battery time @ z5.

Okay, I just turned off automatic Google photos backup, and Google's location history setting was already off. I also turned off my Xperia (the thing that lets me remotely deactivate the phone). Let's see if it works.
Yeah, its still draining fast. In case you're wondering, I keep my screen at half brightness. You can look at the photo I attached.
Update?
Did you ever resolve the issue? I'm getting similar battery life and am not happy about it.
This may be a noob-ish suggestion and one that the phone industry claims isn't necessary anymore, but have you tried "calibrating" the battery by charging it to 100 and completely draining it to the point where the phone won't turn on 2 times and then fully charging it a 3rd time? It may be an old, unnecessary habit, but I've done this every time I get a new battery (or phone) and I usually have really good battery life for the first year - year and a half. The one device I failed to do this on was my Xperia z2 tablet and it suffered for it (i think) although that could just be my prejudice and confirmation bias speaking.
- others suggest NOT to fully drain your phone's battery because you might have troubles turning it on.
Did you by any chance have "Glove Mode" enabled in Settings < Display? It seems that your screen is the culprit. Try disabling "Smart backlight" if you have it enabled and "Tap to wake up".
From the screenshot you posted earlier (History details) we can see that even when the screen is off the wifi is on and the phone isn't actually sleeping. So you got a wakelock on your hands that uses WiFi and doesn't let the phone sleep.
In WiFi settings under advanced (Wifi< Three dots, top right< Advanced) do you have wifi as always on? Change it to "Only when plugged in", also disable "Scanning always available" in the same menu.
Any chance we can get a list of apps you have installed yourself on your phone?

Battery Life Discussion after Marshmallow Update - Doze not working?

How is everyone's battery life after the MM update? Improved, same or worse?
Also, Doze is not working at all for me. I left my phone unplugged over night for 6 hours and lost 30-35% of my battery. That is far worse than it was on Lollipop. I did a factory reset after the update too, as I always do. WiFi scanning is off. I noticed my Android OS usage was really high when I woke up too. See attached image.
No problems for me.
Mine is really good. When idle, I'm only losing about 25 mAh.. I'm also using Greenify non root method.
Sent from my SM-G920V using XDA-Developers mobile app
Mines $hit! Even worse than before. I did a factory reset after update to mm. 5% drain per ~10min
Lost ~2% overnight.
Yeah. I lost 5% since 7AM this morning. That was almost 5 hours ago.
I just posted this on another thread. This may help.
1) Under Wi-Fi advanced settings, change sleep policy to "Charge Only"
2) Go to Locations -> Improve Accuracy. Make sure Wi-Fi scanning is off. This setting was moved here under MM
3) Charge the phone to 100%, let it run to 0. DO NOT CHARGE IT! It must power itself off. Charge it back up.
This had a dramatic result on my battery.
Please stop spreading false information.

1) Wifi sleep policy - Changed that to "While Charging" (big difference noticed after that)
2) Fully charged phone then let it run down to 0 (must let it power itself off)
3) Wifi Scanning has been moved under Location setting. Go to Location -> Improve accuracy, make sure Wi-Fi scanning is off.
Batter life is awesome now.

1: Apps/sync will use mobile data as priority if this is done while waiting to connect to wifi. In turn, using even more battery if an app/sync wakes the phone switching between networks.
2: This is damaging to Li batteries. To extend the life of your battery, it is better to keep it topped above 80% and cool(not very common in real world applications). These aren't Ni batteries, long gone are the days of "memory discharging".
If you don't need notifications at night, use airplane mode. I miss Xposed, Autotasker, and Amplify(formerly Bounce)... Greenify is a good alt atm
Note: Sometimes even Play service updates will introduce bugs and or "retarded" policies that will destroy the battery, especially the "Now" systems. It can happen at the most random times as well and not at all most. Every now and then the fat man will get stuck in the tube.

I'm getting confused. Can someone please tell me what each of the three settings below from the S6 on Marshmallow actually does in terms of radio(s) used and sleep states? The wording of this setting is different in different builds of Android, and I'd like to know what each setting does specifically for the S6 on Marshmallow.
Always (Increases battery consumption)
While charging
Never (Increases data usage)
Here's the Android documentation if that helps.
WIFI_SLEEP_POLICY
The policy for deciding when Wi-Fi should go to sleep (which will in turn switch to using the mobile data as an Internet connection).
WIFI_SLEEP_POLICY_DEFAULT
Value for WIFI_SLEEP_POLICY to use the default Wi-Fi sleep policy, which is to sleep shortly after the turning off according to the STAY_ON_WHILE_PLUGGED_IN setting.
WIFI_SLEEP_POLICY_NEVER
Value for WIFI_SLEEP_POLICY to never go to sleep.
WIFI_SLEEP_POLICY_NEVER_WHILE_PLUGGED
Value for WIFI_SLEEP_POLICY to use the default policy when the device is on battery, and never go to sleep when the device is plugged in.

I'm not using any criticism nor is it an ass thing to say, just fact. The cellular radios uses more battery than wifi and even more when switching networks. A full discharge damages Li batteries. On a clean phone wifi always on WILL save some juice. At night, airplane mode will greatly reduce drain if you don't mind having no connection.
I'm happy it worked for you, however, bad information. Some simple research will tell you that. I see a 1 to 3 percent night drain on a clean phone with wifi always on, no scan, mobile data off. Hell, thats even with google pinging my old address from router on maps timeline.
@RylanM I know it says more consumption, but research and decide for yourself.

How much battery you get?

Yesterday I recharged my H8 phone with my LeEco quick charger upto 97%.
I played games for 3 hours and 28 minutes and battery level came down to 9%.
Is this normal?
I'm running on stock EMUI and it has no root. Just has some 5-6 apps installed from play store like WhatsApp, fb Messenger, XDA....
And yeah I lost ~15% over night. ?
Yep,it's normal. In gaming i get like 3:30h sot and in normal use like 5-6h sot
3:30 while playing is OK, might be better with closing apps in background and using 720p.
During night 15 % is too much. You need either to change protected apps, or close all apps/turn off internet before going to sleep.
For me its 1-2% during night.

First of all, use the supplied charger that came with your device. As the Honor 8 has fast charging capabilities that require the use of the charger that came with the device. While you can use a different charger to charge the Honor 8, it will charge slower than with the supplied charger that came with the device.
Also depending on the game you are playing, the power consumption on your device will vary.

If You have either a weak data/and or wifi signal where you live this will usually cause excessive battery drain even overnight because your phone is constantly searching to keep connected to your network or to your mobile carrier. This is probably not something that a factory reset would solve.
Once again EMUI has built in battery management. YOU CAN CHECK AND IT TELLS YOU WHAT CONSUMED YOUR BATTERY. If it's an app, it'll tell you which app, unless it's hidden as Android System or Android OS, in which case it's something Google related. If you don't have a data connection then the offending app might not be able to do anything, it doesn't necessarily mean you have a weak network signal. Even if it was, it would tell you how much of the battery was spent searching for signals.
bought this phone as a back up for my 7 Plus. I'm loving it, very nice and getting just over 6hrs screen on time. No where near my 7 Plus but still great. Nougat is great too.

I'm impressed to hear that. Then again the Nexus 5X had horrible battery life.
Well I'm thinking of normal use case scenario here. Normally people don't turn on and off stuff everyday and night. Usually WiFi and cellular is always on in every phone. This weird that you put your phone in airplane mode at night to save battery.

Why am I getting such a poor battery life?

Hello xda community
Just bought this phone few days ago(brand new) and I'm experiencing bad battery life(at least for me).
So, I installed those apps: Whatsapp, Snapchat, Instagram, Sofascore, Deezer, Uber and of course GSam Battery. These are apps that i've always used and never had problems with them in a term of battery life.
First major problem is idle. So, what the hell, first night went to sleep with 100%, woke up 7 hours later with 80%, so I went into settings and disabled wifi always on and the other night it was better but still bad, went to sleep with 100 and woke up with 87%...
Second problem is SOT, I've been using phone for messaging mostly, some browsing and taking pictures and that's it, only on WIFI and NO GAMING at all and right now I have freaking 3 hours SOT and only 26% of juice left which is awful for me. I used to have that SOT with Galaxy S6 and that phone is known to have very very VERY bad battery life..Forget to mention: loacation off, data off, bluetooth off
Do you have some advice? What can be so power-thirsty on my device?
I will post screenshots with all my instaled apps and all the battery stats
.
In other terms this phone is a beast even in 2017. Performance is even better that on my dad's S7, camera is really good, I kinda like EMUI but battery is really starting to be a porblem for me so please help me if you can. Thank you very much.

Update after 20 days of usage:
Most awsome thing is idle.. i turn on airplane mode when i go to sleep, wifi is on(but set to never stay active), and after 8 hours of sleepong, literally 0% of juice is used. Amazing. And through the day, when I have data turned on, i check my phone 2 hours later and maybe 1-2% is used :good:
SOT is always different, depends a lot(A LOT) on usage, from 2,5 (data on, bluetooth for headphones, camera, maybe location turned on sometimes etc) to 5 hours (wifi only, bluetooth location and data turned off). I think battery life is okay, what makes it great is that 20-30 minutes is enough to charge a lot of juice with quick charging

Sorry my post is confusing..
So, average 4 hours, but if I tend to use a phone heavily than not more than 2.5-3 hours. When I say heavily than I mean data on all the time, brightness above 60%, some bluetooth connection, lots of social media and browsing the internet.
When I'm at home, wifi on and data off, brightness 30% cca, I can get around 5 hours max.
Is that okay considering your sot?
The first sets of SoTs you posted are unusual. The last seems more on point, but a little low.
I average around 4-6 hours SoT which is average for the device except if you really crack down on all battery consuming apps and services.
4-5 hours for me consists of maybe 2 hours on mob.data and the rest on wifi, location on and a few minutes of gaming/maps/camera.(Brightness on auto, so pretty high most of the time)
If factory reset didn't help, you might want to try to manually update your system either via OTA or through some of the methods found in guides.
Generally I'd say something isn't quite right.
Though you might want to add your model number emui version

This one is a little older but i remember trying to simulate heavy use with this one, mob. data is on when wifi is off, it just doesn't show because of the skin.
I also have one with 6h and 17% left with mostly wifi so that's that
Edit:
Oh hang on, actually this one was the two days and barely used one.
Well you get the picture i guess

So here is my classic day. Awful battery life today..
At least in my opinion.
Unplugged at 10 AM, data on and wifi off, used basic apps like Whatsapp Instagram Chrome.. listening music with blietooth headphones for one hour apx. (Deezer-but offline!). Didn't really use my phone a lot today.
7 PM only 2 hours SOT with 35% juice left.. like I said, barely 2,5 hours of SOT I can get with data on..
I uploaded screenshots of my battery life, my EMUI version and all my apps installed.
Can someone figure out why my battery lofe is so awful..
Can't install betterbatterystats cause I don't wanna root my phone yet.
Thanks for advices.
