I know this is a long shot, but worth a try. I did some digging on Google search and came across no such thing, maybe due to my poor Japanese web searching skills.
I can't seem to find or transfer apps to SD. I transferred my 128gb card from a sim free Z5 Premium to the Xperia XZ DoCoMo version. My files are all present but going into setting and app, I can't see the change storage location option anymore.
Anyone with the Japanese variant who could shed some led?
Thanks.

I think you overlooked my question. I've gone to setting and then apps and the tab to change storage location wasn't present for apps that can be transferred to SD like on my Z5 Premium.
Here's a screenshot to help with visualization.
I'm no beginner to phone rooting either.

I didnt overlook your question, as has been replied above not all apps can be transferred, if it can be then above the clear cache and data buttons there is an option to change storage.
If you r app cannot be transferred speak to the developer of the app

Here's the thing...no apps have the change storage location option available when you go into setting/app and choose a specific app to transfer to SD.
BOX, Instagram, Facebook Lite, Snapseed, Google Translate, an many more. Both phones run Marshmallow and Xperia Z5 these apps were able to be transferred to SD.
This is why I said you overlooked my question as well as the other person who replied.
Again, I've done all the checks and research. This isn't a noob situation we're dealing with.
Some of mine can some can't. Why some are and some are not i so not know.
No one is calling you a noob, sorry i couldn't help you
A little update. After digging around on Google search by typing Japanese model and various Japanese words, the Xperia XZ Japanese model from Docomo, Softbank, and AU has "Apps 2 SD" blocked. The only way is to root, if there is a possible way OR use ADB and convert the SD card into internal memory to have more storage space.
This is for anyone else wondering why...
Happy Holidays everyone.
D01J storage issue solved
Hi, I was having the same issue with dtab D01J but now it's resolved. What i did was to put in sd card and go to 'memory and storage>storage setting>default storage' . Change it to SD Card. System will reboot. Then system will manage space and shift some apps data to sd card. For games, i moved data file in obb folder from tab storage to sd card. Hope this helps!

Well, today I got my new Atrix 2. Great cell phone so far. It's my first Android, yay!
But here is my problem:
1. It came with a 2gb SD Card, working and everything, but when I take pictures they go directly to the SD... Does anybody know how do I change it so they go to the internal memory?
2. Some applications seem to install on both, the internal memory and the SD (like Skype or Whatsapp). Somebody knows why?
3. Does anybody know how to access the internal memory at all when connecting the phone to the PC?
Thanks a lot for your help!
P.S: Please, forgive my noob-ines and Language.

1. Can't...internal storage is for apps only
2. Not too sure that's the case....the way you can tell is go to settings/applications/manage applications and click on the "on sdcard" tab, apps will show up here regardless if they are on the sdcard or not so the way to tell if said app is truly installed on the card is to check for a green checkbox on the right hand side next to said app. The box will be there on all of them, but only the one's that have a green check mark are actually installed on the sdcard.
3. Internal storage is for apps only and is not accessible

i don't think motorola meant it to be that way honestly, since all the specs released specifically say 8gb internal storage, which in the smartphone world means you can use it for storage. however, this isn't the case.
i think that they have their mtd/partition tables setup wrong and it could be fixed with an update. however, no one knows when an update will be coming and what changes it will bring. i think motorola has placed all their focus on the razr. so we get the shaft.

Yeah, that's really bad. It's a very capable cell phone, it shouldn't have as many problems as it has (I read a lot about SD card problems, etc) but you are right, they are focusing more on the Razr (as I read in other websites) which is a bummer...

honestly, it doesn't have that many issues. and i think 1 problem is causing multiple issues.
for example, i think that the partitions are not setup correctly, which is causing:
sd rear/write issues
apps 2 sd issues
sdcard pc mounting issues
internal storage being inaccessible issues
app storage memory low notifications
camera write image to sd issue
these are the major issues, but i think they are all tied to 1 single problem. other issues like the can't stop email sync, i can hear myself in my own earpiece and other non-critical problems are just small bugs that can easily be fixed and lived with until said fix.
most other issues i've read seem to either be account related or just user error

If you read the specs it specifically says
Memory (9)
8gb
The footnote for (9) says
Available user memory varies due to the configuration of the phone, which varies by service provider.
Furthermore
Motorola goes on to say that the device does infact have 8gb internal storage, 4 of it is for downloaded apps, the other 4 is for the OS, Webtop application and the other preloaded apps.
https://motorola-global-portal.cust...71812/~/internal-and-external-memory-(atrix-2)
So if Moto is saying the above, it seems to me they did infact mean for it to be like that. Just trying to clear up the misinfo so you guys aren't raising hell about nothing. But I do understand where you guys are coming from, I completely expected to have 8gb of internal storage as well and I think it's bs for Moto to advertise internal storage space by including the portion of it that's not accessible or useable to us. Agreed 100%.
Hi,
I was wondering how to set the default folder locations of bluetooth incoming traffic and camera pictures to \sdcard\external_sd in SGR.
Is there any utility app which can set these locations to external sd card?
`````
open "camera" app, tap on settings icon, "memory" -> "external" (don't really know how is it on other lang).
here external always defaults to the internal 4 gb rom which is mounted as \sdcard.
I was thinking if there was a way to point this to \sdcard\external_sd
hm... all my photoes are in the \sdcard\external_sd\DCIM folder. 2.3.4 (Russia stock) and 2.3.6 (Austria)
I want an answer to this as well. I am a bit bothered by the 4GB internal SD card as all the games store their data in there and there is no way to move it to the external SD card. 4GB is enough for games but if the camera and video recorder is also bound to it then it is a serious problem with unrooted phones.
In my opinion a phone should have 13GB+ internal SD(16GB phones) or have no internal SD at all.
Comon someone answer please.
As of now I don't know if its possible for the user to decide where to save the downloaded data for the games even in custom ROMS, but you can definitely store the pics & vids directly to the external SD. He are simple the steps.
- Click on the settings icon in the camera app =>Go to Storage & select Memory card.
- Click a pic=>Use any file manager=>go to external sd=>DCIM=>Camera=>Here are your pics.
It'll definitely work.
Hope it helps.
The system stores the pics & vids you click/take in this folder by default . So you can't delete it.
It's not a problem if a folder is merely there but it doesnt go back to being default right?
And the gallery shows pics from the memory card as well?
Well something good was supposed to happen today but it didnt. I might have to settle for nexus S.
But how about bluetooth folder!? how 2 set the folder to external_sd for bluetooth?
I would love to simply stream all my music when I'm driving, but this is quickly eating up my data plan. Therefore, I like to save a lot of albums "On Device" to listen to later. But Google Music All-Access apparently has no way to specify where these files are stored, and they're quickly filling up my internal SD memory.
So, I bought a 64G SD card, but recently found out that it was wasted money as Google All Access has no way of saving the "On Device" files there.
Has anyone found a solution to this? I've found methods that work for Google Play Music PRIOR to the All Access upgrade, but nothing since that point (about a week ago).
I'm surprised there aren't more people complaining about this, but maybe I'm just one of the few that would like to play my music - LOTS of it - without the need to be connected to the Internet.
Any help?
I just dragged and dropped from my computer to external SD card.
I would guess that you can copy and paste the files if you want to do it all on the phone ? I realise that you might have to use a different music app if the one you use now doesn't "see" them, but that shouldn't be too bad ?
I believe this might be because of the file system on my SD card? It's exFAT... could that be the issue?
workaround
If you downgrade your version of play music to 5.1 you get save to SD card support that they removed in 5.2. All you have to do is download activity launcher, or use the built in one from Apex or other launcher of the sort, and exapnd the play music activities and then find the one that has ui.something with sd in in and then choose it and run the activity. It lets you choose device storage or SD and i confirmed it works. I cant take credit i found the fix in this article, kind of.. haha
Im on an S4 unlocked SGH-I337 running ATT jellybean 4.3
Would one of these/something like it work on my Moto G: 1 2 3
If I used a file explorer, could I move apps and music from Moto storage onto flash drive and still be able to play them? Is it convenient and easy to use, 8GB is barley enough for me. Thanks
@Banana4Life ..... Look at the "Meenova" USB OTG unit (there is a thread in Moto G accessory forum but i cannot remember exactly where) you can find it by Googling. It is similar to your 3rd example, that is it can be used in Moto G also as a normal size USB in Laptop or Desktop. I have one and I see it's advantage is that it comes without a fixed memory i.e. you can put any micro sd card that you want in it i.e. 4Gb, 8Gb, 16Gb, 32Gb, 64Gb etc. If I remember correctly it costs $15 plus shipping & handling. It is a Chinese firm but has an office and sales point in California.
I find it most useful for keeping a copy of "sdcard" and backups which in turn can be copied to my Laptop as extra insurance LOL. I also store movies on it and can play them directly onto my phone. One word of warning (which you probably know) do not be tempted to format with NTFS - Moto G wont read it and theres a chance you will soft brick.
It looks pretty nice, much smaller than my examples. Can you play apps off the micro sd card? I would mainly use it for apps and music. Is it easy to access the stuff you put on it as well, do you use ES file explorer?
@bana4Life ..... I can't give you a definite answer to whether you can run apps directly from the Meenova device all I can say on that is that it is quite easy to transfer apps from your phone onto the Meenova, the only trouble I find is that as soon as you select the app it immediately asks if you want to "install" it and this it does on your phone not on the device. I don't know whether using one of the apps which claims to be able to transfer apps to an external sd would be able to help you out but my own limited experience with such apps as "Apps to SD", "Move to SD", "App Manager" etc has not proved very helpful.
As far as music is concerned, same as videos or movies, it is simplicity itself ..... If you run your main app to play music or video then the app automatically searches for the music etc on both your phone storage and the usb storage and plays it fine.
My file manager of choice is "Root Explorer" (from the play store), I'm presuming that you are rooted - if not you can still use "Root Explorer" but you won't have the option to read/write files, only read them and you won't have the ability to see the hidden system files.
The Meenova shows up in your file system as ...../mnt/media_rw/usbdisk. I should have mentioned before that although I am rooted and have custom recovery installed I am running the stock 4.4.3 Rom and if you are running a custom Rom then much of what I have said may not apply.
I don't think I've been a lot of help to you, however good luck with whatever you try. By the way I think my remarks apply to all USB OTG storage devices not just Meenova. Yes I think the Meenova is the smallest such device on the market.
So with the app problem, you can move an app from phone to SD, but to play it you'll have to move it back onto the phone, then after using it move it back onto SD. Is that what you can do? Also, didn't know the main music app would search the SD, thought that you would have to use something like Es File Explorer to play music (which is what I use). I am also on stock 4.4.4
You have actually been helpful, went into detail and gave info :highfive: :highfive: :highfive:
@Banana4Life ..... Just a quick answer ..... When I talked about moving the app to the usb storage I was referring to the .apk ...... but when you click on it it will give you the option to "Install" which it then does on your phone so really you save nothing, the app is still installed on the phone! ..... As far as I'm concerned the only real use of usb storage is to store large amounts of data i.e. mp4 movies which would otherwise take up valuable phone memory. This applies equally to large numbers of music files.
The two apps I use for playing movies are (1) MX Player Pro and (2) Best Video Player. Both are on Play Store. Both will search for compatible video files to play on both the phone and the usb storage.
I'm not a huge music "fan" but I have my playlists which I play using the stock Google "Play Music" app (installed by default by ICS - Jelly Bean - KitKat) it's also on Play Store. This app will also search both the phone and usb storage for music files.
An apk file can be installed with out a connection right? So you can put multiple apk's on SD card, install one then uninstall it to install a different apk
@Banana4Life ..... I think we are beginning to talk about different things here LOL ..... If you download an app from the Play Store then nine times out of ten the .apk file will be downloaded to your phone in the ..../data/app.... folder - the associated "odex" file will probably be downloaded into your phone in the ..../system/app.... folder and any other associated data files will be downloaded to other phone folders ..... Now there maybe apps which will allow these files to be downloaded to your place of choice i.e. usb storage .... BUT I don't know of any apps which will do this.
You use the words ".... on SD card...." please remember the Moto G does not have an external SD card (unless of course you have the Moto E which has an external SD card) so when you use a File Manager and see the folder entitled "sdcard" this refers to the internal memory space NOT to an external card.
Yes you could swap installed apk's back and forth between usb storage and normal phone storage but it just seems to me a lot of work for not very much gain.
You say "....apk's can be installed without a connection" .... Not quite certain what you mean by that..... You don't need your phone connected to a PC by a cable ..... You can have your USB storage (Meenova) connected to your phone ...OR NOT ...... of course your phone will be connected to Play Store by WiFi, but that can't be what you mean
Yea, I am android pleb I get confused
In your 2nd reply you said apps such as App to SD were not very useful but your also said it's easy to transfer apps. By transferring apps you mean by the apk and you tried to use the App to SD to move the whole app not just the installer, but even though using App to SD it still requires you to install it on phone. Is it not possible to move the apk file for every app or do just some work? There are some tutorials saying how to make default download place an SD or how to move an app to SD.
Maybe I don't understand what an apk is? Running an apk will install the app it's for right? Just a installer. And by the connection I mean as in once you have downloaded the apk file, running it won't require a WiFi connection?
And yea you said it comes up as /mnt/media_rw/USB disk in 2nd reply as well
Sorry if this doesnt make sense :/
@Banana4Life ..... I have never found the apps that transfer files i.e. such as "App2SD" any use for my purposes ..... BUT don't let that stop you trying them ..... you might find one that suits you and most of them are free in the Play Store.
Think of an .apk file as being an .exe file on windows ..... i.e. it installs and runs the App (Program) on your phone.
You don't need to have a WiFi connection to run 99% of apps on your phone. The obvious exceptions are online games which require an interaction between you and the Internet ..... Some simulations i.e. Flying - Motor Racing - Boat racing etc ..... Some games which require you to purchase in game upgrades ..... Games where you want to post "high scores" on a web site ..... etc.etc.etc.
I've ordered a black one today, hopefully wont take 20 days like they say it can
Im still not sure about the apps. You said it is quite easy to transfer apps from your phone onto the Meenova. What method did you do to transfer it? With the picture attached, does that option come up once SD card is put in? And just to be sure, once the app is on Meenova to use it I have to install it on phone first, then be able to put it back on Meenova right?
Thanks for recommending it and loads of information - I appreciate it :good::good::good::laugh::highfive: . If apps dont work, music is still important, I'll have to experiment
@bana4Life ..... Hope you are happy with it when it arrives. When I said in post#2 that there was a sales office/warehouse in California I was making the assumption that you were in the US because then they send it by US Postal Service and it takes two days ..... HOWEVER if you are outside US (which I now understand you are) then the postage is by Chinese Postal Service which is first class crap and will probably take nearly 20 days
Whenever I talk about moving files from one location to another (i.e. from phone to usb storage or the reverse) I am always talking about using File Manager "Root Explorer Pro".
When you have usb storage attached it shows up at ------ Settings>Storage>USB On the Go Storage Mounted...... In your screenshot (which I am guessing is using one of the "App2SD" apps) any reference to SD card refers to your internal memory.
It has just occurred to me that I have been assuming all along that you have the standard XT1032 or XT1033 Moto G (with NO external SD slot)..... WHEREAS if you have the Moto G LTE or the Moto E then you do have an external sd card slot.
Anyway I think I have gone as far as I can go with helping you out. I hope that your Meenova arrives quickly and that when you use it you will be happy with what it offers.
Yea I have XT1032. Its was dispatched today . Thanks again! :good: I'll try these App2SD apps, Im sure I'll manage somehow
Well that's what the apks are there for installing. If you download an apk and install it (click on it) the only use of keeping the downloaded apk is if you uninstall the app. You can then install it again.
Apps2sd apps are for phones with sdcard slots. You can partition the sdcard ( fat32 + ext4) and the second partition (ext4) acts as a extension of the /data (where installed app are). There's a lot more to those type of apps but I'm not going into it all. Irrelevant to usb-on-the-go (any storage going thru the micro USB port)
So Im just thinking it will act like an actual sdcard slot, but it wont. So the apk thing will work?...
No it doesn't act like a built-in SDslot. It acts like you've just plugged a memory stick into it.
Yeah copying apks will work it's just a file. Like copying any file. I just don't see what your going to gain from that. Your not going to be able to have more apps installed (ready to run).
The only practical use I've found for meenova is sharing pictures from my camera to my phone.
Hey Guys -
I've got a quick question, please... I recently added a 64gb MicroSD to my tablet, formatted it, and was able to move some apps to it and free up space. The problem is, that I can only move some apps to the SD card. Others have the buttons "Move to Tablet" and "Move to SD Card" bot greyed out.
I know that some developers can set the game to where it can or cannot be moved, but I researched to find out that some of the games which were grayed out support being moved which I cannot. Here are some examples:
- GTA: Vice City
- GTA: San Andreas
- Demon's Score
- ARC: Redux
I thought the issue may be due to KitKat "security" issues with the SD, but it allowed me to move some games and I thought Nvidia bypassed that issue anyways for the Shield in OEM firmware. Since I'm rooted, I went ahead and installed "HandleExternalStorage" via Xposed Installer which supposedly resolves the KitKat issue. After a reboot, though, I still cannot move some apps like the ones listed above.
The only other option I've seen is to use adb to set the system's default install location. Mine's currently set to "0" which is auto, but can easily be change to "1" which would install to SD. This would be last resort since I can see issues arising from this, but it's still an option.
Any thoughts on why this is happening and/or other methods to resolve it?
Thanks!
If you are rooted (which can be done without unlocking the bootloader currently), you can use Foldermount. I use it for a number of apps that cannot be moved the standard way. It is on the Play store. The only downside is if you want to link more than 3 things you'll have to get the Pro license (which is worth it in my opinion).
Yes, I'm rooted. I downloaded the app and am trying it out now. So basically, all it does is create a symlink or directory junction? I tried it out with one app which had an 800mb data folder and 1.2gb obb folder in which I had it auto create folders and move the data for each. Upon running it, it tried to extract the data and failed. Think it was either because I'd had issue with that app already plus probably shouldn't have moved bot folders.
I just tried it a second time with ARC Redux. I moved the obb folder which was 600mb. The data folder was empty. After it moved (checked progress via notification window), I launched it. Upon launch, it tried to download the app's data file again.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks!
The most common issue people run into with it is, while they setup the link they don't enable it. After the items is done moving things click on the little push pin icon. When that icon is green the symlink (at least I'm pretty sure that is what it is using) will be enabled/created or whatever it does. It is probably safe to enable the Symlink before it is done copying, but I normally wait just to make sure.
I can confirm that FolderMount works! I was even able to do it with Trine 2! Tested with Portal and Half-Life 2 and only noticed slightly longer load times.
using FolderMount
It depends on what you mean by "idiots guide". lol
Basically, your games can be saved in a few different locations on your device. But for the sake of brevity, I'll try my best!
∙The easiest way is to open the app then open the left side menu (either by swiping from the left of your screen or tapping in the top left corner.
∙Choose "Apps Analyzer" and let it do it's thing.
∙When it's done you should be presented with a list of your apps, sorted from largest to smallest (or already moved)
∙Click the app you want to move and you should see a screen showing you what data is stored where.
∙Then click 'Create pair' on the right side (Either for obb or data. I usually just pick the largest of the two and move that. Tho you can also move both)
∙Then you should be asked if you want to allow the FM to do things automatically. (If you don't know what you're doing just click yes)
∙Adjust the name if needed
∙Click the check-mark in the top right and wait
∙Assuming everything went well, then the last thing you'll need to do is tap the thumbtack on the 'List of pairs' screen to activate it
∙Now you should be good to go!
I realise this is a couple of weeks old by now but I just got my Shield Tab a couple of days ago, have installed a few games and now the storage is nearly full - there's a few >1GB games which I can't move using the built in a2sd.
So I rooted it and installed FolderMount, but a lot of things just show up as 0B in the apps analyser and I don't have the option to move them.
Any idea what's going on here?
Well after native Apps2SD, Link2SD is the way to go. Dunno if that helps =P. I'd use Foldermount or the equivalent after all else.
Installed Link2SD. Seems to pick up the internal storage mounted as an SD card, and doesn't pick up the actual SD card. It says "You can link the app in order to move its files to your SD card", but I can't seem to find anywhere to do that.
Update: some apps for which the option to move to SD is disabled normally (I'm looking at you, GTA:VC) can be moved if I use an adb shell to set the install location to the SD card - but it also showed up in FolderMount.
Some games, however (I'm looking at you, Humble Bundle versions of Horn, Anomaly 2 and The Cave, at least) still can't be moved (I try, it works for a while and then says "couldn't move app", and they show up in FolderMount as 0B (without the option for it to link anything), and I can't seem to find where they're stored in the file system to move and symlink them manually.
So can anyone help me move these things? I was hoping not to have half of my available storage taken up by three games (which is why I got a nice big SD card when I bought this). Thanks
Linking
There should be a linking option. You have to first repartition your card and add a second partition to do this, preferrably EXT4. There are tons of great utilities out there, but I usually use MiniTool Partition Wizard on Windows. Put your microSD in your computer's card reader, and in MiniTool, all you gotta do is make the existing partition smaller and make a new EXT4 partition in the free space. I'd say maybe 5GB or so would be enough, but it depends on you and what you link.
Linking is different from Apps2SD. You can actually do both to save more space.
Thanks! Turns out things work when I follow instructions. I used a GParted live USB and created an ext4 partition on my SD card, 16gb (it's a 64gb card, so I've got plenty of space... I can resize it later if need be).
