Small issue after blocking ota updates using titanium backup - Note Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed the latest firmware with ODIN (N915TUVS2DPG2_N915TTMB2DPG2_TMB.zip). Rooted and working well. Began getting a firmware update message to install the same firmware. Asked to install now or later. Actually tried to install it and it just failed and went back to normal. A couple days later it would pop up again.
Using titanium, I froze the following:
Security policy updates 4.1.46
Software update 1.5.04
Software update 3.1.12
I then wiped my cache only in TWRP. I no longer get the firmware download message, however I get one minor notification that shows up when I go to the phones "settings". Notification says "Software updates. Tap here to update the firmware to the latest version and use the latest features." If you tap it, it does nothing. I can close it but it will show up again. It also shows up under "About" in the device settings. It doesn't seem to be affecting anything so far. Just a minor annoyance. Not clear why it is happening at all.
I am on the T-mobile version of firmware. Anyone else experiencing this? Thank you.

Could be because Samsung likes rat ware.
The security could be getting used to aid in O/S updates.
Given that you've frozen them and they could be tied together .............

I am also experiencing this. Have you found a solution? I know it's an old thread, but it's very annoying. TIA

I have noticed that things "frozen" by Ti backup still can have an effect.
Example I run Nova Launcher and lock down Samsung's launcher.
I then start having weird problems including restarts.
Since I'm rooted, I back up the system and remove the Samsung launcher.
Much better.

[Q] Lollipop OTA downloaded, install failed, now it says I'm up to date?

Hello,
So I finally got the notification to download OTA Lollipop today, which I did. Problem is, when I went to install it, the phone restarted, an ERROR screen popped up. I restarted the phone, the update wasn't installed and now when I "Check for Updates" it says I'm up to date.
How can I install the update without side-loading it?

I had the exact same issue but it sounds like a good thing it didn't update from all the issues everyone keeps posting all over the net. Is your device rooted? OTA only works on completely stock devices I read somwhere.
I too ran into this problem. But before i returned my phone to stock i converted it to kali linux. At first i thought it was an encryption issue, so i restored my phone. I still received the error message.
To install kali linux i had to unlock the boot loader, then flash the software. I returned to stock by wiping, flashing stock, then locking the boot loader.
With Xposed not supporting 5.0 I am thinking of stating 4.4.4
I want to stay at 4.4.4. Can't get rid of the Update nag -- and I've tried everything.

I found my problem. My gps.conf file was edited by Faster GPS. I forgot to revert before the OTA and thus my error occurred. I hope this helps.
I'm still getting the same issue after supposed install:
I've had the OTA notification for a while but it won't install. It downloads and then when it does the reboot I see it trying to update then I get the 'Red Triangle'. It reboots again back to 4.4.4
Phone was rooted but still using the stock ROM so I did a factory restore, I'm still getting the same issue.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

How to stop lollipop from installing automatically?

I have just noticed my G3 is taking the ota without asking for my approval. How can I stop it from doing it again? Thanks in advance.
Secret Menu
I went to the dialer keypad and typed in 3845#*850#, the 850 is my model number. Change it to your model # and secret menu will appear. Tap on WLAN settings and it will show OTA updates and pick disable. That's it. Worked for me.
Did that but the phone will still try to install. The reason I know is because my phone will be boot looping in twrp. At first I thought I did something crazy until this morning I saw a message saying phone will install update and will reboot in 10 seconds. Good thing is that I have the boot loop fix zip file in my sdcard.
I kept having this happen to me as well, even after disabling the option in the secret menu. I ended up installing the 855 minus 5 ROM.
I actually had that happen as well. My whole system was gone and stuck in twrp. I downloaded the copy of the 10f stock file and the zip fix file. Thought everything was good, then the update popped up again in the notifation bar, so I made a backup in twrp and tried disabling notifications. The next morning it started to auto install and it failed. Stuck in twrp again, ran my backup then disabled notifications again. Haven't seen the update again in the notifications. Hopefully it won't come back.
Using TiBu, I disabled/froze com.leg.lgfota.permission and Software Update and I have not had any issues.

So I tried Titanium Backup. Couldn't figure out how to do it. I also noticed I couldn't send or receive MMS pics. Did some searching and on Google Play, there is an app called Disable Service. Download the app, open it, click on system at the top, scroll down to Google Play Services and click on it. Scroll down to SystemUpdateService and uncheck the box. I also went down to software update and unchecked all 3 of those boxes. Restart your phone and you're done. I also re enabled the setting in the secret menu. Now my pics come through again and the update disappeared when I restarted the phone.
Can the OTA be undone?

This may be a dumb question but I had something similar happen and I'm desperately looking for a way to reverse things. My D850 was rooted, still stock but tweaked to PERFECTION, and I was under the false impression that the OTA checked for root and wouldn't proceed, so when I got the notification that the update was available I dismissed it and didn't think about it. Next morning I woke up to find the OTA happened without any action from me and of course I lost root. The phone is now really sluggish with numerous nuisances and I hate it. AT&T really f'd up my perfect G3. I chose not to factory reset or clear the cache as some have suggested to improve performance. I guess I was hoping that with everything still installed there might be some hope to regain root.
I'm reading about people going back back and flashing zip files but I don't get how it's being done. I did not have a custom recovery installed but I did have a backup with Titanium, although I obviously can't get into that now without root. The really odd thing is that Softcard still thinks it's rooted and won't run. Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks,
...Joe K.

I'm afraid you wont be able to go back to rooted kitkat without having to clean install as there is no root for Lollipop yet.

Hey aybarrap just curious if the TiBu freezing has held up. Took your advice and did the same. Just curious if you've had any issues so I can be on the lookout.

I have NOT received a single nag or download for OTA. I have had these frozen for over two months without seeing any issues in the phone's operations. In fact I waited 10 days after the 10f was released before installing and had no issues.

Having issues blocking the OTA "software update" under settings

I just bought a GS7 today and successfully root it following this guide - https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...-to-notes-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039
Everything worked great without a hitch. I had a slight issue with the OTA downloading when I was on wifi until I got Titanium backup installed and was able to freeze "Software Update 1.5.33", which stopped the download. However, I still have a notification in 'settings' under 'about device', where "manually update" used to be, but its not there anymore since I disabled/froze it, however still "ghosting" with a tick count of 1, believing its still there.
I was hoping NotifyClean would do the trick, but it finds nothing. I'm at a lose. I've attached a couple pics showing what the issue is.
ps - This was the only topic via search I could find regarding this - https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/help/small-issue-blocking-ota-updates-using-t3505860
try unfreezing the software update, reboot into recovery and then wipe cache. reboot the phone and then accept the update (it will fail cause you wiped the cache), then re-freeze the software updater

Camera doesn't load

Hi everybody,
I'm back with a new problem in my Honor 8 (FRD-L04)... I was one of the user who installed the faulty version 15.0 of the Magisk update, so as you can imagine my phone went into bootloop and had to go all over from a backup I did the past September. I was running the firmware version B385, and because I lost many important things for no backing up lately, I decided I would just update to the firmware version B389. My phone was rooted, so I had to flash a stock recovery and do a full package download for the update. Everything went smooth and the update worked well. I had to do a full wipe because after the update the bootloader locked and I unlocked it to root the phone once again. This happened 2 days ago, and today I tried to use the camera and this is were everything started going down. The camera simply doesn't load, if I clear the data and cache of the app and reopen the app, it shows the initial screen where you need to swipe it to start using the camera but after that it goes in some kind of opening closing loop, until finally it closes. When I try to open it again, it stays in a black screen until it closes. I have restarted the phone and cleared the dalvik/cache in TWRP but the problem persists. I don't know if this is important, but after starting the camera app and failing launching it, the flashlight stops working too. If i restart the phone, and start the flashlight it works well. I have been thinking in reinstalling the camera app, but I can't find the apk for it.
Hope somebody can help me with this small issue, so thanks in advanced

Thanks for replying Rommco05... You mean to downgrade to the B385 update? or rollback to B381?
I have found the update.zip file for the B389 upgrade here http://gsmtube.com/android-tips-tri...89-android-7-0-nougat-update-europe-9747.html but the links appear to be broken..
Rommco05, can you help me how to downgrade? I'm a noob at this and your help would be greatly appreciated! thanks

Resetting s7

Will factory resetting my phone remove all updates, and leave me with only the newest update as an option? I rooted to prevent the last update, since I use foxfi.

No it will remove all user data and apps installed after first start. Any pre-installed apps will maintain their updated version.
If you don't want nothing updating turn off auto update apps in play store and then on the phone if you don't want firmware updates, no need to root to prevent updates
I rooted because of the daily reminders to update. Then froze appropriate apps. I think there were three of them.
I did not realize there was a way to turn off the reminders directly, only postpone them.

Everything can be silenced in Android..... everything... (evil laugh)
OK. So that was not true. As soon as i reset my phone it began updating the system. There is no option anywhere to disable the update. I tried using BK Disabler like last time, but that app no longer is available, and its replacement only works with root. I have turned on airplane mode to stop the update, but it is at 97%. Is there an app that works like BK Disabler did, that will allow me to freeze the System update apps.
Please help. I'm hanging in limbo currently.
Not quite sure on your specifics but - I'm in the process of checking the differences between marshmallow and nougat on a snapdragon verizon s7. Downloading the nougat 7.0 update, then factory resetting showed a "installing software update" string on the bootloader (both FR'ing from bootloader and within android) , but when I booted all the way up it might as well have been stock 6.0.1.
Are you at a different point in the update or on a diff kernel?
