What should i buy - General Questions and Answers

Hello all
i want to buy one of these two
Xperia Z5
Huawei P9
some told me the first is better performer but got alot of problems
and the second is a very good phone
i'm in deep love with Sony
but i'm afraid sony was too bad last couple years
so what should i buy and why ?

so any help ?

I know there are a ton of phones out on the market at the moment.
I have a similar thread.
Maybe would help if you know what you are looking at doing with the phone.
That would be your largest determination.
Do you plan on modding?
Are you looking for the better camera?
I can try to help you with what I can.

The one I have been watching is the Honor 8.
It has great image quality ( one of its selling points). And battery is pretty good.
Also depends if you want removable storage or battery.
Seems about half the phones on the market do not have removable battery or storage.
Also are you looking for a large screen size or something that will fit in your hand nicely.
Reason I mention the Honor is because that is what I may end up getting and its currently 100$ off on huawei website.

is it better than P9 ?

From what I have read, they are identicle except that the Honor 8 has a different body style , and 1 GB more of ram in some cases.
Other then that they have the same camera, processor, screen size, battery etc.

[Q] Changing from Note 4...

Hello everyone! I'm thinking of getting rid of my Note 4 and getting an Xperia Z3. Don't get me wrong, the Note 4 is a great device, but for the money, the amount of lag and terrible low-light and indoor pictures and pretty bad battery life is just too much for me.
The most important things for me are:
Battery life
Performance (multitasking)
Camera
All the blogs said the Note 4 was the device for me, but over the last 3 roms I haven't been able to fix ANY of these issues.
How's the Z3? Are you guys generally speaking happy with it? Has anyone played with the Note 4 and could maybe shine some light on their opinion and experiences? Thanks!

Battery life is awesome. I have 6+ hours of display on time on one charge. Without any battery savings ie (stamina, ultra stamina, low battery mode) which you can turn on.
Lag, well I never had lag on this phone, 3gb of ram does really good job.
About camera. Well this is more personal opinion. Some will tell you it's bed, someone will tell you it's good.
Truth is that people perception pictures difrently and also have different preference so it should be best to go to center, take Z3 and check your self.
For me, camera is good. I always use superior auto mode which does really good job. Panorama photo should be better.

That's all good to know! I remember I had the z2 which gave me generally very top performance. But I had hardware issues with 5 of them. So I just gave up on it.
The note 4 has 3gb of ram which is great. But the note has some serious issues with memory management. For example, sometimes while actively multitasking by switching through apps, all of a sudden it will clear out all of my apps! All of them! When 3 seconds before they were all open and just fine!
There is a huge lag when opening a picture I had just taken. Or even trying to press the share button. It's a very well documented case which Samsung hasn't fixed. [emoji35] and battery drain with little to no usage. No rogue apps either. Strange cases for such a premium device.
My partner has the Z Ultra. If it weren't for the camera I would have picked up one for myself. He's very content with it, even after a year. I've had the note 4 for a few months and I'm going crazy! Haha.
Thanks for your input. ?

Z3 dosent have this problems, all apps are handled in RAM. even after few hours i pick multi task and go to some app and its still open.
All animation and task go really fluently. I have no words for this.
And z3 is better because its not heavily customized like note4 is.

The spen doesn't worry me too much. It is useful though. But I'd rather have a fluid UI. I guess for the moment I'm going to have to sit tight and see how the note 4 develops. If it doesn't I'll just get the next best thing.
Thank a bunch for your help. ?

Take in my mind that Sony Lollipop Firmware have serious problems with Ram Managment, killing a lot of apps in background very agressively, so you have to stay in kitkat to avoid this problem.
Also, if it is for the camera, the Z3 doesn´t have a good camera, all said, in my opinion it is one of the worst cameras that I ever tried in a Smartphone, the pics are so blurry, without details and overcompressed.
Apart of that, the Xperia Z3 is a very good phone in battery, desing and UI.

Thanks... I guess the grass is always greener, right?
I have had both a Note 3 and a Note 4 in the last 18 months. Both are fantastic devices in theory, however I found in practice they both had shortcomings. The Note 3 was a Friday afternoon job which I ended up fixing myself on 4 separate occasions (2 x usb ports, 1 x antenna, 1 x sd card slot issue) before selling it and getting my copper z3 on an upgrade. The Note 4 was a trial purchase I kept for all of two weeks - thinking with the ram, 32gb storage and huge processor performance would be future proof for a good couple of years at least. After the metal band became scratched to hell after being kept in a case for two weeks (dust scratches? Really?!?!) and I got really frustrated with the lags in the ui with Lollipop and the relatively poor battery performance (compared with the z3 at least....) I sold it asap and went back to the z3. Long story short it is a much smoother, more complete android experiance - at least on kitkat, I've downgraded from Lollipop for the same reasons - easily as quick in everyday life and much easier to root and customise if that's your bag. Oh and it isn't an insurance job if it slips out of you hand into the toilet/sink/sea!
Just my 2p's worth if it helps

Mediapad X2 vs P8 Max

Hey Mediapad owners,
I'm an owner of a Silver P8 Max and i was wondering which one was better.
Obviously the P8 Max has the better processor. but besides that i believe everything else is basically the same.
I kinda feel like i should trade down for the bigger screen and the battery, also i feel like the Mediapad is maybe closer to having a possible stock androidish rom created if it does ever happen.
Just let me know how you guys feel about you X2
Thanks

Hi
I was considering purchasing the P8 Max but when I considered the differences between them, I decided to opt for the X2 as I wanted the largest possible screen. I am delighted with my choice and would not consider switching to the P8 Max now.

According to some websites the P8 Max has Band 12 LTE support and will work on T-Mobile which is a plus. The P8 Max is less wide due to the 16:9 aspect ratio of the screen vs. the 16:10 aspect ratio on the X2. I was thinking of getting a P8 Max as well but the battery isn't as large as the X2's. The X2 having the wider screen is better for web browsing in landscape mode but most videos have black bars at the top and bottom of the screen due to the 16:10 aspect ratio. The P8 Max also has gorilla glass 3 and the X2 does not.
For my part the deciding factor was the wider screen and the battery in favor of Mediapad X2.,both of this factors were fully justified.

Lets me say a few simple words: Battery life!
Gorilla glass is all good and well but anybody with a brain does not keep there phone in a easy to damage location.
Even basic glass is plenty strong. A large part of Gorilla glass is advertisement, making people feel good.
And yes, 16:10 means you may have a black bar with movies. Solution: Have your player play with 16:9 mode and you lose a few percentage on the sides. You will not notice if you do not deliberately pay attention to it.
On the other hand, you have more screen area for websites, comics and just about anything else.
Put the phone in 280DPI mode and suddenly you have a full blown tab browser and everything in desktop rendering ( and still perfectly readable )
Even coming from a Sony Z Ultra with 6.4" 1080p 320DPI, its a massive difference that this 7" 1200p 280DPI makes.
O ... and all that will allowing you to spend DAYS without looking at a power charger.
And frankly, i am sure the battery life can be even more improved if the 4G an be switched to 2G when your screen is off ( lets face it, 4G is useless when your phone is waiting for mail messages/text messages etc ).
I think I'm going to buy a media pad x2 from honormi.com and sell my p8 max

Yea... See this guide that i wrote last week: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-x2/general/mini-guide-adb-installation-usage-t3183906
Works like a charm. The same i can not say about the EUI that shows some bugs if you do not run the standard 400 resolution.
400 dpi seems to be working best, the others including 280 dpi, are not working well, eg: a folder icon is looking huge comparing to the other icons.

That is because the default launcher from Huawei is set to 400 dpi. Use a alternative launcher and some of those problems go away. Unfortunately a lot is hard coded in Huawei there EUI software / settings.
The difference is best noticed in real applications that are not set to a fixed dpi.
The most important difference between them is the price

As usual with Huawei, you have different models under the same name, designed to various geogrpahic area:
Huawei P8max series:
P8max DAV-701L (4G LTE: 2100/1800MHz, source huawei th)
P8max DAV-702L (4G LTE: B1 / B3 / B7, source huawei jp)
P8max DAV-703L
P8max DAV-713L
but I have a lot of trouble to find some huawei sources for the LTE bands of each models, as third party web sites are usually wrong about that (when they precise the model number, wich is quite rare!!)
Hi! I am interested in buying a P8MAX. You've given me something to think about... I have never bought a phone not straight from Verizon so I am completely clueless about where to purchase an X2 for use in the USA. I am not a developer by any stretch of the imagination. I will use it as is out of the box. I realize that I will have to switch cell providers but don't know which one would best support either the P8max or the X2. Anyone have good experience with one they can recommend? I did message with someone in Virginia (same state that I am in) with a P8MAX who said that he uses Cricket with good results except that he gets 4G and not 4G LTE... any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

You will only get 3G on T-mobile and AT&T with the X2. I think the same with the P8 Max (unless it has band 12 which you will get LTE on T-Mobile anywhere they upgraded to band 12. The X2 is cheaper so it's a better deal.
Noone is mentioning that the P8max comes in max 64GB ROM but X2 is only 32GB ROM. I just had an issue with not having enough ROM memory on my 16GB Note2 and had to delete some apps! I don't root or modify my phone in any way - don't know how! So how important is that extra 32GB in the P8max?

Totally non-important because you can simply buy a 64GB SD card for 25 euro, giving you 96GB of data space on the X2. Or you can buy a 128GB card... Had 16GB+64GB SD on my ZU, still had 6GB left on my ZU's internal flash with two years of programs installed. The 32GB flash on the X2 made me lazy because i did not even remove the navigation maps to the SD card. *lol*
By the way: ROM stands for Read Only Memory.
Hi! Thanks for explaining ROM to me. Shows how little I know! But I have a 64GB sdcard in my Note2 (largest allowed, I believe) but my 16 GB internal phone memory (?) Got used up by (really, not too many) apps! All my files, pictures, etc. Are on the 64GB card! I really was shocked when I got the message!
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
I have had issues with not enough memory on 16GB devices but never on 32GB devices. I use the internal ROM for Apps and an SD card for data such as photos. 64GB is overkill if you have an SD card as well.
One saving grace for the P8max is that it has OIS for the camera. This would show up in the quality of photos taken on it vs others with no OIS.

MediaPad X2 vs LeTV Max

Hello there!
I'm looking into buying a new phone and those 2 phones in the title called my attention. I'm coming from a Z Ultra so both of them look great to me.
The LeTV Max seems like the better alternative, but let's run down the specs of both of them (mediapad x2 on the left and letv max on the right)
CPU:
Kirin 930 (4x 2GHz and 4x 1.5GHz) x Snapdragon 810 (4x 2GHz and 4x 1.5GHz)
RAM:
3GB x 4GB
Screen size:
7" x 6,33"
Screen resolution:
1200x1920 x 1440x2560
Back Camera:
13MP x 21MP
Battery:
5000 mAh x 3400 mAh
As expected, the LeTV Max wins most of the categories but do they make that much of a difference? Would the +1GB of RAM be a good addition? The screen resolution bump is also pretty interesting, since the MediaPad x2 is going at a 323 ppi and the LeTV Max is at 464. The monster battery on the MediaPad x2 also gets me happy, and knowing that it's not pushing out as many pixels as the LeTV Max (despise the screen size difference) makes it look like it will last longer. Coming from a Z Ultra, the only thing that I really NEED on a camera is flash (the Z Ultra's camera is ok at best) but I don't really require that much quality since I rarely use it.
What do you guys think? For the people that already got a MediaPad x2, are you happy with it? Would you change to a LeTV Max if you had the chance?
Screen size is everything so I would go for the X2.
Plus you have support from XDA for the X2.
I am actually considering upgrading to an 8.0 inch MediaPad M2!
If you only look at the basic specs, the LeTV Max "looks" better. More memory, higher resolution screen, slightly faster CPU, faster GPU, compacter...
But there is also where it ends. The 810 is a know throttle monster that easily hits its thermal limits ( what most manufactures solve by limiting the SOC ). Its also not exactly friendly on the battery. My X2 even after hours of playing Fallout Shelter ( what is a know battery eater ), was just "warm". Not hot, just warm. I doubt that the same can be said about the 810 in the LeTV.
1440x2560? I do not care... On the X2 7" 1080p, you need to have 21/20 eyesight to see the pixels or have the phone right in front of your eyes. What people forget it, that the higher resolution = less space for light to pass = more / higher back light is needed = more power usage. And my eyesight is 20/20.
4GB Ram ... everybody love more ram. But lets be realistic... on my Sony ZU, i always had a health 500+ MB ( 0.5GB ) free in regards to ram ( comparing Android 5 on both systems ). And that was with a device that had two years worth of programs active. On my X2, i have between 1.7GB and 1.8GB free. So assuming the same program load like the ZU, there will be close to 1.5GB ( X2 had 1GB more ram then the ZU ) still free. That means on the LeTV, your looking at 2.5GB memory free with the same load. Nice ...
Camera ... If you come from a ZU, anything is a massive upgrade *lol*...
And now we come to the real reason to own the X2: 5000 mAh x 3400 mAh ...
Its not just 50% more battery power. The ZU also had a 3050mAh battery. Yet, my own battery results are more then impressive. So far the X2 is hitting 2 a 3 times the battery life consistently against then ( 2 year old ) ZU.
Technology has improved... While the X2 has a bigger screen, it seems to be more power efficient. The SOC is designed around those power efficient cores from bottom to top. Its a monster, not just pure on battery but in regards to battery life.
My best proof are some of the basic usage test i did before.
Screen on ( ZU: 45%, X2: 50% ( brighter then ZU to compensate the battery somewhat )), no activity.
ZU: Lost about 11% in 75 minutes.
X2: Lost about 4% in 75 minutes.

And i forgot that i still had the GPS on for the X2. *oeps*. And the GPS like most receivers/transmitters are more battery eaters.
Real life battery:
On 25/08 at 21.30 i charged up the battery to 100%.
We are 28/08 around 22.30 and my battery is ... 68%.
In that time i spend around 20 minutes calling ( 2 * 10 min ), checking wechat, some quick surfing on 4G, doing some basic battery testing ( one day with 4G+Wifi, one day with 2G+Wifi, one day with 2G. And Wifi on at night ) and a bunch of other thing. For this same amount of time, my ZU will hit 15% on the battery left, with only 4G on during the day and Wifi at night.
Its a battery life monster! And thanks to some testing, i found that the best combination is:
Set 2G when your at work and only need to check wechat or other chat messages. 4G drains twice as much. Enable 4G only when you need to surf. For basic text chatting 2G is the same effect as 4G, you do not notice the difference ...
Wifi/basic phone active drains about 3 a 4% in about 12 hours at night/morning.
2G/basic phone active / some times chatting during the day ( at work ), drains about 3 a 4% ( depends on the intensity that you chat/check/etc ) in +- 9 hours.
So with this combination, found that i can survive 24 hours, using maybe 6 a 8%, 10% in extreme for basic thing that i did before with my ZU, that took out maybe 30 a 40% ( yes, its not accurate because the ZU was using 4G all the time during the day ).
But to get back to the basic comparison:
The LeTV has a maybe more powerful CPU, GPU, more memory and higher resolution smaller screen combined with a smaller batter. Do the math? You know that your battery life at best will be "average". If you can live with that, then the LeTV is for you. But if you are like me, fed up with average battery life, then the X2 is way more up your alley.
Frankly, i do not know of any device that offers this size, battery life and still has phone capability... Beyond the X1 but that is running older A9 Cpu cores. The X2 beats the ZU with 25% in Antutu and frankly, i notice no slowdowns or other problems. And regarding faster GPU's. Sorry, but what do you care about the GPU? Those 3d games kill any device its battery, for what? If you want to really game, there are PC's, Console etc, where you can more enjoy the 3D experience. I found devices like this better with games that are more designed for the platform ( hard to explain ).
O and here is other a counter argument:
PRICE! X2 for 3GB/32GB = 399 Euro. The LeTV Max cheapest i found is 620 euro's... And i was lucky and was able to buy my X2 in a auction at 341 euro
I long time learned that specs alone do not make a good device, its the combination of those specs. I am frankly fed up with phone's that has a zillion "look how fast or how big resolution or " ... but they forget to mention that those things in general eat battery life and force people to spend every two or one! day recharging there phone. And the more you recharge, the more your battery capacity goes down. Fun these days with non-replaceable batteries.
Speaking of non-replaceable batteries. How is the LeTV its battery replacement? Also non-removable like most devices these days. I ask because the ZU its a disaster... you need to heatgun the glass to remove the glue, and then deal with a annoying flat cable. The X2 its just popping off some plastic, a few screws and you can simply unplug the power connector. The X2 battery replacement anybody can do.

That's exactly what I had in mind. When I was buying the Z Ultra I was able to test and research it better since it was from a known brand. But for the X2 I'm having trouble coming across more specific informations. What you said is what I'm looking for.
The LeTV seems like a pain to repair and it's design looks boring. The specs were buying me but it's pretty much what you said, it's the combination of everything ( and the x2 looks pretty as hell). The only down side for me would be not having a water proof phone like the Ultra but it's something I can get over since it's not a priority for me.
I'll still wait for IFA to see if anything else comes up but the X2 is a strong participant in my choice ( and it's one of the few choices I can actually buy where I live). Thanks for the tips!

If I were going for that, I would just go with one of those cheap 6" phablets with 720p screens, haha. The M2 is pretty overkill for me ( really pretty but still). I can still fit my Ultra on my pockets nicely so the X2 should be good, as far as size goes.

I looked at the LeTv when searching for large phablets. It's smaller screen size and puny battery turned me off. All these spec wars mean nothing. 1080p vs 2k in a small screen means nothing. 3gb vs 4gb in an Android phone mean nothing if I don't see a performance boost. The X2 is without a doubt the best all around large phone/tablet out there right now. Huawei is a more well known brand especially now that they are making the next Nexus phone.

Yea, it's what I thought but when you get almost no reviews and comments about a phone, the specs are the only thing I can use for a guide on this. Huawei is a known brand, just not like Sony. The Z ultra had tons of reviews and feedback when it came out, but I could only find 1 review and many unboxings/ hands on. Thanks for the help!

Water proof is one of those oversold features. Do you use your smartphone in the shower? Do you use your smartphone while swimming ( by the way, Sony does not advice trying out the water proof in anything but clean water because chloor or salt = bad )? Its more of a annoy always opening up that usb cover. In all my life i never lost a phone because of water damage. If it rains, you do not use the phone. Simple as that. Or you use it under a umbrella. A bit of rain on the screen of the X2 or any non-water proof phone, will not destroy it. Its all pressed together. I found the water proof more of a excuse so they do not need to install a removable battery. And having it replaced by the manufacture ... awwwwww... Same reason why i sold my ZU: It will cost more to replace the battery by Sony ( and you STILL lose your water proof protection because even Sony can not guarantee that when they re-glue it, it will be water proof! ).
The X2 feel nice in the hand. I was planning on buying a case but i like the heavy metal feel instead of that glass feel that ZU had. It feels more robust. You do not feel like it will break and you need a protector. Disadvantage is that the metal is also slippery. Frankly, i like to get some plastic protector for the back of the X2, that is "grippy". The funny part being is, the X2 feels more premium with the metal, then the ZU.
I now just use the default protection plastic that was on it ( put it back ) and it gives more grip. But its not clean ( full of explanation text *lol* )
For the rest ... if you come from the ZU, its a bit of adjustment. The X2 is only 1cm thicker on the side, but it gives a massive visual difference. The X2 looks BIG, compared to the ZU. Yet, its only 1 cm difference. Its that optical illusion effect from long & slender.
Worst part is probably the default launcher and DPI. Its set to 400 default and that is crazy. 280 is perfect for this device but it gives some problems with the default software from Huawei ( they still try to render some things in 400 dpi ). But nothing beats having Chrome in 280dpi, with tabs and full desktop rendering and still perfectly readable
O yea, and one thing i miss from my ZU, is that the X2 by default does not turn off its Wifi when you leave the house ( the ZU has a option for that ). You can do it ( there are 3th party programs ) that do it, but you need to root it ( takes a while to get the unlock code from Huawei ).

You can simply look up the X1 for basic reviews. The X2 is just a upgraded X1 with a better SOC ( CPU/GPU/Memory/Flash ). The basic design & internally is almost identical. There are also a few Russian etc reviews ( google translate ) that go fairly in dept. The biggest complaint in every review ... size. Just like with the ZU. Its a "acquired" taste.
Anyway, its your money but the LE Max, i removed that from the list months ago, because of the almost identical battery size like the ZU. For phone's of this size, its not acceptable that they have batteries inside of only 3000/3400mAh.

The man is absolutely correct. It WAS cool to be able to answer my Z Ultra in the shower when someone called but opening up the rubber to charge it was a PITA. The Z Ultra was my least favorite phone I've ever owned. Nothing was good about it except for the screen size and waterproofing. (It was super thin but had a puny battery which negated the fact that it was so thin) I'm am so glad when it completely crapped out three weeks after I got it that I was able to return it to the seller for a refund and buy the X2.
Thanks for all the in-depth info, folks... I especially appreciated the information about how batteries are replaced. I have never bought a phone without a replaceable battery. I keep my phones for a long time (compared to as long as you probably do). I still have my Note 2 (in pristine condition - actually even with the first iSmooth screen protector I ever installed still in pristine condition). The only problem I ever had with my Note 2 is that just recently I had to buy a new battery because the old one had degraded to about 3/4 power... I have been researching both the X2 and the P8MAX and dying to buy either but, not being the pros that you are, I have been extremely hesitant to take the plunge because I was worried about repairs once the battery started degrading. So where would you bring the X2 for repairs here in the USA? Seriously, I don't have half the knowledge or experience that you have. I have been avidly reading every forum and website I can find regarding the X2 and the P8MAX to learn a little bit here and there. Thanks so much for your time to try to teach people like me!

Honor 8 - worth buying?

OnePlus 3T / Honor 8 / Axon 7 - which is better?
I want strong battery and good camera.
Honor 8 have better camera than OP3T? good pictures on low light conditions?
what about development community?
1. The best phone is the one that suits your needs or most of them
2.There is no perfect phone hat you gain somewhere you lose elsewhere
3.There are a gazillion of reviews on youtube about the phones you want to check
4. The development for honor 8 is as you can see on roms, kernels section
I would choose between Honor 8 and OnePlus 3T. To be honest i wanted the OP3T very very much but i finished buying the H8.
If you want good 3D performance for gaming, decent camera and aluminium build go for OP3T.
If you want a fcking beautifull design,a very fast phone in daily use, decent camera but you dont play to much graphics intensive games go for H8.
I cant make a difference between this 2,both are amazing smarthones but let's say something more.
H8 is not a phone to throw,i think even a little drop would crack some glass and it's very very slippery. A case and a tempered glass is recommended. But we didnt forgot the OP3T ? Why i didnt get it ? Come one,on the site it's says "Delivered whithin 9 days"... I think they wanted to say 9 months but let's forget that. The other problem is that a lot of people are saying that is better to dont get a device with snappdragon 821 because drains battery faster. After all it's an amazing phone, but the kirin 950 runs faster than snap 821 in real test. The battery it's fine too,i get every time like 5-6h SoT and i'm ok with that. But i have only one problem with, the zoom, dont even think to take a photo or a video with zoom. I hope you understand what i tryed to say and i hope this will help you 👍
Btw,this phone worth buying.
Just go with the 3T if you want development and good camera
one plus has best support and community
But H8 have better camera than OP3T, No?
no customs roms for H8 and stock isnt very good..
OP3T get 8-9h SOT sometimes...
I dont know which is better to me.
I dont playing heavy games.

If you can pay and wait months for the phone go get the OP3T.
I can't say which camera is better, you can look on youtube reviews.

Just go on their facebook page and see how lots of people are complaining about the delivery time. Some bought the phone in the first day of launch and they are still waiting for it.
This was a difficult choice for me as well. I had OnePlus in the past, one of the thing that annoyed me most them were various bugs in their firmware, although I can't comment how they are doing now with OxygenOS.
To me OnePlus 3T is overall a better device for consumption. Bigger AMOLED screen and very fast performance with lots of rams for both apps and games. Also lots of custom roms support.
In term of camera I think it depends on what you use it for. The 3T will clearly be better for video recording since it has 4K recording and OIS. Although it's 16MP front camera seems to be a downgrade compared the 8MP on the original 3, because of much smaller pixel size letting in less lights.
To me the Honor 8 is better for still shots because of the larger pixel size and the dual camera which really help with dynamics. The Honor 8 can decent photos late in the day and gets really sharp with macroshots.
I think you only pick the Honor 8 if you want specific things from it. Like the smaller size, microSD support and the good camera for photos, those were more important factors to me than performance. On the software size, Huawei have lots to improve, but Nougat version is coming out in Feb.

I like the Honor design and because it I want to buy this phone...
I dont know!!!
In my opinion the Honor 8 is an excellent phone. As said before there is always a trade off with any phones you'll ever consider. After having my Honor 8 for the past 2 months or so here are my impressions of it so far.
The camera on the Honor 8 is excellent for still photos and does fairly well in low light shots because of the monochrome sensor.
One concern I've seen many reviewers commenting on was the fact that the Honor 8 has a 1080p display. Even though it isn't 1440p the display is crisp and shows no pixelation. The screen on default color settings has a bit of a blue hue to it but that can easily be changed in the settings to a warmer more seemingly accurate color profile.
The Kirin processor is an excellent CPU, very efficient and performs well. The GPU will suffice for I'd probably 99% of the games available for Android. It also comes with a nice 4GB of RAM and I haven't had many issues with it needing to reload recently opened apps.
Although Huawei skinned Android with their EMUI it really isn't the worst UI I've seen on a phone. Though, if you do get the Honor 8 then I highly recommend updating to the Nougat beta. Now, one of the most impressive aspects of this phone however is the fingerprint scanner. It's one of the quickest and most accurate I've ever used. I don't think any phone that has a fingerprint scanner can compete with the Honor 8's.
My previous phone was a Galaxy S7 and one thing I have to say is that my S7 much like most Samsung phones in the past have so many gimmicky features that I find useless. Unlike the S7 though the Honor 8 in this aspect has a wide variety of actually useful features. One of those features is the Smart key which is a button apart of the fingerprint scanner. You can set it to open apps, turn on flashlight, camera, etc.
Overall, much like the vast majority of people who have bought the Honor 8 I'm extremely satisfied with the phone.
Honor 8 is cheaper too, you can get one for less than $300.

There is a way to upgrade to latest beta without any boot unlocking/rooting/wiping your data/etc.
Haven't encountered any issues on the beta and it's even more fluid, functional and beautiful than EMUI 4.1.

I have some questions regarding Honor 8

I am buying a new phone and need some help. I see that Honor 8 is great for a INR 18,000 ($280). Main problem is the device is an year old but honor 8 pro is quite costly. So please tell me:
1. Is is still worth it? Else tell me any better phone in this range.
2. Why the development is so slow, I see half the roms are unofficial also tell me the best rom for Battery and Cam.
3. Any possibility of O?
4. What about battery life after N update?
Thank you
1. I'm still very pleased with my phone nearly one year after buying it.
2. Stock ROM, it's great for battery life. Gives you 5-6 hours SoT on Nougat.
3. Android O? I have no idea.
4. Battery life is great after Nougat update. I'm using version B389. No problems either.
Sorry for the short answers, I hope you can use them.

1.yes, it worth at 18k
2.also the best ROM's are RROS,Carbon(best my favourite),Los and more, use the one plus ported camera it was soo good, you can find in the themes section.
2(i) camera is too good in stock the bokeh effects will amaze you.
3.Many devs said the O will definitely live in honor 8.
4.Battery life is too good after update , i am getting 5-7 hr battery live on my FRD-L02C675B330 (indian version )
or if you don't have patience in updates , better to go for another option ,but after price drop this is the best .
The price drop is the main point I am considering it but few people are complaining about battery life in 7.0. I currently have RN3 and it easily gives me 5-6 hrs SOT and manages to give good battery even on lte for whole day.
I read somewhere that official roms are not there because of some problem? What is that?
1.Yes.
2.Development is slow because it's hard to make a full stable rom for Kirin. Anyway,i use LN OS and everything smooth,no lag,no f/c,battery is decent (5h sot),no overheating.
3.I think we will get Android O,i just think.
4.I get like 4-5h sot on B389 (FRD-L09). Some guys get more, like 6-7h sot but depends on carier network too, why? A good signal saves your battery.
5****** I would get this phone over S7 Edge and S8 even if it got all that hate, why? I tested both, S7 Edge and S8, i made even a little speed test between all 3, H8 wins. Not only in terms of performance, but the S8 feels like a stupid toy in my had. H8>S7 Edge>S8

I just bought myself a 64gb honor 8 couple of days ago currently waiting for it to arrive at my doorstep. I have considered op3, axon 7, g5 plus and the p9 since they all fall almost in the same price bracket.
The reason? Based on reviews I can conclude that the honor 8 provides the best overall performance and features within this $300-400 range. And the size and design itself is great for one handed use. I really like the camera on the s7, really quick to capture moving objects, but it's just too expensive. maybe I'll get it once the price has fallen below $400.
