[TWRP] Unofficial custom recovery for MT6580-based clones. - Miscellaneous Android Development

DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible if your device gets messed up royally, explodes or causes you to go nuts because you couldn't get this thing to work. I'm no expert coder either, but I am willing to fix things as much as I can.
I actually did this as there's practically no support whatsoever for that counterfeit phone of mine (yeah I know, you get what you pay for, but I bought this Galaxy S7 clone mostly for science). None of the existing porting tools work for the MT6580, and while manually porting an existing TWRP image to my phone works, it simply isn't cutting it as most of these recoveries are designed for a conventional framebuffer setup, not on devices with flipped LCDs. Fortunately there's this source tree for the Infinix Hot 2 TWRP port, and as the partition setup seems to be largely the same apart from differing capacities and the aforementioned LCD issue, this had to be done.
This should theoretically work on HDC S7 clones and a few others albeit with a few modifications, though I ported this from source with the Z6U030/GXQ6580 in mind. I know the latter isn't as widely known as the HDC model, let alone the original, but oh well...

The recovery should work best on this ROM, but may also work on other devices provided you replaced the kernel with the one that came with your device:

My biggest props to the TeamWin team for making this little project of mine possible, as they're basically the ones who made this in the first place; I merely forked it to account for my device's configuration anyway. I'd also like to thank my pals over at American Girl Adult Collectors especially Amy and Molly, Arnee Libelo and Arturo of Driving Passion, and my buds Andy Vandjick and HardcoreHacker for the fun and expertise they shared.

How to install twrp

Here are the /lib and /usr files that you requested.

hi. did USB Storage is working on yours? I tried to port another version of this recovery(Jemmeni's port) and seems to work fine except for error in mounting USB Storage. I need to work on that.

Yup, everything works apart from the lack of USB-OTG.

maybe i'll try your copy. maybe it work. and also, after screen time out, the screen was turned on again. how to fix that? i removed otg from mount points. that is the only solution if your kernel didn't support otg

Not sure what to do with the screen issue tbh; I just wanted a recovery for this rather obscure knockoff I use. Feel free to post your fork when you're done with it, aight?

i cant download the file at dev-host and it prompts as dangerous website warning instead. please upload to another file hosting site or attach here instead.

If your device has a similar partition scheme, just change the kernel and a few other settings, and it should work.

i just test it on a g930f with a mt-6580 processor and it doesn't work

need twrp scatter file

Try extracting the stock recovery off your phone, then open it using Carliv's IMG Kitchen. Then see if you could add the mount points from your phone to the recovery I compiled. Beware though, the recovery I made is for a flipped LCD so I am not sure if it will work without removing the flipped LCD flag and recompiling TWRP from source.

I don't have access to a build environment atm, so I am not sure if I could do a TWRP source port for you. :/

How Does It Work ?
This app is a simple bridge between Device And Server . It uses JSON (JavaScript Object Notation ) Parsing to parse data from server and compare it with data on the device . That is what makes it simple and fast . Then after downloading the recovery image , it gives you 2 choices either to flash image directly or store it so you can flash it later using the app . Some features will be added to the app like managing backups , flashing roms , wiping data ......
Feature's :
Download Recovery
Install Directly After Download Or Install It Later

Q & A
Q : I opened the app and it gave me a dialog saying That device is not supported
A : For some devices you need to install recovery manually as they might defer in boot loaders ....
Q : I installed recovery but my installed recovery version is still the same !
A : The app parses your last recovery log , so you need to reboot to recovery so the change's can take effect .

Great, simple and useful= perfect
I just finished installing this on my N5 and N7 2013. It worked perfectly. I was running TWRP 2.6.0 on both devices and the app recognized that and told me there was an updated version available. I ticked install, it downloaded the new version, I ticked install now, it then gave me the option to reboot to recovery so I ticked yes and it rebooted to TWRP now showing 2.6.3. This worked perfectly on both devices. Thanks for the great work it is truly appreciated.

On many other sites there are many people who are looking for custom roms for UMI MAX, and not everyone writes about it. When it comes to UMI MAX it only saves it custom rom, the phone is jammed, does not work many functions, the battery has 4000mAh and can not withstand 1 day.I do not know how much time takes porting roms, but I would be very grateful if you did it.

I took the original boot.img file from the official UMI MAX Android 6 rom and changed it to that which was in Eragorn 4.8 rom for UMI SUPER by silent27.
To install this rom your phone must work on Android 6.

Just received this device and also want root.
I read on website umigidi :
You can root this phone with Magisk Manager using the boot.img file available in the ROM packages. Use the boot.img from the same ROM version that you've installed on your phone.
Root and custom recoveries are never officially supported.

I have it. I requested it through twrp_builder. Got it a few hours later. Made from the 20180601 umidigi rom.
I have it installed, through their app. Flashing through sp_flash works too.

TWRP works but even formatting data partition, it encrypts data after the reboot. I think a modded boot.img is needed with encryption disabled.
Really thanks, too.

How did you install the TWRP?
when I do, it doesn't stay permanent, I can only access the TWRP at the first boot of the phone, and the root flashing seems correct but it doesn't apply, when I reboot the terminal is not rooted and the TWRP is no longer there available, it has return to the original bootloader.

Status update
I have been able to flash both 8.1 and 9.0 gsi's they boot up but there are various issues with both which I'll list later. I have also gotten a basic device tree up and have successfully made a source built rom for this phone.
Android 9.0 AOSP GSI issues:
Systemui restarts a lot
No telephony whatsoever
No camera
Android 8.1 AOSP GSI issues:
Mobile data doesn't work (Calling/Texting work) and telephony is sensitive to changes and has a high chance of dying fully
No camera
Source built Lineage 15.1 rom issues:
No telephony whatsoever
No camera

I have also taken the base twrp that was provided by twrpbuilders and extended it to almost full functionality, everything except mtp is working (mtp is a bug with twrp itself on newer linux kernels), the twrpbuilder twrp didn't have working adb, sdcard, otg.

I don't understand why you would need to be on android 10 for a recovery when the recovery is based off TWRP that works on android 9 and 10? I don't get it.

I'm not going to lie SHRP 2.3 is awesome on my S7. You have magisk manager options inside recovery, themes look nice and new, you have the camera api 2, fingerprint clear options, it really has just about everything. I still think it would be great to allow internet and a web browser I dont know how that would be possible but I could see it. I hope there is a working permissive kernel for android 10 soon.
The best recovery I have ever seen so far !!!
EDIT
Just one request if possible...in file manager there is no function to select multiple files, so if it is possible to add check boxes for multiple selection.
Anyone else unable to mount system with the YouTube vanced installer? I get an error 1.

Well I hate to do this to someone but maybe try TWRP 3.4 that the other developer just made. It's only because the system problems with TWRP 3.3.1 based and Android 10 I'm telling you to try 3.4. So sorry devs know it's kinda crappy to say something in your thread but I believe it's only fair because android 10 doesn't play well with TWRP at the moment. Hopefully the next update by Dee's Troy will be the finally fix to the super partition or dynamic partition as they call it.

In all honesty I would bet the devs of this recovery are actually using 3.4 if they already knew about it or if they just found out from me they will switch for now. The nasty part of development is a lot of developers don't use their own updates so that's how you have someone put out a new kernel or ROM thinking it works and everyone says no it's a bootloop. Because they are using some other devs kernel or something that works better and they didn't feel like switching because the ROM, kernel, and TWRP that work the best will be the most popular threads basically.

This looks to be a YT Vanced issue, I suspect the Magisk module has not been updated.
For anyone hitting this error, just install Vanced youtube with SAI, easy as pie!

Yeah that's fine that's how I do it. However it doesn't change the fact that right now on Android 10 you should be on TWRP 3.4 as it correct some of the errors in android 10. Hopefully in a week or 2 they will finish TWRP to work 100 percent with the new super partition and a/b setup. I actually looked up super partitions and actually it make sense because it would allow you to make use of all the space on internal because things can take up what they need to and not extra. Don't get me wrong this recovery updated to TWRP 3.4 source would be better yet but still.
Hello~
I couldn't find anything in the BUA1 folder. (GDrive)
Is there anything wrong?
Also, BTK2 folder has data. It's the old version, but...
there is no T860 folder in SForge.

Always thank you for your hard work.
But,,, sorry to bother you,
It looks like the same file has been uploaded to BTK2 folder & BUA1 folder, is this normal?
The hash values are the same,
Please check once.

[Q]Kernel SU for oneplus 7 pro??

Hi,
anyone have any kernelSU that works with oneplus 7 pro?
Ive never heard of this however if you are able to compile the kernel with your hardware then you can set it up yourself, Let me know if you end up doing so cause I would like to check it out too! Id build it myself but I have 3gb left on my hard disk...

if you can save a video or screenshots for the steps and share it later it will be appreciated, a draft will be enough
Youll have to excuse my incoherent babbling then
Im almost finished with setting up my devices, after that its going to take a moment for android to dl then ill give it a go
Gotta restart today, didn't expect it to actually cost 200+gb for setup
No Problem, take your time really appreciate your work here,
it will work with android 11 right? as A12 is not stable for oneplus 7 pro

im going to try getting the .config off of my device as a base since i cant seem to find the guac defconfig. After that it should just be running the script and compiling
Alright, I think I figured it out. 3 reinstallations and 1tb later my env is almost complete
Alright I finally know what the **** im doing. Ill post the kernel once it compiles and here is a doc for building yourself
To compile the Android kernel source code, you will need to have a Linux-based d - Pastebin.com
Pastebin.com is the number one paste tool since 2002. Pastebin is a website where you can store text online for a set period of time.

I have updated the links.
The boot.img is only for LineageOS 20.
I'm not sure it work with OOS11 currectly or not.
You should try it by yourself.
You can flash the zip file through TWRP.
