I bought a pixel from the google store. I was using it on verizon, now I'm on tmobile. I noticed the build version is NDE63X, is this just because I was using verizon and it updated to that build? I'm a little worried that I am going to keep getting the verizon version now even though I'm not on verizon anymore and that they will lock my bootloader.
Edit: On the pixel-xl forums it appears that others have experienced this as well. I guess I should start searching pixel xl as it seems you get better results that way.
If you update to a non Verizon build and you have a Verizon sim you will get an OTA update to the Verizon build

EDIT"
Every Verizon phone I have owned loaded with a verizon splash screen.
Now as for the greyed out part, see if you are on the latest update. Some were having troubles with this if they weren't on the latest update. After updating, it turned this feature on

You need to be connected to the internet (wifi or cell) for the option to become available. If you're connected, and it's still greyed out. It's probably Verizon.

Hmmm......well good news is I rebooted phone and got a Google splash screen.
However, i didnt turn off auto updates in time and phone auto updated to 7.1.1.
Oem unlock still greyed out. And cuz of update, ship might have sailed on depixel8

Verizon pixels don't have a Verizon splash screen. They have to normal Google boot screen. I would figure it out and contact asurion if they gave you a Verizon pixel. They should be replacing the exact phone you had. If it is in fact a Verizon pixel you are screwed and can't unlock since it updated to 7.1.1
How do you even have insurance through verizon/asurion? I haven't had it in years but I thought you could only get that if you got the phone through verizon... Didn't think you could bring your own phone and add insurance?

Nope, that is incorrect as is evident in this example. Ive bought my phones off Ebay ever since Verizon did away with unlimited data plans. Ive had a few replacements since with no probs. The only requirement is your phone, regardless of where it was purchased, needs to show as being activated on your account. Asurion insures a ton of other carriers, not just VZW.
Delete, checking it out.
??
I'm assuming you're on Verizon, if so check your device's name on their website. It should say "NON VZW PIXEL" to indicate a Google store phone.

So other than the locked bootloader...is there any other difference between the Goog and Red versions. I got Verizon Pixel from Best Buy on $240 deal and have used exclusively on Tmobile. There is zero Verizon bloatware I can find.

No.
I'm sure you mean "factory unlockable bootloader" since even bought directly from Google the bootloader isn't unlocked until you check the option in Developer Settings and then use the fastboot command to unlock the bootloader, but yes, that's the only difference.
UPDATE:
So i just called up Asurian and told them I was having random reboot issues and they sent me a new VZW Pixel that was back on 7.1. I then went thru setup w/o SIM and no wifi and immediately depixel8'd it. All good now.
I can get the Verizon Pixel for a good deal. But I have some questions. Does the Verizon version allow side loading of updates? Also how much bloatware is on this version, and is there a ugly looking Verizon LOGO on the back of the phone? And if I wanted to put a T-Mobile sim in it, would it work? Also what about updates, does Verizon handle this or is it Google?
Thanks

As long as the phone hasn't been updated to 7.1.1 you can us depixel8 to unlock the bootloader which will allow you to sideload the updates. There are no Verizon markings on the phone anywhere. When you put a Verizon sim in the phone will download 3 Verizon apps that are user removable, no other Verizon bloat. For updates, they're pushed at the same time regardless of if it's a Google store or Verizon store phone. My gf's Verizon phone receives them about a week after I do but others have stated that they come in at the same time. So as long as it hasn't been updated yet, you're good to go on all your questions. Only one I can't answer is the T-Mobile sim question but I'm pretty sure I've seen comments through the forums of people using them on T-Mobile.

There are no Verizon markings on the phone, I didn't know that I couldn't update and still root and updated to 7.1.1. I went over a friend's house though and put in her T-Mobile sim and it seemed to work and let me make a call so I think the Verizon pixel is the same but after the update is just bootloader locked.
Does anyone have any info on how a Verizon bought Pixel XL can get updates when being used on T-Mobile? I've seen people talking about how it wouldn't work without a VZW inside the device. I've seen other people say where it worked anyway. I've seen people talk about having to sideload some kind of OTA update and future updates came from Google? Can someone clarify?
I would like to purchase a Pixel but i have some concerns. I'm on the Verizon network and some of the things I hate about Verizon are....
#1 They never update phones
#2 Locked Bootloader so I can't root my phone
#3 Loaded with Bloatware.
It seems like the Pixel solves most of these problems, right? I guess my questions are; if I buy a Pixel off ebay and bring it into Verizon for activation will they lock my phone and load it with bloatware? Will they make it impossible for me to root it? Will it be updated ever? I'd hate to purchase one of these only to have it turn out to be yet another typical Verizon bloatware/locked/never updated phone.
As long as it is the Google version none of that will happen. Lots of us with the Google version on VZ and it is fine.
But you need to ne certain it is the Google version and not the VZ version. I would be very careful on Ebay. I wouldn't buy it unless I could get my hands on it and unlock it first.
Oh wow. So the Verizon version cannot be unlocked at all? Even with depixel8? I was trying to find a way to distinguish between the Verizon and Google store versions and I stumbled onto this post where they break down the SKU meaning. One of the posts says...
What we're currently sure of is that the SKU is formatted as follows:
G-2PW[Model][Region]00-0[Country/Carrier][Storage]-[ColorCode]
Model:
4: Pixel
2: Pixel XL
Region:
1: North America
2: Rest of the World
Country/Carrier:
1: USA (non-carrier specific)
2: USA Verizon
3: Canada (?)
4: ? (Probably Europe)
5: India (probably rest of Asia as well)
Storage:
1: 32 GB
2: 128 GB
ColorCode:
A: Quite Black
B: Very Silver
C: Really Blue
So if I want a black 32 GB no-Verizon-bloatware-locked-version I would want SKU G-2PW4100-011-A, right?
A VZ version beyond 7.1 cannot be depixel8'd. I don't know the details of the sku system.
I have the Verizon version and think it's fine. I'm getting updates fine. In fact I'm on the beta version of Android O
That said when browsing the file system I did notice a bunch of Verizon folders. Not sure what's in then but I don't think it's completely bloat free but someone else can comment.
Oh and fun fact, I'm using my Verizon Pixel on T-MOBILE'S network. So maybe that's why I'm getting updates. No idea.

Updates are available on Googles site the same day for Verizon as well as the Google version of the phone. Updates are not an issue with the Verizon version of the phone. Literally the ONLY difference is one has an unlockable bootloader and one does not (unless it was 7.1). It's that simple.
So if the bootloader is locked I cannot root the phone, right?
The current root methods require an unlocked bootloader.
First of all, I don't live in the US. I have a friend there who can order one and ship it to me.
The Kinda Blue Pixel 2 looks nice and I wonder if I can just order it despite being limited to Verizon option? I don't root my phone so the bootloader locking isn't really an issue for me. I have read some threads saying that it's not carrier-locked. Can someone please clarify if I can just order it and ignore all the Verizon things? Will I need to register the SIM card that is included (can I just throw it away)? With whom do I need to contact if I were to send it back for replacement later? (Google or Verizon)
Any additional info is appreciated, thanks.
You can buy the kinda blue and put your own sim in. It is not carrier locked. You will have all the Verizon bloatware on it which you can disable. But it'll work. I almost did it too, but decided to go with Google black one in case I wanted to flash it although likely hood is very low.

I believe you can't unlock the bootloader for the Verizon version. The Pixel was that way. You had to use a hack to do it. There may be some delay as the original tool may not work this time around.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I've seen in confirmed somewhere that you cannot unlock the bootloader on the Verizon Pixel 2 (just like with the Pixel 1). Also, I think you will be dependent on Verizon for software updates (although with the Pixel 1, I think they have just stuck to Google's schedule). I don't think it's worth it for just a color.
My understanding for the bloatware, however, is that it's on all of the Pixels (that's, I believe, how it worked with the Pixel 1). It just doesn't show up unless you put a Verizon SIM in the phone.
So from what I have read online, Verizon phones will have the bootloader locked. The bloatware will come pre-installed on "Verizon" branded phones. The unlocked phones will get Verizon crap if a Verizon sim is installed. I believe about 4 programs will be pushed down. However, it could be uninstalled vs just being disabled. As for the software updates, Google will release updates to both versions of the phone. Verizon will not be able to touch the software and will have to release it immediately to "Verizon" branded Pixels.
