Root Fail Help? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am unable to root this dang phone! Trying to use RootJunky's "RSD Lite for Mac and Linux" instructions found here: ww.rootjunky.com/tag/linux, and just failing! I've got two phones now stuck in "Please wait, this may take a few minutes" mode.
Computer Specs:
Ubuntu 16.04
Phone Specs:
DROID RAZR HD
182.46.15.XT926.Verizon.en.US
4.4.2
VANQUISH_BP_100731.020.64.21P
KDA20.62-15
Steps:
Downloaded RSD-Lite-Mac_Linux.zip from ttp://rootjunkysdl.com/files/Android%20Programs/RSD-Lite-Mac-Linux.zip
unzip to a folder
Downloaded VZW_XT926_4.4.2-KDA20.62-15.1_CFC_1FF.xml.zip from AndroidFileHost.com (Motorola-Firmware-Team)
unzip to same folder
Open terminal
cd to folder
run `sudo ./rsd-flash.sh VZW_XT926_4.4.2-KDA20.62-15.1_CFC_1FF.xml`
At first this would not get past the first file in the .xml. I had an MD5 error. After fiddling with it for hours I discovered that I needed to change all the MD5's in the .xml to lower case! Ok. Did that. Which got me through the flash, but with MANY ERRORS.
[email protected]:~/Documents/projects/droid/razr_hd/RSD-Lite-Mac-Linux$ sudo bash rsd-flash.sh VZW_XT926_4.4.2-KDA20.62-15.1_CFC_1FF.xml

Hello rahimali,
Thanks for the response. I've been going through the post you recommended.
The phones I have are:
post-June 2014 (July 29th 2014 to be exact)
.182.46.15
The post recommends I flash 183.46.15 to them, but I have not found a way to do this. I'm on Ubuntu Linux and cannot find a tool to perform the flash. I tried Root Junky's rsd-flash.sh script with the VZW_XT926_4.4.2-KDA20.62-15.1_CFC_1FF.xml firmware. Even tried editing the .xml to remove the lines recommended in the post you provided:
<step operation="getvar" var="max-download-size" />
<step operation="flash" partition="partition" filename="gpt.bin" MD5="....MD5 sum here...." />
<step operation="flash" partition="tz" filename="tz.mbn" MD5="...MD5 sum here...." />
This did not work either. Same errors just after writing 'recovery':

The 182 or 183 is irrelevant. The fact that you have a July 29 kernel means that your bootloader is locked and cannot be unlocked unless you use the Sunshine app and pay them the requisite amount of $25.
But since your question related only to rooting your device, you can also find out how to do that from the linked thread.

I think the fact that my phones have 182 IS relevant. The post you pointed to says:
" If device has system version 182.46.15 XT926
Likely will need to flash the 183.46.15 XT926 firmware first, see end of this post for RSD Lite Instructions "
The RSD Lite Instructions in that post are what I've been trying to follow, but with Ubuntu, my only option is the Root Junky script I mentioned before that is not working. Trying RSD Like 6.2.4 on Windows 8.1 Pro in Virtualbox, but its not recognizing my phone.
What a PITA!

Wowsers, i've been working for days on this now... no go.
I have an official Motorola Data Cable plugged into a USB 2.0 port on my computer.
So far i've tried:
* Root Junky's rsd-flash.sh script on Ubuntu 16.04- NO GO due to the errors shown above
* Hydrogen Peroxide method on Windows 8.1 VM- NO GO due to "Your device is not supported" message at the Make it Rain step
* Flashing the stock firmware back to the devices using RSD Lite on Windows 8.1 VM- NO GO because no matter what I try, the phones will not show up in RSD Lite
* KingoRoot tool on Windows 8.1 VM- NO GO because it only supports phones up to Android 4.3
The next thing i'm going to try (which really looks like a PITA) is to use the SparseConverter tool to break up the system.img into manageable chunks in order to flash using Root Junky's script.
I rooted an XT926 way back in 2013 and it was a piece of cake. Android/Google/Motorola really hosed folks when they patched those pre-june 2014 exploits.
I still have that phone. Does anyone know if I can pull "the rootiness" off of it and "clone" it onto these other phones? That would be awesome.
Thanks

aEHHHSHHAHUGGHHH!!! I'm pissed now.
DOes anyone know why this is happening? Why does adb devices show nothing but fastboot devices shows the phone I have connected?

ahahahdhdhh!! I'm pissed now!
I was able to connect to my device using fastboot. I issued the command sudo fastboot flash recovery recovery.img from the stock firmware. The phone seemed to take it just fine. Still in boot loop. "Please wait, this may take a few minutes." then reboots.
Going to try to flash the boot.img next using fastboot to see if this makes any difference. Still unable to flash system.img due to the "chunk size" errors above. Does ANYONE have insights into this issue?

Just use windows operating system instead and use this here to root. Just follow directions in the cmd here is the link for it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3172551&d=1424298564 Also you will need this apk towel root by geo hot here is the link : https://towelroot.com/tr.apk install apk and run it when it tells you to in the cmd during root process. If you try over and over and it wont work then you can use kingo root as temporary root just don't reboot device until you unlock bootloader with the sun app witch you can download the apk from their website here http://theroot.ninja/index.html Note: The sun app cost 25 dollars to use it will ask for card information during unlock process.

really bricked? emmc bricked?

im new to the Motorola razr hd. I have an XT925 from Claro PR
I downloaded two of claro firmware images and neither want to flash. I know how to use fastboot and rsdlite is not complicated, it seems to be the phones partition or something along those lines.
the phone itself boots up but im greeted to a screen saying "encryption unsuccessful" and gives an option to reset or factory reset the phone. if you hit it it does nothing.
I tried a hard reset on recovery and it seems like it works but it says afterwards that it cant mount cache/recovery/log or something like it. and upon boot it stays the same.
tried flashing through fastboot and mfastboot. bootloader is locked and it cant be unlocked...

This thread, though it may not seem related, will probably pull you through.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2273574
I did read it but their problem was that effectively and unintentionally they were trying to downgrade...
I just get remote failure. Ive had this problem on some galaxys that was solved with a repartition.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using Tapatalk 4
Not the remote failure but the fact that it can't format because it couldn't find the partition....

Is there really nothing for this? No other tools or something?
No gurus here?

Well selling for Parts... Im guessing it could also be a hardware error...

Are you on JB 4.1.2 on the Claro PR rom? By OTA or was it preinstalled? Give me those details and I can see if the tutorial that I used to unbrick mine can be used on yours (I too have an RAZR HD from claro and it got bricked about a month ago). Here I'm gonna add the attachment that contains the tutorial and the builds neccessary for the RAZR HD on claro (4.1.2 jb)
Sent from my XT925 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for that. I downloaded both builds and tried both. Neither say anything about downgrading so I'm guessing it had 4.0.4 but tried the update and it wouldn't write it to phone. It transfers but can't write it. Which makes me think it has a damaged emmc... Ala mytouch 4g...
I have the correct drivers and know how to use rsdlite and fastboot.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using Tapatalk 4
Sorry for the late answer. Hmmm, if you are on 4.0.4 then the tutorial won't work as it is only made for RAZR HD from Claro PR on 4.1.2 jb. Otherwise it suppose to work without any problem, my RAZR HD was bricked last month and it didn't pass through the AP fastboot menu and said fastboot reason: flash failed. Tried the tutorial above and worked again. You need to ensure you are doing everything correctly, also the part of removing the "getvar" lines from the XML is really important. Hope this solves your problem, otherwise you will have to take it to someone who knows or keep searching. Sorry if im not able to help you more, Im new to android, there is little I know about this OS
Sent from my XT925 using xda app-developers app
I did try it. I removed the getvar line... I tried a couple other things too... But nothing. Thanks though. I returned the phone to its previous owner.

You need to look for your firmware on droid Sbf developers website, download RSD Lite 6.1.4, and flash the firmware through AP fastboot using RSD Lite

Your problem is very strange but something like this happened to me and I fixed it by flashing with RSD 6.1.4 instead of 6.1.5, don't know how but it worked.

Broken
I take the phone to the authorized motorola service. They told me, the memory chip is damaged. The only solution is a new mother board == a new phone.
what I can do with the phone?
Buy a new motherboard (too expensive, or difficult to find another used in my area)
A nice paperweight
Sell for pieces
Throw to someone

Huawei mate 9 dump needed

Hello all
Since nobody helped me with my mate 9, which did no sign of life, i started searching...on the mainboard.
I found the tespoint that gave me access to board, loaded fastboot in the ram, and now my MATE 9 shows in the fastboot devices.
This, i think ,is a big step for MATE 9 phones, which we might brick.
OK, so here is what i need. If it work, i promise that in maximum 1 day after testing this, i will post a guide for unbrick.
Code:
C:\Users\MONSTER>fastboot flash boot F:\dload\BOOT.img
target reported max download size of 471859200 bytes
sending 'boot' (16208 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.549s]
writing 'boot'...
FAILED (remote: flash write prim vrl failure)
finished. total time: 0.680s
This is the error style i got, when flashing boot, recovery, fastboot, and others.
Flashing system,product,vendor,vector, works.
As @Tkkg1994 posted here, https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70410219&postcount=454
vrl.img really exists (i never heard of,and firstly,i thought that is URL.img ) )and may have something to do with partition table or smth like that.
I would need as many as partitions possible, since i have only those extracted from update.app.
So,please, anyone, if have time, try to help.
PS: @duraaraa - sir, i'm disturbing you again. but again,i think you can help.
What do you need, and how to help you?
Gesendet von meinem MHA-L29 mit Tapatalk
i need those img's
verlist.img
vrl.img
vrl_backup.img
dts.img
dtx.img
version.img
isp_boot.img
patch.img
persist.img
secure_storage.img
splash2.img
But i admit, that i have no idea how to get them from a working phone.Maybe others can help here.
I also have no idea how @Tkkg1994 obtained this partition list.
Hmm, the some are included in update.app , which can be extracted. But this is a basic thing you already know.
Indeed the most are not in updated.app like vrl.img dtx, version, isp, pathch persist etc. Maybe they are temporary build during update process.
well...with those in update.app already tried, they solve nothing, even if flashing is ok.
something is missing...
and btw....who seen before this error?

You should have a clear understanding what is the purpose of these partitions, and how they are used.
If you are loading code into RAM directly (over debug UART or whatever), then it is possible to load Linux kernel (zImage)
with any custom ramdisk (+busybox). At this point "fastboot" is completely redundant, because flashing can be
done by 'cat foo.img > /dev/sdcNN'.

well, i don't have that clear understanding. i'm a noob.
imagine that at work, (gsm repair shop)i'm helped by software and hardware tools.
i never did that before,to load something into ram for x reason.
so right now, i try to learn things, and to bring my phone back to life.
what i tried to do,was like that. if i broke internal partitions, that after restart killed my phone, now i'm trying to get them back, maybe they solve something.
in ram, i loaded fastboot image and xloader.
that gave me access to fastboot.
until some clear instructions, i keep trying.

vrl and vrl_backup are first 2 partitions on /dev/sdd (/dev/block/sdd1 and /dev/block/sdd2)
Code:
Number Start (sector) End (sector) Size Name
1 128 255 512K vrl
2 256 383 512K vrl_backup
I have dumped them to the SD card with 'cat /dev/block/sdd1 > /storage/sdcard1/D1' and 'cat /dev/block/sdd2 > /storage/sdcard1/D2'
The contents seems to be identical
Code:
# md5sum /storage/sdcard1/D1
06da2cbdf74659d24430114c104e08b8 /storage/sdcard1/D1
# md5sum /storage/sdcard1/D2
06da2cbdf74659d24430114c104e08b8 /storage/sdcard1/D2
fastboot (aka bootloader) is the partition /dev/sdd24
Code:
24 151552 154623 12.0M fastboot_a
and the xloader is on a different 4MB "disk" /dev/sda
Code:
# fdisk -l /dev/block/sda
Note: sector size is 4096 (not 512)
Disk /dev/block/sda: 4 MB, 4194304 bytes, 8192 sectors
128 cylinders, 1 heads, 8 sectors/track
Units: cylinders of 8 * 4096 = 32768 bytes
Disk /dev/block/sda doesn't contain a valid partition table

that's good.
it would be easier to do what i want, with cat, as you said.
i would follow partitions profile by tkkg1994, and write them to emmc.
but since i have only fastboot.....

Check which partitions you can extract from the full ROM/UPDATE.APP.
For your reference, my MHAL29C432 has 4 "scsi" disks /dev/sda (4MB xloader), /dev/sdb (4MB unused), /dev/sdc (frp stuff)

any idea of some img to load into ram?
or is there a method, that, allows me to flash files on emmc, over serial port?
i mean, serial port allows me to load them into ram.
but i wonder if it's capable to see the emmc.
@user4774 - i noticed that, flashing img's in the order that you gave me, beginning with vrl and vrl_backup, the write prim vrl failed error is gone.
so all of them,in that log,are flashed in order.
@ajsmsg78 - sir, i saw your no force encription boot image, and wanted to ask if you could help me with some file to load into ram, but which is capable to accept some others commands, excluding fastboot

How to install RUU

Hello
I would like to return my HTC one mini to factory firmware. After much searching, I found and downloaded this:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=29622
PO58IMG_M4_UL_K44_SENSE60_MR_HTC_Europe_4.14.401.2_Radio_1.28.40e.00.24_10.z19.40.1304L_release_450912_combined_signed.zip
I checked my device version:
$ Fastboot getvar version-main
version-main: 4.14.401.2
finished. total time: 0.006s
I tried this:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
target reported max download size of 800227328 bytes

The bootloader is relocked.
What could be the problem?
P.S. I cannot open the zip file in Windows. It says it is invalid. Could be corrupt?
Hmm... I think that a Relocked bootloader is the problem. By the way did you try flashing the RUU trough TWRP?

*Hard Brick* Nothing but Bootloader

Hi,
my HTC ONE MINI just reboots into bootloader. Everytime i start it it boots itself into bootloader. As long i tried to flash the Stock Rom, the Stock Recovery and the TWRP Recovery but everytime it end up into an ERROR. I also tried to unlock the bootloader but it dont work it worked as long i tried to flash the unlock_code.bin. It does everything but then nothing happens.
Informations:
What shows up in my bootloader:
Code:
***LOCKED***
M4_UL PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.22.0000
OS-4.14.401.2
eMMC-boot 1024MB
'The Date(Wrong ;)
the usual stuff (the red fastboot Font, Bootloader, Reboot, Reboot Bootloader, Power Down )
Thats the result when i try to flash the stock ROM.
Code:
C:\Users\#####\Desktop\Flashable>fastboot flash zip PN07IMG_M7_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_HTC_Europe_7.19.401.2_Radio_4T.35.3218.16_10.33Q.1718.01L_release_421790_signed.zip

Cannot flash system into Xperia E C1505

Hi guys,
I have problem with my rooted Xperia E C1505 with unlocked bootloader. I'm trying to flash system but it always end with error.
What I tried:
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
Ends up with:
Code:
target didn't report max-download-size
sending 'system' (208764 KB)...
FAILED (remote: Download size too large)
finished. total time: 0.008s
So I tried to flash it in multiple parts:
Code:
fastboot -S 128M flash system system.img
And got stuck with this message:
Code:
Invalid sparse file format at header magi
error: write_sparse_skip_chunk: don't care size 79560896 is not a multiple of the block size 4096
sending sparse 'system' 1/2 (131068 KB)...

error: write_sparse_skip_chunk: don't care size 79560896 is not a multiple of the block size 4096

(bootloader) Unsupported chunk type: 0x0
At this point flashing stuck.
I don't know what to do with it because flashing boot/userdata works great, erasing partitions doesn't help and another threads on this subject also doesn't help me a lot.
Maybe could be helpful that
Code:
fastboot getvar all
returns nothing.
I also tried to change USB cable but it doesn't seem like this is the problem.
Thanks for any help
