What exactly causes a thread to be closed?

Not trying to start a beef or cause a problem for anyone here. I'm just wondering. There was a thread last night that was about the Imagio/Whitestone and I finally connected with other people using it and someone gave me some helpful advice. I got up this morning and came to this forum to thank that person for their help and the thread says that its closed. What happened? Like I said, I'm not trying to cause any problems. I would just really like to know what the reason was and why it was shut down. Did we do something wrong? If we did I'd like to make sure that I don't make that mistake in the future. All constructive and positive comments are welcome.
Threads are normally closed when answered. Moderators normally leave a comment in closing, but sometimes, due to time constraints, real lifes issues, or because they think it's obvious, etc. they don't.
I've had to look for your thread, seen as though you didn't post a link . It looks like it was another discussion on the creation / search for a Whitestone forum. There is a Topaz CDMA section that covers that, so the matter is closed. I think in this case the moderator decided there was nothing more to discuss.

Dave
In my experience, a thread will usually be closed because:
It's been posted before. When somebody opens 5 identical threads in 5 different places all about the same thing, most of them will be closed and deleted.
The thread is quickly on its way to becoming a flame war, and mods close it to keep the peace.
It's spam. Spam threads will be closed and deleted.
It's redundant. The original poster will have asked a question which was answered in a Sticky, the wiki, or could have easily been found had they searched.
The thread has served its purpose, such as a question being asked, and nothing more needs to be added to the thread. I think this is probably what happened to the thread you mentioned.
The the original poster has requested it be closed for some reason.
It contains warez, or otherwise violates one of these rules.
Looks like Dave beat me to it

HTC Titan/Eternity

Does this phone have HDMI out via the micro usb port?
Ive read alot that it does but no confirmations, I have one but no connector and nothing about it on the HTC site.
Edit:I thought I put a better Title on this any chance a mod could change it to something like
Does HTC Titan/Eternity have HDMI out
There is a thread about unboxing HTC Titan just opened yesterday. Please find it here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1309175, and the OP has kindly offered to answer many questions about this device. This thread is first result when you use search function of XDA forums putting in your proposed title "Does HTC Titan/Eternity have HDMI out" and also you can find many others about HDMI & Titan.
This is not only for this one but for every other threads in this forum section. I am really impressed how many threads are opened in this section which are dying in the following 5 minutes! this is not good for all of us making difficult to find answers and also to provide help if we can. So please everybody go here, read and follow the rules, specially first rule, its for the benefit of all of us. Thanks in advance.

It would really help if we had forums specific to The TITAN as well.
I did search, there is no thread mentioning HDMI out and titan in the windows phone section. I thought it might get a bit more exposure here than on the end of someones review thread.
Edit: agree with the above about its own forum

Can you post a pic of it?
This is a duplicate post. Please don't make multiple posts about the same thing. You already asked this question in the other thread you made. Please help keep this forum clean and have this thread closed, and use the other thread you created.

As asked by our moderator, Please help keep the threads here organized and neat.
I am not trying to be a jerk here, just letting you know. Others might not be so nice about it in the future, and if a mod sees this your thread(s) will be closed, or deleted.

I reported it to our Mod a little earlier.
Yes we are strict, we have to be in order to keep XDA running.
I am closing this thread down, continue this discussion in this thread pls.
Do not flame or attack other users, consider this a warning, a friendly message should be enough in most cases. If you see anyone not doing so, please report his post and let me deal with it.
Thanks.

OEM Audio Jack

I dropped my phone while listening to music, and it broke the inside of my audio jack. Now I can only hear through one side. I tried a few sets of headphones, and they all have the same problem. I decided to replace it myself since its an easy fix. The only problem is that there are very few places that sell the OEM headphone jack. Found one on etradesupply but I'm not familier with them and i read a few bad things about them. Does anyone have a site I should check. I also found a few for the i9300, but Im not sure if their compatible. So if anyone could help with any of these I would appreciate it.
