Just picked up a Radar, moving from two years of Android. Hoping I could get some help on the following questions:
1) Does WiFi turn off when the phone sleeps? If so, is this a changeable setting?
2) I'm having trouble getting GoVoice to notify me. I've gone through all the setup numerous times. I leave myself a voicemail and I don't get notified. If I click the app, it refreshes, vibrates and gives me the new message.
3) Is there a way to bypass the initial lockscreen when using password lock?
4) Is there a way to have the Maps app voice direct me automatically, or I have to touch the screen?
5) Can the maps app navigate if it isn't in the foreground?
6) How do I truly close an app? Like when I run Slacker and stop using it, it still displays on the lock screen.
7) Is there really a difference in the find my phone functionality turning off push vs sms?
THANKS

Yes it turns off. Not changeable.
2) I'm having trouble getting GoVoice to notify me. I've gone through all the setup numerous times. I leave myself a voicemail and I don't get notified. If I click the app, it refreshes, vibrates and gives me the new message.
Dont use it, but did you contact the app developer?
3) Is there a way to bypass the initial lockscreen when using password lock?
No, it's more secure than Android bypasses.
4) Is there a way to have the Maps app voice direct me automatically, or I have to touch the screen?
Not bing maps. There are alternatives.
5) Can the maps app navigate if it isn't in the foreground?
Not sure it can. It will refresh to your current position when you go back to it.
6) How do I truly close an app? Like when I run Slacker and stop using it, it still displays on the lock screen.
Back, back, back, back till you go to home screen.
7) Is there really a difference in the find my phone functionality turning off push vs sms?
I would leave all of those settings as 'on' as that maximizes my chances of finding my phone.

For WiFi, if you are streaming music with one of the Pandora apps (MetroRadio or RemoteConrolled), it will continue to play using WiFi.
Try pinning the GoVoice app. Not sure if it will help or if you already did this. If you are in an area with no coverage when the notification is sent, you might miss it. Then you will need to launch the app and refresh. GoVoice could be modified to check this with a background process that would run every 30 minutes. It may already do that.
As far as closing apps. For music, I usually just pause it. It will eventually be inactive. Unlike Android, apps are actually suspended when put in the background. If music is paused it isn't streaming, so it isn't doing any work.
If you really want the processes cleaned up. Back, Back, Back, ...
Maps don't update in the background. In fact GPS can't be accessed in the background. But, the GPS works fast in the foreground.
Faster way to close the app out it hold the back button, select the window that has the app like slacker, when app comes up, hit back.
Not to say you can't do it, but I wouldn't worry about closing apps. On Android you needed to as they would suck your phone dry with unruly processes and poor management. With windows phone its a suspended action unless streaming something. So in the case of slacker, or any other music player, once you hit "pause" its a stopped process. It isn't using resources, and will eventually be kicked out.
The WP system will manage it on its own and boot out old processes to make room for things if its finding that it needs to.

I switched off the stock email APP because it was showing the wrong number of mails on the icon.
I went back to Bluemail which I had used on my Moto Z without issue, took that off and now have Typeapp but same problem - no incoming email notification sound on either?
Any thoughts?

OK if you have done all the necessary settings (all permissions, notifications settings, ignoring Android optimization) then....
You have the same problem either if you leave the app open in resent apps?
This is a more general problem than just with BlueMail.
If you look back a few weeks you'll find a thread about MailDroid, that doesn't give a proper notification tone. I've had to change to Blue Mail, and it does notify properly for me. However when I first used it the app didn't always pick up a mail until I brought it out of lock. It seems to be OK now.
I think this is down to the Mate's aggressive battery-saving that is supposed to learn about app use.
And yes, I have checked the app settings and the phone settings over and over to make sure they are right.
Thanks for the replies. I tried another 3 APPS and all failed to play the notification when I sent a test mail from my PC.
I ended up back with an oldie I haven't used for years - K9 - and all is working as it should.
Not the most up to date look but if it works I'll settle for that. Four APPS with all the settings to key in and then delete it took me to midnight last night... enough was enough
Glad to hear you have found a substitute that works.
With so many different apps being affected, I'm sure there is a system problem with notifications. Hopefully this will be sorted with a future update.
Outlook works fine. Gmail is worse.

For a few week I've not been receiving push notifications for Messenger and a couple of other apps, I've tried clearing cache, reinstalling, upgraded to beta firmware, factory reset to normal firmware, checked every power saving and notification settings I can find and I'm getting no where. I have avast and malwarebytes installed but have tried 24 hours without them.
I've noticed if I wake the phone and see the icon in the edge panel or from the app tray the app seems to wake and sometimes pushes through notifications. Very frustrating!
Anyone got any ideas?

I have the exact same problem and none of these settings helped me. Do you think that it is an app-related problem?

In order to get app notifications , you must give app permissions to auto start. Otherwise you only will get notifications when app running .

I found that in notifications access setting, 'notification' was disabled, I've allowed this and will see how I get on tomorrow.
Today I had 50 outlook email notifications come through all at once... Phone blew up like Beyonce!
It's crazy this is happening, really puts me off the S8 plus.
Thanks for the help

Where can I find the auto start settings? Google is not fruitful on this one
Cheers!
Still not getting notifications for messenger. Does anyone know where the setting to allow messenger to auto start is.
I'm convinced it's some sort of aggressive power management feature.

Check the screen shots .
If didn't understand then reinstall the app and give all access include auto run tick when system ask.

I found the area where permissions are granted. Settings>Apps> {Appname}> scroll down to "Permissions" > tap the three dots at top right corner> tap "All permissions". This gets me to an area where it shows all of the available permissions to assign the this app. I do not see an "autostart" or anything similar.
Hi guys,
I'm having problems with getting messenger notifications. Sometimes I just don't get them, only after half an hour. It happens when the phone screen is off and I don't use it. However other apps notifications arrive.
And sometimes I get the messenger notifications in wrong order and it's very annoying.
I tried to solve it by setting the app start to manual but it didn't help.
I hope you can help solving this.

whats your app launch settings
for me when i go to app launch and click the blue tab the choices i leave is
auto launch on
secondary launch on
run in background on
then i press ok.
Thanks
I can recommend keeping the app you've got issues with open in the recents window. Swipe them down to "lock" them which should make sure they aren't automatically closed. That fixed my issues with WhatsApp without changing any other options.
Okay
Thanks
Hi, just bought a mate 30 pro a few days ago without google services. I side loaded all the apps I needed and everything was working great until I realised I wasn't getting my facebook messenger notifications. If the app is open they come through but when I close the app it's like it goes to sleep after about 5 mins. I made messenger my default sms app to see if that would help and all my texts worked fine but my facebook messages just won't work.
I have all my notifications on, app launch set to manual to allow auto-launch, secondary launch and run in background. I even allowed all permissions but didn't make a difference. I have performance mode on and have selected stay connected when device sleeps.
Has anyone else had any problems like this or know how to fix it? I've done a factory reset and been through every option I could think of. I love the mate 30 pro but probably going to have to get rid of it if i can't fix this problem.

Go to notification settings and turn on sounds and "on top" option. All notifications works well for me - asian version of mate 30 pro.
Same thing happened to me. What i did was reset phone update to the firmware and after that it went back to normal. For some reason it stopped working after i used the app phone clone tranffering old apps from my old mate 10. Hope it helps...
Same with me on my Mate 30 Pro 5G chuna version
Manage launch already set manuall and auto launch, secondary launch and keep running background all is ON..but same no notif
Yes..same in here too..mate 30 pro 5G china
All launch manually,it means run background, auto start always on..but still no luck..after 5 mins idle..no notif.
But my fren have it with global rom,and it work normally
No lock apps
I wonder if the reasons behind this problem are also the reason behind 'alarms' not going off sometimes. For example, I have an app called 'Alarm Clock Radio', and it seems like it needs to be the 'front' app for the alarm to remain set overnight? It seems to work just fine if I 'test' it by setting alarms in the near future, but it rarely lasts overnight. This app adds a notification when it has an alarm set, but that is sometimes not there and that seems to be coincident with the alarm not working...
oh, and also Accubattery, that is supposed to alert you when the charge gets to a certain level, but sometimes doesn't....

I made the changes to the 'Battery optimisation', so that the apps that I want to run long term, for whatever reason, aren't 'killed'...ie set to "Don't allow - May drain your battery more quickly"; but they still don't last until the next morning. I would have thought that apps like 'Alarm clock radio' would set some kind of system alarm that would launch the radio app, rather than have to have the app running continuously.
I ran the app Push Notification Tester and it comes back with error after 4 tests. Not registered for push notifications. It doesn’t matter if you change settings or not you don’t receive push notifications. Weird because I get normal SMS and WhatsApp just fine!

I think it has to do with the Mate 30 Pro not being registered with google and because so many apps as made for the google services, you can’t get Push Notifications to work 100%
All apps that reply on play service to send push notifications wont work you cant pass all the test.

Indeed. My question is do all apps on Google Android require GMS to send Push Notifications?
I ask because I know that not only Google run the notification services, but do they all use the GMSes on Google Android phones, or can phones have multiple on-device services to consolidate communications with cloud-based push notification services?
Can, eg, a Pixel phone, also install Huawei Managed Services?

Very good question. I have been looking into it but so far I thinks that’s why Huawei is trying to get all the apps on there system! (HMS)

Apps like the whatsapp, messenger, viber etc still work. Apps that work perfectly before you install the GMS will receive push notifications. Because they dont rely on the play service.

Exactly, I realised after installing GMS on Mate 30 Pro that push notification on Gmail, Outlook and most apps are not working. Instant messaging, social media and messenger are working just okay with or without GMS.
I just installed GMS on my mate30 pro, everything works well, just push notification is not working.
I ran the tester and there is a error of registration error of push notification.
How to fix this?
