D820 "Unkown Device" - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have a problem here, I bough a very, VERY cheap D820 to a guy I met a few days ago, he told me that he was trying to root the phone and he somehow bricked it so he was selling it half priced, anyway, the problem is that I cannot get the phone to be recognized by any PC running Windows OS or Linux based OS. Linux does nothing at all, and windows says "Unknown Device" every time I connect the device.
I downloaded Google drivers, Android SDK Drivers, Universal Naked Drivers and had no luck at all, windows says the best fitting driver is installed allready (Unknown Device). Also there's no OTG detection either. I can only charge the phone but there's no data transfer of any kind, I've even tried with different usb cables with no luck.
I noticed that the device have installed TWRP 3.0.2-0, the OS instaled was Official 4.4.2 and there wasn't any SMS app installed, not even Google Play or any file explorer app so I went to my other phone, downloaded NitrogenOS along with Pico GAPPS, did a full wipe (DATA, DALVIK, CACHE, SYSTEM) and flashed the ROM and GAPPS. The phone booted just fine, there's no issue with the OS, WiFi works very well, also LTE and H+, bluetooth, I mean everything, yet, the problem persist, I cannot get the device to be recognized by any PC.
Can anyone help me? I don't know what to do next.
PS: I can access bootloader and recovery without any issue yet, adb and fastboot doesn't recognize the device even with debugging turned on.

Sounds like the USB flex cable in the phone is damaged.
Tried different USB cables and USB ports?

Yeah, I tried 4 different fully working USB cables (tested them on my Motorola Moto G xt1032), I think the micro USB port on the Nexus its ok because I can charge the phone normally without any problem at all, the issue comes when I try to connect the device to any PC or OTG adapter to transfer files and such.

I believe It's possible that the phone USB flex cable is damaged even though it charges but will not transfer data.

Agree, most likely the USB port. Not a difficult or expensive part to replace.

[Q] USB not recognized

Hi all,
My Droid charge decided to do something weird today; it no longer will USB mount! This problem is particularly bad because, while I can put the phone in download mode, my computer will not recognize the USB and ODIN (1.2 & 1.8) cannot wipe the phone.
Any suggestions? I really need my phone back, but I'm not sure what to do.
Tried reinstalling the USB Samsung Drivers, using the original data cable, and two different computers (Win7). SD card will mount in an external drive (aka without the phone), and the phone will charge via USB. I have the most recent form of CWM on it, and the EP4P debloated and rooted rom.
Thanks,
frak

That happened to me a while back. Mine had the added bonus of going into desk dock mode and staying there. It was a hardware issue with the USB port. It would charge, but nothing else. Mine did become intermittent though, and cycling the cable in and out seemed to help it some, but ultimately, I had to send it in for replacement

What cable are you using? I accidentally grabbed my charging-only cable the other day and didn't realized it only had the wires for positive and negative. No data pins.
Is it the cable that came with your Droid?

Had that yesterday. A different port worked fine for me. Maybe a couple of power cycles will do the trick.

[Q] ADB not connecting

Not sure when USB stopped working but nothing I've done let's my HTC One X (AT&T) connect via usb. I'm running CM10.1 and have tried both MTP and USB Storage and none of my PC's will see my phone.
I'm running TWRP 2.5, which I just updated today. When I boot into recovery and mount USB, my PC shows nothing. I boot the phone into recovery and the fastboot line says fastboot AC instead of fastboot USB. I've tried 3 different cables, an older cable that came with a MyTouch 4G, the HOX cable, and a generic USB cable. All three cables work with my wife's HOX, though hers is stock.
I've also tried on two different laptops (one vista, one win7), my PC (win7), even ran an Ubuntu VM on my PC and nothing.
HTC Sync Manager has been installed and is currently uninstalled though I do see the HTC Driver in Programs so it is there. Some times when I plug the phone in I get an error from Windows about the USB device not installing right. One odd thing is I don't see the device anywhere in device manager, nothing other Other, Android Devices or anything like that.
Developer options are turned on, with Android debugging, USB debugging notify turned on. Root access is set to Apps and ADB.
I've tried other things I've found such as turning the phone off and plugging it into the USB and letting windows detect that way. Pretty much at a loss at this point.

[Q] No USB connection while booted into Android or TWRP...

Hi Guys,
I've had a few problems with my N5 recently...
If I plug my N5 into my PC via the stock USB cable and boot into the Bootloader (PWR+VOLDN) then it will allow me to flash the original N5 firmware, located here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images, this would indicate to me that there is no issue with the actual devices ability to transfer files via USB connection... Right?
No!
For some strange reason my phone will allow me to push a full factory image to it and will also process any Fastboot commands that are sent to it but as soon as you boot into something like TWRP and try to control the phone's ADB functionality it will not find the device at all! The new MTP option in TWRP 2.8 will allow my computer to see my phone's MTP connection for about 1 second and then will immediately disconnect, the same happens when trying to connect to MTP from within Android too.
USB debugging doesn't show that it is connected when my phone is plugged into my PC and Windows makes the 'device connected' sound and then straight after makes the 'device disconnected' sound...
Any ideas? I am certain that this is an issue with my handset's hardware or software rather than any of the computers or cables... I have tried 3 different cables (including the stock cable) and also three different computers (Windows 8.1 @ Work, Mac OS X @ Work and my own personal PC running Windows 8.1 & Ubuntu @ Home)... All OSs and all computers run into exactly the same issue, device connects briefly and then disconnects.
I have troubleshooted issues relating to the driver. This is not the issue... Device Manager cannot even see the hardware after the disconnect.
Thanks for any help in advance,
Lewis
Also:
-Android does not detect that the USB is charging the device unless the device is booted with the cable attached (if it's not attached before the 'Google' screen then it can't see the USB input at all, within android or TWRP, of course...).

It's most likely a driver issue.

Not a driver issue.
3 different Nexus 5s, 5 different workstations. Other two Nexi are fine on all 5 PC's.
1 PC used for ADB forensics, 2 used for ADB development work, one known working for ROM'ing / rooting.
Phone has been factory reset, factory ROM'd from Fastboot. Connects fine on Fastboot. Will not connect on ADB / MTP.
On a fresh PC / phone reboot, the PC will detect the phone for just a second and then it will not reconnect until process is completed.

OTG pendrive and connecting to pc not working

I'm currently at B540 and my otg pendrive is not working with my phone and my phone only shows charging when connected to my computer. I updated to B540 recently in hope that the problem would be fixed, but I have been facing this problem since i upgraded to lollipop. Please help.
Hardware issue
There can be multiple possibilities.....
1. Your sync cable is bad or damaged .
2. There is some problem with your pc.
3. You've got a bad usb jack on your phone.
Solutions
1. Try with a different cable, make sure you don't use generic ones... I used some earlier and they caused a problem every now and then.
2. Try on a different laptop or pc
3. Update latest huawei drivers, and also update adb drivers just in case.
4. You can also try to hard reset the phone.
And if nothing works, get your USB jack checked.
There are 4 connections on the jack
2 are for charging and 2 are for Data sync purposes
Maybe you've a broken connection or something.

My phone is not working with other computers and other phones are working with my computer. Same is the case with my pendrive.
I think there is a problem with a driver or something in my phone.
If this is the case, Try to reflash the firmware.....

should i try flashing marshmallow ?
Sure you can try it.
But i do not think this is a software issue anymore....
Your USB jack on the phone needs a checkup
Facing the same problem on Honor 6
H60-L04
B520
5.1.1
EMUI 3.1
I too am facing the same problem. After doing a factory reset, it seemed working fine for a few days and now i still continue to have the same problem.
Looking for some geeks to provide a solution to this issue. Definately it is not a USB port issue.
Uh! I was on B510, and just flashed B520 to upgrade to marshmallow..... If this is a software issue. Just upgrade it to marshmallow
