I've been out of the loop since I've been on an iPhone for a little bit now. I purchased a UNLOCKED SM-G930T and want to root it. I will eventually be using it on MetroPCS. Can someone advise what's my best course of action?

Here's a very explanatory guide you can follow!
It's safe and you are guaranteed not to get bricked, however if you are not on PE1 firmware (which you most likely are updated) you will loose your data, but it's worth it.

Appreciate that link bud. IDK how I overlooked it. Is there a recovery I can use as well or am I pretty much going to have to settle for Root alone?

No recovery, but you can use flashfire to do similar things.

The only reason I do not go over installing a custom recovery is because the goal is to NOT VOID warranty.

so i have rooted my evo before but i had to take it in to sprint because i broke the screen. i havent rooted it again since because last time they gave me a huge problem that it was rooted. today, i talked to my friend and he has his rooted with roms and everything. he says that even if rooted, and with a rom it is possible to go back to factory with superuser app gone and everything, if need be. i wanted to know if this is correct, and if so, how?
i am supposed to go to his house tomorrow for him to do it all for me, i want to make sure i really want to do this.
thank you!

First, you need to go to unrevoked and root your phone. There are plenty of step/step guides out there, I'll see if I can find a good one for ya. Recommend doing a bunch of reading before jumping in, or waiting for your friend to do it tomorrow.
Edit: be sure to click on More info link on unrevoked site and read up.

Does anyone know if this is possible? It's supposed to be as simple as one click and it roots the phone (which is what I wanna do.. keep it easy). For some reason, it was taking a while and it didn't work. I'm just guessing, but is it possible it might not work since 2.3 is relatively new? If that's the case, do I gotta go back to 2.2 for this to work or something like that? Or is there another app I can use that'll work just as easy on 2.3?
Any response is appreciated.
Thanks.
be prepared

no you can not root 2.3.3 at all. you will need to put recovery on and flash a prerooted rom from the development section. all instructions are there.

just go to the development section and look at top theres a sticky and it walks you through everything its very easy. remember this may void your warranty.

So I had a Galaxy S1 Captivate for about 2 year and my wife has a Fascinate and I rooted/flashed them both like it was my job for the last couple years. I never once hard bricked either and for the most part knew what I was doing. I have a couple home made jigs so DL mode or (soft bricks) were never an issue. My question to you guys is I'm trying to gauge how difficult/risky is it to root and rom the GS3 (Verizon model specifically). The reason I'm wondering this info is because I personally don't own my GS3, it is property of my company and I don't want to chance bricking or not being able to easily flash back to stock unless it has gotten easier or less risky since the original Galaxy lineup. I mean if you had 2.3 bootloaders on your GS1 and you had access to a jig, there was pretty much a 0% chance of hard bricking unless you do something really stupid. Sorry for rambling on!

I came from the Fascinate and this phone is just as easy to flash. Just make sure you read the OP and only flash things made for the US versions and you'll be fine. If something gets hosed, you can always odin back. Here is a great guide to get you started.

I haven't checked that link out yet but how easy is it to go back to the Verizon stock ROM if need be?
Does the ROM procedure go something like this?...
Power Off, DL mode with jig, ODIN a CWM or Kernel package with CWM, mount SD, drag and drop ROM, Flash, win?
well...
well the good news is that you don't have to flash a custom rom for root. I just rooted and unlocked my phone while still running the stock rom. =) i'd post my tutorial but I'm a new member and I have 8 more posts to do before I can post in development.

There is already an in depth tutorial for that as well as one for those who have the recent OTA.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
The above link is those with the jelly bean OTA.

This above is the in depth guide I was talking about. It was posted on 7/10/12. So there is no need for another tutorial unless you found a new way to do it. If you are talking about RootDebugFS then there is a tutorial for that here as well as the SuperSU version here as well.
I also came from a fascinate which was super easy to flash. As long as you read up on your homework this phone is cake to flash.
You shouldn't have many problems. If you need help, PM me. I'm glad to help.

So I'm wondering one last thing. I hear about a "flash counter" on the GS3... anything I need to be really careful about to not trip this "counter"? Will Verizon void the warranty if tripped?
Thanks again guys!
Also, I'm going to be using this phone a lot for work and I ported my old personal number to Google Voice so this will be my personal phone as well, so I need the phone to be pretty solid and stable, should I be looking to flash Original ROMs or from the regular development section?

Once your rooted, you can download Triangle Away from the App Store and that will restore the counter to 0.

Thanks! Do you need to run the app every time you flash or just right before you would need to take it in to Verizon for warranty/service?

If you unlock bootloader before you flash recovery you will not trip flash counter. If counter is tripped must use Triangle Away while still on stock rom. That being said flash counter does not affect anything except warranty and requires you to Odin stock root, run triangle Away then Odin full stock so best to fix as soon as you root and unlock to avoid extra work at time of return to Verizon.

Hey guys. So I decided to trade my Oneplus One. I'm meeting a guy on Friday. How should I go about wiping the phone before I trade it off.
I am currently running cm11s with Francos latest kernel. I want to give him the phone bone stock so be doesn't have any issues with OTA's.
Would flashing Caulkins stock rooted rom be OK? Then wiping data and then formatting internal SD card? Any other advice would be great? Thanks, Gregg

I really didnt want to mess with ADB. All im really worried about is making sure that none of my data is going to linger. As long as the phone is on stock and he can recieve the OTA's , thats all Im worried about.
Bump for another opinion.
The opinion that you received from @aboicu is correct. Whether or not you want to mess with adb is irrelevant. You need to.

I knew that. I was just hoping for an easier option. I've only used adb once and that was rooting my oneplus one. Thanks!

Adb/fastboot can be a bit daunting at first, but the more you use it the more confident you'll be.
You've rooted your phone, so you know already how to begin the whole process. Only the commands are different. But hey, you can use the automated process from the link I've pointed to. Read carefully, it's not complicated at all
Thanks for the help guys. But it looks like the trade is off. I texted the guy last night and asked him if he was OK meeting at a local t-mobile store and he pretty much freaked out on me. He went on about hating carrier stores and how t-mobile might force him to buy one of their phones, and locking up his phone. That it was false security doing the trade there. So no trade for me.
There seems to be no possible way to root a Verizon HTC device now. I'm trying to root my M8 and every avenue I've tried, it's apparently impossible.
Sunshine didn't work.
Everyone says weak sauce no longer works.
HTCdev site didn't work.
I always run into the fact that I can't S-Off.
So... Is there now no possible way to root a Verizon HTC M8?
The main reason I want to root is for battery life. I'm desperate. I want the old battery saver feature back, that Verizon removed in the Marshmallow update. Losers. Why you eliminate such a helpful tool from a phone escapes me. Utter nonsense.
So, now I'm faced with the decision. Root my M8, or buy a new phone. Thing is, I'm not ready to upgrade. But I can't seem to find a way to root!
If anyone can offer ANY help here, I would be greatly, greatly, appreciative. My M8's battery is not what it used to be.
Are you trying to s-off or root? Root doesn't require s-off
If you are trying to get back to lollipop (since you don't seem happy with MM), s-off is required.
Sunshine worked fine for me, what error are you getting?
For Verizon M8, sunshine is your only real option unless you find someone in your area with a javacard. Htcdev and weaksauce won't work.

Well, I first tried the dev site. Went through all the steps and then it said I had to do the whole s-off procedure, but I wasn't able to because Verizon doesn't allow it anymore supposedly.
So then I tried Sunshine. It essentially ran the temp boot, my phone reboots, and then... Nothing. Nothing happens. I go back to sunshine and it just restarts all the tests again and asks for a temp root. Going in circles basically...
I'm lost. But there's got to be a way...
I'd rather not have to go back to 5.1, because I like have Sense 7 with MM. But if I can't root and am faced with no other option, I will entertain the idea. At the end of the day, my battery life is more important to me than themes or just about anything else.
You can send it off to someone with a Java Card like us VZW M9 members have done/are doing.
Here is the thread, the OP shows a map where the ppl are located, you may get lucky and be able to meet someone.

I suppose this confirms it then: there really is no way to root a Verizon M8. Least ways, not without some special 'card'.

I just confirmed that there is..
Up until about a month ago Sunshine worked.
MM just came out, you never want to take an OTA if you aren't rooted and don't know if the new OTA is rootable.
My suggestion is to just send it out.
I did it with my M9.
It's 100% worth it, you will be rooted and S-OFF with bootloader unlocked all the goodies, all the guys are great, usually get it done and sent back out the same day. You pay for shipping to and from and they can't charge so you toss them a "donation".

Do you know if there is a way to enable power saver mode? Verizon disabled it, and I really want it back. Anyway to re-enable after root?

Flash a rom that supports it or find the Android shell command that enables it. I have seen it posted a couple times. The only direct way I know of requires a wipe.
