New to forum, can't seem to find exact answer I'm looking for - General Questions and Answers

I have an att note 3 that I want to upgrade to stock lollipop.
1. Which rom do I need for my specific device?
2. If that rom is available, where can I get it?
3. If it is available, which slot in Odin is the correct one to use? I noticed that some roms use bl, ap etc, assuming I read that correctly before.
I've used odin before but used the ap slot for what I was doing then.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Download and extract this file...boot your device to download mode and flash using odin...if there's just one file after extraction...use the AP slot. If there are 4 files, they would have the corresponding prefixes like BL, Modem, etc

Thank you so very much. I've been messing with this phone for a week trying to find any stock rom in order to return this phone to factory then hopefully not have the ota update fail. Not only have I now accomplished that but hey, I didn't have to run the ota!!
The rom you linked to worked perfectly. Agian, thank you.

Need help

I read on another thread here on this site and was going to ask this question there but since I don't have enough posts.
I know how to Use ODIN to flash my Samsung Epic back to stock. However, I have upgraded to 2.2 by placing the update.zip file on the root memory card and upgraded by booting into recovery mode.
My question is can I use Odin to flash it back to stock or will it screw something up?
Oh well
since no one knows the answer I guess I will just try and see if it screws up my phone..
You need to get a special version of Odin called "One Click to Stock". It's been specially modified to flash a stock AT&T ROM to your phone with (as expected) just one click.
thank you
I appreciate the response. I used the standard ODIN, PIT and TAR files and was able to return to stock with the latest release. It seems to have worked because it downloaded updates immediately. Thank you again for the response.

Help for bricked Samsung Armani I9010 - firmware problem

Hello guys!
I need you help, I've Giorgio Armani Galaxy S I-9010 and I was trying to update the firmware. There was 2.2 on it and I wanted to update to 2.3.5 which is the latest official for Galaxy's.
Anyway; it's my first Android phone, that's why I didn't know how to do that. So I started to play with Odin, Samfirmware etc. As you could easily guess; now my phone is BRICKEd and I can not use that.
Now I need your help and directions. Otherwise I'll have to throw my lovely phone away. I want to restore all the factory firmware and settings back so I installed from samfirmware.com -all the necessary files. I got I9010XXKB2 file which has GT-I9010-CSC-MULTI-OXA902407.tar and I9010XXKB2-REV00-ALL-low-CL909299.tar. And I also have GA3_add_hidden.pit file.
As I read forums, I need to put I9010XXKB2-REV00-ALL-low-CL909299.tar and GA3_add_hidden.pit to Odin and it should have worked but always gives errors. I tried different combinations, I installed older version of Odin as well but can not do!
Also Odin has other parts such as PDA-PHONE-CSC etc. In that case, I use PIT and PDA options, not CSC and PHONE. Because I downloadad latest firmware from samsfirmware and there were only 2 files in zip.
Other than that; in that zip file, in that case again, I use I9010XXKB2-REV00-ALL-low-CL909299.tar and other file; GT-I9010-CSC-MULTI-OXA902407.tar -where do I have to put that?
AS you see, I don't know too much and I need to be directed. Could you please help me about that guys? I 'really' need that! Thanks in advance

Enabling Wifi calling... then unrooting!

Hi Everyone,
Forgive me if I'm duplicating any threads, I don't THINK that I am as I've been scouring for a neat solution to this and not quite got there yet.
So I'm performing a simple mod for a mate of mine on his S6 (Sm-G920F), which he bought unlocked, but is using on EE. Wifi calling isn't enabled on non EE Firmwares, which has cropped up a few times on here, but it's easy enough to enable.
Basically I rooted the phone (no pingpong for it yet so used CF-Autoroot via odin), and then thanks to tiboric's handy post on hidden S6 features (cheers dude), I edited system/csc/others.xml to include the line - <CscFeature_Setting_SupportWifiCall>TRUE</CscFeature_Setting_SupportWifiCall> then enabled Wifi Calling in the phone app settings
This worked like a charm, sent my mate his phone back and all is right in the world...UNTIL he calls me saying that he want's to use a particular paid sport streaming service which detects his phone is rooted and blocks access.
Now I like a challenge, and it doesn't sound beyond the wit of man so I get the device back and try a few things...
1) Remove root via Super SU, rip the unrooted recovery and cache img files from the stock firmware, create my own md5 and flash via Odin.... Flashes but bootloops
2) Flash the stock firmware, create a flashable zip containing a modified others.xml, boot into recovery, flash update via adb... Flashes but bootloops
3) Download the stock EE firmware...Won't flash from Odin
4) Scour the web for a non rooted S6 ROM with Wifi Calling enabled.. So far no joy!
I reckon I must have missed something, anybody had any joy with either an alternate way to enable Wifi Calling or an "Unroot" method that doesn't require a total wipe? Any nudge in the right direction much appreciated at this point.
Cheers
Smuj
All you have to do is flash a PIT file which lets you have flash the large hidden.img in the branded EE files. That is what I did and I am on stock and un-rooted.
Wrong forum.
Thanks Rekan_ Any chance you can link me to the guide/sources you used?

Flash this in the PIT section of your Odin, this will DELETE everything. Then with the PIT file, flash the EE Branded Firmware and it will flash properly.
If that PIT file doesn't work, try this PIT file, I did both but cannot remember which one worked.
Hmmmm, Still got a nand write fail with both of those pit files. Did you flash G920FXXU1AOCY_G920FEVR1AOC1_G920FXXU1AOCW_HOME.tar.md5 ?
Hi guys
Anyone get this working I'm on a unlocked o2 s6
Please let me know
Thanks

Upgrading and custom ROM support

Hello, I purchased a new SM-G900P off ebay out of China which came rooted with KitKat installed. I can only assume they put this ROM on to make it universal. It's worked well in general, but I have been having some annoyances with it lately, particularly when related to roaming and some chinese characters that just persist (the CSC codes are CHN and TGY). I would like to upgrade to Lollipop and install one of the custom ROMs that look to be awesome.
My question is: how do I deal with this phone? I can't tell if a recovery is already installed. Can I wipe the phone and upgrade to Lollipop? Should I remove and re-initiate the root access? I am new to android but I've done a ton of reading and I'm quite tech savvy, so if someone can point me in the right direction I would be very appreciative!!
Bump. Even someone pointing me to a link as a starting point would be really helpful!
Cheers.
I'd use Odin to flash to a lollipop/mm stock image. And reroot/install a custom recovery yourself and start completely fresh.
i agree with @InsanePostman. If its an actual g900p (i only say it that way because some chinese products can be cleverly made knock-offs) then get the OK4 tar.md5 and Odin and flash the tar.md5 in the AP slot of odin.
Stock OK4 image
Odin
heres a good thread on a different site showing how to use odin to flash a stock image
and chainfires autoroot
Thanks guys, I'm going to give this a shot tonight. I have confirmed it is a genuine g900p so I'll start with flashing a stock image. Is there some way I can backup my current ROM should anything go wrong I can restore to that?
Install twrp and make a backup. Otherwise as long as you can get to download mode, then you always fine barring the lack of computer or tarball

Just wanted to say thanks, this worked great! Nice to have Lollipop installed now. I'm in Canada and with this stock Sprint ROM I might look at installing some of the custom ROMs instead to get rid of the SPRINT apps and stuff. Thanks again for the support!
Right on man! Be sure to hit the thanks button when people helped!!

Help with soft-bricked non-rooted Samsung S7

First of all thank you for taking the time to read this. I've been struggling with this for a while and I hope we can resolve it somehow.
So here's what's been going on:
My Samsung S7 was an absolute mess for a few weeks, battery life was absolutely miserable (died 10 seconds after unplugging it from charger) but I just assumed it needed a battery replacement.
I've never attempted to root, flash or mess with my device in anyway, not after this issue has already occurred. One day I pull out my phone to check something and it's dead again, okay. nothing out of the usual.
I tried to turn it on and it would get stuck on the Samsung logo. I tried plugging it in and just leaving it and it would stay stuck on the Samsung logo forever. Please note at this point I have not tampered with my devices hardware or software yet.
I tried downloading odin and downloading stock ROMs from somewhere but that didn't work.
My phone is NOT rooted, USB debugging is NOT enabled.
The phone contains a lot of my stuff and I would prefer not to lose them. I was wondering if there was a way for me to retrieve my stuff before factory resetting it or throwing the thing away. The phone itself means nothing to me. I just want what's on it.
Any kind of help is appreciated, I really wanna get to the bottom of this. Thanks in advance to everyone.
How far into the Odin flash did you get? Because a stock flash still wipes data if you use all firmware files.
If you can get into recovery try the wipe cache partition option, this won't wipe any user data but might fight the boot issue.
If you can still get into download mode try flashing the BL and CP firmware files for your model/region/carrier/version and nothing else via Odin. Again flashing just these won't wipe, but may fix issues.
I'd recommend reading his guide before using Odin https://updato.com/how-to/how-to-install-an-official-samsung-stock-firmware-using-odin
When downloading firmware I'd recommend using a firmware resource like updato, sammobile or here on xda
Without USB debug and root you're limited in the tricks you can do to get the phone in a state to transfer files.

I'm not entirely sure how far I got. I followed a tutorial that said to flash the BL files but I'm not entirely sure if it worked or not considering my phone wasn't rooted/didn't have USB debugging and didn't restart or fix the issue. I got the files from updato. I've tried wiping the cache partition but that didn't seem to fix it. I haven't tried flashing any CP on there as I didn't know what that was but I will try to do that today.
Should I flash new BL files and try again, and what are CP files/where do I obtain them? Thank you so much for your help.
If you get the firmware from updato, or sammobile it should come with 5 files: AP, CP, BL, CSC and Home CSC all in one zip.
I would say try flashing CP and BL from the zip, and for Odin flashing you don't need USB debugging or root etc. You just need to be in download mode.
So try putting the CP and BL files into Odin and flashing, the newer version the better, but anything thats the same as your android version i.e. if you're on Nougat than any Nougat BL should work

So I got the firmware, the most recent I could find that matched my region/carrier etc. I ran it through Odin and it seemed to have worked. Odin said it passed and the phone restarted.
Then it showed that it was applying system updates or something. But then it stopped. It showed the android guy laying down and the words "No command" I tried figuring out how to resolve this but I couldn't find anything that could be done without having USB debugging already enabled. I can't think of anything else to try and I'm running out of options. If you have any more ideas I'd really appreciate it. It seems like such a waste to give up now when the phone is only soft-bricked and not completely useless.
Only extra steps I can think of will save the phone but lose the data
