Samsung Pay on the Gear LTE requires it on the phone also - Samsung Gear S3

From the AT&T user manual...
Note: You must first register cards to Samsung Pay on your connected smartphone. For more information, refer to the mobile device’s user manual.
So no Samsung phone, no Samsung Pay on your Gear because Samsung Pay currently doesn't work on anything but flagship-class Samsung phones.

Thanks for the information, that's what I was very curious about.

With no disrespect intended, are you posting this based on personal experience? I'm asking because there's a lot of speculation, based on conflicting information posted online, and we're now (hopefully today) at the point where we should be able to get first hand accounts.

I have spoken with Samsung via chat. Picked up my watch this am. Chat guy says the Samsung pay app for non-Samsung phones will be released next week. He said it will show up in the gear app.

I am...I have a pixel xl and note 5. Samsung pay works well with the note, but does not show up on the pixel.

Seriously? A chat with a minimum wage CSR that's likely in an Asian offshore call center? The same CSR's that have no idea about today's launch delivery schedule? What I posted was right out of AT&T's Gear S3 LTE user manual. I'd go with that over a chat with a CSR.
That said, if Samsung is launching Samsung Pay for non-Samsung phones app that's a whole different discussion. When/if that happens certain TBD non-Samsung phones can provide the tethering support necessary for Samsung Pay to work on the Gear. When/if is a big deal though. Samsung Pay for the Gear S2 was announced when it was launched. It took a year for it to be released. Hopefully Samsung Pay for non-Samsung phones doesn't suffer the same fate timing wise. It's kind of an interesting model when/if it comes to be. A NFC only Pixel owner with Samsung Pay installed could suddenly have MST access via their Gear in a gazillion more places. That can't make Google who is pushing Android Pay very happy.
But the reality is, until a non-Samsung phone Android Samsung Pay app is launched, Samsung Pay on the Gear S3 won't work without a Samsung flagship phone associated with it.

Breathe. It'll be OK.
No one says it's currently working I've asked multiple people and get the same answer. Take it for what it's worth. Multiple tweets from @samsungpayus say the same thing.
If it's only NFC and MST then oh well, buy something else if you're not satisfied.

There is a Samsung Pay app in the Gear App that is separate from the Samsung Pay app that runs on a Samsung smartphone. I can't say whether or not it works on non-Samsung phones because I have a Galaxy S7 but it is definitely a separate app. (I had to register my card in it, even though the card was already registered in the Samsung Pay app on my phone.)

AT&T Gear s2 Pre-Orders Start Friday November 5th

Well seems like AT&T is the last to the party (Except Sprint) to drop the Gear S2, Pre-Orders start the day Verizon will have it available to actually purchase, kind of a stupid move considering a good portion of people aren't really worried about a 2 year contract. I'm on AT&T and already have the 2-year on my Gear S which I am about to suspend, and not renew with the S2, all i want is a speaker, so I can grab one from Verizon November 6th or wait 2 more weeks for the same product from AT&T, if AT&T is who dropped on the ball on this, it wasn't a good move I'm assuming most people like me will just grab a Verizon model for that speaker capability.
But then again, while waiting for the S2 with the speaker on it, I grabbed another BT model and have grown too attached to it, might not even bother with the 3G at this point.
Thoughts?
3G model all the way for me. Speaker and GPS are too useful for me to settle for the bluetooth model.

will the 3G model work on non Samsung phones?
thanks
I'm pretty sure, I don't think the open phone thing was just for the BT model, it's the same software with a few tweaks to accommodate the speaker and phone capabilities.
I called samsung, and they said it should work too, but you never know with their "chinglish" speaking customer service folks..

Samsung is based out of South Korea...not China
Wondering the same thing myself. They never said will only work with Samsung phones, but we are missing some phone hooks on the BT version, like answering a call - we can only reject. And missing the email app, and the Messages app (mostly). And weather won't automatically update. Just saying...
I've been using the Classic version for a week now and am loving the design. Being able to change straps to ceramic or other leather bands is more important to me than the speaker or GPS. Also, the lighter weight and thinner profile are just as important for my wrist.
I'm sticking to my Classic.
too bad there wont be a classic 3G...

Samsung has said there is a 3G Classic is coming and more expensive versions are as well. The time-frame is unknown though.
talked to AT&T today and they said it will be available on the 20th. There will be a floor model sample available on friday.
t mobile told me today that preorders will start on the 10th; I was surprised, since they had said earlier that there were no pre orders..
ah, who to believe...
I am torn. Don't know if I want this or the LG Urbane 2nd Edition LTE? I have been using the Gear S2 for the past couple of weeks and do like it. I especially like the bezel navigation. But man, apps are sooooo freaking limited, as are watch faces. ATT is selling both for the exact same price. Thoughts?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
no comparison; the rotating bezel on the Samsung makes all other smart watches obsolete..
pre-ordered mine this evening. they said it should ship on the 19th or 20th. maybe earlier.
Go to an at&t store to see it in person before you buy. It is far more hideous (to me) than I thought possible. And this coming from someone who REALLY wants the speaker. It is so unsightly that I may just return my (much loved) S2, and stick with my AW Gear Live, until Samsung comes out with an S3.

Nailed it, except I love the S2 with or without the speaker so it was easy to just say screw it and keep my S2 BT version because I already love it. The added thicknessof the 3G model is just too much, and I really really really wanted the 3G model, I was disappointed but got over it quickly when I looked down at my wrist and saw this great looking thin functional smartwatch that easily passes for a normal watch (finally!) I'll live without the speaker, I have so far, I'll miss it but before I know it I'll forget about it.

Reactivaton Lock Bypass

has anyone figured out how to bypass the reactivation lock code yet? i purchased an open box gear s2 and there isnt another in stock.
If you purchased your open box S2 at Best Buy, the Samsung Reps in the store should know how to do this. I bought an open box S2 at BB and had a discussion with the Sammy Rep that was in the store. He said that after the first week of selling the S2 this problem was realized (people were locking and returning their Gears) and that Sammy had sent instructions to their reps on what to do.

I have been in contact with samsung support and they said that they can't do anything, that my support has to come from BB. The problem is that my 15 warranty days have already passed. Any suggestion?

Go to the BB and talk to the Samsung Reps (if your BB has a Samsung display area, my local BB has a large area full of Samsung displays and actual Samsung Reps that work in it). I wouldn't worry about the 15 days, just go to BB and see what they can do. Tell them it was a present and you just opened it. They really don't want you to go away mad. They want you to be a return customer especially if you are buying $300 items.
Good Luck

Samsung pay

Got my s7 today on Sprint and I seen Samsung's running a promotion if you sign up for Samsung pay they give you a voucher for a free wieless charger. But when I go to download the app that tells me in the App Store that my device is not compatible anybody have any info on this?
I think the Samsung Pay app is pre-loaded on the phone. I think there was an update through the Play Store recently to support gift cards though.
I have the Verizon version and I have the same problem. Pay is not preloaded on the phone and when I go to the Store to get it, it tells me that Samsung Pay is compatible with my S6 but not the S7. WTF Samsung? I am hoping that this is just because the Play Store hasn't caught up with the release of the phone. I was worried that it was just Verizon being Verizon again.
Don't bother with the free charger promo. Even though the promo was supposed to be good through 3-10-2016, the app is reporting that they have "sold out" of the wireless charging pads and to check back soon for other promotions. I can also confirm that the Samsung pay app is pre loaded onto the AT&T S7, but I think I read somewhere that Verizon is only supporting Android Pay at this time and not Samsung pay. Maybe I am wrong about that?
Samsung pay is live in Google play now for Verizon phones.
38 new banks and credit unions are now supported
How is the situation in Germany?I have not seen any information about samsung pay in Germany.

4 days from launch and nothing from VZW...

I'm chomping at the bit to pre-order. I'm having surgery Friday and don't want to miss getting one that day.
Any rumors on the Frontier LTE version?

VZW took a particularly harsh view of the Note7 incident and was active in its demise. I'd imagine their relationship with Samsung is strained.
Top executives from major telecoms operators, including Verizon Communications Inc.’s Lowell McAdam, [VZW CEO] urged Mr. Lee [Interim Head of Samsung] to quickly kill the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone, according to people familiar with the matter. The executives told Mr. Lee the smartphone was becoming increasingly unsalable.
On Oct. 11, Mr. Lee called Mr. Koh [Samsung Mobile chief] and ordered him to discontinue the smartphone. Later that day, Mr. Koh wrote a letter to the company’s mobile division, a copy of which was reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, calling the crisis “one of the toughest challenges we have ever faced.”
I'm starting to doubt Verizon will have these on the shelves this Friday. None of their employees will answer questions regarding its availability. So either Verizon just sucks at marketing or they have been told not to say anything about the item, probably due to the post above me concerning the Note 7...
It has been announced that T-Mobile will have them this Friday.
I still have the UDP. That means it will cost me $35 a month to add this device to my plan. I'm wondering if there's any benefit to getting it from a different carrier? I could link via Bluetooth to my S7 edge when using them together.

The Gear doesn't have to be on the same carrier as your phone to use the auto-forward (calls and texts) feature that's a component of Gear Manager. You won't have one number but only AT&T currently offers it when both phone and wearable/tablet are on their network. The only difference between the two when phone/Gear aren't BT connected is calls and text sent to your phone and forwarded show your Gear's discrete phone number when you reply. Your Gear would also have its own separate VM in that scenario. Auto-forwarding is more battery friendly as one number has the Gear's phone line active all the time.

For those not on a postpaid plan where a wearable line can be added. T-Mobile has the cheapest standalone plan, at $15/mo. AT&T and Verizon charge $35 and $40, respectively.

I looked around the T-Mo site, couldn't find a $15 plan. What do you get with it?
Also, when using the Gear app to forward do I have to set it up every time I leave w/o the phone or does it stay forwarded with the option of answering from my handset?
I had a chat session with each of carriers to determine the cost of putting a smartwatch on their cheapest standalone plan it's eligible for. While the S3 isn't available yet, it isn't theoretical because they sell other smartwatches that use a SIM (ie. LG Urbane). AT&T and Verizon put them on a smartphone plan (hence the high cost), while T-Mobile has a plan specific to wearables.
I can't speak about how call forwarding is handled by the Gear app. As a Google Voice user, its a non issue.☺

How I got a free Gear S3 Frontier w/LTE from AT&T

I come on here a lot and don't contribute much, but just had to share this with this community. I got a free Samsung Gear S3 Frontier from AT&T by .... JUST ASKING!
I'm serious guys...it took 3 calls to customer service, and I'm a longtime AT&T customer (since 2004), but when I called customer service and asked about how I could get the Gear S3 at a nice price since it was around the Black Friday period (I made the call on 11/22 around 7 am EST), the customer service lady I spoke to said that I could actually get the watch for free if I committed to a 2 year commitment of $10/month. I asked her to repeat that to make sure I heard her correctly and she said yes, they normally offer things like that when you get a new device, but they have ways around that requirement to get a free gadget and even offered me a free tablet (for the same $10/month access). I got the tablet too initially, and then cancelled it since I didn't need a tablet to be connected the way I use them and already have a better one. The watch actually came on Saturday (11/26) via UPS and I've been loving it...especially since it will only cost me $240 AND I still get the opportunity to use it as a standalone and can cancel that monthly access after 2 years to save myself the money. I don't know if anyone else will be able to get the nice customer service lady I got, but she mentioned that there are lots of free gadgets they offer and if you know how to manipulate things, you can get one yourself.
Good luck everyone and happy holidays.

Sweet, you got a great deal.
I got mine from T-Mobile on release day. I paid full retail for it, but I added it onto a line that was free. They were offering early Black Friday deals on that day. Actually you could get 2 lines free. I did, I put the Gear on one line, and I put a SyncUp ( a gps tracker and wifi hotspot unit that plugs into your cars diagnostic port) unit on the other line, the Sync Up was also provided for free, I just had to pay the sales tax.

I did not do quite as well as you, but the CSR I spoke with on the first try said that if you commit to the 2 year service agreement, they will sell you the watch for $49.95. Still an amazing deal. Signed up and the watch should be here tomorrow. In my case they also waived the activation fee. It never hurts to ask. He did tell me that the Gear S2 is free with the service commitment.
Happy Holidays to all.

Yup! . I purchased a new Galaxy S7 Edge, got a free VR headseat and the S3 Frontier LTE for $50. No contract with the phone or the watch. The phone I'm paying in installments, but the watch was a flat $50 (no installment) with no contract. I'm thinking about cancelling my LTE service for my watch. Don't find it useful, since I always carry my phone and watch.
Just ordered one. The Samsung S3 Frontier is still FREE at AT&T if you just ASK. They waived the activation fee of $45. There's a 2yr contract and you pay $10 for the line that comes with a 1gb of data.
