Battery Experiment - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note5

This battery i ordered cost 8 dollars and is 3800 mah plus free shipping. The "stock oem" cost the same and is 3000 mah

Decided 2 test 2 more. The 4000 is from china. Oem is from china also. I will use 2 different apps to test thes3 batteries also

The whole reason is this. I noticed my phone taking a bit longer to charge now and battery draining faster. Its been a year since i got the phone
I did a 97% fast charge and this is how much energy i got

so i had no luck removing the glass with a sucction cup following this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j23exUFwslw
but i was able to replace the battery. discharing now to test true mAh. if its not 3800 like gold promised i will open ebay case
And i turned up brightness and gps. Kinda hard to drain now compared to stock battery

So testinf the gold i got these results. I did battery repair and calacration. First thing i noticed right away is the battery is lastinf a lot longer

Ouch. RIP back glass. We may all have to eventually try to replace the battery so any tips on where you went wrong on the back would be helpful too. Glad to see the battery worked and is at rated specs. They are often lower than the specs written on the battery.

If you ever have to open the back of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 again to replace the battery or anything else first buy a heating gun and a laser temperature gage and then heat the back edges of the glass up(not in the center) to about 190-200 degrees Fahrenheit but do not exceed 212 degrees Fahrenheit and always keep it in motion don't ever stop and just direct the heat into 1 spot because it'll burn easily since most of them start at 500 Fahrenheit and go all the way to 1000 Fahrenheit.. after heating the glue around the edges up use your pry tools and playing cards to slowly push them through the glue and if you have to heat it up again which you probably will just do it... The 1 major thing needed for this job is patience and work slowly.. There's no need to rush!

This should help others with the glass I've done it many times and it works really good as long as you have patience and don't be rough with it.

Can I ask how that 4000 mAh battery from China worked out for you? Was it better than the original and does fast charge still work with it?

First clear up. The gold 3800 for 7.89 isnt 3800. It tested out at 2100. I got 4 dollar refund because its 55% less what promised. But im usint it right now because it last longer than my stock battery. My stock also measured at 2100 due to degradetion. But this gold battery discharges a lot slower. The 3200 battery shouls be here friday and the 4000 battery from china should be here around 20 days. And i just got a regular hair dryer, was afarid of over heating so i cut a small hole and forced the flat head in cracking everything. An oem reppacement is 15 dollars, but a generic with no galaxy note 5 on it cost around 8. Also what is the point of the glass back if the phone is kept in a case the whole time

And i recalabrated the battery twice. That fixed the surprise battery %. Where you get to 0 and turn on phone its 15% or where it says 98% and jumped to 80%. Calabrating fixed it and yes fast charge is working normal

Where are you finding oem replacements at? I've been searching all over and even bought 1 from ebay claiming it was an oem front glass and low and behold it's not oem it's totally aftermarket and the color doesn't even match so it's not going on my phone!!

Thanks for the tips MrMike2182

I seen the same one in mine too.. What I'm interested in is a battery that's going to last longer than the 3,000mAh one did.

The 3200 battery arrived and is installed. It came with 70% charged. Gonna calabrate it and then discharge to 0 to do the mah charging test

Promises 5 hour screen time. Already noticing its taking longer to go from 100 to 99 and still stuck at 99

Didnt charge yet, but 2 early to tell. So far this battery seems note 3200 either but few more discharges to see if anything changes

My Note 5 3,000mAh battery is currently at 82% charge and says 5 hours SOT left. I usually do get between 7 and 9 hours SOT with all of my settings the way they are and nothing is running that shouldn't be and all carrier junk is removed or disabled! I would be curious to see what a 4,000mAh would do with my settings..

Ok this 3200 battery discharged 2800mah. Maybe it will go up to 3200 after 5 discharges like it says but right now another battery as not advertised. Waiting on the 4000 from china

This is kind of why I hate crap from China because they advertise 4000mAh and in reality it's only a 2800 or 3000 just wrapped up in a different way to make it seem better.. I think the 4000 is just going to be junk too.

Anker Battery great success

http://www.amazon.com/Anker-1600mAh...9A/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1318871003&sr=8-15
Bought it and my battery life is very good now, I can actually power use my phone without worried about battery. I played fruit ninja and played music via 3g with the speakers for more than an hour and loss like 15% percent battery. Went to bed with the battery at 12% and when I woke up it was at 8%. I can't get you any technical specs but the battery is alot better than stock, and for the price you can't go wrong.
Bought these batteries but after pretty extensive testing, I've got to say that any actual difference is marginal at best. Battery Monitor Widget measures them at nearly the same capacity as the original...the best figure it gave was ~1300mAh but accounting for the % error that's likely a bit overstated. Bottom line...you get two batteries on par w/ stock for a good price...just don't expect any real performance difference between a new stock battery and an Anker.
I too purchased this set of anker batteries and charger. But picked up on ebay for even less from the same amazon dealer. Also I needed the charger to charge batteries for older phones that used a proprietory charger that I didn't have. My stock HTC battery just wasn't keeping up after only a few months old. Maybe it says something for the quality of the OEM battery. Who knows. But after 2 weeks of using one of these batteries the difference is still night and day for me. Charge lasts much longer than my 6 month old OEM battery. Whether they are better/worse than a NEW OEM battery I can't say. But for the price and after running one for 2 weeks I definitely give them 2 thumbs up.
I highly doubt these are 1600 mah, it's probably closer to the stock battery.
You guys are comparing a heavily used stock battery to these new ones. What you should be comparing is a new stock battery vs these and you'd probably end up seeing very little difference.
I agree, I bought the same batteries and I wouldnt say the power was what I expected. I wouldnt say they are worth the price, rather just practice good battery management with the proper settings over the battery.

That or have a charger handy at all times lol.

Well I just got them for Christmas (gosh I love ordering my own gifts from time to time Haha) and Will give a review after I charge one up tonight and give it a few days use. I can say that I got this phone in March and battery monitor widget consistently measures actual capacity between 986 and 1081 mAh. So OEM battery durability seems to be pretty crappy. Fingers crossed for the new ones!
Also, the stock battery in the last month has still been awful with the battery management technique of "put it on the table and do something else while leaving it in idle mode with data connection off"
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
News is good! This battery tests at around 1500 mAh, as expected short of the advertised 1600, but far better than the older stock battery! After 5 hrs 5 mins on battery with fairly light use, I have 83% battery left.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
I got one of those on the 25th too. The first couple of days were moderatly light use until I got home from work. Then it was more. Got 26+/- hours out of each charge. Lots better than stock battery that was down to 5% usually after a 10 hr day with the same amount of usage
I wonder how the performance of the battery last over time. As in does the quality compare to that of the stock? So far my stock battery has a charge of about 8 hours on a good charge with moderate use anand its about a year old. How do these compare?
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using XDA App
We shall know in a few weeks/months/Kardashians (you know, 72 days). We will keep you posted man! As terrible as quality was on stock, I don't see how it could get much worse. This battery peaks out aroun 27 degrees Celsius when charging during use and stock would hit 34 degrees consistently.
Have to report that my Anker batteries are still doing great. Battery monitor still reporting both around 1475. I find myself not charging the battery overnight sometimes since I still have a decent charge left. And as someone mentioned it isn't fair to compair these new batteries to a failing stock battery. Stock battery was ONLY 7 months old (not good at all). It too is made in china. You can purchase 2 anker batteries and a universal charger for half the price of an oem replacement battery. Never expected the anker batteries to be 1600. How about someone with a fairly new oem battery and using battery monitor report the mAh they get.

As from previous experience, It is not a big deal if they are less than 1600mah, so is the case of OEM batteries.
Or a quick Google search will show batteries with much less capacity selling for a lot more.

mine is what i would consider fairly new and battery moniter reports the total mah to be 1230mAh stock OEM htc battery that came with my inspire and i get usually a day and half out of normal use
I have had my batteries for about 2 1/2 months now. Still getting 1470 on average out of each. I switch them every 2 weeks just to keep them fresh.
Great news, I'll be buying these batteries soon then
Just got these myself yesterday. Granted I've only had them one day they have been great and are equal if not better than my original battery. Again this is only after one day use so hopefully it stays the same.
But so far I have 4.25 hours of on-screen time
30 min of GPS with imapmyrun
30 min of Pandora(for my run)
Total time: 1day 2 hours and have about 7 percent left
Wifi and GPS were always on even when not in use. Regular setup of gmail, and yahoo to push my emails
I hope you guys are aware of how lithium ion's work... which these are. I'm positive someone has already said this in some other section, but it should be known as this applies to practically all phones.
Deep discharging frequently will damage the batteries, best not to run these batteries all the way down just because you can....
Heat will kill the batteries quicker than just about anything you throw at it. When you guys deep discharge and have a prolonged recharging time the phone does get hot, also leaving the phone/battery in a hot summer car... well...
Time is another issue. The batteries degrade with time/age, whether you use them or not. If a seller is selling you a "new" battery that's been sitting on their shelf for a couple of years, you're going to get a gimped battery despite it being "new".
I recently got a couple of these batteries, charged them with the wall charger then when i put them into phone, didn't work phone saw them as at 0% and switched off , (yes made sure i put them in the right way.)

Note 4 Anker battery

How are you guys feeling about this battery? I decided to try it out, back when I had the GS3 I bought one of those 9000mah batteries and it was an extremely rare day that I went below 50% battery, so I went for the 6000mah anker battery here since it is cheaper.
I definitely feel like it has extended life, but it feels like it's only about 50% better as opposed to 100% longer life. I can usually make it to the end of the day now, whereas before I was putting it on the charger when I'd get home from work every day.
It all depends on the use of the phone. I know people that make 3 days use with Zerolemon and some make 18 hrs.

Im thinking the same!
I want to buy the replacement battery for note 4 3220mah , they say they have stronger cells!
Anyone can confirm this? Any comparisons with stock samsung battery
After LP update BOC5 my battery life is decreased , atm i am at 42% with 3hours and 6 minutes of SOT with a total of 8hours
Also if i root it and greenify some sh!t will i see big difference?

I bought the 2 ankar batteries that a rotate with the OEM. they are very good and worth the money.
only complaint would be there is a plastic piece on the bottem of the battery that locks it into place. I left it in my car a couple time and it melted and fell off. so now on one of the batterys it fits loose and sometime makes my phone reboot from being knocked around. but i added some tape to the bottem and it fixed the lock and i dont have the problem anymore. it only happened with one of the batteries.

Question about battery choices

I have an AT&T Note 4 and need to figure out a battery option. My current battery is showing signs of dying.
1) Replace with OEM Samsung: Keep the current one as a back up.
2) Buy the Anker deal with 2 batteries and charger: Basically just rotate all three batteries through usage. I'd have to get a new case that was easier to take off to swap batteries consistently.
3) Buy a bigger/extended life battery and deal with the fact that my percentage indicator will never be accurate. (Unless I can temp root to calibrate??)
Thoughts? I'll probably keep this phone AT LEAST until the end of this year.

Ill be totally honest with you, i have tried all three options
And picked up a ibestwin 10000mah battery half the price of the zerolemon
Very impressed im on around 10hours sot from 6am this morning its now past midnight. Phone is saying still 25percent
I reckom there all the same batteries basically 3 standed batterys in one case...
The case isnt as good as the zerolemom but its sleeker and slimmer.
Anker have a good write up but its just a pain waiting for your battery to die etc
Let me know what you do...
Im llcurrently looking for a way to calibrate my battery.
The app on here is for exynos only

I'm reading all sorts of mixed messages about calibrating battery. Some people say that cycling will calibrate. I've had the Anker before and cycled it multiple times and in now way was I getting the correct %. I could go to 50%, reboot and get back to 65%. Go down to 10%, reboot, and go back to 30%.
Is battery calibration, while stock, a myth?
I think that's rubbish too but I can guarantee you the cheapest zero lemon battery I mention will last you all day
There is a zerolemon full gauge fix, i can post the link if you wsnant. Its also for other 10.000mah batterys and seems mostly accurate, changes the capacity for the phone that it will think the real mah or something like that. Its implented in custom kernels like the emotion kernel give it a try, nothing to lost if your phone is rooted. I have used a 6440mah seidio an the "battery widget" app worked for me to be accurate, its also in the
3c toolbox, try it if you want, dont know if this function need root :s

In my country, if you are still under the warranty you can get a new battery right away in the Samsung Service Center.
At least try that first before the second & third option.

OEM battery

Hey guys I replaced my 6p battery with an eBay unit that's clearly not an oem replacement. It does the job so far however whenever I'm outside in the cold this thing drops to zero in a matter of minutes. I'm thinking it's probably because it's a cheap Chinese knockoff. You guys know of any places where I can source an OEM replacement battery
Thank you
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
I wasn't able to find one. Ordered several that said they were OEM but when they arrived they were some knockoffs. Huawei ended up replacing mine despite being out of warranty.
I haven;t been able to find a genuine battery either. Some randomly turn the phone off. Some have no temperature sensor so there's potential for overheating. One of them wouldn't charge past 93%. On the positive side, I am a pro at opening this phone up now. Kind of miss having 2 extra batteries that I could swap into my G3.

Funny...I saw that one just earlier today. The thing I found interesting is that the sticker on that "OEM" battery looks a fair bit different than the sticker that can be seen when a 6P is disassembled...so that smells a bit fishy to me personally
Just bought this battery from amazon,
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IOJSN3E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
ive been playing music and its been holding charge more than the battery that was in there.
i will let battery drain zero and then charge it up and see how it holds up. It came charged at 33 and after 30 minutes of use its at 30 % ..
im excited to see the results, the battery was $13 USD and got delivered in two days, came in a yellow bubbled envelope and the battery was in a little box that said nexus 6p
one thing i noticed was that the flex cable was running from the bottom of the battery as opposed to the OEM that ran on top of the battery, it sits well, but honestly i did see a gap in size. the OEM battery actually filled in the whole compartment and the after market one left some space. i attached it and now im using the phone outside in the cold (im in Riverside CA) and its raining outside, and it seems to be holding up..
opening the phone wasnt hard, got the needed tools from a local dollar store, phillips precision screw driver, a hobby blade kit and it was super simple to open.

im excited to see the results, the battery was $13 USD and got delivered in two days, came in a yellow bubbled envelope and the battery was in a little box that said nexus 6p
one thing i noticed was that the flex cable was running from the bottom of the battery as opposed to the OEM that ran on top of the battery, it sits well, but honestly i did see a gap in size. the OEM battery actually filled in the whole compartment and the after market one left some space. i attached it and now im using the phone outside in the cold (im in Riverside CA) and its raining outside, and it seems to be holding up..
opening the phone wasnt hard, got the needed tools from a local dollar store, phillips precision screw driver, a hobby blade kit and it was super simple to open.

Will be interested to hear your report back after some continued discharging and recharging and seeing how it holds up. My battery life is manageable still, but it certainly isn't great lol I just don't know how much I want to open this thing haha
So after draining the battery a couple of times I'm charging it it would seem that this battery is holding up very well definitely holding up better than the battery I had before. This is still happens from when I charged it from 0 to 95 it sticks at 95 and doesn't move from there up until I disconnect and reconnect the cable but after that it does charge up to 100..
On Accu battery the battery reports at 97% health but I'm sure that the difference is probably off due to calibration. One thing that does puzzle me is the capacity that the battery is reporting the capacity that I see even though the battery is a bit smaller than the original battery is reporting 5413 mAh . I'm guessing that after a few more runs it would fix the capacity amount because it doesn't seem right. Yesterday I didn't notice that the phone got very hot in the matter of minutes while laying down on the counter charging at first which kind of worried me because I have never had that issue with this phone before. The phone is working way better than it was before and I could have got it sent out to Huawei and got replaced but I wanted to fix the battery issue as I grew fond of this phone and would not trust a replacement phone to make up for this one. Opening up the phone's very simple I found it surprising that it was so simple as it just takes a hobby blade and a playing card a debit card to slide under the battery and patience I was done with the process in about 15 minutes at the phone running and the battery was charged at 32% I will report back periodically but I honestly do believe that this battery is of good quality and definitely does hold up 2 what was advertised

Does the battery temperature change or is it a constant temp? Sounds like one of the batteries that I tried. It would stop charging around 95% too. But it had no, or non-functioning temperature sensor that read a constant 25 degrees. I deemed it unsafe and disposed of it.
Now that I think of it, you're right. Its at a steady 25 degrees on mine as well

They probably used a resistor in place of an actual temperature so the circuit would give a false reading instead of no reading at all. That's disturbing because fast charging uses the battery temp to adjust it's charging speed for safety and longevity of the battery. And it says a lot about the quality in general and what other protections were omitted. Having said that, I think the chances of actually having a problem are low. But even that was too high a risk for me.

If there is no, or circumvented protection circuitry to prevent overheating and shorts, which it appears there is. Then the worst that can happen is thermal runaway followed by venting flame at 1,000 degrees. Similar to the Note 7 or hoverboard videos you may have seen.

The stock battery is supposed to be 3450 mAh. That's interesting. There is a feature in Accubattery to manually select the proper mAh.

yeah to manually set what the capacity is supposed to be
the higher one i'm speaking of is after charging it. that's the capacity it calculated, but that's been changing every time after i charge up, i left the house today at 10:30 and took the phone off the charger then, right now at 2:34 pm Pacific Cali time i am at 73% on L-OS Rom,
i had noticed that CM based roms always drained faster than stock roms, so im running this rom to see the longevity of the battery life on this vs stock to finally come to a conclusion on battery quality after i run stock

Cool. Thanks for sharing your results. I am currently in RMA hell with google and my 6p. They keep sending me refurbed phones with original batteries. My OG which was manufactured in December 2015 had 95% battery life and the ones I have been receiving have been 72% and 84%. Currently waiting on the 3rd one. Hopefully a reliable OEM aftermarket option surfaces JIC.

General question about doing a RMA with Huawei...do you have to send your phone back first and wait several weeks to get it back or will they send you a phone first and you have a certain amount of days to send your old one back, or else you get charged the full value of the phone that was sent first?
thanks!

Did mine through Google. I had to do a preauth on my cc and then they mailed me a refurb. I send them back my phone in the same box using a prepaid postage label that they provide.

Well that was quick. Battery is swelling on Galaxy S7 edge that's 11 months old.

The battery is swelling on my S7 Edge slightly prying the case open. I have seen this happen before with lithium batteries, but never on a phone that's only 11 months old. My note 5 still hasn't swollen yet and I purchased it on release day. Guess it's time to buy a new battery along with battery door adhesive.
You can get them here: https://www.etradesupply.com/samsung-galaxy-s7-edge-series-battery-door-adhesive.html?acc=58238e9ae2dd305d79c2ebc8c1883422
https://www.etradesupply.com/samsung-galaxy-s7-edge-g935-g935f-g935a-g935v-g935p-battery.html
Had mine for 14 months and still fine.
The battery should last at least 3 years before it starts to swell. It's a good thing I have an LG V20 to use in the mean time. I won't power the S7 Edge back on; until I have replaced the battery. It's not worth the risk of damaging the back glass.
Mine has swollen after 13 months and they replaced it under warranty, but now about 1 month later it seems that it started to swell again :S
My device is out of warranty and has the swelling issue. Did you just go into your cellular store or did you call?

Wireless charger swelled my battery.
I ordered a battery on ebay for $9.99.
A glass back off Amazon for $12.00.
The tape for $5 (don't use glue or rubber cement).
$30 fix vs New phone.
My galaxy is up and running again.

Yes and now it is not water resistant & with a cheap battery with questionable quality.

As opposed to the cheap battery with questionable quality that Samsung shipped with the phone.
Other than that, my phone lives a boring life either in my pocket or on my desktop.
No watersports (Trump-style) for me.
My battery bloated after 8 months. I bought 2 replacements from different sources. Both claimed genuine and say beware of fakes. I have the exact same problem with each of the 2 replacements. They are not identical. So they most likely didn't come from the same place. They only charge to 70 to 80% and the charge LED remains red and never turns green. If I disconnect the battery for a few seconds and reconnect the battery will read about 99% and eventually to 100% and get a green LED. Things seem good until I get below 20% then it will die before ever reach 0%. My guess these battery are really 3000 mah batteries. Instead of farting around anymore I want a real 3600 mah battery. I tried those battery calibration procedures and none of them work.
speedy1979 how well is the battery from your source working? Any problem with reaching 100% or dying before 5%?
I don't intend to reseal the back. My case holds it in place just fine. I pretend I have an S3 or an S4 with a worn out battery cover that still relies on a case to keep it on. Waterproofing isn't a requirement for me
I purchased a battery from Tqthl with a capacity of 3800 mah. And I am having the exact same issues you are having. The battery won't completely charge while the phone is on or off. And the charge level of the battery drops at an unpredictable rate.
I didn't purchase the battery from Etradesupply in the link that I posted initially because of the extremely steep shipping cost; $61.68 from Hong Kong to NYC (the battery is just $13.76). But after the fiasco with the Tqthl battery I have decided to go ahead and bite the bullet. I'll post results when the new battery arrives.
https://www.etradesupply.com/samsung-galaxy-s7-edge-g935-g935f-g935a-g935v-g935p-battery.html
PS: If your wondering why I didn't assume the 3800 mah battery was fake. That because I use 18650 frequently in high powered flashlights and there capacity can vary widely. From as little as 2600 mah to as much as 3600 mah for Olight brand 18650's.
Thanks for the headsup on that Tqthl battery. $62 shipping for 1 battery is a joke.

Is the new battery charging to 100% and not dying when there should plenty of charge left( like powering off at 10%).
I just put the battery from etradesupply.com and it does not charge properly.
The battery from etradesupply came in a large box with about 30 cellphone rare cases and the battery was hidden in the middle, i'm guessing to hide the battery from customs. The battery wasn't even listed on the packing slip.
This is not good. I'm at a lost for what to do now.

Just bring it into a trusted repair shop and have them do it for you. A good repair shop should use genuine parts. Might cost a bit more but you know you're getting good parts and a warranty should you have any problems. Better than playing Russian roulette trying to find a good battery online.
I'll live with a fake battery that works and doesn't get hot. Rather than have a genuine battery put in and have the phone's back resealed.

Just original charger with cable.
I have had my share with fake batteries. All 4 won't charge properly. Finally, I got the one from china that worked as the original battery. Samsung has a serious battery quality or it is overcharged by design. Now I don't charge the new one over 75% to 80% to see if this extends the lifespan.
I got my good battery from ebay item 182542927765
Hope this helps
SOLVED!
I have finally found a battery that isn't fake. I purchased a battery from Samsungparts.com and charges and discharges normally. Here's a link. http://www.samsungparts.com/Products/Parts_and_Accessories/PID-GH43-04570B.aspx
