Another SIM Unlock post but with good questions.

I've read a lot of post about asking for the code from Tmo and buying a code online. I talked to Tmo tonight and asked for the code but since my number has already been given to somebody they said that they can't give me the code. I called LG and they said that can't get and never have the sim unlock codes. My question is why isn't there a way to get it myself? How do the services online get them if Tmo can't get it? There has to be a way. Is the code stored somewhere on the phone itself?

The unlock code is easy to get and inexpensive. I bought it for $3 and it worked without any problem. Look on the internet, eBay particularly, and read the feedback from purchasers who bought from various sellers, especially any related to the G2X. When you supply your phone's IMEI to the unlock code seller, make sure it is dead-nuts accurate or you will get an incorrect code and no refund. I got my unlock code many months ago through jBoxer who posted in the G2X forum.

MSL?

buying n5 from google play. does google give you the msl so you can activate the phone?
if no, then why not and will the msl app for root still work?
Because Google instead a mobile service provider. Your carrier of choice will activate (if the phone is compatible with their network).
I ask again, does Google include Msl code? Will be activating over the phone.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly sure you only get an MSL if it's a locked phone. Unlocked phones do not have MSL codes. You probably won't need an MSL. What carrier are you trying to use?

Sprint
Yes, you shouldn't need an MSL code to activate it on Sprint. They will ask for a different code which can be found in Settings > About Phone > Status.
An MSL will activate the tri-band for Sprint. I've been denied an MSL because I'm still under contract on a different phone. Others are reporting Sprint gave them the MSL without issue.

Anyone asked sprint for unlock code?

Wondering if anyone has asked sprint for the unlock code and if it works on T-mobile or another domestic provider
The unlock code you get from Sprint is for international use only, but the Sprint Tech said you can also get the Domestic unlock code too. For T-Mobile, there are a number of places online where you can buy the unlock code for a couple of dollars
There is no code for DSU. Sprint unlocks your phone remotely via a Profile update. Once you receive the DSU, the phone reboots itself and you can put in a GSM SIM.
To qualify for the DSU, your device has to be fully purchased or your contract ended.

Sprint MSL

Just an FYI, when you activate your new device (In my case a Note 5), Sprint will send an email regarding the activation. On this email, the phone number, model, DEC, SIM serial, and color are listed. Under these items is an activation code.
That is your MSL.
Might save some of you from calling or chatting with customer service.
Cool
I cannot seem to find it. Can you post a screenshot please?
I can verify that this is correct. I have the email and a sprint chat log and the activation code is the same as MSL code.
Just in case anyone was wondering....
I was given the run around about getting my msl even though i paid full price for an unlocked brand new note 5 because i was not the person who original bought it on the line it was only linked to when it was first paid for even though it was then removed from thar account
Bestbuy didnt give me the right code it tells me invaild
Bought 1 today, don't see it

I wonder if you activated your old phone on your account online than re activate your note 5 if sprint sends a confirming email with the msl?

When activating a phone online you get the msl on the activation screen and also sent to the email on the account. So yes to your question.

I got mine at Best Buy. There is an activation code on the paperwork but it definitely is not accepted as the MSL Code and I received no email from Sprint...probably because I got it at BB.
Just as an FYI
Just upgraded my wife's phone from the lg g2 to the note 5 today. I got an email with 2 attachments, but neither of them shows an "activation code". My email has a section called New Device Details which has the following:
Line: phone number
Device: description of phone
ESN: ESN number
ICC/SIM ID: sim card serial number
I tried to reactivate the G2 on the website and it said it can't be swapped to at this time.. I guess I'm stuck with trying to get the msl/activation number through sprint chat..
Edit: partial transcript from my chat with customer support.. Cheryl was very helpful in providing my IMIE numbers for both phones, and then gave me the MSL with no problems.. I just told her I was an information hoarder and liked to have this type of info on hand in case I needed it..
You : One other thing, somebody mentioned something about a msl number. Do you know what that is for my phone?
Cheryl S : Yes that is Mobile Subscriber Lock and that is required for Unlocking the phone and its not needed for normal day to day functioning of the phone.
You : Could you provide me with that number also please?
Cheryl S : Its XXXXXX
You : Ok, thank you very much!
