Hai,
I was running on CM 12, when i stumbled upon OPO forum about Oxygen OS , a month back. out of curiosity , i changed my Custom ROM to Oxygen OS. I am not a power user, but just followed the step-by-step guide!. Now, i am not happy with Oxygen and want to switch back to CyanogenMOD. I tried many step-by-step guides for the same, but they are confusing, asked me to install many new softwares and to top all, have only Macbookpro with me and no windows machine. can anyone please help with switching back to CM. sorry if i sound stupid!
P.S. my OPO is not rooted. I have downloaded TWRP, SuperSU, ADB and still clueless where to start!
Go around the guides/tutorials.
At this point, I recommend you just flash a different ROM, such as Sultan's or jgcaap's CM13 .
Hahaha... Man it's okay to be novice, everyone has a first time.
I don't have MacBook and never tried rooting using Mac , but here at xda I found a guide for you :
Link for rooting using Mac :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1917237
There was some discussion at Nexus 6P thread, even that may help you. You can check that if you have any problems installing.
Some discussion thread at Nexus 6P forum :

Hope it helps! Thanks

I just got my g tablet.
I want to root the device and later install a rom I was thinking on robeet`s tntlite
My question is, do I have to install first the 4.2.0. and later the 4.2.5 supplement?
Do I have to root it to attempt rom trials or can be done without rooting? anyway i was thinking to use z4 root.
any advice?
Thanx in advance Im absolutely new to android but Im an ios developer.
Would post a link if I had my tab with me but if you look in the development section there is a thread telling you exact steps to do what you want to. It has all the links for downloads you will need.
Oh this method involves mounting and unmounting partitions instead of using a rooting tool. Its worth doing this way. I felt it taught me more about my device. Good luck and have fun!

Thank you for replying, I was following this article:
How to unleash the power of your g tablet from android police( I cant post links yet)
I will search for the thread you are mentioning but if you can later please post it here I would really appreciate your help.
I recommend this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
HOWEVER... read about the available ROMS first. Check out the features and the caveats. See if Flash is already installed so you can skip a step in that instruction guide. Etc... Etc...
Most importantly... have fun and let us know how it goes ;-)
Edit: FYI... The current crop of custom ROM's come pre-rooted for your convenience. It's no longer a requirement to root the device first.
Thanx a lot bro, you helped me a lot with your reply, I will attempt all this at home since my office is 100% mac.
btw is this g tablet mac compatible? lol sorry for the noob questions
Quetions are good. They allow us to help and learn from each other.
Mac Compatible... Oh, yes. I'm typing this from my MacBook Pro which has a VirtualBox session running linux when necessary for nvflashing ;-) Your gTablet's internal memory can be mounted on your Mac desktop via USB or it can be shared via FTP or AFP using a few free apps from the market. Best of all worlds in my opinion.
Yep that's the thread I was thinking about. Glad someone found you the link.
Exactly what was said before, don't forget to have fun and let us know how it went for you and what rom you decided on.

As already referenced, this was the thread that I used, for my first upgrade.
I would recommend loading CWM as well, to redo your partitions to 2,0
Out of curiousity:
Did your new tablet boot up to a welcome screen with setup questions & an end user agreement or did it present you with a home screen ?
Thanx guys, Yap at the end I decided to went with tntlite 4.2.5
LGcubana
My gtab presented me with a home screen and since the beginning crash after crash! so dissapointing... inmediately picked up a new update and everything went smoothly after that, flash running, angry birds from factory presets and so on but I still wanted to moded the tab so that´s what I did.
Btw any of you guys know of a barscan app for the gtab so i can download apps faster from sites like appaware? I don´t know why but the android marketplace is not letting me install that app. Compatibility perhaps?
Hello guys. I need some help with installing a custom ROM for my friends Nexus 5. He either wants an Android L ROM or a CM11S ROM. They need to be good for daily driver at least. He prefers Android L if possible. He is running KITKAT 4.4.4, 3.4.0 kernel and KTU84P build number. Baseband is M8974A-2.0.50.1.1.6. He is fully stock. I would like a guide to install a custom recovery and then the ROM. Please give me clear instructions and be 100% about what you say because if it breaks he can't afford a new one. Thanks in advance!
Nothing is 100% Maybe you shouldn't be doing it for him until you read up on it. That's lots of guide. See the roll up sticky in the general forum

I'm just asking for links pretty much explaining the procedure for my friends phone. I already told you his phone's details. If I find some guides that I'm sure they work then I'm ok.

He wants a daily driver custom rom and he is thinking about flashing a rom based on a developer preview build? ^^
Guides provided here are safe if you follow all the rules.

Dear all,
I have tried in the past to backup and flash roms on some devices using Windows with some success. Now I have completely switched to Linux and have not been able to find a guide that would allow me to get started.
I have a Lenovo mobile (A806) that comes with good hardware but a crappy version of Android 4.4.2 that makes the user experience very unpleasant.
I am trying to figure out how to root my device, backup the rom currently on my device, find a custom rom (possibly based on Android 5),
flash it, and eventually troubleshooting common problems one might have. It might as well be that there are many other things I need to know, so please just let me know: I am here to learn.
I have no idea where to start to do this from Linux, so I would really appreciate if you folks could point me to the right tools/resources,
and help me getting started.
Thanks a lot in advance to all of you

Unfortunately, there is not much about your device on xda.
You can check this thread: Lenovo Golden Warrior A8 (A806) root.
There are some users which have managed to root this device.
Maybe they can help.
Good luck !

Hi Luca,
here is a thread about flashing ROMs on LINUX: Flash Rom under Linux.
And here another one: step 1 and 3 under linux ?
... but they are originally for another devices.
Here is a better guide: [ROM][DEV][REF] Heimdall Firmware Packages S4 LTE+ I9506 ... as you can see, it's for Samsung devices.
But it's a good read anyway.
Many thanks
I hope I can flash something soon!
Cheers,
Luca

There is no best ROM, only the one that YOU like more. You will have to go through the ROM section and look at them and make your choice. What you like is not what i like and so on, for example i am very happy with the stock ROM and don't see why i would change. But some people hate it, so to each his own, as they say.
Hi all,
I have the note 10.1 GT-N8000 on android 4.4.2 and i want to upgrade it to a stable Android 6.0 ROM
Can some one please point me to an idiots guide on flashing a new stable ROM on this tablet.
i have read a lot of threads here but they are all dating back to 2013 and i'm not sure if the information on them are still relevant.
cheers
NEW +Stable = no .
Old = yes but 4.4.2 as thats the last Samsung build .
Android 6 no release for Note 10.1
One Android 6 rom posted in Alpha stage at present and very unlikely to be other Nougat based roms . .

For Marshmallow, CM13 is your best choice.
If you don't need MM specifically, CM14/LineageOS runs well (Nougat); it's what I'm using.
You have to labour to read the threads' initial discussions and latest discussions at least. If you don't want to spend hours on this, then just stick with what you have, hire someone to do it for your, or buy a new device. Flashing is not for the impatient.

I don't mind reading because it also helps with more knowledge about this, however some of the methods of rooting dates back to 2012 and the threads have about 66 pages and over 500 comments.
If i can see a step-by-step guide, i can do the rooting myself.

Easy way 2017 would be to flash a custom recovery through Odin .
Then find supersu zip and flash that through recovery .
Not all custom roms require rooting it depends upon the instructions .
You want a rom then you choose and read the instructions first .
PS you also require a rom that's actually got a download as many roms are dead on here .
I highly recommend Lirokoa's unofficial LineageOS/Nougat ROM. No real bugs and it runs beautifully.
i had done some reading on the Lirokoa Lineage ROM thread, The ROM it self even still on Alpha stage, Runs beautifully. but some people stated that the Cell standby draining more Battery compare to SOT. well thats just from what i read, i personally havent try it myself. But its the Newest ROM for my N8000, im looking forward for it to reach Stable stage
