It looks like it will boil down to one of these two phones for me. What would be the selling point for one over the other? Both have similar speeds, screen size, resolution, storage space, shoot 4K videos, good battery life, cameras.

I would go for the Mate 9 for the battery, because otherwise, specs are really similar.
I will chose Mate 9 for :
1- Dual speaker.
2- IR Blaster .
3- Camera .
4- The antenna is very good.

And for the UI, design of smartphone, quality, heat during hard usage, performance in game, the speed, upgrade with nougat and future update, mate 9 is best.

Hy,i want to buy a new smartphone and i want some details about this one from someone who use it.Performance, battery, camera etc. Other sugestions too please. Max 450 euro. Thanks!
I will only list cons.
-Lack of 4k recording. Not a big deal for me
-Gpu is not good enough for upcoming graphic intensive games.Though, almost all games right now run max [email protected] just fine.
-By default, the screen calibration is very poor, too cold.
-Lack of custom roms. This is pretty subjective and may improve in a few months.
Pros? Any other than I listed above.
Fastest android phone when it comes to launching app speed.
Beatiful camera with nice features
Good battery life
And so on..
Recommended? Yes! This device is almost perfect.

Thanks for reply,i dont care about 4k recording but i care about gpu...for now i still think that OnePlus 3t is best choice...
Gpu? Then get the oneplus 3/3t.
The cons I list is pretty much pros for oneplus 3/3t.
The GPU is the main drawback for me, but it hasn't been an issue really so far. The frame rate in Dragon Quest 8 isn't great. But I mostly play CPU heavy games (emulators) so it hasn't come up really.
I agree, GPU has never proven to be an issue for me either. I don't play too many games though.
Love this phone really, battery life, stability, design are all perfect.
I don't even mind EMUI that much
excellent device with awesome design, good specs and a descent camera
I would recommend it if you are not interested in rooting it and can live with the EMUI user interface that is very different from the stock Android user interface (I like it though). The Honor 8 has nice, powerfull hardware and a good design for a very reasonable price.
If, however, you intend to unlock/root your device, then I can not recommend it because it does not allow you to change the encryption password of the internal data partition. You will be stuck with a data partition readable to everyone who can get physical access to your device.
I sold my Oneplus 3, then bought the Honor 8. It was a very bad decision. I really miss the freedom, the OIS, the amoled screen, the really fast fingerprint sensor, etc.. IMO, I don't recommend the Honor 8, it has a terrible video quality, pretty bad GPU, the glass get scratched REALLY easily, especially the back. You should get the Oneplus 3t.
No Custom Rom, because Huawei/Honor. Enough said.

Unofficial CM13.1 beta is already available; I'm sure more will come.
The con, for me, is the weak glass backing. Scratches easily, likely shatters easily.

so any help ?
I know there are a ton of phones out on the market at the moment.
I have a similar thread.
Maybe would help if you know what you are looking at doing with the phone.
That would be your largest determination.
Do you plan on modding?
Are you looking for the better camera?
I can try to help you with what I can.

The one I have been watching is the Honor 8.
It has great image quality ( one of its selling points). And battery is pretty good.
Also depends if you want removable storage or battery.
Seems about half the phones on the market do not have removable battery or storage.
Also are you looking for a large screen size or something that will fit in your hand nicely.
Reason I mention the Honor is because that is what I may end up getting and its currently 100$ off on huawei website.

is it better than P9 ?
From what I have read, they are identicle except that the Honor 8 has a different body style , and 1 GB more of ram in some cases.
Other then that they have the same camera, processor, screen size, battery etc.

OnePlus 3T / Honor 8 / Axon 7 - which is better?
I want strong battery and good camera.
Honor 8 have better camera than OP3T? good pictures on low light conditions?
what about development community?
1. The best phone is the one that suits your needs or most of them
2.There is no perfect phone hat you gain somewhere you lose elsewhere
3.There are a gazillion of reviews on youtube about the phones you want to check
4. The development for honor 8 is as you can see on roms, kernels section
I would choose between Honor 8 and OnePlus 3T. To be honest i wanted the OP3T very very much but i finished buying the H8.
If you want good 3D performance for gaming, decent camera and aluminium build go for OP3T.
If you want a fcking beautifull design,a very fast phone in daily use, decent camera but you dont play to much graphics intensive games go for H8.
I cant make a difference between this 2,both are amazing smarthones but let's say something more.
H8 is not a phone to throw,i think even a little drop would crack some glass and it's very very slippery. A case and a tempered glass is recommended. But we didnt forgot the OP3T ? Why i didnt get it ? Come one,on the site it's says "Delivered whithin 9 days"... I think they wanted to say 9 months but let's forget that. The other problem is that a lot of people are saying that is better to dont get a device with snappdragon 821 because drains battery faster. After all it's an amazing phone, but the kirin 950 runs faster than snap 821 in real test. The battery it's fine too,i get every time like 5-6h SoT and i'm ok with that. But i have only one problem with, the zoom, dont even think to take a photo or a video with zoom. I hope you understand what i tryed to say and i hope this will help you ðŸ‘
Btw,this phone worth buying.
Just go with the 3T if you want development and good camera
one plus has best support and community
But H8 have better camera than OP3T, No?
no customs roms for H8 and stock isnt very good..
OP3T get 8-9h SOT sometimes...
I dont know which is better to me.
I dont playing heavy games.

If you can pay and wait months for the phone go get the OP3T.
I can't say which camera is better, you can look on youtube reviews.
Why wait months? 10 days delivery.

Just go on their facebook page and see how lots of people are complaining about the delivery time. Some bought the phone in the first day of launch and they are still waiting for it.
This was a difficult choice for me as well. I had OnePlus in the past, one of the thing that annoyed me most them were various bugs in their firmware, although I can't comment how they are doing now with OxygenOS.
To me OnePlus 3T is overall a better device for consumption. Bigger AMOLED screen and very fast performance with lots of rams for both apps and games. Also lots of custom roms support.
In term of camera I think it depends on what you use it for. The 3T will clearly be better for video recording since it has 4K recording and OIS. Although it's 16MP front camera seems to be a downgrade compared the 8MP on the original 3, because of much smaller pixel size letting in less lights.
To me the Honor 8 is better for still shots because of the larger pixel size and the dual camera which really help with dynamics. The Honor 8 can decent photos late in the day and gets really sharp with macroshots.
I think you only pick the Honor 8 if you want specific things from it. Like the smaller size, microSD support and the good camera for photos, those were more important factors to me than performance. On the software size, Huawei have lots to improve, but Nougat version is coming out in Feb.

I like the Honor design and because it I want to buy this phone...
I dont know!!!
In my opinion the Honor 8 is an excellent phone. As said before there is always a trade off with any phones you'll ever consider. After having my Honor 8 for the past 2 months or so here are my impressions of it so far.
The camera on the Honor 8 is excellent for still photos and does fairly well in low light shots because of the monochrome sensor.
One concern I've seen many reviewers commenting on was the fact that the Honor 8 has a 1080p display. Even though it isn't 1440p the display is crisp and shows no pixelation. The screen on default color settings has a bit of a blue hue to it but that can easily be changed in the settings to a warmer more seemingly accurate color profile.
The Kirin processor is an excellent CPU, very efficient and performs well. The GPU will suffice for I'd probably 99% of the games available for Android. It also comes with a nice 4GB of RAM and I haven't had many issues with it needing to reload recently opened apps.
Although Huawei skinned Android with their EMUI it really isn't the worst UI I've seen on a phone. Though, if you do get the Honor 8 then I highly recommend updating to the Nougat beta. Now, one of the most impressive aspects of this phone however is the fingerprint scanner. It's one of the quickest and most accurate I've ever used. I don't think any phone that has a fingerprint scanner can compete with the Honor 8's.
My previous phone was a Galaxy S7 and one thing I have to say is that my S7 much like most Samsung phones in the past have so many gimmicky features that I find useless. Unlike the S7 though the Honor 8 in this aspect has a wide variety of actually useful features. One of those features is the Smart key which is a button apart of the fingerprint scanner. You can set it to open apps, turn on flashlight, camera, etc.
Overall, much like the vast majority of people who have bought the Honor 8 I'm extremely satisfied with the phone.
Honor 8 is cheaper too, you can get one for less than $300.

There is a way to upgrade to latest beta without any boot unlocking/rooting/wiping your data/etc.
Haven't encountered any issues on the beta and it's even more fluid, functional and beautiful than EMUI 4.1.

But Honor 8 is more beautiful and better camera...
Both are about the same price here so not an obvious choice..
i mostly care bout holy trinity of great cam+great batt+updates so one would argue its a no-brainer but still considering asus for some reason..
why did you go for Z6 instead of pixel?
Honestly, between the two the perceived value is the biggest thing for me. The Pixel 3a XL costs £470 vs the Zenfone 6's £500 price tag.
The Pixel has: OLED screen, expected quicker/longer support, great camera.
The Zenfone 6 has: More powerful chipset, more ram, larger screen, FM radio, 128gb vs 64gb (at mentioned prices), expandable storage, better front cam, generally better battery life ( according to GSMArena, only loses in video playback).
If the Pixel 3a XL was priced below £370 instead of £470 I'd probably get it and deal with that tiny storage for the sake of OLED, camera and quick updates. The current price just seems way too high even though 90% of the time I likely won't notice the chipset difference it's nice to have the option for things like emulation or just brute forcing against slowdown over the years.
I'm at the choice between 3a XL @ £450 VS Z6 @ £370 so..
Also "life" drain test like this makes it not an easy choice

Don't take this test so seriously. For example he didn't disabled power hungry Facebook and Facebook services on ZF6.

Where are you seeing the Z6 at £370?
So do you think gcam app can get as any closer to the pixel quality. It is the only concern I can think off work Z6

Camera, back cam shall be a bit(small may be) better than Z6 with gcam.
Camera selfie, DxO score for selfie is highest for Z6. If selfie is important, Z6 beat pixels/samsung due to flip cam.
Z6 beat others in battery life too (min 2 days and reach 3+ days for medium usage). Better processor than pixel 3a as u know already. Trust me, you will never be disappointed with Z6. I moved from s10+ to Z6 for better battery and selfie cam and I am happy with it.
So I actually got the Pixel 3a XL despite my original comment because I couldn't keep waiting. The camera is great (rear cam for standard shots seem better than the Z6) but you lose out on wide-angle, so got to think how much you'll miss that. Battery life is pretty good. Probably a lil bit worse than Zen 6 in most real world use but I get 9 hours SoT (mix of reddit, discord, maps, youtube, snapchat, whatsapp). I haven't had any issues with ram or speed like I was concerned, if you don't care about games the 670 will probably feel about the same as the 855 99% of the time.
If I could have the choice to switch to the Zenfone 6 free of charge now... I'm not 100% sure I would take it over the bit better rear camera and guaranteed and fast updates. The Zenfone 6 is definitely the better value + power, but for my casual use I don't think it matters that much to me now I have it. That said, if I owned neither and had both in front of me I'd probably buy the Zen 6 just because of the better value
E: Biggest downside is not being able to keep films and shows on storage because of the measly 64gb :'(
I ordered Z6 but after handling it for few hours sent it back and waiting for 3a XL to be delivered.
After so many positive reviews on the hinge mechanism I was disappointed how flimsy and rattle it turned out to be.
Another issue that I guess was decisive was the aosmark - I got burned twice with LG promising timely and long term support for their products (even opened dedicated r&d center) Its ok first few months up until new model comes out and support for the previous years one gets slower and disappears completely. Maybe it wont be that way this time but figured I don't have stomach for that.
Guys I am really confused between buying oneplus 8 or 8 pro. I cant go to stores to checkout both the devices and relying on your reviews for my purchase. I personally like the form factor of op8 and have an appreciation for compact devices overall. I am mainly concerned about the display quality(primarily), 120 vs 90 Hz, camera quality and haptic feedback and does it make a diff in real life. I have watched reviews about the battery life too and op 8 has significantly lesser SOT than 8 pro. If any of you guys have both devices please post some images and your feelings about the devices or feelings about op8 in general.
My usage varies from using social media, video calling, browsing web, lite gaming, and reading a lot of books and watching youtube(not movies).
Please exclude the price factor while giving your valuable opinions.
PS - Asking it here because of software updates improving the devices continuously. No youtuber can factor in those changes.
I dont think you will find many people who have both devices. My experience of the OP8 is that the 90hz refresh is great. No issues at all. Camera quality works OK for me coming from a OP5. There is no doubt that the OP8 Pro will have a better camera but how much better? I would bet most people can't tell the difference in picture quality, so then it comes down to what features do you want. Haptic feedback seems OK to me.
Is the OP8 that much more compact? Look at them side by side, there's not much of a difference. My OP8 is fine to hold. I've bought a flip case so I can let it stand in landscape mode to watch movies.
Both devices are getting regular s/w updates.
I know you didn't want to talk about price, but honestly, I think it's the deciding factor - that and the extra features of the rear cameras. There's not much else that differentiates the two.
Alan

Really and truly the size isn't that much different to be concerned with. As for battery I was running qhd at 120 and was still getting around 4 to 5 hours on screen time which imo isn't bad considering the resolution and refresh rate. If you went down to fhd at 120Hz I'd get like 5 to 6 and if I ran it at 60Hz I'd get 6+ depending on which resolution.

I used both, its safe for me to say in terms of performance, battery life and screen refresh, I didn't notice any difference. What did it for me though is the size, the 8 regular is definitely more comfortable to hold and I have big hands. Also the £200 difference couldn't be justified!

Did u get to test the camera? Also what do you think about the display quality of both the devices in real life.
Is the 8 pro the only with wireless charging? I like that feature because its less wear and tear on the USB plug, every wireless charging phone I had always kept a tighter USB connection , berter when using for data transfer. all phones I have had without wireless charging eventually end up getting less stable / lose USB connections. Motorola use to have a lot of wireless charging phones then they stopped adding them.
The reason I'm asking is I'm thinking about buying one, I didn't notice a finger print scanner or expandable micro SD card slot when I skimmed over the specs. Are these missing?
Thanks
