[Q] Can I flash LP roms while I'm on Nougat or MM? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry, this is a pretty stupid question but I've always upgraded my falcon. I just want to know if it's possible to flash custom LL or MM roms while I'm on Nougat. Like, can I just do a full wipe and flash LP or MM rom to downgrade?

Yeah no problem when flashing custom ROMS. Make sure that you're doing clean flash.

[Q] Probably a dumb question but..

If I want to flash a custom ROM that works with android 5.0.2 will this custom ROM also install 5.0.2 or do I first have to flash 5.0.2 and then flash the custom rom?
thanks.

If you flash a custom ROM, let's say 5.0.2, it will have been built from 5.0.2 source code. Therefore it is 5.0.2, although modified to some degree. Each custom ROM generally has instructions on what to do before flashing it, which is usually just wiping system, data, dalvik and cache partitions in recovery.

Ok, so it doesn't really matter if I'm running KK right now, If I flash a custom 5.0.2 it will also put my phone on 5.0.2?
Sorry I know quite a few things, but I know almost nothing at all about all this stuff.

No, only if youre in GPE there is an additional step to be done , or else youre good to go..
i quoted the answer for your question from the thread -
Do I need to downgrade to 4.4.4 before flashing these ROMs?
No. However an additional step is required if you are currently running a GPE ROM; see next question.
Can I flash this ROM if I'm GPE?
Stock Motorola ROMs require a F2FS 'userdata' partition. If you are GPE, or have ever been; you may need to convert to Stock. More info in FAQ here.

Mm to 511 downgrade

Hi guys. I am currently running Resurrection Remix MM version. I would like to downgrade back to 511. Can I just flash a lollipop rom through recovery or I need to flash system image of lollipop first? Thanks
You should be able to just flash an LP ROM but the LP ROM may not boot unless a data and cache are wiped.

Agree with audit, but you need to do a FULL wipe, which involves wiping /system. You shouldn't dirty flash down to 5.1, as you'll encounter lots of problems.
So make sure you have 5.1 gapps/rom on your device before wiping /system (do NOT wipe internal storage), then simply flash as you would anything else.

[Q] MM and LP Rom Flashing (N915T)

If I'm on Marshmallow PE3 through odin upgrade and TWRP and a custom rom can I flash any LP 5.1.1 rom's and have no problems with Wifi Data and such or do I have to flash back to LP?

Stuck on Boot Screen: Downgrading from Nougat to Marshmallow

I was recently running a Nougat rom for the M8 and after some severe performance issues at time I wanted to try to revert back to a stock rom. I tried flashing both the stock marshmallow and the de-bloated roms but even after re-installing the Marshmallow firmware I get stuck on the boot screen. Can anyone help?

did you install just the mm firmware, or the full ruu? also, does flashing the N rom you tried to downgrade from boot up if you flash it?
I used the firmware, and yes flashing the N rom got me back in.
if you are flashing a mm rom, try also flashing a custom kernel for it afterwards. aosp kernel for aosp rom, sense for sense etc

Noughat Custom Vs Official???

So i installed a custom noughat rom on my note 5. I can switch to marshmellow any time i want by twrp and my backed up marsellow rom..
But i am confused how is Flashing Android Noughat custom rom using TWRP diffrent from Flashing Noughat ROM using ODIN?
Is the diffrent just that noughat custom rom is running under marshmellow boot loader?
I am new to Android so please Explain
Am i losing any thing by not updating via OTA ???

First off, you do not lose anything by updating through OTA except the convenience factor. The reason you can flash a Nougat ROM on your phone through twrp right now is because the Nougat ROM has a marshmellow baseband, just like your phone. Once the firmware comes out officially by Samsung and TMobile then you will need to Odin the firmware on your phone to be able to use Nougat ROMs with the nougat firmware.

This is something to be familiar with if you flash custom roms and own a Samsung.
