Mm to 511 downgrade - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. I am currently running Resurrection Remix MM version. I would like to downgrade back to 511. Can I just flash a lollipop rom through recovery or I need to flash system image of lollipop first? Thanks

You should be able to just flash an LP ROM but the LP ROM may not boot unless a data and cache are wiped.

Agree with audit, but you need to do a FULL wipe, which involves wiping /system. You shouldn't dirty flash down to 5.1, as you'll encounter lots of problems.
So make sure you have 5.1 gapps/rom on your device before wiping /system (do NOT wipe internal storage), then simply flash as you would anything else.

[Q] If i want to flash Lollipop do I have to stock everything?

I want to flash the lollipop factory image. My phone is on 4.4.4 as an unlocked bootloader and is rooted. Do i have to return to stock to flash the image?
Thanks in advance
when flashing a factory img, you wipe out your partitions. why would you have to flash stock for that? also, you would have to reroot. why not just flash a flashable zip of lollipop stock or aosp? found in the android development section for the n5.

[Q] Probably a dumb question but..

If I want to flash a custom ROM that works with android 5.0.2 will this custom ROM also install 5.0.2 or do I first have to flash 5.0.2 and then flash the custom rom?
thanks.

If you flash a custom ROM, let's say 5.0.2, it will have been built from 5.0.2 source code. Therefore it is 5.0.2, although modified to some degree. Each custom ROM generally has instructions on what to do before flashing it, which is usually just wiping system, data, dalvik and cache partitions in recovery.

the custom rom is the firmware youre flashing..
i recommend you to flash this rom (stock) optimized version , as it has better battery backup and so for the moto g

Ok, so it doesn't really matter if I'm running KK right now, If I flash a custom 5.0.2 it will also put my phone on 5.0.2?
Sorry I know quite a few things, but I know almost nothing at all about all this stuff.

No, only if youre in GPE there is an additional step to be done , or else youre good to go..
i quoted the answer for your question from the thread -
Do I need to downgrade to 4.4.4 before flashing these ROMs?
No. However an additional step is required if you are currently running a GPE ROM; see next question.
Can I flash this ROM if I'm GPE?
Stock Motorola ROMs require a F2FS 'userdata' partition. If you are GPE, or have ever been; you may need to convert to Stock. More info in FAQ here.

how to downgrade to a stock based kitkat rom from Dirty Unicorn?

I'm currently running the latest dirty unicorn release. I've got TWRP 2.8.5.0 installed right now.
Can I just flash something KitKat based over what I have now? I was thinking of using this

If you have never upgraded to a Lollipop modem then yes, you can just flash back to a KK ROM, but you will surely have to wipe your data first.
You would know if you have upgraded modems because it is a separate step than just normal ROM flashing.
Or, if you aren't sure or just want to play it safe, you can flash the KK d850 modem from here before flashing the 10f ROM

Peregrine Help Error 7 When I Attempt to Flash Any Other ROM Other Than SlimKat 4.4.4

Hi guys, I have a Moto G 4G LTE Peregrine XT1045 that I've been using for over almost 2 years, I really like smaller phones and this one has been reliable. I rooted, unlocked bootloader and flashed TWRP 2.7.1.0 almost as soon as I got phone and installed SlimKat ROM (4.4.4). At the time I got phone I believe stock ROM was 4.4.3. I have tried with no success to move away from SlimKat and try other ROMs, every time I attempt flash a new ROM on TWRP 2.7.1.0 I get a error about zip binarys. I thought maybe I should update TWRP and tried version 2.8.X.X and 3.0.0.0 but both of those have graphical issues on screen when I boot to recovery, the screen becomes shacky and staticky, I attempt to flash any ROM other than SlimKat (including stock 4.4.4 and 5.X.X) and now I get a "Error 7..." (When using TWRP 2.8.X.X or 3.0.0.0) which from the research I've done seems to tell me that this means the ROM does not go with phone. I'm no expert but I have been rooting and flashing ROMs since my original G1 (First Android phone ever). I've since gone back to TWRP 2.7.1.0 and SlimKat 4.4.4 until I find a solution. I suspect I need to get new baseband that came with stock 5.1 update but I'm open to any help, thanks guys.
Boot into latest TWRP and Format Data (Wipe > Format DATA > Yes) - This step is essential, and will wipe Internal Storage (Downloads, Music, Photos etc, **backup important files**)
The graphical issue is due to having an older Bootloader version. This utility will upgrade your phone to latest Bootloader (v41.1A): http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/falcon-bootloader-upgrader-tool-t3093793
5.1 Radio / Baseband Firmware are here:

Thanks for the suggestions, I did do full format, three times before I flash but I hadn't considered the bootloader, will try that next. Thank you very much.

Just to be clear, that format option is specific. A factory reset is not the same thing.

Yea, full format so that even file scructured are wiped lol. Like I said I'm no expert but I'm no noob, I've hacked around with every android device I've had since my G1. I suspect the bootloader will have been the issue all along, thanks.

Thanks again, new bootloader did the trick  , installed it and flashed latest TWRP and no more squigly screen! I then tried a stock debloated XT1045 ROM but still "Error 7" so tried SaberMod 5.1.1 and that worked like a charm (would also "Error 7" before). Any idea why the Stock 5.1.1 wont work still?

Try flashing the entire XT1045 5.1 Factory Firmware Image first; then the Optimized ROM.

N920P-Downgrade from MM to Lollipop Builds?

Can I simply flash the Lollipop tar file while I am on MM stock ROM?
Is it true that I would face bootloops?
I am planning to do it since I am unable to get my hotspot working despite trying all the ways.
The reason why I am asking specifically is that because I am getting conflicting information that there is anti-roll built in PC3, however someone else mentioned that it can be rolled back.
Currently I am on PC3 build.
Yes, but flash latest Lollipop build and factory reset before doing so or full wipe with custom recovery if you are rooted.
You have to use Odin to flash back, full factory tar.
