Switching to nexus 6p - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hi,
I really don't know is it worth or not?
I'm a big fan of stock android but I think display and camera of s7 is better than 6p,
Is there any hope that cm will release for s7?
Just confused

Switching from nexus 5 to new device?

Hello xda,
currently I use a nexus 5 and I'm very happy with it, but I want something new. My sister will get my nexus 5.
I'm thinking about 3 devices
Note 4
Pro's:
Good camera
Big and removable battery
Good display
Con's:
Touchwiz
What about updates after 5.0.1?
Nexus 6
Pro's:
Pure Android
Many custom roms and kernels
Con's:
Camera not so good as note 4
What about screen burning?
Htc one m8
Pro's:
Nice design
Good speakers
Con's:
Camera
What about updates?
Can someone help me by my decision? Or are there any other good devices I have forgotten?
Thanks a lot

Buy a Nexus Phone, if you are a developer, love the Stock Android and want quickest update. Nexus Phones are made for developers. Buy the Note 4, if you want a Great Camera with lots of productivity features. If you love photography, consider the Note 4. Performance is also phenomenal and I assume that it will get updates since updates are important part of competition. Buy HTC M8, if you want to show something to show. Its has great design and good performance.
May be this helps you

Note 4, good phone just has a huge screen. Not many custom roms out there
Nexus 6, great phone, customizable, a lot of support for it regarding modding it.
M8, never had experience with the M8 first hand, however I have heard it is a great phone.
Suggestions:
LG G3, it can be rooted and ROMs are available for it and it has a QHD display. The nexus 6 is more expensive for similar specs. There is also a lot of support for this phone regarding modding.
I had a Nexus 5 and jumped to a G3 and have not looked back. Have it running on CM12 and considered jumping to a nexus 6 when they came out. I was disappointed as the specs were practically the same and it cost about 200$ more. They are easy to manage and also have a removable battery.

An Upgrade to the LG G3 32GB would cost me 200€ extra money. Do you think it is worth it?
I would suggest Nexus 6 (Only for the Roms and community is woth it).
And HTC M8, the build quality of this phone is superb and you have at least the GPE roms.

Yes, nexus used to be the best ratio specs/price but this one... You can choose the M8 anyways, I dont recomend samsung phones, seriously, touchwizz is s****
Short feedback. I switched to LG G3 and very happy with the device. Currently running lollipop 20h not rooted, because looks a little bit difficult at the moment. Sometimes switching between apps is a little bit slow, per haps an update could help. Battery life and camera are awesome.

Galaxy S6 Vs Nexus 6p

Hello Everyone,
i thought of purchasing a new mobile for my upcoming birthday...and i'm stumped between these two Beastly Devices..
here are my findings regarding both the phones:
Nexus 6p:
pros: Faster Update
Latest android version
USB type-c
Galaxy S6:
pros: Best Display and Very Crispy Display
Best Camera as per the reviews
Very Fast transfer rates
i'm from india and i need your suggestion regarding these two phones..both the phones are selling for the same rate in the market
Thank you
Hi! I own an S6 but I think 6P would be the best choice. I'm for those fast updates and pure Android. For sure 6P feels much faster than the S6, and it has the looks too. Can't wait to see it available in my country. Cheers!

The Nexus 6p also has the same amoled panel as the Note 5
i would say it depends on you, if you want the best camera and display then S6, if you wan't stock android with bigger screen 6P.....if i had a chance to change my S6 to the 6P it would be only because stock android, but i think that stock android get a bit boring after a while, TW is no different but there is a lot of themes that changes almost everything......it's up to you

Anyone coming from the Nexus 5X/6P?

To those interested in the S7, are any of you current owners of the 5X or 6P looking to upgrade? If so, what made you consider the S7?
Nexus 5x checking in.. Only looking to see what this phone's about, not really considering switching. 5x has all my 'needs' but is missing several 'wants'
Pros for Galaxy S7:
- SD card support
- Super AMOLED screen
- potential 5.1 screen (I like smaller phones hence 5x and not 6p)
- upgraded camera?
- Snapdragon 820
- overall build.. personal opinion
Cons:
- Touchwiz
- Severely limited development
- Difficult to root
- Touchwiz
- cost
I gave my 5x to my son. I find it still unnecessarily big for a 5.2"screen. I'm considering the s7 bit the s6 battery and lag was why my s6 only lasted 2 months. I'm also considering the lg g5 or htc m10. Size is a big factor though.

Since the Snapdragon variant will be released, development should be good to go regarding AOSP. Also, the S6 and Note 5 were rooted relatively fast, so that shouldn't be a problem either.
im coming from the 6p and the only reason i want to switch is because of the size, i belive the 5.1 size is the best for one handed use
Most of users will switch because of Wireless charging. A Nexus device without wireless charging feels like a step backwards.
Once I heard the S7 Edge will have a 3600mAh battery, I think that sold me on the S7. The only thing I'm waiting for is to see if there is a true single model that works on all carriers.

I'm very interested in the S7 as well as the G5. I have the 6P and I like it. I would love it if it were smaller. I really loved the S6 but battery life was a problem for me. Plus the snail pace of updates are not the best.
I may even consider going back to the S6 128GB version one Marshmallow rolls out with Verizon. I really think the only significant difference that will matter is battery size from the S6 to S7. Other little things like water repellent /resistant, for me is minor. Snapdragon s820 is good but most phones perform well with old processors.

The rumor says a 3,000 mAh capacity battery for the S7, we hope it could provide significantly stronger battery performance than the Galaxy S6.
Same as everyone else it looks like.
Had > Galaxy S6
Have > Nexus 6p
Want > Considering all variants. Need to see them to play.
I like the 6p. Battery life is awesome. It's very fast. Constant updates.
But... I realised now that the grass wasn't greener on the other side.
I'd rather have awesome screen, awesome camera and an awesome build over speed, updates and better memory management.
No phone has it all for me. I guess I realised quicker than I thought I would that km bored of this phone.
Plus Oddly I always thought I like bigger phones, but when you compare them side by side on Android, the screen isn't really showing that much more information despite how much larger it is. Change the font on 5.1 inch S6 and it pretty much shows the same as the 6p.
Plus when you have the case off the S6 just felt so premium in the hand. The S7 is sure to be the same.
Yes the S6 battery life was a joke it was so awful. But it's quick charge was so much faster than the Nexus 6p is.
The next question is going to be Edge, or 7. I like the idea of the Edge, but the S6 felt so much better in the hand. Will be interesting to see the S7 variants and see what they're like.

Galaxy s7 is cheaper, smaller screen, smaller battery.
S7 Edge is more expensive. Bigger screen, bigger battery.
S7 edge the edge don't have useful features.
Edge Same CPU, same memory, same GPU.
If I have to chose I go for regular galaxy S7.
Had s6 just sold for 6P, but for sure going s7. The 6P camera of OK but slow to focus. My s6 was fast and sharp pictures. Outside display was amazing for s6, nexus I have to pump brightness to see. Samsung got me again but at least it will have marshmallow with the use of bigger battery and deep sleep this thing is going to rock!! Oh and a free VR headset!!!!!
The VR headset looks like a pretty sweet bonus for pre-order. I'm going to wait it out a few months until I see how the TMo ROMs are shaking out. Hopefully the price will also drop a bit by that time. Then it's the standard S7 at the highest capacity offered. Should be a very worthwhile upgrade over my S4.

I agree 100%. I always wanted a Nexus, and it does have great benefits for me like instant updates, lots of dev support, and I can switch between carriers like Verizon and T-Mobile.
There are lots of issues though. The latest version of Android is somewhat buggy, lacks features compared to Samsung, and the camera software is just horrible in comparison. Plus, for a 5.7" phone the 6P is just huge because of the top and bottom bezels.

Yup. People always rave about front facing speakers. But I don't think they're that loud personally, and definitely not worth the size increase to have them.
The camera software isn't as good at all. I have to agree. Whilst it's true the nexus does take good pictures, it's definitely not as good as Samsung.
Plus I always thought my nexus screen was awesome, but I got my work phone (Galaxy S 6) and put it next to it, and the Samsung sharpness and colours were massively noticeable!
I'd rather have the better hardware, faster charging on an older android software version than this for sure.
Lesson learned. Off to S7 or edge I go!

I hate front facing speakers. Never use them. I use headphones if watching videos / listening to music.
So for me they are wasted space, and make the phone too big. That and the crap 810 cpu is why I didn't get the 6P...

I would definitely recommend the s7. It is fast, has lots of ram, has an excellent camera, has an heart rate montor, alot of software features and has wireless charging. But the nexus 6p is more budget friendly and recives the android updates first. So if you are low on budget then choose the 6p, but if you can afford the s7 then buy that.

in relation to the software , you believe that the nexus 6p will receive more updates that s7 ? I do not know very well the TouchWiz and I wonder if she would have a good life for the next updates .

The nexus recives the updates first because it runs vanilla android. Samsung s7 will also receive those updates, but a little bit later and since it is a flagship it will recive the updates first, compared to other Galaxy models.

I would spend some time with both platforms (Vanilla Android, and Touchwiz) for a week then decide. Personally, I don't use all the Samsung "value added" junk so I would always go with the Vanilla option. My Nexus 5 still works just fine (even after 3 years). I might upgrade, but I don't feel as though I "need" to. I personally believe their hardware is second to none, but the software interface is a very polarizing factor. Also, the S7 is probably a lot smaller than a Nexus 6p, and I'm not a fan of phablet sized phones.
I have used Samsung phones in the past and the lagginess just kills it. I'd rather stick with the Nexus 6P. It's like having an iPhone experience for Android. Very smooth running software with lots of updates. Plus love having a phone that everything works on with no issues.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA-Developers mobile app
The S7 is the superior phone in every possible way except for the speakers, price and fast updates. If you're patient and don't need to have the latest android version on day one, definitely go for the S7.

This is not the "past". We're in 2016 and Touchwiz is pretty smooth and fast, with the advantage of having alot of features that you won't get for months/years on a Nexus.

What issues do the S7/S7 edge have?
I have both and they each have their advantages.
Nexus 6p
Much better speakers
Better software (my opinion, both 6.0 and now running Android N beta)
Better reception on T-Mobile and their roaming partners
Less noisy camera in low light
S7
Much handier size and lighter weight
Brighter screen is easier to read in sun
Wireless charging
Micro USB port to use common cables
Camera focuses faster
I get similar battery life and find the cameras pretty similar in good lighting. If you don't mind the larger size, I'd recommend the Nexus 6p. I prefer a smaller size for outdoor activities, so I'll probably sell my Nexus 6p and keep the s7.
S7 is better, but more expensive. If money isnt an issue, then get the S7
If you want the best screen, best camera, best design, great battery life, water resistance and SD Slot buy the S7. If you want a good Allround phone with pure Android buy the 6P.
I have a S7 and it's awesome.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge doesn't have a true 5.5 screen because of the curved edges. People have reported problems with the edge portion of the screen, saying they accidentally and inadvertently click apps while holding the phone. Also the Galaxy S7 Edge only has 32 GB of built in memory as opposed to the possibility of getting 128 GB built in. I know with the Galaxy S7 Edge you can use expandable memory but expandable memory is not as good, reliable and fast as built in memory.
To be fair to Samsung, the Galaxy S7 Edge screen is nicer then the Nexus 6P screen. Cameras looked the same to me. I didn't test the Galaxy S7 Edge in low light so I don't know how it compares to the Nexus 6P awesome performance in low light.

Pixel 1 vs. Nexus 6P

Hi!
I was lucky and got a Nexus 6P (64GB) and a Pixel 1 (32GB) for cheap.
Due to a broken battery (Nexus) and broken speaker (Pixel) I got two new replacements.
However, I'm not sure which one to keep.
Nexus is a little big, but cam and speed are fine and there are a lot of custom ROMs out there and also 8.1
Pixel is more handy, faster and maybe overall better (cam same) but no custom ROMs and in case I sell it, it will go for 200€ more than the Nexus.
What would be your choice?
I'm coming from Nexus 5
I'd keep the Pixel purely because it's likely 8.1 will be the last official update the 6p will see. Appreciate that if you are a custom ROM sort of person that might not be a big deal
