UI/Handling
FOSS Browser uses the latest [Material You](https://m3.material.io/) design libraries. Following system day/night mode and a wallpaper based theme are just two features of this new library. The UI is optimized for one-hand-use. All UI-elements are at the bottom of the screen.
More features:
Play audio on background.
Keep screen on.
Open links in background.
Restore tabs on restart.
Privacy
FOSS Browser uses profiles to protect your privacy. For each profile you can enable or disable: AdBlock, JavaScript, cookies, fingerprint protection and much more. Profiles can also be saved for domains ("github.com" ⇒ Trusted website). This saved domains always overwrite the current profile. So, for example, "github.com" will always open with the trusted profile, even if you are browsing in the protected mode.
More privacy features:
Build in AdBlock, which updates automatically. You can decide which content to block. AdBlock hosts are taken from Steven Black - AbBlock hosts.
Third-part-cookies can not be enabled.
Enable or disable Android-autofill.
Delete browser data (on app exit).
Choose between different search engines (or set a custom one).
FOSS Browser itself doesn't collect any data: Privacy
Bookmarks filter
Organize your bookmarks with filters. You can set custom names for each filter. Long press the bookmark icon in the toolbar to get fast access to your favorite bookmarks.
Gestures
You can assign over ten different gestures to the toolbar and the toolbar buttons. Each in four directions. So you have up to eight different gestures to control FOSS Browser. Supported is for example: load last website, switch tab, reload, open bookmarks, ... and many more.
Backups
Backup all your important data (bookmarks, history, trusted websites and so on) on your SD-card. You can also back up FOSS Browser settings.

Pretty interesting so far, some things:
-Youtube cant do fullscreen
-Why does it always search in this sp engine even URLs
-Adblock would be cool

Nice design. Has basic features with some extras. Is it just me or scrolling's not smooth enough?

Thanks for your response...
To open a url you had to beginn with "http..." I changed this in the current version now "www..." is enough. I don't think that I will implement Adblock because there are several apps, which can do this better.
Update V2:
- YouTube now can open fullscreen
- opening urls is easier

Thanks @Gaukler_Faun for this new FLOSS app!
I'm going to install your browser and I'll post a feedback ASAP.
Added to my list
EDIT: which license do you use?

I will use gpl v3. If I have time today I will add it on github. As said it is planned to be released on F-Droid. At the moment I'm working on the context menu for the lists and some ui improvenents.
If since then no new issues are reported I'm going to release the app.
Thanks for your feedback and adding the app to your list.

Good idea. Threads are full of adblock questions once it's implemented...
This is a great browser with interesting features (save screenshot of the whole web page is useful).
Some suggestions/questions:
• There's no tabs. Do you plan to add them?
• Enable/Disable Javascript per website
• User agent
• Edit bookmark
• Set a homepage
• Export / Import bookmark
• Hide status bar while browsing (optionnal)
• Text reflow
• Unable to select the current URL from the omnibox (pressing the URL bar to search is not a good idea IMHO)
• Swipe to the bottom from the URL bar also closes the app (not explained in the Help menu)
• Pinch in isn't handy sometimes because the app wants to refresh.
• Unable to access to the General settins while browsing. I have to close the app to return to the first screen.
• I checked Form data in the general settings but I have nothing in 'Open PassStorage' after being logged in to XDA.
• Why do we always have https://www.startpage.com in the Open passStorage window?

Hi! I tried your browser (release and release2) and it seems to be fast and lightweight to open. :highfive: But whenever I tap on the magnifier, app FC. :crying: No matter if I write a word or a URL in the search box. I'm on my Moto G 2014, CM12.1, and xposed. Others webview-based web browsers work fine in my device. Any idea what could be the problem? Thanks!

Do you have a FC while searching something with your default search engine or a term on a web page?
No issue with my Nexus 5 - AOSP 6.0.1 - Xposed. Could you provide a log?

Hi, there! As I said, I have others webview-based browsers and they work fine, whether I search for a term or for a URL in their own search bar. And I don't have any default search engine such as Google search bar, if that's what you meant. About the log, as I'm a complete noob, I downloaded AndyLog to create one (it's in XDA ). This is my first time with logs so, please be gentle, and I don't know if it's going to be useful at all :silly:. Please, tell me if there's anything else I can do to help. Keep up the good work! :good:

There's no specific bar for each search engine. You can define one in the general settings and it is used when searching something from the URL bar.
Thanks for the log. FYI you could use MatLog (open source) and here is a tutorial to record a log: Easiest Way to Utilize Matlog

Thanks for your suggestion on Matlog. It's easy to use. :victory: So I upload the log with this tool too, just in case its logs are more useful. :highfive: No hurry, of course, but do you -or OP- have any idea why it FCs when searching? Thanks!:good:

Thanks for the logcat. Have I understand right:
You did a fresh install
you opened the app
you clicked the search icon the first time
you entered something in the edittext field
when you click the second time the app crashes
It seems to be a problem with the keyboard ... At the moment I'm looking at it ...

Hi! Yes, that's right. I did that process with release and release2 apk, fresh install, and both apk crashes at the moment of making the search. With or without the keyboard on display. I'm currently using swiftkey keyboard. Good luck :fingers-crossed: and thanks :good: for your hard work!

Thanks for your reply ... so ...
There's no tabs. Do you plan to add them?
I don't even know if it is possible to implement tabs in a webview. It is not the normal way without tabs, but if you are used to it you don't miss them. The history and readLater list are a good replacement. So I don't plan to integrate tabs.
Enable/Disable Javascript per website
I thought about it and have some ideas to implement. But I think it's a lot of work ... So maybe some time in future... You can "quicktoggle" javascript in the settings (will be "retoggelt" when you restart the app.
User agent
I tried to implement it but with no success. User agents seemed to be controlled over javascript interfaces on the websites. Also different websites have different ways to recognize the useragent (link).
Edit bookmark
Is implemented (long click on a entry).
Set a homepage
At the moment i don't want to implement.
Export / Import bookmark
Implemented in the settings (backup/restore).
Hide status bar while browsing (optionnal)
Good idea and not much work. Will be implemented. Do you mean only statusbar or also the omnibox?
Text reflow
Google removed this feature from webview with KitKat.
Unable to select the current URL from the omnibox
That I won't change. You can copy the link in the clickboard over the menu (share).
Swipe to the bottom
removed in latest release (v3).
Pinch in isn't handy
There are also some other minor bugs while webview is loading. I will work on it...
Unable to access to the General settins
Implemented in current version (v3)
I checked Form data
Google also removed saving password in a webview. Some websites (p.e. github) are storing the login data in cookies. Enabling cookies solves the problem on some sites. When I implement the whitelist for javascript, there will be also on for cookies... You can save a website in the passStorage over the menu (save website). There you can enter login data. Login data will then be copied to the clipboard (just try it out). The passStorage list has also a long click menu.
Why do we always have...
This is needed to create the databases. There must be at least one entry per list. When you saved more than one entry you can delete the default entry...
Again big thanks to you for testing my app and making suggestions to improve it. As you see some things are already done.
Regards
Gaukler Faun

New update v3
v3:
quick settings in the browser
Android N app shortcuts
ui improvements (edit bookmarks, enter login data)
some minor improvements
Please make a clean install. There are many changes under the hood...
@CLPose I didn't find a solution until now. Perhaps you should use the default keyboard and try it with the new version. I changed some code concerning the keyboard...

Hi, @Gaukler_Faun! I did a clean install of version 3 and it FCs as well with Swiftkey keyboard and with CM AOSP default keyboard. So sorry! Attached, you can find log of browser V3 with AOSP keyboard. Thanks! :good:

Some features I suggested are available with Lightning/JumpGo browsers (MPLv2). It may help you to add more features.

1. Actually tabs are very useful (that's why we have them in most of web browsers ). For instance, you are on a forum and you have to do some tests on the website. You need 2 tabs to switch between the website and the forum.
Tabs are also handy when opening several websites from a RSS feed.

can't sign in to google, i always end up on http://https://signin.google.com/... after entering my login data with 2-way-auth enabled (and yes, i tried removing one of the protocol identifiers)
@XlAfbk, are you trying to access http://signin.google.com/ ?
Or you are trying to sign into any Google service? By the way, I was able to sign into Gmail...
Please let us know, thanks alot =)
I dont understand the gestures. Is there a way to set your own? Is there a way to just go back or forward with a screen swipe? I see the yellow line but I dont see any settings for it.
Other then that, its passed my 10 minute test. Ill try it longer. Haven't tried flash yet, or sharing links, copy and paste. Cool ui though. Very miren.
@irish22022, thanks alot for your feedback.... we'll thinking of adding gestures setting in future releases.. =) Please stay tuned, and let us know any other feedback after more testing,,, thanks alot again Irish22022.

I'm trying to signin to any google service, e.g. mail, reader, directly from homepage, ...
problem prolly exists with 2-way-auth only, make sure to enable that for testing. I just confirmed the issue in SDK emulator, it's definitly a bug in your browser, doesn't happen in any other
@XlAfbk, thanks for reporting..... it's confirmed, and we're looking into it... =)
Hi,
Been using this for past couple of days.
Good points.
1 Fast but not the fastest
2 Instant back
3 RSS doesn't seem to auto start any more
4 Nice layout
Bad points
1 Uses way too much memory, only had Maxthon running with one tab but it was using over 95mb & between 0 & 60% of CPU
2 No real way to customise search engines, always searches google.com & not google.co.uk
3 Start page with the collapsible links looks like Miren & again doesn't seem to allow changing or editing the links
All in all a lot better than v1 but still some room for improvement, suffice to say uninstalled dolphin mini to use this as backup browser as Xscope Pro is main browser.
Cheers,
Banzi.
1. If you open a secure link from another app (say my friend sends me a Facebook link, https://Facebook.com...) then it puts HTTP:// in from of the already existing protocol designator. That should be fixed.
2. It still has the issue where sometimes on opening it it will reopen links that I've clicked before in a new tab and I have to close it.
3. You should definitely get flash options working (e.g. always on, click to play, etc) because A. flash ads are annoying and mess with mobile formatting and B. they use a lot of memory.
4. It would be really nice if we could choose what the default page is, like bookmarks or a new tab page or something. I never use the home page with all those links, I'd like to be able to open the browser straight to whatever page I want.
5. This isn't an issue, just personal preference... I love that you guys got themes working, but I don't really like glossy gradients, like on the tab. I think it would look better if it were just a dark gray to medium gray from the bottom to the top of the tap to give it a shadowy look instead of shiny. (that's on the gray theme of course but the same principle would apply.)
All in all, great work and you guys have really improved this browser.

@BanziBaby, thanks for trying it out. It is the bad points that we pay extra attention to. The bad points are great great suggestions...
@sageDieu, thanks much for taking the time to give us these comments.
Yes, we're aware of the issue with secure links. =(
Also, we LOVE the default page suggestion from you......

I believe one good way to conserve memory would be to have flash click to play as I suggested. I've noticed very major memory spikes when even a couple of simple flash ads are loading on a site. And on some music blogs and things that have a lot of little flash players (like up to 20 on a page) it becomes almost unusable.
you're welcome btw, glad to help. I love beta testing and bug reporting

Nice work guys, just downloaded and tried out:
I would have few notes for first sight
1. When you drag the page and try to scroll up/down there is at about 5-7 millimeters of finger-move when nothing happens. Scrolling shoud be instant and not laggy. BTW at the same time for basic scrolling movements (r/l/u/d) appears the yellow line too, which is useless as far as it's not a gesture.
suggestion: no line for scrolling gestures
try to find cause of that lag
2. When I enter an URL and the page appears i like to have an overview of the whole page first in order to find the interesting part easily.
suggestion: It would be good to have page overview as default page loading method or at least a switcher in the settings for it.
3. Entering URL during browsing is not comfortable.
-there's no possibility of that in fullscreen mode
-in normal mode you have to scroll to the top, but the url bar is still not there, THEN u grab the page again and pull it down: now u can see the bar.
suggestion: easiest would be when u push the menu button the url bar appears too, or at least a button for the menu for new page; both in normal/fullscreen mode
Thx, it's a really good start
edit: forgot to mention - Samsung Galaxy S
Another bug found. When posting in forums (this one for example) you are unable to attach files. This is not an issue with the stock browser, Firefox Mobile or Miren.
Also. What's the word on flash content floating above the browser UI and a "Desktop UI" option?
(Having the two threads is a little confusing. Hopefully this is the right thread for 2.0.)
@marcedli,
suggestion 1) is very very nice, and we're aware of this now
suggestion 2) what do you mean by the page overview?
suggestion 3) I am seeing the addressbar when I browser, are you referring to a particular page when you browse and you dont see the addressbar?
Thanks for all the great feedback.... =)
@Lokifish Marz, thanks for reporting the bug of not able to attach files
"What's the word on flash content floating above the browser UI and a "Desktop UI" option?", i know that you dont mean by UA strings, but can you elaborate a little more?
Also, what do you mean by two threads? You mean I have two threads for Maxthon Mobile in XDA? Thanks much =)

If you guys get the file upload and flash/iframe issue fixed you'll be ahead of everybody else. Only the stock browser has file upload, proper flash/iframe binding and flash playback.
Examples of a "Desktop UI" As far as the feature set, it's covered in the linked thread. If you have more questions or need more specific details then feel free to PM me.
The only problems I have is it closes your tabs now when you try to goto another app and come back
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Some other observations,
Opening a boo0kmark always opens in a new tab even if open in new tab isn't ticked in options.
As the poster above says if you use the built in task switcher on galaxy S the browser always seems to open another tab that replicates one that is already open.
Can't seem to find a way to use speed dial as main page rather than the links page there is the now or is that the speed dial page?
On demand option for flash is needed badly as all the flash ad's slow down browsing.
More themes or support for user themes (the gray theme is more blue than grey & a black theme would be nice)
Keep up the great work, damn fine browser you have made.
Cheers,
Banzi.
@BanziBaby, thanks for all the great feedback.
On demand flash and flash playback is already in the works..
the speed dial page is the page when you open a new tab...=)

Meta Widget - create widgets from any website content

Any widget created through Meta can be customized and automatically updated, or updated on user interaction.
Features
★ Create widgets from almost any website element
★ Parse graphs and images
★ Extract statistics and information from authorized sites
★ Configure widgets (background, alignment, etc.)

The app is currently quite stable, but we still prefer to call it a beta. So please, do write to us with suggestions or bug reports!
Play Store
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.metawidget
The free app has everything but automatic updates. Please buy the Key - that would help us a lot
Screens
Guys has anyone had issues with the keyboard not popping up in the internal browser?
Any issues with this first build of the meta widget?
Its a cool idea, not exactly what i thought it was. You can have it make a widget of buttons on a web page. I run my little sisters Etsy store, and there is no good etsy app. I used the app to go to the shop page and basically what it does is make a widget with the top buttons that i can click and will open up my browser. I was hoping it would show if i had messages, activity, etc...
I really like the idea, yet i dont know what I will use it for.

I really like the idea, yet i dont know what I will use it for.
Click to collapse
You selected the wrong element. It shows you ANY element (static or dynamic) in a webpage. If you log into the store, go to the private messaging area and click the "unread messages" number, it will show you how many you have.
For example - i use it to extract the impressions graphs from my advertising analytics service.
Can you have it poll multiple things, such as activities and conversations? Or would that have to be 2 widgets?

You can poll multiple things separately. We are working on a way to do this better in our upcoming widgets! project. Here though you can only select one element at a time.
Atm the best way to line things up is to use a launcher that can overlap widgets.
Btw the widgets! project should be in beta quite soon as well
Awesome. Keep up the good work.

Text Aide started out as a simple Xposed module called Text Xposed to add 3 options (Define, Search and Share) to the Contextual Action Bar when some text was selected while typing.
But now it has a lot of features which do not require Xposed at all.
• Define Picking up from xDictionary by @perseus0807, this displays the definition of the selected word as a pop-up. Ideal when you are reading an e-book or a news article and find it rather distracting to open a dictionary app again and again.
There are two ways to do this without Xposed
• First is to activate a feature called "Copy to define" from the settings. As the name suggests, you just have to select some text and hit the copy button.
It can be easily paused from the notification when you don't need it.
Enabling the + button shows you a pop-up with the copied text, which is useful in apps like WhatsApp where a word can't be selected singularly from the chats
• Second is to share the text and select Define
• Third is to use the homescreen widget
• For Play Books you can also use "Web search" feature. And for Moon+, FB Reader dictionary feature choose "ColorDict"
• Offline definitions available in 5 languages currently: English, French, German, Italian and Spanish
• For more languages you can use my app Dict Aide which supports StarDict dictionary packs
• Online thesaurus with a list of synonyms and antonyms
• In addition to that, you can quickly switch to Wikipedia for additional information and Wiktionary for languages that currently do not have offline access. You can do this in any language! Just modify it in the settings.
• Expand This gives you system wide text expansion. You can define a macro (shortcut) like @addhome to type your full home address! Very useful if you type something often.
Just set a shortcut and let Text Aide do the rest!
• Search You can add a list of your favourite search engines and access them quickly from a sidebar. Also includes a floating browser
• First way is to use Copy Aide and enable the search button from the notification.
• Second is to share the text and then select 'Enhanced Search' from the dialog
• Third is to use the search button in AOSP (based) browsers or apps like Wikipedia.
• It can also be done using the homescreen widget
• Share You can do the following things by sharing text
• Copy - As the name suggests, you can copy it from the share menu
This will also be shown in browser selection menu (when you tap on a link).
• Dial You can use the shared text to place a call.
• Open As URL - This allows you to open the selected text in the web browser as a URL/link (if it's valid).
• Speak Using this feature, you can make (almost) any text on your device speak using TTS engine.
This can be very useful if you're learning a new language!
Please watch the video for a good demo on how to use it.
Xposed gives you additional control. You can double tap a TextView (which means fields like WhatsApp chat bubbles, YouTube comments, Play store description, etc) to force selection.
This, however, has some limitations and might not work in all apps.
You will also get all the five buttons (Define, Dial, Search+, Share & Speak) in the contextual action bar on selecting some text in most apps.
For Chrome, you can use my module called Chrome Selection Patch
Browsers like Dolphin, Opera, etc are not supported
Installation
Download from Play Store or Xposed repository and install as any other app
Known Bugs
Overflow button gets camouflaged if the background of action bar is white (Android bug)
Selection handles and paste button overlap the overflow menu
Anything else? Let me know
To Do
HTC Compatibility
Add more search engines
Upload to Github for translations, etc
Browser support
Thesaurus
Update dictionary
More ideas are welcome

3.2

For Xposed users, this is useful in apps like Google messenger where double tap doesn't work.
3.1
The app is now free on Play Store. To donate, please use in-app payment.
- A new feature called "Copy to define." Just copy the word to get it's definition. Enable it from the settings.
- Support for Play Books. Use "Web Search"
- [Xposed] Enforce action item to prevent overflow menu
- [Xposed] SystemUI blacklisted by default, to prevent interference
- Some other minor enhancements
3.0
- Much awaited WebView support is here. Xposed is not needed but an option is planned for future. Just use the Share button and hit Define. Works in browsers, news apps, e-book readers, etc
- Wiktionary added. Default language can be set as needed.
- Two new utilities for sharing.
Copy which will show up in Share and Browser complete action menus
and Open as URL which can open the selected text in a browser
2.8
- Added Wikipedia (requires internet permission)
- Pop-up is now an activity. In other words, you can change any settings without requiring a reboot. It might also fix incompatibility issues with some Samsung and LG devices (not tested. Please report on the thread)
- You can now select the views you'd like to keep. Default is set to English and Wikipedia
- Wikipedia's langauge can be changed according to your needs. Default set to English (en)
- Blacklist added for double tap feature as it has been problematic in some apps
- Some other minor changes
2.7
- Double tap to make TextView selectable. Works in most apps! Exceptions found so far are Tapatalk, Google messenger, CyanogenMod MMS app. Could be more but works fine in WhatsApp, Xposed installer logs, YouTube comments/description, etc
- "Test Define" option inside settings to preview all the settings without rebooting again and again!
- Custom font to maintain consistency across all devices.
- Font size mechanism changed. Lesser steps but more (and better) control
- Other miscellaneous changes
2.6

- Fixed the font colour being camouflaged in pop-up language selector window (for some devices). Thanks to @Bajanman for reporting
2.5
Lots of additions to Define
- 4 more languages added. French, German, Italian and Spanish.
- Ability to quickly switch languages from the pop-up itself
- Default font size can now be set according to personal preference
- Added gravity customisation to display the pop-up at top, center or bottom
- Popup is now default. Browser search has been removed
- Misc improvements to the pop-up dialog
- Material design
- Edit fields in Chrome browser patched (Define not available)
- French translation thanks to @Micks29
2.1
Quick fix update
- Improved pop-up: Smaller size and better padding. Must look much better now
2.0
Major Release!
The Define framework has been revamped completely!
It was previously based on xDictionary's code, and hence used "WordNet" database for definitions. Unfortunately, it lacked many words, as you must have experienced.
Now, Text Xposed has switched to Livio's Dictionary Provider code.
Advantages
- The most obvious advantage is that the module's size has shrunk to ~50 KB.
- The defintion is now displayed using WebView, so you can pinch to zoom and select text inside it to copy or share
- Livio's dictionary is very comprehensive. You can even search for small words like is, that, etc. And it gives you etymology, synonyms, translations, etc along with the defintion!
- The module and dictionary app complement each other really well. You have a different UI to search for words, when Text Xposed is not accessible.
- You get proper and direct updates for the dictionary from Play store and I don't have to worry about maintaining the dictionary.
- Livio provides more dictionary packs for Italian, French, German and Spanish. Support for these will be added eventually, but low priority for now.
If there are many requests, I might do it earlier though.
Other Changes
- Toast is now gone. Although, it is possible to extract a part of the definition, I felt the main chunks were still too big for a toast.
- I will, however add a time-out option for the pop-up.
- HTC compatibility implemented. Need some more feedback though
- Code Cleanup
TL;DR - Just tell me what to do
- Ok so first of all, delete the "xdictionary" folder. It is no longer needed.
- Then you need Livio dictionary. Either download from here, or press the Define button after a reboot. It will show you a dialog with the link
1.1
- Fixed Define for some devices
- Changed toast for dictionary data copy confirmation
- Other minor changes
1.0
- Initial
Chrome Selection Patch

AND Search in Incognito mode.

By “pops up” you mean next to the paste button?
And yes web view needs define option. Added to my to-do list! But some browsers use custom action bars. Might not work with those

I meant the screenshot in my first post. The app I'm using there is WhatsApp. And since you have a Nexus, it should work without any problem.
I'll take a look at your log
Were the dictionary files copied properly. You should've seen a “Done” toast appear?
screenshots
here some screen shots just in case
i did say successfully installed ,it is 33mb 9 files . and i can define the word test within ur app .

And I don't think there are any errors related to this module in your log. Will have a look again in the morning.
No problem . tomorrow is another day . hopefully we'll find out what went wrong . thanks a lot & good night.

Hi,
I download an .apk with this link :
HTML:
https://maven.cyanogenmod.org/artifactory/gello_prebuilds/org/cyanogenmod/gello/
For me, it's by far the best browser i ever try. But I can't choose DuckDuckGo in search engine menu. However, I see it on an old video and on a screenshot. Is it normal ?
The browser with the smoothest scrolling on my S6 on MM! Night mode is excellent and doesn't affect images.
Well done!

I try it but that doesn't fix my issue. In fact, my phone uses French languages. When I use English, I can choose DuckDuckGo. I look your sources codes, and in /res/values-fr-rFR/donotttranslate-search_engines.xml , I don't have DuckDuckGo :
Code:
<resources xmlns:xliff="urn:oasis:names:tc:xliff:document:1.2">
<string-array name="search_engines" translatable="false">

google

yahoo_fr

bing_fr_FR

</string-array>
</resources>
I am not sure it's the real problem because DuckDuckGo already appear in /res/values/donotttranslate-search_engines.xml
Code:
<resources xmlns:xliff="urn:oasis:names:tc:xliff:document:1.2">
<string-array name="search_engines" translatable="false">

google

baidu

yahoo

bing

A few points that I want to note:
-Where is the 'promised' integrated ad blocker? Was it just removed or will it be implemented in a future version
-Why does this browser needs to reload background tabs when accessing them? In this way opening many tabs in the background is almost completely useless, when you have to rely on the short amount of available mobile data
-Saving pages for offline reading is nice. However, I miss a swipe feature to change quickly between the different pages. Also there is no way to delete all of them at once?
-What is the actual impact of the energy mode? Any ideas?
Is there a way to get directly into touch with the developers? Is there a official board of CM and if yes, where do I find it?

Sry, didn't mean to be demanding. I think the browser is well done already, just wanted to express a few of my personal observations. Never intended to be offensive.
I read the OP, however, I am not a user of google+ so it's hard to get into touch with the devs over there
- Adblock would be great, I'm looking forward to this feature.
- I don't use any apps to clean the cache. So, is this behavior that background tabs are reloaded when accessing them supposed to be unnormal?
-Would be great if it could be added. Thank you!
- Alright, so I shouldn't open to many tabs in energy mode, right?
Thank you so far!

Hey everyone. I'm the developer behind Fishpowered browser. I've been working on this in my spare time for the past couple of years and am starting to feel more comfortable in sharing my progress!
Here are some reviews from the Play store to whet your appetite...
This is THE BROWSER! There is simply nothing like it out there! I'm a geek obsessed browser lover and I cannot believe it! It has it all! Speed, customisation, takes very little space! And the cats on top of all as if it wasn't enough with just being the best there is!

Epic!! Developers might have gone and made the best browser app for Android. Customisation options are great.

Im absolutely blown away how good this browser is, and its super user friendly. And I really love the gestures. Keep up the awesome work.

I've totally just over hyped it but I needed your attention. This is actually my first android app (I'm a web dev by trade) and my technical abilities don't match my ambition yet, but it's getting a little closer with every release!
Why should you care about Fishpowered browser?
There are browser conventions that are widespread and probably shouldn't be e.g. UI layouts that require hand gymnastics, "bookmarks", browsing history etc. I've tried to re-design everything with a fresh pair of eyes.
What are my motivations?
Having a successful project
Building something that protects my privacy and lets me uninstall many other apps on my phone
Making a browser that gets rid of all the spammy cr*p you see on sites these days
Helping people out with internet addiction and responsible internet/phone usage. This is not something that's actually in the browser yet (I've been trying to build a solid base first) but is coming in the future and I have some interesting ideas for it.
Making a browser that works well with one hand
Making a browser that's good for language learning (I'm trying to learn Finnish)
How do I make money?
I don't. There is zero ads/spyware/crapware and there never will be. If it ever gets really popular (maybe 100k+ active users? I dunno haha) I would monetise it by selling themes and accepting donations. Nothing that compromises anyone's privacy. But I only have a few hundred users so I guess that's not likely to ever happen.
Is it open source?
Nope, not while it's still being developed. You can follow the development and see the code on Twitch though (channel: fishpowered)
How can I trust this?
Good question which is unfortunately difficult to answer. As mentioned above I try to do a lot of coding on twitch. I also made a video where I download Fishpowered and the major anti-virus apps from the play store and ran through all the tests so you don't have to: www.twitch.tv/videos/877039346 If you watch the video you'll see why this would be incredibly hard for me to fake because of the infinite picture in picture.
Do not trust any download links outside of this post and Google play store as I have nothing to do with all those other APK sites.
What's bad with it/still left to do?
It's built on the Android webview component which is essentially a wrapper for Chrome. This has the advantage that you get security updates instantly (whenever Chrome is updated) but also has some limitations as it wasn't really designed for being a full-on web browser. For example, I try to add a lot of context sensitive help e.g. if you select some metric/imperial unit in a recipe, it will convert the unit for you, but things like this won't work inside webpages that use iframes (e.g. Google AMP) because webviews can't view selections inside an iframe. Performance isn't amazing either, if you have an old device, you may struggle a bit.
Lastly there are some other things that could obviously be added/improved but simply don't make sense for me to spend time on yet if they will take ages or are very niche features, it's just me working on it in my spare time.

Wow, a powerful browser with 3.7Mb app size... Gotta try that
Recommendations
Ability to import bookmarks
Ability to not play videos instantly when page opened(site settings)
When typing an address of a site that visited before, whole address of that site can appear in the address bar
When typing something in address bar, search results should be positioned below the middle of the screen, close to the address bar(to help one hand usage)
When using swipe up to close a tab, it should also check the swipe speed/distance of finger, instead of checking only swiped-to position in order to make fast but short distance swipes work
Thanks for the feedback. Most of this was already on my todo list. The bottom alignment of the search results is tricky though without completely changing how the speed dial works as those screens show all sorts of things and the point is u can filter those as well, not just the suggestions. I will try to improve it as I obviously want it to work on phones with tall screens too
Bruh, this is my new Naked Browser. Love it! My only future request is to be able to arrange the favorites..drag and drop maybe?
Browser keeps logging me out sites after some time. If I go into incognito mode, I'm logged out when I return to default tabs.

Should be fixed in 1.4.0! Never thought this was possible due to not being able to change the default cookie manager but I found a workaround.

You can set incognito mode to "Lite" which will still block 3rd party/tracking cookies but cookies belonging to the sites themselves/such as logins are not cleared when exiting incognito mode.

This works for me.
Great browser, been using it as my main browser for 2 days and it works well, sans packed with nice features.
Only issue I've encountered so far is that LastPass isn't working properly. Instead of detecting which website I'm browsing, LastPass only detects the browser itself (eg. Fish powered) so it doesn't propose any password for the site I'm on.

I've submitted a bug report to Google. Unfortunately the autofill API doesn't work and the console log gives me no useful indication as to why and documentation is scarce. You might be able to workaround this by pinning your current tab to the mini window and then trying from there as it least in the preview window the autofill works with Google's default autofill

I was having the same issue with Vivaldi browser for Android. I looked on their forums and they have a thread regarding this. The devs on there have talked about this same issue and apparantly it's not something easy to fix... Here's the thread, if it has any value to you :
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/40036/lastpass/20
Specifically in the last page:
In order to support Android Autofill API, we need to get on Android's compatibility list. How to get on this list is something the team has been trying to figure out, but we've exhausted quite a few options without much success.

Thank you bruh. I understand that you are still learning. I would like the ability to drag and drop tabs. Also, could you make the option to make tabs smaller so we can fit more than 3? I will now go to donate.
1.4.0 Released! Will be available on Google Play Store in the next 1-7 days (once it gets approved).
Alternatively, check the OP for apk download although if you are already installed using the play store it is recommended to stay on that.

My thoughts:
1) needs setting to enable desktop mode by default. the desktop toggle always resets to OFF when you enter a new url. some websites detect the device and forces redirect to mobile site pages and doesn't allow desktop view.
2) backup and restore all active tabs and settings. for long term use and saving all actives tabs to say, an html file or plain text.
3) html content hide feature is awesome, very nice. dark mode is great.
4) more quick actions and customisations please
will keep on using daily to test and report on bugs.
