Lock Internet access after installing VPN or firewire - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a problem running programs such as VPN or firewall on the cell. These programs completely block my access to the Internet even though the connection to the wifi is very good and yet I can not connect to the Internet. Everything is back to normal after switching off the work of these programs. I tried different programs and each causes the same effects. What could be the reasons? thank you

Treo 750 WM6 T-Mobile and VPN

Hi all
I recently purchased an unlocked Treo 750 with use on T-Mobile. This replaced my 700w on Verizon.
I have internet working fine, MMS reprogrammed and working. However I seem to be having problems with VPN on the phone itself.
If I tether the treo to my laptop and use it as my internet connection, I can initiate the VPN client on my laptop and all is fine.
The problem is the VPN on the phone itself when using trying to use applications directly on the phone requiring VPN (ie without the laptop). I configured it, it connects fine, however when trying to use IE or remote desktop it fails to connect.
I get a 503 error in IE on each url I try through the VPN. Makes me think it's trying to hit a proxy of some kind outside of the connection manager.
I've also tried using internet2.voicestream.com as opposed to the default wap.voicestream.com... both function identical and at same speeds. I have the total internet add-on data package.
Remote desktop fails with network not found... which kind of hints at a proxy also.
Note that I do not have any proxies set in the Connections manager, makes me think there is something hard coded.
I have checked the registry for the AutoEnable thing for proxies, but in WM6 this is already set to a value of 1.
Any advice is welcomed
If it is a PPTP VPN connection you are probably screwed, it is slowly emerging that there is a problem with the implementation of MPPE used in WM for PPTP VPN connections. I.e. VPN connects but NO traffic Tx/Rx.
Best bet, try and get your IT to setup the PIX to use L2TP/IPsec I have heard numerous reports that there are no problems with the implementation standard of that VPN connection in WM5/6/6.1.

[Q] [i9003] wifi problems [connectify+wifi+proxy server]

ok, so i've searched around a LOT and just can't seem to find a solution anywhere.
so here's how it is. i connect to the internet on my PC through a LAN connected to a proxy server. so i bought a USB wireless adapter, and i used connectify to create a virtual hotspot. i rooted my phone and use AutoProxy (or sometimes ProxyDroid) to configure proxy settings. initially i wasn't able to use the net on my phone using this network, and everytime i tried to open a page on my phone, the wifi network would disconnect. after some tweaking i've managed to make the net work for the browser on the phone. however, everytime i try to connect to an https server, it says "secure connection could not be established". and i can't use the net for any of my apps, or for the market.
Basically, All these piece of "Very Improtant Developemental Ideas" (Which mean Useless, non-developemental Ideas) Must be thrown to the Q&A man!

I dont understand why do you use other applications to use internet only on browser, there is alredy proxy setting on your i9003 unless you have flashed it with CM7. Use the Proxy settings on the Wireless settings to use internet on your browser.
Regarding other application I have also tried lots of other 3rd party apps like you but was not able to run internet on other applications and inbuilt browser also but then I see no point of using other app just to use internet on browser.

what im saying is that with the proxy settings in advanced wifi settings or with a proxy software like autoproxy, i can only access the net on my stock browser, and i am unable to open https pages, and when i say i cant use net on other apps, i dont mean other browsers, i mean just normal apps like chat clients and the market.

it may/may not have anything to do with it, but is your USB wifi secured w/password?

1. why use connectify to create a hotspot? i mean as soon as you got your wifi adapter setup, you can connect to that wifi... no need for anything else, or do i misunderstand something?
2. proxy wise... do you have to start up the proxy each and everytime you want to use it on your pc or is the modem connected to the proxy? if its the latter, just setup the wifi adapter and connect to the wifi from phone, all done and set, no need to play around with settings...
3. if you have to start up the proxy each time you want to use it, there are other proxy apps, that create a connection to a proxy and you dont have to play around with settings, used some of them before, rather slow, but usually working... (i think i used GAE proxy)
4. VPN FTW

yeah, i use connectify to create a WPA2-PSK secured access point.
hmmm, so regular http works, https doesn't work even though your wifi is secured, sounds like a browser issue. have you tried other browsers?

yeps, same problem. and the biggest issue isnt reall ythe https websites, its the fact that i cant use apps or the market.
do you know anyone that owns a wireless router, so instead of a usb wireless you could use the entire internet wireless? that way, you could see if it's an issue with the usb or your phone.

it's possible that there's something wrong with the usb then. did you try to exchange it where you bought it?

VPNs and tethering (oh my)

Hi
I'm just making this post as I can't really see any solutions for this.
Let me first explain the situation we're in, we have a bunch of laptops that need access to the internet and this building provides free wifi, YAY. The problem is, the wifi is unstable where we are, randomly doesn't allow computers to connect to it, and drops computers from the network for no reason. The landlord is pretty much unhelpful here, and we're only here for 2 weeks so we're just living with it right now.
I have a contracted phone with unlimited data that I tether with USB to my computer and then run a VPN on the computer which works fine for me, but I want to get the other laptops connected too.
The problem is my phone hasn't got tethering, so as soon as it detects a user agent that corresponds with a desktop based browser, it blocks the data connection until the signal is completely reestablished.
This is even a problem for my laptop as sometimes theres a random HTTP request that blocks the connections before the VPN can connect.
So the solution I really want for this is a VPN to be running on the phone, and then a hotspot to run on the phone. Then the laptops can connect to the phone and theoretically be behind the VPN, so everything can be connected and the connection won't get blocked.
I've tried all the iptables forwarding and masquerade rules to no avail, OpenVPN with "Use default route" to force all routes through the VPN also does not allow any computer on the hotspot to connect to get a data connection.
For more info, the phone is a SGS3 i9300 which is currently running the latest CM10.1 nightlies. The VPN is from HMA.
Does anyone have any suggestions for this?
Thanks for the time.

Blocking offensive online content connected via mobile data

Hi,
At my home I use OpenDNS and a Netgear R7000 router with custom word filters. While I managed to block pornographic material from all devices connected to the router, I am unable to filter the mobile data. The OpenDNS settings work when the android device is connected to the wifi and not using its own data. I have tried using apps like Net Nanny, however those apps only force the users to use its own browser which is fine most of the time when the user is browsing the internet. It will not work if the phone is tethered to the PC utilising its own mobile data. Simply tethering the phone via USB or wifi and using its own data, a user can download a tunnelling app, install it on the PC and use the tunnel browser and browse like normally. I do not think my mobile phone provider has an OpenDNS option.
I think there are two methods to go about this:
1. Either disable USB and Wifi tethering option for the device - (the device cannot be use as a tethering device which is ok most of the time until when the tethering function is really needed) or
2. Forcing the mobile data through the OpenDNS port with the help of some sort of app/setting which is password protected.
Password protecting an app/setting is possible I think as Avast AV has an option to lock an app. I am not sure if I can create a Tasker (app) profile that detects/knows the phone is in the house and disables the tethering function. Any ideas? I do not want to resort removing the data plan as communication is done via whatsapp, email etc.

VPN breaks internet access

I have tried about 10 different VPN apps and they all connect to their respective servers but each and every one of them break internet access after connecting. I can use WiFi but as soon as the VPN connects, internet access is lost and I can't open webpages (or web related app usage). Anyone has any advice?
