Photos doesnt show on N roms - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone! I have a problem with every N rom i've tried, that in some app like google photos, the default wallpaper picker, and the inbuilt file manager, lot of my camera pictures (from a specific date), and some of my wallpaper folders doesn't show up. But in other apps like totalcommander or Quickpic they are there. Do you guys have any ideas what's causing this? On MM roms everything works fine, and i haven't read anything like this from other users. I would appreciate any help or idea

Thanks, but permissions are set. Its like i have my photos from the day i got the phone until this April. And the photos i tooke since then doesnt show up on any N rom. If i snap a pic now its gona be there, but if i change to a different N rom or just do a clean flash, then the last photos the apps gonna show, those will be the ones i took in april. And with other wallpaper directories, the half of them are there but the other half is missing.

Are your photos dependent on Google Photos? Maybe they're in the cloud and can be accessed on another device.
Also, use a root file manager to search your device for all *.jpg.

Camera delete your foto if you don't use Google Plus!

I'm on 4.4.2 and I've found a very serious bug that made me lose a couple of photo, here's how to reproduce it:
Assume that you don't use Google+ and you keep it disabled on your phone (manage application > google+ > disable), so you don't have the Photos app in your drawer too
Open the camera
Swipe right in photos
Look at topleft, you'll find the Photos icon, THIS WORK AS A NO-CONFIRMATION-DELETE button!
I've read about Photos becomes the default application swiping from camera in 4.4.1, so I may expect an error / force close but I could never imagine that...
Can anyone confirm this?
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/nexus/using-the-camera/nexus-5/HhmMfQki-Qs
that would be very bad. I just started using photos, but never using gplus!
I could reproduce this issue.

Yes, topleft, op edited.
Plese reply on google thread too (other user already confirm the issue), thank you
I fell victim to this yesterday! Very annoyed. I accidentally double tapped and deleted 2 photos in rapid succession when I only wanted to delete 1. I hope they patch this in the next update. Otherwise I'm going to have to try and remember not to delete photos from the Camera and go into Photos afterwards and do it there.
Update: Looked into recover options. Didn't find anything that will help me get back the already deleted file, but found something that will save me going forward. Already tested and confirmed recovery of a photo deleted directly from the Camera.
Installed Dumpster - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.baloota.dumpster
No root required, used the default setup and options.
Just download an alternate gallery like QuickPic. The Photos app is horrible, anyway.

This issue is from within the Camera app itself though, not Photos or Gallery.

Just delete Google+
I assume you don't use Google+ from the title so just delete the app (Google+) If You can't then it's a system app so you have to download something like "NoBloat" or "System App Uninstaller" so that you can remove Google+ Completely.

Deleting Google+ from system/app does Not resolve the problem. I wish it did.
Disabling (or deleting) Google+ CREATE the problem.
That's because Camera app has some reference to it and a crazy behavior when didn't found it!

Hey. I've been using XDA- Developers since my samsung galaxy S2 then the S3 then the Note 2 and Now The Nexus 5, Of course I want to post in the dev section... You've been me at some point. Camera is one of the easiest thing to get wrong in any ROM so many variables take part into it, the ROM, Kernel and Mods. Since when Franco Kernel was bad????...It's the best plus I use a modded version of Franco Kernel made by LaboDj in which he uses Linaro

Since the camera ties into the Photos app, and the Photos app is a part of Google+, it's not surprising disabling Google+ with break something. Just like disabling any /system app it can cause problems. It even states that in the dialog. "If you disable a built-in app, other apps my misbehave."

Steps as outlined in the OP are inaccurate based on the subject itself, and I think things got further muddled by the incorrect use of terms (Photos vs Delete) and location (top-right vs top-left etc.)
To clarify: the issue as I understand it (and can reproduce 100% of the time) is that from within the Camera app you can permanently delete a photo without confirmation, by clicking the Delete trashcan icon in the top-right.
Steps to reproduce:
Open the Camera app
Swipe from the RHS to view photos
Click the Delete trashcan icon in the top-right
Photo is permanently deleted without any confirmation (Undo will be available for the last deleted photo only, and only if there is more than 1 photo remaining.)
Edit: Ok, now I'm confused. It seems perhaps I have misunderstood the issue being discussed, and that it is potentially related to disabling Google+ and the Photos icon in the top-left...
Issue that I described above is also/still an issue IMO. I don't like the fact that I could accidentally permanently delete a photo because I double tapped the Delete icon.

Lollipop Google+ & Photos

Hi there!
As many of you already noticed, the new Lollipop's Photos app doesn't work without Google+.
For many of you will be not a big deal, but for me and may be others too, it's really not god.
In my case I don't need or use Google+ and for worse, it takes a lot of CPU power.
The question is if there is a way or workaround to make the Photo app work without Google+?
Greetings!

Try Piktures on Google Play, nice piece of sw
The old Gallery app made my Picasa albums available on my phone. The only way to get this functionality back was to switch to Google+ and the Photos app. So I made the switch. I just didn't set up anything in Google+ and turned off all notifications.

Oh sorry, didn't think about editing - because I always use Aviary for it (and I suggest it to you too, especially now that are giving every single add-on iAP for free!).
It takes you directly to Photos because you have only that app to edit pictures (I suppose), in my situation (I froze G+ and Photos) when I try to edit a picture it opens automatically Aviary.
Hope this can help, prego!

[Q] trying to recover wallpaper photo

Several photos were inadvertently deleted, one of which was my lock screen photo, which I really want to salvage. I can't seem to find it anywhere on the phone. I've also tried Android file transfer, no luck there either. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. Stock android 5.0.1 if that matters. Thanks.

How was it deleted? Most of the time, if you delete something, it's gone.
If you mean you set a wallpaper then deleted the image and you think its recoverable because its still your wallpaper, well its not. It doesn't store the image anywhere.
If you're rooted, there are apps that may be able to recover the deleted photos
Yeah that's what I mean. I thought it would still be a data file somewhere.

Yep, its stored as data not as an image.
Ok, so it's stored as some kind of .dat file and therefore not recoverable in its original JPEG format. Is that correct?

If its something you got off the internet you could try taking a screenshot and using a reverse image search service like Google Images or Tineye.
Like Rootsu said, try this app in the play store "diskdigger".
I lost a load of photos after an update, this app found all of them.
It will also find a lot of junk so it will take you a while to sort through everything.
Needs root.

It usually creates an additional folder, where the images get stored.
If you can't see them trough album, then try File commander-pictures.
They should show somewhere there.
Have you tried restarting the phone?
Try to download an additional galery app from playstore.
If they are still not displayed, then just doa factory reset on the phone, of course backup any important data before that and then see what happens. I've never heard of something like that, but it might just be a glitch.
Try a different gallery app like Quickpic

What is multi-app under storage?

I use an OnePlus 6 with Android 10, and the same oxygenos. My storage is pretty much full, and when I go to settings -> storage, I see most of it is taken by multi-app. On going to settings-> storage -> multi-app, I see a category photos and videos with the same usage, but I do not see any file in it. I tried looking it up everywhere, there isn't a single mention of it anywhere which is weird. Could someone tell me what it is, and how can I make some space thus. I am attaching the screenshot below.
