Questions about XZ rooting. - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
So yesterday I picked up the Xperia XZ which looks amazing however I've noticed that there are no methods around to root it without unlocking the bootloader first.
When (if ever) are these methods expected to start popping up? Sorry for seeming impatient but I'm holding off on using my XZ and sticking with my Z3 until I can get my new phone rooted :crying:
With my older Xperia phones I was able to backup the TA partition and restore it at a later time but this requires root also to begin with
Is there anyway to pre root an FTF and flash this in with flashtool?
Thanks for any help and answers in advance.

I'm at the same stage as you. I have my XZ, but still using my Z3 bacause of root. I think that rooting on XZ will take a lot of time, none of the X xperia series has been rooted, in short, Marshmellow is not rootable at the moment.
Our wishes are on Dirty-Cow Exploit, but that is an universal exploit, and even if someone acomplish to make at least a temporal root, then we well need someone that adapt that exploit for XZ model. So, there is a lot of time ahead, and I'm almost about to unlock the bootloader. it's hard to ressist.

[Q] EZ-Unlock, safe or not?

Hello eveyone,
Well, I currently possess a Sony Xperia E C1505, running 11.3.A..13. After a month it began to lag like hell, apps were autoclosing and go on... So I decided to root it, and it didn't work. Long story short; I rooted it and I wanted to unlock my bootloader to put a custom rom on it, and... my phone got in a bootloop! (see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2445484) I recovered my phone, so that isn't my problem. My problem is that I want to unlock my bootloader in a safe way, because I don't want to go through the hassle of recovering my phone again!!!
So my question is: will the EZ-Unlock tool(http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32456-app-920-ez-unlock-14-easiest-way-to-unlock-your-bootloader/) cause damage to my device, if unlocking the bootloader fails? I know that it was originally made for the S3, but I read that it is also possible to unlock other devices with it. And if it won't work, can you guys recommend me another app/simple tool? I already used the BLU button in Flashtool, and bricked my phone, so I'm a bit scared to use it again.
Sorry if my story is hard to understand...

It only works for phones made before August 2012 , I'm pretty sure Xperia E was made after that date meaning the boot.img flashed by EZ-Unlock is not Compatible with Xperia E, The hassle-full way is safer

You're definitely right! The E comes from November 2012. So it has to be the hassle way...
Luckily I now know how to fix it, so that's one advantage
I'll try it out tomorrow, and we'll see!
Thanks for your fast reply!

Hello guys,
I have another question; if my phone got in a bootloop the first time I unlocked my bootloader, how can I be sure it won't happen again?
Because I really don't want to have my phone stuck in a bootloop again... I can tell you one thing: that sucked!
Please don't see me as a noob, who doesn't know what he is doing, because I know what to do when you get stuck in a bootloop. It's just that I really hate to do it again!

[Q] TA backup question based on previous Xperias

Hi guys,
Long time Android hacker, first time Sony user.
Im sorry if this has come up before but i have a question about the Bootloader unlock and TA partition wipe.
Based on experience of say the Z2, even if you acquire root first and backup your TA partition, are you able to run custom roms/kernels with the DRM/screen/camera optimizations at the same time? Or is the only point of the backup to restore if you are re-locking the bootloader?
I ask because if i cant have the screen optimization and root at the same time, i wont bother waiting to see if a root exploit becomes available as ill never run the phone stock anyway. If based on previous phones it might be possible to have both once you have a backup i will probably wait as i have other phones to use.
Thanks for your time.
With an unlocked bootloader you cannot have those DRM keys
If you restore the TA backup then you automatically relock the bootloader as well.
You can not have your cake and eat unfortunately.

No, backup is only if you want to relock bootloader and run Stock rom again.
You cant use DRM with other ROMS/KERNELS
EDIT
Sorry gregbradley, you was a little bit faster
Thanks for the quick response guys.
Looks like I'll start the unlocking process and get this baby up and running!

Just a quick note, if you unlock before you backup the TA partition, you will never be able to restore the DRM keys

Just got a new Z3 and want to root

So I just got my new Sony Xperia Z3 but unfortunately it's D6603 model so no 32GB goodness which means I probably need Link2SD as I'll end up with probably about 10GB user available storage after all the updated which means I need to root.
I haven't even turned the phone on yet, it's still sitting there charging, but let's assume for a moment that it's not yet on Lollipop and still running KitKat which should mean I have various easy rooting methods at my disposal, right?
So what I'm asking is what would be the easiest (and most universal/in other words covering the most versions) root I could use.
I don't care about custom this or whatever, I want to keep my phone as stock as possible, I just want to be able to use Link2SD and maybe Titanium Backup, so if possible I'd prefer not to add a custom recovery or mess with anything beyond getting root access for those 2 apps.
I know I will have to check the bootloader first (I assume it's already unlocked though given the phone it's an international version that isn't carrier locked but that's a different problem anyways). But after that is there a recommended one-click root to use that alters as little as possible and covers as many android versions as possible? Or something almost as easy?
I don't want easy because my technical knowledge is lacking by the way, I want easy because the fewer steps there are the less I can screw up and I'm terrified of bricking the phone....so terrified I've resisted rooting my previous two android phones even after getting replacement phones, but I really need Link2SD now.
Should I use Kingroot and then replace the king Super User app with normal SuperuserSU?
Can I still keep root by doing a PC update instead of an OTA one?

Search forums. You can have Z3 rooted on both locked and unlocked bootloaders or or install custom fw.

I know there are many options, I was hoping to be pointed to what someone considers the ideal easy way. My very problem was that I was inundated by potential rooting options but many either modified more than I would have liked or some seemed suspect/too good to be true (no way there are 30 accepted one-click root programs for this phone) so I'd been hoping someone would help me find the right tree in the forest of options I was looking at.
Anyways today I finally turned the phone on and to my great dismay found that it was already fully up to date (well our local network OTA updates may be a revision or 2 behind international updates) and running Lollipop 5.02 and I gave up all hope then there but Kingroot looked so easy that I decided to try it anyways and to my great surprise and tremendous delight it worked perfectly. Downloaded rootchecker and I'm fully rooted. Tried Link2SD and I'm extremely pleased to say that I have all of Asphalt 8 - Airborne's massive bulk as well as Spiderman Unlimited taking up space on my SD card and most of my user available internal storage remains unused.
I think I'm going to stay with KingRoot's app though and not switch to SuperSU, I don't want there to be any chance of losing this root access (I know it shouldn't happen but I desperately need Link2SD to stay happy so I don't want to rock the boat in any way).
So I guess this thread can be closed now.

Thanks. I ended up using Kingroot before this already because when I turned the phone on for the first time I saw that it was already on 5.02 which I thought made it unrootable (without a custom rom, but I may have missread something somewhere) so I decided give it a Hail Mary try and it worked!!
I think I'm going to stick with KingRoot's app though and not replace it with SuperSU, I just don't want to rock the boat and lose that root access (I know it can be done without losing it, but I'm super paranoid).

I would be more paranoid about using quite unknown app instead of rock solid and proven SuperSU..

I don't have anything sensitive on my phone, I'd prefer they didn't spy on me of course but as far as I'm concerned they can have every shred of info they want. All I need is root access for Link2SD, I don't need the rock-solid and proven SuperSU for that and I don't want any more features incase that offers more.
Since KingRoot has given my phone a chance at a decent life I'm willing to trust them until being shown info to the contrary (and I mean more than just them knowing my IMEI number).

Besides having the more trusted app what would I gain from SuperSU? Does it to do more? Besides the engrish the Super User app from Kingroot seems fine.
Can SuperSU also unroot my phone again (should I need to warranty claim) and also try to keep the root permanent even when updates happen (which Kingroot apparently tries to do even if it likely won't work)?
Oh by the way one more question with regards to rooting. Back when I had my Xperia neo apparently OTA updates would make you lose root but doing an update via the Sony PC companion program could maintain the root...is that still the case? Or do I lose root no matter what now?
Pc companion is a worthless pos. Believe me. Look for alts, anything that works with android to your liking. You'll be much happier. Kingroot is not needed AT ALL. Plus I don't like the fact it calls home. Reminds me of the latest lenovo fiasco where programs within the bios are calling home-wtf! Use the tested working giefroot, flashtool, xzdr stuff. [Q] A way to root Nvidia Shield Tablet with Android 6.0?

Hello, I just received my 5th replacement Shield from Nvidia RMA and I'm thinking of doing things a little differently this time round. I wanted to ask if there is a way to root WITHOUT unlocking the bootloader or flashing a custom recovery, like you could in KK with Towelroot or in L with Kingroot. I checked the latest version of Kingroot but from what I found, it supposedly roots up to Android L so I thought I wouldn't try it. So, any ideas? Otherwise let me ask the pretty clichéd question (for which I have little expectations of a useful answer): is there any way to block ads without root access?

Thank you, I'll look into it!

Well I looked it up and it's a flashable zip so it makes no difference to me than unlocking the bootloader and flashing the SU we all know and love. Thank you for the suggestion though. I've found an adblocker that requires no root (it's called Adguard) but I'm currently on a free trial and I'll see what I'll do later cause the subscription is somewhat too expensive for my taste.

Root E6653 Running Firmware 32.1.A.1.185

I'm really hoping I can be hand-held here in rooting my E6653. I've been out of the rooting game for a while and the Z5 digging through guides and threads looks like a whole lot harder process!
What's the process I have to use get my phone rooted? I understand that I need to unlock the bootloader, which I'm comfortable in doing myself. I can see a downgrade will more than likely be required. Sorry for the noob questions, but I just want to make sure I'm performing the correct rooting process.
I really only want to root my phone to have the ability to use Viper4Android, otherwise I'm truly happy with the phone as it is.

Permanent Root is only available for UB only.
Currently UB poses problems with its DRM keys being lost forever.
You'll lose normal functions with the Camera, Bravia Engine, TrackID.. etc. dependent on the DRM keys stored on TA partition.
Before you perform UB you should backup your TA partition. using iovyroot. Better got a backup than sorry.
There are work around with the DRM problems, still it's better that you have a copy of the original TA you have on you device.
After that you can search for any possible ways to root your device.
