Need To Find A Specific Command - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

I can't for the life of me mount my system as r/w, but I remember a reboot command that worked like a charm.
It was something along the lines of reboot wvscmmd. If anyone can reply with the command, it'd be much appreciated!

Are you rooted?

I am.

Then just install a root explorer app and enable R/W where you need it
Root Explorer or ES File Explorer etc

I have done. ES File Explorer reports /system as busy, and Root Explorer does nothing.

Do other root apps work? Certain you are rooted?
Root Explorer has an R/W button at the top of the directory window you need to press to enable write support
ES File Explorer has a toggle switch in the left panel tools section to enable root access

Other root apps do indeed work, I have Lucky Patcher, Magisk, and Xposed installed.
The R/W button on Root Explorer does not show, and I can toggle root explorer in ES File Explorer, and mounting /system as R/W through it says it is in use.

There isn't a button to mount as R/W.

Then something has gone wrong somewhere, I'm not even rooted and the button is there
Have you disabled apps / bloatware?
Maybe you need to start fresh, either unfreeze everything, or reset

Every time I flash a ROM, I back up what I need, then wipe everything. So it's a clean install. There's no bloatware on the device, and the issue carries over multiple flashes.
I do know it can be fixed by the reboot code I mentioned, but I can't remember it.

If you're on a stock ROM, it's possible some file are flashing a stock recovery. Verify both of these are not present
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
With root, you can delete those without a problem and reflash CWM and it shouldn't get overwritten.
U can use the"one click root" method, there is option for recovery to stick.this is the way i did it 5 months ago.
yeah my phone is in stock rom. can you tell me how to delete those files? my phone is rooted definitely.
ES File Explorer, Root Explorer or any other file explorer with root functionality. Just delete the /system/etc/install-recovery.sh file.
i tried deleting the file install-recovery using root explorer but it says i cant delete it because it a read file only something like that. how should i delete it?
Look for options to mount /system as writable and make sure the app is running as root. After this it will work.

navigate to the system/etc folder using root explorer. press the button @ top right marked "mount r/w" delete the file then press "mount r/o" button, it is same button from before. back out of root explorer & reboot. screenshot of my system/etc folder, minus the recovery file since i'm on a skanky kang.

If you want to change that you will need:
-Root explorer (you will need to access system folders)
-Root
-Phone
1. Open your file manager
2. Go to /system and look for a file named build.prop
3. Open the the file in a text editor
4. Now search for the line ro.sf.lcd_density=160
5. Change 150 to 160
It should look like this:
6. Save and exit
7. Reboot
8. Apply your selected theme (I would recommend to reboot)
9. Open up again build.prop
10. Change 150 back to 160
11. Save, exit and reboot.
huge thanks!
thanks a lot, solved my problem.
but i have a question: do you need to change that value back to the original or it can stay at 150?
I'm using this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2161111 and tried doing this with es explorer but i'm unable to save the file after editing.
can anyone help?

I knew how to do that in the older es explorer. Now that it has updated to 3.0 I don't know how to do that. I know how to delete system apps but I cant do the other things like this one and make apps system apps. Can you explain it to me?
thanks
the new version of es has a little different setting for that, you should look carefully! to convert user apps into system apps you can use titanium backup app. it has this feature.

Where the F Does CWM Backups go?

In clockworkmod there is a tiny file that isnt the backup, but the backup is somewhere because i can use it in cwm....... ??????????? So frustrating
This.
I'd like to backup the CWM backups into my hard drive, is there any chance? Also the backups are dated on 1970 on mine, is that a thing?
Can they send the safety copy?, I need It urgently, my telephone has remained unusable and the last option is to restore a backup with the original rom.
Please
It's in the /data/media/clockworkmode/backups/

What's the explorer app required to get into these if I may ask? Sliding Explorer is mine but it doesn't seem to be able to navigate these folders. Root Explorer or ES File could do it?

You can use root Explorer to navigate it.. But you can't copy it.. You should use adb to copy it to your pc..

Enable root explorer feature in ES Explorer. Then you ll see the file in it. Then simply copy it to another directory.

Root Explorer no longer working.

For some reason I cannot use any root explorer. I am able to use any other rooted apps perfectly.
I fully wiped device, re-rooted, and returned to stock. Still cannot access root explorers.
Is there any reason this happened and is there a fix. Searching around leads to old results that don't give fixes for this issue.

Magisk SafetyNet
This is a known problem with ES File Explorer (I had the same complaint.) ES is a pretty old app, and checks root by looking for physical SU binaries in a specific place within /system. That was never a great approach vs. checking programmatically, though it worked ok back in the days of SuperSU. But Magisk is different: it makes no changes to /system (thus it's "systemless"), so the ES root check fails. ES would have to update the way it tests for root, and I wouldn't hold my breath waiting.
I'd suggest simply moving on to a newer file manager (hard for me as well, because I liked ES Pro and had used it forever!) I came down to Solid Explorer and MiX Explorer as the most similar to ES. They're so alike that for me it's almost a toss-up. Both have root access that works, as well as features ES didn't (like being able to select a range of files with two clicks.) There's also good old Root Explorer, but personally I found it harder to use than the other two, with no real advantages. Hope that helps!
Thank you for the excellent explanation! I appreciate it.
I was trying to use Solid Explorer as well, was the recommended solution to this error as well, but it just didn't seem to work as efficiently as ES.
I frequently manage files in the Root storage area. Solid doesn't give me 100% capability.
I'll give MiX a try!

With the information you provided I was able to get ES working again by installing busybox to system/bin

I'm Rooted and using Androids FX file Explorer, to try to add a ring tone to the ringtones system folder.

after android 8 (in preparation for project Treble), system partition is mounted during boot as read-only by default (as you can find out through the partition's mount flags). so there's 2 ways to achieve what you want:
you remove the shared_block feature from Super.img and mount system as R/W. There are tools to do this, but they're not tested on Samsung devices. Like this Tool.
you root your phone with Magisk and make a Magisk module to add your files systemless-ly. Here is the Developer Guide.
Of course, You would need an unlocked Bootloader. Here is the guide for Unlocking and Rooting. I also advise you to flash TWRP before experimenting with the Module you create. Good luck.
