[Completed] How to root a galaxy s5 g-900a - XDA Assist

Hi there, i'm new to the forums and need a little help on rooting my galaxy s5, i've been searching through the interent on how to root my device and a lot of the tell me to install heimdall and use that to flash the device with a new recovery, etc. well my problem here is that my PC is running linux mint 17.2 and although heimdall is supported for linux i can't seem to get it to download, i've even tried using the terminal with the <apt-get install> method but nothing has worked. If anyone has a way to root the device step by step using the terminal that would be great, also if you have a command to download heimdall as well it would be awesome. I need help ASAP, anyone!!!

Greetings and welcome to assist. I used this guide to successfully compile Heimdall on Linux mint
https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_and_compile_Heimdall
but you should be able to install it here
https://community.linuxmint.com/software/view/heimdall-flash-frontend
You do need to launch it in terminal though
Good Luck

install clockworkmod on mac snow leopard

I've asked this in many threads, but no answer.
I've been able to obtain root with clockwork recovery on my hero using my mac but now I have an epic4g and I've been able to gain root access on the epic using my mac, but I'm not able to install clockworkmod on it. I've tried rom manager, and it says that it's installed, but I'm unable to boot into clockwork recovery. I've tried via rom manager and via the vol down/camera/power keys and it always loads into the default recovery.
Any ideas on how to get clockworkmod on my epic using a mac (I have no access to windows and don't want to install windows on my mac just to install clockworkmod on my phone as once it's on there, I won't need it again.)
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
I'm looking forward to flashing some of the new roms on my epic.
Thanks!
not sure on mac but i have a linux script, not familar with mac os, i might be able to whip up a short little one tomorrow tho...
Second the request
I would also appreciate it. Although I have parallels installed I still run into many headaches with adb, would be very appreciative!
Any help would be appreciated. I've tried everything that I could find and got the phone rooted via mac, and I've tried to duplicate the commands in run.bat that I've found for installing clockworkmod, but it doesn't work. Thanks!
Would anyone be willing to tell me how they rooted on their mac?
Thanks in advance,
Chris
Someone ported a oneclick root for the mac, but it doesn't include clockworkmod.
ok guys here you go, i updated the mac osx script by baggage to include clockwork let me know how it goes
whoops forgot to add the file

I finally figured out how to get to clockworkmod! It took reading dozens and dozens of threads all the way through.
I can only access via the down vol, camera, power and then trigger update from the samsung recovery and then I have access to clockworkmod.
I'm finally glad that worked!
Still a bit cumbersome as I haven't found a way to get into clockworkmod directly either with rom manager or with button method. It's always a two-step process.
sounds like you flashed the patched one then used teh update, use teh one click i made and it will install 2.5.1.0 so no more needing to do that update.zip business
I have the 2.5.1 version. But I still have to do the update.zip thing.
I saw yours in my days of readings, but in the sake of time, can you show me the thread. I rooted using the one-click mac root but couldn't get clockworkmod to work, so I found another thread, downloaded the windows version, looked at run.bat in a text viewer and did all the commands manually. Most worked, but some did not, but I guess they didn't need to as it eventually worked.
just posted it above, mine original was for linux this one is new for mac os x

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S 4g SGH-T959V... impossible.

Is it just me or is it plain impossible to simple root this device.
If flashed with odin, everything in the forum looks like its bricked.
If using a mac, is it simply impossible to supply and updatable zip and flash th firmware?
What the hell is the deal?
I will happily offer a free website (I develop wordpress templates),
to the first person who can successfully guide me through the rooting of this phone. I will also be happy to host your site on my server, which is freakin massive.
It would be my pleasure to work with you and we could advocate the rooting of this phone sufficiently.
You also have the pleasure of delivering a wonderful contribution to this forum.
Thank you

version 2.2.1
kernel 2.6.32.9
build is the kd1, aka froyo.vuvkd1
If you have any suggestions, feel from to pm me. I'm new to think forum and have a thing or two to learn about rooting on samsung devices, but i have been reading for weeks and still can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I would flash with odin but I can't on mac and my virtual pc wont recognize the phone. Bloatware is better than a brick i guess.

Simple rooting
Christos,
If you are only looking for simple rooting, the 'superOneClick' at shortfuse-dot-org works just fine. I just used it on my GS4G (same kernel & build that you have) this past weekend, and I'm a total newby. But now can use Superuser apps (and 'su' from adb), and been cleaning out my bloatware.
Now... if you're wanting to flash a new ROM using Odin, don't think I can help you there
Good Luck,
Glenn
If your trying to root the phone via mac osx, I have yet to find a solution, currently only superoneclick works on windows. What I would love to find is a way to use odin on mac, as I can't get heimdale to work on my computer. Anybody know of a guide to help me get heimdale to run on my mac?
Thanks

I wish, I've had to steal my daughters laptop at least a dozen times last week, since its the only machine with windows(what can I say she's a kid and likes the sims). I have tried heimdall and it sees the device but cannot flash it, but that was not the newest version. Once rooted, assuming you are not testing random images, you would be able to flash with dd or recovery. Unfortunately you need odin to root ATM. I spent about a day trying to manually exploit a few adb bugs to gain root with no luck, so I gave up and took her laptop to root. I will say that if you make a bad boot or recovery image the phone will not fail back to the untouched working image and you will have to use odin again. If you get heimdall to work let me know. I think we should put up a bou.ty for s5 support un heimdall, I got 50 on it if someone contacts the author and gets some community support. I don't think enough people will back it though, since most people use windows

[Q] Trying to Uninstall and Delete OPO default driver

Hello everyone. I recently got an OPO from my friend. I am trying to clean it up and root it and install TWRP and all that stuff. I am trying to use the toolkit but to do that I believe I am required to remove the default driver and install ADB drivers. Unfortunately, when I try to uninstall the "A0001" from the device manager, it will let me uninstall but not detele (there is no tick option). Can someone please suggest how I can solve this problem? Thanks.

first off dont use a toolkit and learn how to do it the right way. Secondly have you simply tried to install proper drivers and boot into fastboot mode to check if they worked. I understand you have old drivers but that does not mean they do not work. I use a program called adb minimal which installs the right drivers all the time.
rooting is very simple with some very simple guides, please look into doing it manually since fastboot drivers load so much easier in my opinion. If you need a hand just ask me.

Tbh I am a newbie. I was using Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 with Wugfresh Toolkit and it was super simple. Hence my preference for using toolkits. I downloaded adb minimal but since I am new to this I don't know what to do from there. Can you please point me to somewhere I can specifically root/install twrp and all that for OPO using adb? Thanks.

Honestly to remove the noob tag things like reading up on manual root methods are a good thing. Now that being said generally in any thread in xda the general section will always have the best root method. Also it normally would be stickied and at the top.
here is a nice root method I used my friend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632
very simple and straight forward - the only difference would be the folder used. Since minimal places everything in your program files folder please make sure you transfer all files needed to that folder.
Again let me know if you need any further assistance.

[Completed] Root Galaxy S2 with Mac OS X Yosemite

I'm completely new to the whole rooting scene, so I need help with that, and from what i heard rooting with a Mac can be quite the task, given that I'm also using an updated version of Mac OS, i have been having a hard time figuring out how to flash files to my old S2 (which for the record, i don't use it that much, and if I were to brick it it wouldn't be the end of the world, just want to be introduced into the world of rooting. Mainly, Cyanogenmod was very enticing) So my question i guess is how would i go about rooting my phone. I've downloaded Heimdall in the hopes that i can use it to flash things to my phone.
I can imagine it's quite a simple task and I'm just being a complete dunce, but I can't figure out where to get the files to flash to install the recovery thats needed to install the CyanagenMod. I've tried to install clockwork mod recovery but couldn't figure it out with a mac, and mod manager (which i have come to find out i need my device to be rooted in order to use it [AGGGHH!!!])
