I'm curious of the same. I took a look at At&t's preorder page and the watches they are offering have direct TV and some other bloatware preinstalled so that may be an indication that the updates come from the carrier... Hoping not though.

The carriers. Non-LTE version gets updates from Samsung.

If Samsung takes over updating the carrier LTE watches, that would be a welcome change. As of now, on the Gear S2 3G & 4G family of watches, the carriers have been releasing the updates on their own schedule with AT&T being the best and Verizon & T-Mobile lagging behind.

Supposedly all USA variants do not have Samsung Dive (aka remote wipe/find from Samsung) Is there a way to add this to the Verizon version?

Not that it helps with getting the app much but I just use Lookout
Lookout charges for remote wipe, Dive doesn't and should be included as a Samsung product.

if its a app, then a international user should be able to extract it & then post it
Bump. I'd like this too.
Bump! Same here!
Does anyone have it working or know what's going on with it. All I have found was it was supposed to be working in November. Any ideas on it?

Yeah, probably will come enabled on Gear S3 and never on S2, so you have to buy a Gear S3. This is Samsung's marketing strategy.
Just bought the gear s2 classic T-Mobile and it has tap and pay pre-installed is this what you guys are asking about

Where are you located? I don't have that on my non-classic WiFi S2. Maybe it is only for the 3g models for now? I'm in the US outside of DC
I'm in Houston Texas. I noticed the software version is slightly different from the original gear s2

Are you able to use your T-mobile s2 classic to make purchases at NFC enabled terminals? We all have a "tap and pay" option listed under settings/connections/nfc, but so far, it does not work because Samsung has yet to enable the service with a firmware update (which it originally said would be enabled last fall, but then announced it had been pushed back to some time in 2016).
If yours actually works to buy things, that would be big news.
This is what it says so I guess not.
Are there carrier delays for firmware updates like with regular phones? My ATT S3 has yet to receive Samsung's latest firmware. I play not, ATT is a joke when it comes to firmware timing.
Yes there are usually delays with the carrier models. I have the Gear S2 and S3 on T-Mobile. I have always gotten updates for the S2 a little while after the wifi versions got the Samsung update.

Carriers are mostly slower to release firmware updates but sometimes faster.
From Nov of 2015 to Nov of 2016 for my AT&T Gear S2 3G, all firmware updates except for one came later than the unlocked Gear S2 models. AT&T was faster than Verizon & T-Mobile though.

So Gear S3 updates will come from the carrier as opposed to straight from Samsung?

Yes the carrier controls our firmware, think of it just like most cell phones. Usually the manufacturer releases an update and then each carrier will adapt it into their next firmware update. Right now only AT&T and T-Mobile have the LTE version of the S3. We will see which carrier releases an update first.
Who cares who releases 1st, they both take forever compared to Samsung, ugh! Combined with a $25 monthly (with taxes) on AT&T I'm leaning towards returning for LTE-less
Where's AT&T's update?!!
Seriously, since this got announced in May, has anyone on t-mobile gear s3. LTE gotten the software update? I'm starting to wonder if I have to figure a way to manually update the firmware soon.

I bought mine from a T-Mobile store this past Monday evening and it has 2.3.2.3 installed. Didn't check what version was on it when I bout it so unless it updated during the week and I didn't know about, that version was already installed out of the box.
Sent from my wickedly kewl Galaxy S8+ using my fingers. Duh!!!
Will there be an Oreo Beta in Canada? Was there one for nougat? Or would I have to wait for the official release?

They also told me to wait for good news for old Note7 owners in Canada and nothing came back positive. Search my post and similar screen shot of conversation i've had with them. Total bs. Not saying yours is too but I now do not believe anything they say.

They're just telling you what you want to hear... They also told to a guy here on xda that the snapdragon variant had an unlocked bootloader.
Beta
I do t believe anything Samsung says anymore they have lied over an over an given false info more then once..
I talked to chat support too and kept getting different answers. My bet would be were not getting the beta unfortunately and the eventually coming to Canada their talking about is the actual Oreo release.
I went to Samsung Support Chat today and enquired as to whether or not Canada was going to be receiving the Oreo Beta release - I was told that If & When - Samsung would send emails to the owners of the Canadian SM-G955W...... Did not sound very promising... But who knows? ?

This is from Nov 3rd
Oh yeah! It's coming....soon. And the check's in the mail moonopano.
