For those who switched from an HTC One..

How are you liking the Nexus 5? I really like my One, but I'm itching for a new toy. I love the sleek design of the Nexus 5, but don't know if it's worth the switch. Anyone willing to share some of their opinions?

I switched from a one... The only thing I miss about the one is the speakers and sound quality, besides that, the n5 blows it away.

Just switched 2 weeks ago due to QC issues on the HTC One (I was on my 4th unit). I really wanted to love the One but I just didn't want to play the refurb game anymore.. with that said here are some notes based on my experiences so far. I currently have the Black/White 32GB Nexus 5 which I have used for about 2 and a half weeks and had the silver HTC One 32GB for about 4 months.
Display: Both have fantastic displays. Nexus 5 does seem to have a bit more washed out colors but it's negligible in my opinion and it produces a more realistic color representation when both screens are on default calibration. I would give the slight nod to HTC in terms of quality, but a push overall since Nexus 5 has a bigger screen.
Radios/Call quality: I'm on T-Mobile currently and the signal strength for data and voice calls were pretty much even. I would actually give the call quality a slight nod to the Nexus 5 in terms of clarity on both ends. Both phones gave me no problems in terms of radio performance.
Camera: I read reviews where HTC One camera was getting critical acclaim.. I have no idea why. One camera had some great software features and the low light performance was OK, but overall I would take the Nexus 5 camera in a heartbeat. Nexus 5 camera provides more details obviously due to the higher pixel count, better color contrast and it just takes better pictures consistently in good lighting settings. Things to keep in mind though is that HDR mode takes great pics, but shutter lag is noticeable in that mode and camera recording is not possible in HDR so any low light enviornment produces basically pitch black video.
Performance: HTC is no slouch but the performance is definitely better on the Nexus 5. I'm not a gamer so I can't comment on that front, but apps open faster, browsing seems snappier, and it just seems more fluid.
Software: Nexus 5, no contest. Sense 5 is ok, but it had a lot of annoying features (app drawer in particular) that just annoyed me.
Hardware/Build Quality: Everyone knows the specs in and out by this point, so I won't go into that. HTC definitely feels more premium due to the aluminum chassis and it's a little more comfortable to hold due to the curved back. The HTC front speakers are also phenomenal... Nexus 5 does not compare. Now, all I said was that the HTC One FEELS more premium, I actually like the design of the Nexus 5 better due to the minimalist design and the black/white contrast along with a very light weight feel.
Battery Life: Honestly, the speakers and build quality is an added bonus but battery life is the most important feature for me on a phone. I have headphones on at all times, and build quality only gets you so far (and as I mentioned, premium feel but I'm on my FOURTH HTC One) so the extra added feature of the One does not give me an added benefit for the most part over the Nexus 5. For my usage which consists of 4 email account on 15 minute sync, streaming music for an hour over bluetooth, 30 - 60 minutes of calls, watching some youtube clips, reading the news or books, checking fantasy sports teams and browsing the web, I can get 20 -24 hours of usage with an average of 4 hours of screen time on the Nexus 5. HTC One was about the same but for some reason, it was less consistent and on average get less screen on time.
In conclusion, assuming I had absolutely no issues with HTC One during my 4 month of ownership, I probably would not have changed to the Nexus 5 since it's not a significant upgrade. Now, if I was shopping for phones currently and had the choice of purchasing either device, I would pick the Nexus 5 in a heartbeat. For me it comes down to the fact that the Nexus 5's value for the price is just ridiculous along with the fact that it's SIM unlocked for THREE of the major carriers in the US. And of course, the hackability and the developer support for the Nexus products are unmatched :laugh:
EDIT: I should also add that both phones were rooted but pretty much stock for everything else.

I switched from the One after being fed up with the infamous "purple tint" camera issue, I've been loving the Nexus 5. Only thing from the One that I REALLY miss are the speakers, which is understandable considering how lackluster the speakers on the Nexus 5 are. Camera isn't the best on the Nexus 5, definitely slower shutter speed than the HTC One, but I haven't had any major issues with the camera so far.
I've sent in my One for repairs and am expected to get it back tomorrow, at the end of the day, especially software-wise, it's all down to user preference. I have loved the stock android 4.4 kitkat experience (minus the navbar which I quickly replace with PIE controls anyways), but I also enjoyed HTC Sense 5. I'm definitely gonna be playing around with both phones and deciding which one I want to keep.
If you want to see if you should go for the Nexus 5, flash a google play edition ROM onto your HTC One if you're rooted, mess around with it and see if you enjoy stock android over Sense, if you do, then Nexus 5 is definitely for you.

My wife switched from the One to the N5 and she likes the simpler design and look of the N5. I am impressed by the performance of the N5--it flies! I also like that the N5 has a larger screen in a device the same size as the One. Considering the One is nearly twice the price of the N5, it's hard to compare the two on equal ground. I like the N5 better.

Choosing between two. Since they are mostly the same, I'd rather prefer pixel based on size, 5.5 is too much. Battery and pixel density is nicer on XL, but overall is about the same.
The only concern is Google daydream, is it going to suck on smaller screen with less pixels? How bad would be the difference? VR is going to be out month from now, I don't want to wait that long till somebody test it. So any forecasts?

I guess VR would be better on the XL on account of its 2K display. The reviews on the XL are great as well along with awesome battery life. I ordered the smaller one as I prefer the small size but the battery life as per reviews is not as good as the XL

Ordered the small myself, I feel like my Droid Turbo is too big.
But man, oh man, am I going to miss that battery life

this won't be a problem for you. i also chose the regular, not the XL. my eyes aren't great and i work from my phone, so i was looking at the XL as the only option. then my LG G3 (5.5") broke and i had to go back to my Galaxy S3 (4.7") while waiting for the new phone. and i couldn't believe how happy i've been back on the smaller S3! no pixelation problems, or small panel issues, or working from my phone, or any issues at all. so much more compact and easy to handle than the G3! and the Pixel is bigger anyway, so i'm 100% sure i made the right decision by skipping the phablets this time.

I've gone from the Note 7 down to the iPhone 7 while I wait for the REGULAR Pixel to come in this week.

I too struggled with this decision and ultimately have both sizes preordered. I briefly owned iPhone 6 Plus and hated the large size. The xl is just a wee bit smaller, but I fear may still be too big.

I also preordered both sizes .. I have to see them in my eyes to make decisions

I ended up ordering the normal Pixel. I'm not so worried about the size as much as I am about the battery life. I found the 5X to be the perfect size for me, but the battery life on the 6P was so much better I ended up using that as my main phone.
Hoping things are a bit better this time around with the smaller phone and that all the optimisations are enough to get a full days battery life out of the regular sized phone.

I can't comment on DayDream VR specifically but I have used my Nexus 6P with a google cardboard viewer a bit. It wasn't a great experience even with the 6P's resolution so I reckon it is going to be not great on the Pixel XL, and slightly worse on the normal Pixel due to the XL having a bit higher PPI. Either way it isn't going to be fantastic resolution wise.

Got frustrated with the Nexus 6p after a year and 10 months, so I decided to buy a one plus 5. Battery life is exceptional and overall performance makes using the phone a joy. R.I.P. Nexus 6P. Really liking the device so far.

Liking my OP5 so much. I can squeeze the battery to the maximum and get many screen time hours. The camera takes really good pics (not like an S8 tough, but pretty decent) and everyone can forget about the lag. As I said, really happy!

Too soon to say, but it could end up being the best phone I've owned so far. 2 major things holding me back from that decision are the inconsistent battery life and camera performance.

I can def say i've grown to like the device. The camera bugged me out at first but its getting better. Coming from a S8+, I missed the speed of stock android. touchwiz is beyond laggy. The only thing i can say that bugs me is the phone not being waterproof. And i wouldve preferred not having a physically home button.

Ok so I've received my phone week ago after using it i have to admit that the phone is literally a beast! If you are looking for a phone for "The fastest" this is one you want in your hand.
I am lucky that my op5 is not affected by the "jelly effect". The things i loved
*Speaker ( almost like stereo.., actually i am a music person i listen to music most of the time i don't really like ear/head phones)
*Speed (as i said the beast in performance. I have used galaxy s8 but don't really like the TouchWiz! Tbh TouchWiz itself feels laggy!)
*Display ( i don't really care for qhd or anything so for me fhd is good for me i don't use vr.. if you are a frequent user of vr you may not like the display)
*Camera ( ok i have to admit not the best camera phone in the market but at the sametime not the worst. I don't really like the low light pictures until now thanks to gcamera hdr+ so now i am very happy in the camera department.)
*Battery ( i am getting 6.5hr+ sot. I am a music lover told you, my 4g volte + data always turned on , i use Bluetooth to connect and listen music, 3 hrs average Calling! Standby time is very good so i am very much satisfied)
Things i hate
I dont like the microphone for the Calls it captures more background sound not like the op3! Op3 was good!
Vibration motor! Still not that much improvement! Love the iPhone vibration though!
Not water proof!

Love the phone. Solid 4.5/5.
Prior to this, I utilized a Samsung Note 3 and the performance is night and day.
This is literally the fastest phone I've used, it runs smoother than my friends S8. The battery life is amazing as well. I'd give the phone a 5/5 if it were waterproof and if it had OIS. The waterproofing isn't necessary but I live in an area where it rains quite frequently, so it would have been nice. The camera is great in regular light and the video recording is good (other than the fact that is clips the edges of the videos in order to electronically stabilize it).
I'd love for it to be priced comparably to the OP3 but it is still a good phone nonetheless and hundreds of dollars cheaper than the competition.

I'm in love with this phone, i come from an S7 edge, the interface is so much cleaner, no duplicate app, no lag, this phone is slightly larger and harder tu use in a hand but i prefer the OP5 material, the glass is too slippery and become oily. The camera of the s7 edge was a little bit better in low light, but in daylight the photo looks the same and the zoom is pretty fun to use.
I have the soft gold version and it's really gorgeous

voted 4, simply because OIS is missing, coming from the HTC 10 it's a major change and not in a positive way, the camera isn't awful by any means but OIS should have been mandatory, it's crazy that it wasn't especially seeing as they had made such noise about it.
Other than that, the phone is a monster, primarily due to the snapdragon 835, it can play pretty much any game / emulator, even ones previously unplayable, ie: PPSSPP and Gamecube games on dolphin.
Would also have been nice to see waterproofing (even though it's already been tested to have some form of protection)
overall i'm happy, it's just OIS not being there. Shame.

The one plus is the better camera, by some way. Don't get me wrong the 6P was a great phone, first and only Huawei I've ever had, my sister is still using it.
As ois is absent from both devices you're simply comparing the actual lenses and in this regard the one plus 5 smokes most phones. It's really just ois that makes the difference , stability on EIS which the one plus does have just doesn't match up to ois.
But unless you're recording a video or trying to get a perfect image whilst zooming you can live without it.
Even the iPhone 7 is without ois.

No worries mate. The one plus is a beast man, it surprised me and I'm quite a critic.

It was the best "shut up and take my money" I have ever faced. The feeling off the touch is good, materials are premium, extremely fast OS and touch reaction etc..
Ofc, I felt in love with the dash charge! Ok, is not as fast as oneplus claims to be .. but is really fast!
Ah! I was about to forget .. do not let your GF take a selfie using the front camera! She will have your phone occupied for the rest of its life!

I am so anxious... I just bought the OPS 5 128gb... My friend is bringing to me on Sep 22nd....

Had an Xiaomi Mi 5, absolutely fantastic in every way. But the screen was too small for me. Then changed to the Mi s plus, that's a perfect one! But I sold it and bought the op5, the only issue is the portrait mode, the Mi 5s plus was better. Despite that, it's really the best smartphone for now.

Please share your thoughts if coming from a note 8.

Miss the ability to use themes and select a different font. And nothing can beat the Samsung OLED panels! I don't miss the S-Pen that much though!
In short, the Note 8 is crammed with features and sometimes can come in the way of your working. I find the Pixels smoother to work with and just allow me to get what I need done. I probably wasn't the right demographic for the Note 8 anyway!

I have to agree here. I have a Note 8 review unit currently, and I haven't been able to put my Pixel 2 down since getting it. The camera is much better, and aside from a few nuances, I'm overall very happy with my choice.

I'm almost ready to upgrade and currently using an S7 edge. I torn between the Note 8 and either of the Pixel's did dropping in screen size take time to adjust?

I was honestly torn between the S8, Note 8, and Pixel 2. I think they're all great devices with pros and cons, and a great deal just depends upon personal taste. I'd highly recommend walking into a Best Buy or other store with these models on display, and take some time to play around with them.
One thing I will admit regarding the Note 8 is how surprised I was with its size. The Note 8 certainly has a large display, but I didn't find the device to be as unwieldy as I had expected. I also found the fingerprint reader to be far easier to use than I had assumed (I'm right-handed, and hold the devices with my left hand).
My only concern is how the Note 8 would feel in a pocket all day. I already have a great tablet that I use all the time (Kindle Fire HDX), so my phone is simply my "Go everywhere with me at all times device". I'd certainly be interested to hear from others how it feels with constant carry in pants or coat pockets, but IMHO I imagine the Pixel 2 being far easier to have on oneself 24/7 as opposed to a Note 8.

For me personally the note 8,has been the fastest phone I have ever used. I know others don't have much care about the headphone jack, but for me it's just convinient to have. I listen to a lot of music, play games and watch movies on my phone so not having the headphone jack is a deal breaker for me.

Stunned with the display but that's about it... Camera - front crap so much worse than 6p, rear - could capture nice pic but 6p was much more reliable in this matter.
Overall smoothness wasn't somehow great, still full of Samsung crap,. Fingerprint scanner is a joke, location, accuracy and speed.
After one day of owning it I have sent it back

Hmm if the pixel is much smoother then it's definitely out of this world. I have found my note 8,to be very smooth as for the first time ever I have not bothered installing a custom kernel or any kernel tweaking app. I am using it stock , just rooted but it's been great. Maybe one more point is the fact that mine is the Exynos version so it might help explain why it's been performing great. I am however always on the lookout for a fast phone so might just try the pixels.

Moto X Pure VS Pixel 2 XL

So I finally switched, after more than 2 years with the Moto X Pure. I had the Pixel 2 XL for about a week, here is my comparison.
Speed: No doubt the Pixel is far quicker, snappier, but anyone would have expected that.
Screen: I prefer the display of the Moto. Now you would think the size difference 6 vs 5.7 is huge, but when you play videos it seems like the width of the Moto gives you a bit more of the viewing experience. Theres is not a lot of difference with the quality of the display, the Pixel seemed to have a bit deeper blacks.
Camera: Pixels camera is just great, it almost consistently takes great pix. Love the night shots and the portrait mode. No comparison...
Speakers: I expected the Pixel speakers to be better, but after putting them side by side I found out that the Moto X Pure has speakers that are just a bit louder, just a tiny bit. Theres no audio quality difference
Build: Both phones are built well. Both feel heavy. The Moto X is thicker and the Pixel is lenghtier.
Forgot to mention the battery. The Pixel battery is amazing. I never had a phone last this long.
I think its a perfect upgrade.
Few things that would make the Pixel even better:
1. Additional wide angle lens like on the V30.
2. Minimize the height a bit
3. IP68
4. Chop chop for light

Don't forget about us here in the forums!
As long as you're happy with it, that's what matters. Personally, going from a reasonably attractive phone (like the Pure Edition) to a comparatively ugly phone with an Oled display (like the Pixel 2 XL) would be a bit of a letdown for me. However, if the advancements made in terms of camera and hardware performance are worth it to you, don't let that stand in the way of personal progress.

Since you mentioned the speakers. They were actually a big surprise for me, when I got the X-Style.. The main reason I bought the X-style, was that it was oddly cheap here, when considering some very decent stats.. The fact that it had stereo speakers was just a bonus.. But they are really good.
I was basically shocked the first time I put on the teaser trailer for Agony, and got a good blast of, surprisingly non-tinny, music in my face =)
Overall, with the P2-XL being about 4 times the price of the X-style, I would expect the P2-XL to be better.. But so far I have been very happy with my X-style.. The only thing I can think of, that would improve the X-style, would be an Amoled display.. Like the X-Force has.. But the X-force is an ugly block, with no developer community, So here I am on the X-style board

Be careful what you wish for. The Moto X Pure Edition has one of the best displays in the business. A dingy old oled panel would've been a dealbreaker for me. If you want a Pure Edition-like phone with Oled, the Droid Turbo (or possibly the Nexus 6) is it. All of this phone's successors (the Moto Z series) have Oled panels, as do most of its predecessors.

I found that like you that the sound wasnt as good but what i really noticed was the call and cell quality and strength were subpar to the MXPE. My XL is on its way back to google. I just couldnt justify the cost. Meanwhile my MXPE is still fine..

I just got my Pixel 2 XL a few days ago and I'm absolutely loving the Pixel. My Moto X Pure will still likely go down as my favorite device of all time due to it's specs, price, and performance. When it comes to the Pixel 2 XL, don't believe the hype on the screen issues. The screen is fantastic on the XL, the blue shift that people are complaining about is there, but it's waay over exaggerated. All oled screens have some sort of color shift. My buddy has the Samsung S8+ which is supposed to be one of the top rated screens on any phone and it has worse blue shift than the Pixel 2 XL along with an overall red tone to the screen. The curved glass is sooo cool and really makes using the phone a pleasure. I didn't realize how much I would enjoy the curved glass until owning the device. The big thing I was concerned about with going with the Pixel was the lack of an external SD slot, but I'm not really all that concerned about it now. I bought a really nice usb C adapter that holds a micro sd card in it and also has a usb A connection to hook up to a PC. When I do my Titanium/TWRP backups, I just click that in and do my backups. Nice and easy. The speakers on the XL sound pretty good, I notice little to no difference. They are phone speakers after all, but they are stereo, front firing and do their job. The signal strength on the Pixel is unmatched. I'm amazed at how strong the wifi and cell signals are compared to my MXP. The build of the phone is great, and feels like the dollar amount invested. The immediate updates are one of the biggest things I like along with firmware being posted almost immediately from Google. No more hunting down/capturing OTA's or full firmware zips. As much as I enjoyed Moto Display, the Pixels ambient display on 8.1 is top notch, has double tap to wake, and we get a notification light back (which I really missed while using the MXP).
Overall, I'm very happy with the Pixel 2 XL. Lenavo really ruined the MXP and it's unlikely I'll ever go back to them unless they go back to the way Motorola originally set up their phone's update schedules. Right now as I type this I'm wiping my MXP and setting it up as a dedicated music media player for my car to replace my current old LG-G3. My battery is still strong on the MXP and I expect to get several more years of service out of it.
