Ok so I am about to trade my One S for a Gnex. And i want to know what are the pros and cons of this. And I want know if it is a good deal. I want to know what you guys think.

only if yo want a larger screen or NFC. Other than that One S trumps Gnex in every other way. Far better performance (S4).

Not only bigger screen but much better as well. I have both phones and my One S just sits in my drawer. Performance isn't "far" better. Development for the Gnex is far better and JellyBean 4.2.1 is just now taking off and it is sweet! I love everything about my GNex have no complaints, can't say the same for the One S I have many complaints.
Just came to One S from a Gnex.
I liked the better build quality and speed of One S. The JB interface is smoother, but in terms of raw power, speed for opening apps, the One S is better. Also liked the camera on One S more.
Browsing websites were much more comfortable on the Gnex due to the higher resolution.
If you like to constantly flash different roms and use the newest features, the Gnex is better at that.
Personally, I wouldn't go for the Gnex now. At least go for the N4.
Camera and S4 performance (battery life as well) is much better on the One S. if you are trading in an S3 version version of the one S then its a good deal.
As I posted in another thread here the other day:
The galaxy nexus display is nice, definitely sharper/clearer than the S, however, IMO it is too dull for SAMOLED panel, the one S is the best when it comes to calibration for colour settings, whites are the best I have seen on a SAMOLED screen, view ability in sunshine is far better from my usage with both. The display isn't "much" bigger due to the on screen buttons, iirc the height is pretty much the same but the galaxy nexus is a bit wider.
Advantages of the GN over the 1S:
- far better NLED
- nexus device so will get updates fast and quick
- much better and bigger developing community
- NFC
Advantages of the 1S over the GN:
- far better audio quality
- camera is far better overall
- better build and perceived quality
- much better battery life
- much better performance overall due to having one of the best CPU chipsets there is (also don't forget that we haven't got JB yet, so when we get that, the speed and smoothness will increase again)
Software skins and design/looks is personal preference.
One S is better overall
Count me as a soon to be former Galaxy Nexus owner in favor of the One S.
I was concerned about the lower resolution but I held both phones side by side and for me there isn't much to choose one over the other, screen wise, even for reading text. Yes the GNex is larger and 720p but (as has been said) the One S has great calibration and the panel is of a newer design, quite excellent for a QHD display. The GNex also suffers from screen burn-in on the notification and button bars (visible when playing full-screen videos).
The biggest deciding factor for me is the size and feel for the device - the GNex and other 4.7" phones are simply too big for comfortable one-hand operation, and won't fit into my slim jeans front pocket. The 4.3" One S is the perfect compromise - bigger than the paltry 4.0" on the iPhone and low-end Android phones, yet not the gargantuan size of "flagship" 4.7" phones.
Other factors in my decision are the poor external speaker volume, fair call quality and WiFi sensitivity, and below-average camera. The One S is better for all four. Plus, it has a built-in FM radio which is handy if you don't have a huge data plan like me and so can't always stream radio.
Then there is the overall feel of quality. The GNex was never praised for its build quality, whereas the One S definitely feels like a premium device.
Yes the GNex has 4.2, but that isn't a big jump from 4.1, which introduced Google Now and Project Butter, two improvements that really count. The One S is already smooth (thanks to its superior processing power over the GNex) but will be even better once it gets 4.1.1 (January?). For me, this will mean the One S will be "current" until Android 5 is released next Summer (not that I would necessarily ditch the One S then either).
Unless you are a developer, or love flashing ROMs, or simply MUST have the latest version of Android before everyone else, the One S is the better phone overall.

It's hard to choose between the two because each one has its pros and cons. I have both at hand and I got to say, the only real bad thing that I can say about One S is the slightly lower res display and maybe a tad smaller screen size. other than that I prefer one S more than Nexus. I swapping my sim back and forth between the 2 and always found myself going back to One S due to it's design and overall usefulness. I wish HTC put a higher res display and maybe slightly larger screen but other than that, it would be the better choice for me.

They did. It's called the One X.
Unfortunately, most of us on GSM networks don't get them.
Keep the One S. I had the choice today of getting a GNex or the One S. Better Camera, Faster, MUCH Better design, feels nice in the hand, better camera, better UI (genuine to opinion but I think more people would agree than disagree) better audio.
One S tops it. Only get the GNEX if you're after stock android.
I have to agree. I went from a gnex to a one s, and I'm glad I made the switch.
The build quality, camera, speed are all better on the one s. The colors on the screen are better calibrated, and I also get faster downloads with the one s.

HOS: better battery life, nice build quality, sense, nice camera.
Gnex: bigger screen, faster ota, 4.2.1,

I just sold my GNex and picked up the One S. The GNex is still a great device but it's too big for my hands. I didn't like the big hump at the bottom. Whenever I typed, it felt uncomfortable and eventually started to hurt my hands. I have small hands, even for a female! lol. Also the external speakers on the GNex is extremely low! I used the navigation one time and could barely hear the lady. I have a new car so it's not like my car is loud. I wish Power Amp would make an app specifically for navigation. Anyways, I love the design of the One S. It looks a lot more sleeker than the GNex. Feels more solid, external speaker is louder, earpiece is louder,....As much as I enjoyed the pure Android experience, I missed Sense UI. I had a number of HTC Androids in the past. So it's nice to have one again.

When I compare my S to the X, I notice that things are a lot snappier/more instant i.e. loading the gallery thumbnails, loading games/levels, apps, rendering maps etc. Of course, better software/driver optimisation would be a big factor here as well.
I haven't used a X with JB yet, so that difference might not be as noticeable any more. People who have got the update so far have said the improvement in performance is massive.
- Amazing power efficiency thus better battery life
The X has supposedly improved by quite a bit with the JB update, but it still wouldn't be as good as the XL or S.
- Doesn't get anywhere as hot or heat up as quickly as tegra 3, as we all know on this forum, over heating components can cause many problems.

So the X isn't the one you want, the XL is Or the X+ (bigger battery, 64GB, better front camera, jellybean on it already)

Personally I would say the Note 3, I am getting mine this weekend. If you really use your phone for videos and gaming and just overall alot of screen time and like big phones/screens, then get the Note 3. If you don't use your phone for other then maybe a few games or apps here and there and don't like big phones/screens get the Nexus 5. The Nexus 5 is a good phone, but all in all it isn't really a multimedia phone in my opinion. Though so might say otherwise.

it should come down to cost and potentially hand size.
The note 3 is slightly better, but significantly more expensive.

As a woman, I object to that.
Anything over 4" is too big to hold as a woman, so what does it matter if it is 5 or 5.7"? (Put that thing back in your pants lads, your phallus does not have a screen, let alone the ability to multitask.)
I wouldn't go back to a smaller phone if they paid me for it. No way.

I've been contemplating this too. Price is a factor. I also like the clean look vs the mess of status bar icons. Although it looks like I can address that through themes etc. The biggest things for me is the bigger screen and battery. I may go back to a Nexus device sometime, but for now I decided on the Note 3

They do have the same processor.
No comparison, the Note has sd card and changeable battery. Those are absolutely essential for me so the nexus doesn't even bear consideration.

Agreed. Those were my factors plus the multi window capability.
I have a Note 3 even though I was going to get a Nexus to receive the updates sooner. When they released the Nexus 5 I feared I would regret buying the Note, but no. I love this device and I don't think Nexus 5 offers a lot more compared to this, and it doesn't have spen. But keep in mind I wanted a big phone to replace a tablet too, so if you want something smaller and don't nees the spen, Nexus is an excellent choice for the price.

Sure it's cheaper and that's why it lacks the 40% of the things that N3 has.
I repeat you cannot compare 2 devices that are in 2 different categories with the biggest different imo the pen. Only phones with pen can be compared. Academically speaking nexus is great device for its price really but honestly if you go for N3 and used to the pen abilities there is no going back. I haven't touched with fingers except some zoom in/out since day 1.

Go Nexus if you don't care about its poor battery life. At least you will be free of this Knox and locked bootloaders crap. It's also way cheaper and you will have way more roms and customizations available.

Congratulations on your first post I was in the same situation, whether to wait for Nexus 5 (still own Nexus 4) or buy this beast. And as you said it, I never regreted it, absolutely beatifull peace of hardware. And surprisingly, love the amoled and its deep blacks. I am back on Samsung after years of HTC/Google phones. Still need to get used to S-Pen, barely ever using it, but the phone is excellent even without it.
Got a Nexus 5, loved it but had issues with my 3UK home signal box so got a Note 3. Personally I prefer the Nexus 5 as its much easier to handle. Nexus I can use with one hand but when I do the same with the Note 3 I feel like i'm going to drop it. Both are amazing phones but to me 5" is the sweet spot for the mobile phone screen size.

So.. you compare specs.. whats the point ?
What a terrible biased "review" of both devices.
* You buy a Samsung Note series device for the S-Pen first, and whatever they throw in including the kitchen sink is icing on the cake
* You buy the Note 3 for the expandable memory and the removable battery! In which case you can add on a 2nd oem battery or use a plethora of external higher capacity batteries that are available
* what about the triple mic's on the note 3? The adaptive sound dsp?
* How easy to not mention about multi-window use on the note 3, the killer slow motion with 1/4, 1/3, 1/2 speed adjustments, the browse while you stream video window ability with the stock video player, the adjustable AMOLED color profiles, bluetooth 4.0LE, advanced modes, the wifi-direct modes
* what about the screen writing which works amazingly well? The s-Pen command mode with scrapbook, screen write, and the pressure sensitive screen???!!
* Don't forget the sensors on the note 3: Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, temperature, humidity, gesture
* how good the camera really is and no camera focus lag like on a nexus 5
* even if you guys don't like touchwiz, a simple launcher can fix that. But the bulk of the phone is made even better by samsung, really.
* and best of all it works on Verizon's network. Supports simultaneous LTE data and CDMA voice.
The pros on the nexus 5:
* price <---
* OIS in camera but what's the point when the extremely laggy focusing is in play
* IPS screen with ultra pixel density; at least no worries like SAMOLED screen burn
Those are about the 3 pro's going for the nexus in my book. I don't want stock android for it does NOTHING! Samsung threw in all the whiz bang features and if you don't like the features turn them off. At least you have that feature to turn off vs. a stock android which has nothing! I find it interesting the so called hard core android user choose nexus because they choose to have stock everything on the phone no extras. But what is the point of owning a smartphone in which you don't have any fancy features? Why not just get a regular dumb phone and call it a day.
And the article states you rarely change batteries - what a joke - because when my battery gets near 30% which is about 1day to 1.5days/2days time, I just swap it out in less than 40 seconds with a fresh one waiting in the charger. I use a 64GB Samsung mSD card now to hold all the 4K videos and 60fps 1080p videos and also the mic on the note 3 is extremely good! You can even zoom in the mic!
You shouldn't even compare the note 3 to the nexus 5 because the note 3 really is a fantastic phablet. The nexus 5 is a good phone for the price but again, if you want stock android that does nothing, go for it!

The nexus is a BEAUTY! I love the design, the handling, the screen...I love the speed, the back of the device, the simplicity.
BUT:
I just can't go with a SP on which i can't rely on in terms of battery life. Not a great step forward from the nexus 4 - i am more a heavy user. And folks : if i have to turn off Google now just to be able to get through the day, there is seriously sth wrong. I want to be "power independent" and that is simply impossible with the nexus. And still the camera is kind of bad.

I'm curious what you folks who came from the Nexus 6p think about this smaller phone. Are you regretting going with the smaller option? Loving it? I've ordered a Pixel for me and the missus (thanks to the TMo promo) and am fully expecting to have a love/hate relationship with the smaller phone. I mean, I totally miss having a reasonable size phone (my N6p is HUGE!!) but boy is it nice to have a large screen when I don't care about my phone being small.
I'm still a week or two away from getting our Pixels but trying to decide whether I should change my order to an XL or not.
I'm loving my Pixel. So much easier to handle. Battery life has been great. Camera is amazing. The only thing I miss are the front facing speakers. However, the Pixel speaker is plenty loud and sounds really good despite it being one speaker on the bottom of the device.

Thanks for the feedback! Oddly enough, I don't think I'll care much at all about the speaker. The N6p has great speakers but I never use them - almost always have better audio options available (7 Chromecast audios at home, B&O Bluetooth speakerphones that also sound great for music, car integrated Bluetooth, & a Bluetooth stereo headset). I think the last phone I has that wasn't too large was the OG Moto X. That was a long time and many phones ago!
The smaller phone is hugely liberating. Finally feels normal and just right. Heck, I wish it were smaller. I guess I never did adjust to the phablet madness. Now it fits in my pocket, cup holders, anywhere I can think of. I tend to worry less about it. It's less of a thin flat large slab that may bend. One handed use is so underrated. 4.5" would have been perfect though.
Okay, so the things I don't like are the price, it is definitely not hundreds of pounds better than the 6P, which was IMO 2015's best smartphone and the 6P held its own right up to now.
Then there's no 64gb option.
Then the design itself is also rather ugly at the back. Face looks awesome.
It hasn't added much to the 6P. It took a few things away from the 6P. The small size and the marginal speed performance differences made my mind up really.
It's not better than last year's. It's just a different phone. Because it HAS no last year model to compete with.
I have compared the camera on both and the camera is over hyped. It produces the same stills as the 6P does. However, focussing is better in video and stabilisation is finally here. Not forgetting to mention that it can do macros closer up. That's it really.

I have to admit the quality is not leaps and bounds better than the 6P. However, another important factor with the Pixel camera is speed. I had to settle for subpar pics with my 6P many times because the first snap wasn't great then I had to wait for HDR+ to process before I could snap another one. The Pixel allows me to snap pictures much quicker giving me more opportunities to get the shot I want.
Thanks all! You're helping me feel better with my choice of the smaller version. I'm not worried about the aesthetics since it'll be in a case most it's life. I'm really excited for this phone even if it's not a huge upgrade from the N6P. Definitely looking for that faster camera most of all!

My suggestion if you have a Best Buy or Verizon store near, is go and play with both for a couple hours. It's kind of daunting to come from a 6-inch screen to a 5-inch screen. You might find it that mrs. Prefers the 5.5 inch where you find yourself happy with the 5-inch or vice versa.

Then the design itself is also rather ugly at the back. Face looks awesome.
It hasn't added much to the 6P. It took a few things away from the 6P. The small size and the marginal speed performance differences made my mind up really.
It's not better than last year's. It's just a different phone. Because it HAS no last year model to compete with.
I have compared the camera on both and the camera is over hyped. It produces the same stills as the 6P does. However, focussing is better in video and stabilisation is finally here. Not forgetting to mention that it can do macros closer up. That's it really.

On the camera side of things - from the reviews I have looked at online the low light performance is superior on the Pixel when compared to the 6p, or any other phone camera for that matter.
I have the same situation too. I find 6P is too bulky..I kind of miss the Nexus 5 feeling. My biggest concern is the battery life because how significantly smaller the battery is compared to 6P.

I've found the move fine, pixel easier to handle, battery life not an issue. Camera is much faster and definitely better in low light, screen colours are better too making things look crisper. Excellent piece of kit.

I found the Pixel to hold its charge better than the Nexus. Still early days so may degrade over time.

So I'm a bit of a junkie. I switch phones every 6-12 months, going back as far as the HTC Desire HD.
I've been bouncing between Nexus and HTC Flagships for the last couple years, having had every HTC One and both the Nexus 6 and 6p.
While I AM still a huge fan of the large form factor of the 6p (I still haven't sold it yet, so I have been doing a lot of direct comparisons), I decided on the Pixel instead of the XL and I don't regret it. It's so comfortable, so fast, the battery is AMAZING, the camera is AMAZING, it's just so good. What I was most surprised with is actually the speaker quality! It is very clear and full sounding, especially for a single bottom firing speaker.
I don't know what else to say, I thought this would be more structured but it turned into a bit of a rant.

It's good I sub low-light but when it's really low light ois or manual is needed. Great camera otherwise,so much faster then stock 6P (there is now a hacked one in the 6P forum). I Have a pixel, this iPhone and a Huawei P9 and can't decide witch one to stay with but the pixel is really really good.

This ia precisely how I feel. The small form factor, the power and speed. The camera and battery life sold me. The price was high. I think no phone should ever cost this price. It's a phone and a social media toy. A camera even. That's it.
But as the market rate goes, this is the best phone for the money. RIP phablets. If more top end hardware was available for smaller handsets, I would wager phablets would be dead in quick succession.
One plus 3 really is the wild card of smartphones... It throws a spanner in my perfect Pixel world.

The one thing making my decision difficult is reduced resolution. I'm ready for smaller form factor but I've had qhd for such a long time that I'm not sure I'm ready for the compromises when going down to HD.
Can anyone please elaborate on their experience (gaming and multimedia) coming from higher resolution display?
I'm mostly concerned with Vainglory.

I never game on any of my mobile devices (I have a gaming PC 980ti, i74790k, 1440p display with Gsync). However, I do have the 6P and the Pixel side by side. I can't say I can tell the difference at all. I think you really have to go looking for the difference and squint to pick any minute details.
I've now had my Pixel 5" for 24 hours and I'm loving the size!

I'm the OP of this thread so I obviously came from a N6P, which is 1440p @ ~5.8". With that background, I can say that I love this screen even more than I loved the N6P screen. The drop in resolution isn't noticeable to me at all (my main monitor on my computer is 4k, so I get it and demand resolution).
The only situation I can imagine where the Pixel 5" resolution would be a problem would be with Cardboard/Daydream where the pixels are magnified. That's VERY secondary for me and I'd never change my phone decision because of that. Simply put, 1080p on this phone is pretty amazing! Don't forget that this is much sense of a DPI than any Apple phone.
Went from the 6p rooted and heavy use of xposed to a 2 week test of a stock 5x to see how the smaller phone felt...Definitely liked the smaller device, but that phone is under powered .. Got the 5 inch pixel last week and it is fantastic.

Liking my OP5 so much. I can squeeze the battery to the maximum and get many screen time hours. The camera takes really good pics (not like an S8 tough, but pretty decent) and everyone can forget about the lag. As I said, really happy!
Too soon to say, but it could end up being the best phone I've owned so far. 2 major things holding me back from that decision are the inconsistent battery life and camera performance.
I can def say i've grown to like the device. The camera bugged me out at first but its getting better. Coming from a S8+, I missed the speed of stock android. touchwiz is beyond laggy. The only thing i can say that bugs me is the phone not being waterproof. And i wouldve preferred not having a physically home button.
Ok so I've received my phone week ago after using it i have to admit that the phone is literally a beast! If you are looking for a phone for "The fastest" this is one you want in your hand.
I am lucky that my op5 is not affected by the "jelly effect". The things i loved
*Speaker ( almost like stereo.., actually i am a music person i listen to music most of the time i don't really like ear/head phones)
*Speed (as i said the beast in performance. I have used galaxy s8 but don't really like the TouchWiz! Tbh TouchWiz itself feels laggy!)
*Display ( i don't really care for qhd or anything so for me fhd is good for me i don't use vr.. if you are a frequent user of vr you may not like the display)
*Camera ( ok i have to admit not the best camera phone in the market but at the sametime not the worst. I don't really like the low light pictures until now thanks to gcamera hdr+ so now i am very happy in the camera department.)
*Battery ( i am getting 6.5hr+ sot. I am a music lover told you, my 4g volte + data always turned on , i use Bluetooth to connect and listen music, 3 hrs average Calling! Standby time is very good so i am very much satisfied)
Things i hate
I dont like the microphone for the Calls it captures more background sound not like the op3! Op3 was good!
Vibration motor! Still not that much improvement! Love the iPhone vibration though!
Not water proof!
Love the phone. Solid 4.5/5.
Prior to this, I utilized a Samsung Note 3 and the performance is night and day.
This is literally the fastest phone I've used, it runs smoother than my friends S8. The battery life is amazing as well. I'd give the phone a 5/5 if it were waterproof and if it had OIS. The waterproofing isn't necessary but I live in an area where it rains quite frequently, so it would have been nice. The camera is great in regular light and the video recording is good (other than the fact that is clips the edges of the videos in order to electronically stabilize it).
I'd love for it to be priced comparably to the OP3 but it is still a good phone nonetheless and hundreds of dollars cheaper than the competition.
I'm in love with this phone, i come from an S7 edge, the interface is so much cleaner, no duplicate app, no lag, this phone is slightly larger and harder tu use in a hand but i prefer the OP5 material, the glass is too slippery and become oily. The camera of the s7 edge was a little bit better in low light, but in daylight the photo looks the same and the zoom is pretty fun to use.
I have the soft gold version and it's really gorgeous
voted 4, simply because OIS is missing, coming from the HTC 10 it's a major change and not in a positive way, the camera isn't awful by any means but OIS should have been mandatory, it's crazy that it wasn't especially seeing as they had made such noise about it.
Other than that, the phone is a monster, primarily due to the snapdragon 835, it can play pretty much any game / emulator, even ones previously unplayable, ie: PPSSPP and Gamecube games on dolphin.
Would also have been nice to see waterproofing (even though it's already been tested to have some form of protection)
overall i'm happy, it's just OIS not being there. Shame.

The one plus is the better camera, by some way. Don't get me wrong the 6P was a great phone, first and only Huawei I've ever had, my sister is still using it.
As ois is absent from both devices you're simply comparing the actual lenses and in this regard the one plus 5 smokes most phones. It's really just ois that makes the difference , stability on EIS which the one plus does have just doesn't match up to ois.
But unless you're recording a video or trying to get a perfect image whilst zooming you can live without it.
Even the iPhone 7 is without ois.

No worries mate. The one plus is a beast man, it surprised me and I'm quite a critic.
It was the best "shut up and take my money" I have ever faced. The feeling off the touch is good, materials are premium, extremely fast OS and touch reaction etc..
Ofc, I felt in love with the dash charge! Ok, is not as fast as oneplus claims to be .. but is really fast!
Ah! I was about to forget .. do not let your GF take a selfie using the front camera! She will have your phone occupied for the rest of its life!

Had an Xiaomi Mi 5, absolutely fantastic in every way. But the screen was too small for me. Then changed to the Mi s plus, that's a perfect one! But I sold it and bought the op5, the only issue is the portrait mode, the Mi 5s plus was better. Despite that, it's really the best smartphone for now.
Can those who have come from a note 8,please share your thoughts and views, on what you miss, performance wise etc, now that you are using the pixel 2 thanks.
Miss the ability to use themes and select a different font. And nothing can beat the Samsung OLED panels! I don't miss the S-Pen that much though!
In short, the Note 8 is crammed with features and sometimes can come in the way of your working. I find the Pixels smoother to work with and just allow me to get what I need done. I probably wasn't the right demographic for the Note 8 anyway!

I have to agree here. I have a Note 8 review unit currently, and I haven't been able to put my Pixel 2 down since getting it. The camera is much better, and aside from a few nuances, I'm overall very happy with my choice.
I'm almost ready to upgrade and currently using an S7 edge. I torn between the Note 8 and either of the Pixel's did dropping in screen size take time to adjust?

I was honestly torn between the S8, Note 8, and Pixel 2. I think they're all great devices with pros and cons, and a great deal just depends upon personal taste. I'd highly recommend walking into a Best Buy or other store with these models on display, and take some time to play around with them.
One thing I will admit regarding the Note 8 is how surprised I was with its size. The Note 8 certainly has a large display, but I didn't find the device to be as unwieldy as I had expected. I also found the fingerprint reader to be far easier to use than I had assumed (I'm right-handed, and hold the devices with my left hand).
My only concern is how the Note 8 would feel in a pocket all day. I already have a great tablet that I use all the time (Kindle Fire HDX), so my phone is simply my "Go everywhere with me at all times device". I'd certainly be interested to hear from others how it feels with constant carry in pants or coat pockets, but IMHO I imagine the Pixel 2 being far easier to have on oneself 24/7 as opposed to a Note 8.

For me personally the note 8,has been the fastest phone I have ever used. I know others don't have much care about the headphone jack, but for me it's just convinient to have. I listen to a lot of music, play games and watch movies on my phone so not having the headphone jack is a deal breaker for me.

Hmm if the pixel is much smoother then it's definitely out of this world. I have found my note 8,to be very smooth as for the first time ever I have not bothered installing a custom kernel or any kernel tweaking app. I am using it stock , just rooted but it's been great. Maybe one more point is the fact that mine is the Exynos version so it might help explain why it's been performing great. I am however always on the lookout for a fast phone so might just try the pixels.
