Honor 8 Boot Animation Question - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

I've been thinking about making a boot animation for the Honor 8, but I don't have the device. Can someone who has an Honor 8 please upload their "bootanimation.zip" for me? I also need to know the exact path that the file was located in. Thank you!

I found it in system/media

You're welcome!!!! Good luck!!!!

since twrp, xposed is availble for honor8, it would be easy to change the bootanimations

What theme of boot animation will you do?

boot animation
I have tried to just copy a new boot animation into the system folder (like I have in the past with old samsung phones) but it still boots with the old logo . I have tried flashing but it fails because twrp throws an error.

I NEED A TESTER...
I think I may have finished the boot animation, but I don't have an Honor 8, so I'm unable to test it. I need someone with an Honor 8(1080x1920 display) who can test this for me and let me know if it plays properly before I post it. Anyone who's interested in testing this should just send me a PM. Thank you!
EDIT(01/03/2017): Still waiting for a tester. Must have root, a custom recovery like TWRP installed & some experience with flashing zips and backing up your device in case you need to restore.

Is this actually true for the Honor devices? I'm having someone test my animation on their device and it flashes, but it doesn't change the animation. It seems that even with root and TWRP it's still preventing this rather simple change. I make animations all the time, so it should work just fine, but what could it be that's not allowing the change? :/
UPDATE: The person testing for me just tried deleting his bootanimation.zip completely and rebooting and it still shows the stock boot animation on boot, so there must be a master copy that it keeps copying from somewhere that's writing over my animation on boot. Any help? Ideas? :/

I don't think it's very easy to get a custom boot animation on the Honor 8 to function. You would probably have to unlock the bootloader, root it and perform some other complicated task in order to get it to work.

I think it's fairly easy to unlock the bootloader on the Honor 8...
https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-unlock-bootloader-on-honor-8/
And to root and install TWRP...
https://www.xda-developers.com/honor-8-root-twrp-and-xposed/
So that's not the issue. I think we may have found the answer to the problem though on this thread here if you want to check it out.

This is an old thread from long before I made any animations for the Honor 8. No need to resurrect it. Animations have been up for some time and have been downloaded over 800 times collectively to date. Any further discussion should go there.

Please read the entire discussion(particularly the last comments about the L09 on Nougat) before posting. Thank you!

you could install CM and then flash the stock boot screen animation over it,
Or you could create your own custom CM build with the stock boot animation

Then google or search the forum. Not sure if the Nexus S works like other phones but you normally would.....
You would first have to find the Nexus One bootanimation.zip (they're the same)
Place it in one of the system folders /system/media/
Reboot and see if it works.

^^ some don't need to be flashed... some do
it depends on the ROM, the method I posted above would probably not do any harm. If it works, it works.. if it doesn't then nothing will change.
Again, I'm not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. Just passing the message by.

[Kernel] Stock (insecure-disable write protection)

For s-off/unlocked users.
This will remove write protection and allow for /system read/write. After flashing you will no longer need to keep weaksauce installed as system changes will persist after reboot! I dumped this boot image from one of my M8's and tested it on another. This will allow you to install such things as boot animations and busy box etc...
flash from fastboot using
fastboot flash boot M8VZWbootInsecure.img

His original thread on the module can be located on here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701816
What's the need for this? /system changes already stick after multiple hard reboots
EDIT: this is assuming you have run firewater, have s-off/unlocked, and have SuperSU installed/updated as a system app.

As we found with the M7 and htc one max not all changes will stick... so using flar2's module gets us around that...

Thanks alot man! Alot easier than horsing around with the kernel module. This just makes it easy as pie. Thanks alot
Anyway to verify it worked? I did the easy instructions and cmd prompt did it's thing and said successful with how many seconds it took and all. Guess what i mean is there any certain root apps/tweaks that didn't work before this and now work with this?
Maybe a quick list of tweaks/apps that now work because of this kernal tweak?

Ringtones got lost. Where to find the original ones?

After updating, rooting and further steps with my Honor 8 I noticed that the ringtones (as well as alarms) got lost on the way. I even think they suddenly disappeared a few days after...
However I don't know where the system ringtones are located normally. I've got a Ringtone folder in my data but there is nothing inside. And where can I get the original ringtones? Got all firmware packages and UpdateExtractor on my computer.
Thanks!

Can you try this workaround?
1. Grab all your notification tones and ringtones from /system/media
2. Create a folder in internal storage named Notifications and Ringtones
3. Put your grabbed files in their respective folder.

Ehm I couldn't acccess them... If you mean my question where I can get the ringtones: At this point I thought they are not on my phone anymore and I have to insert them somewhere. But it seems like they are on my phone but just aren't regonized. The workaround fixed it but the orginal ringtone folder is just ignored by the system.

Thank you both but I won't reflash the firmware when there is another way. I had sooo many problems with flashing, rooting, BusyBox and more. Got back to stock and updated/installed everything like 4 times. I'm just happy that the phone finally works. Would I have knew that the Honor 8 hates modifications so much, I wouldn't have bought it. Never got problems with my OnePlus One...
Besides, my updater just doesn't work (I'm using Firmware Finder). I think it's because my Honor is a specsaes (Malaysian Version, even though it's a FRD-L09 (European) - don't get this ****) and I'm located in Germany.

Besides, my updater just doesn't work (I'm using Firmware Finder). I think it's because my Honor is a specsaes (Malaysian Version, even though it's a FRD-L09 (European) - don't get this ****) and I'm located in Germany.

As mentioned mainly rooting and the problems with encrypted data. Titanium Backup and LuckyPatcher still don't work as good as with my OnePlus One. And if I had knew that there is no XPosed (at the moment)...
Anyway still very good phone for low price :good: Just don't have the time to reset and arrange everything again and again

[HELP] Honor 6X brick

Hello everyone,
Today around 12:00, my phone did install the latest EMUI update available (365). However, I didn't noticed it and then I couldn't stop it ...
It messed up my system and I wasn't able to boot. eRecovery wasn't working either (unable to get packages).
I had twrp so I thought this was no big deal, but I couldn't manage to reinstall a stock rom, nor install a custom rom (I've tried them all, and none was working : blackscreens all the time), even thought I have experience in flashing roms and messing around with smartphones
I tried to rollback to an older version of my stock rom using huawei's rollback package (even if the manual says that I shouldn't do this since I unlocked my bootloader). The installation was flawless, and then it rebooted to reset my user data. The reset failed, and still couldn't boot.
I've tried to install custom roms again after that, but I was missing "/vendor" and "/product".
I am desperate and out of ideas.
I have access to bootloader, I have fastboot, twrp, and I have experience in flashing and all this stuff.
If you like challenges and you wanna proove that you're the very best like no one ever was, your help is much appreciated
Best regards,
Hazreath
PS : sorry for any english mistake

Yes I can boot into eRecovery !
Thanks for your interest sir

If eRecovery is the thing that you boot in when you press VOL +, VOL - and POWER, I have access to it.
However, if you're talking about the eRecovery we can boot in with a normal boot and 3sec VOL+ press, I'm afraid I can't ...

I was talking about the second one. The first one was ghe dload flash. You use it if you want to manually flash a firmware. Maybe you cantry that too. Download a full firmware for your model (more or less 2GB in size), extract the update.app inside and put it in dload folder inside storage, and press the volume up, volume down and power buttons.

I already tried that and it led me to nothing :/
I tried both the EMUI 5.0 firmware and the rollback to EMUI 4.1. They were the only ones availables.
5.0 install failed(uncompatible), and rollback install worked but then user data reset failed...
What was your idea with the second one ? I can access to it, I was wrong (I modified my post a minute ago )
Thanks again
Problem solved !
I made a dload with a update.zip that I found here -> http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1277/g104/v74972/f1/full/update.zip
I'm in EMUI 4.1 and everything works fine (I miss the drawer but it works).
Thanks for your investment sir, and have a nice day

Get the zip file and extract it in a "dload" folder (create it) to your sdcard.
Put the sdcard into your phone and boot by pressing vol+,vol- and power, then click on the first option and wait !
Sorry I saw your answer a bit late :/

Telegram took me to the past centuries lol.
Anything to help in real time to avoid much of the mess is Ok. I was free for a while so helped quickly and he was quick to understand the things and follow everything as per instructions and was able to restore the phone.
