So I'm about to order a replacement Nexus 5 due to a faulty headphone jack. However I'm running a custom ROM so obviously I have an unlock boot loader and custom recovery, which I'll switch back to stock before shipping out. My question: is there a way for Google to check that I unlock the bootloader and do they check? Has anyone order a replacement after flashing a different ROM? What was the process like.
Thanks

Yes they can. And you can reset the flag.

every device ive ever returned to google for exchange has been rooted, with an unlocked bootloader, with a custom recovery, with a custom rom, and a custom kernel. if its hardware related, the unlocked bootloader doesnt mean anything, they will still exchange it. if it is software related, then they will send it back to you. btw, if its software related, then its fixible by you.

No its definitely a hardware issue; headphones aren't working correctly on my Nexus 5 but work perfect on my Nexus 4.

wow, im shocked, so u just RMA it like that as is? say i have custom rom and i somehow HARDWARE bricked it, can't power on or off, i can still get RMA from them?
i always thought u had to LOCK the bootloader to RMA , unlock = void warranty?
Think of it like this:
If you can be bothered and/or would rather play it safe, return to stock, relock boot loader and reset the tamper flag.
If you can't be bothered/like the 'unknown'/can't physically access the device (hard brick) then don't.
Either way, it is your choice and not that of someone else on a forum to choose for you.

Is all you need to guarantee the success of a warranty to unroot the phone after rooting it (and flashing a ROM)? Some friends tell me that running an app called Triangle away is needed and also locking bootloader is also required. Is this true, and if so, would there be anything else I'd need to do if I rooted my phone and wanted to claim it back? Sorry but If you can't root and claim back your phone, it seems like an extremely risky move to make..
Thanks

Yes, basicaly you have to flash the latest 4.4.2 factory image and after that relock the bootloader and reset the tampered flag. Read the OP of the link serveral times so you understand what to do. You will also need adb (android-sdk platform-tools) for this if you haven`t installed it allready.
Link for adb download http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r22.3-windows.zip and here is a link to set it up on your pc http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-set-up-android-adb-and-fastboot-on-windows-tutorial/. Good luck

I apologize if this has been asked, a brief search didn't show anything related.
So due to the recent development it seems like handsets sold in India won't be getting CM updates, but users can manually perform updates, correct?
Has anyone been doing manual updates over the OTA updates? Is the process tedious?

Since there's no loss of warranty when you unlock and tweak this phone, Indian users would be better off doing so and flashing each update like you would flash any other ROM. It's a simple 5 minute process

Flashing a Rom on OnePlus one will clear the internal storage?
Nope. But unlock you bootloader as soon as you get the device since that wipes everything

It's simple. You download the OTA, boot into recovery, flash the OTA, that's it.

No, the only time the internal storage is wiped is when you unlock the bootloader.

So back it up to your PC first. This information is all easily available here on XDA, so a bit of research when buying the phone would have revealed that the best time to unlock the bootloader is when you first receive it.

Even if you don't want to root the device having the bootloader unlocked is insurance in case something goes wrong. If for any reason you need to recover the device, the fastboot images are the best way, and top flash those you need an unlocked bootloader. Just unlock it when you receive the phone, there's no benefit to leaving it locked, and there's no downfall to unlocking it.

Well, without unlocking, you can't root and flash ROMs and tweak your device in any way. Plus, you don't lose warranty. So why not do it?

The Verizon Note 5's bootloader is not unlockable. The OEM unlock switch you refer to under Developer Options simply allows the bootloader to be unlocked IF there is an unlock available for a particular device.
There is no way to unlock the bootloader of the Verizon Note 5.

It's actually not a SIM unlock. It enables bootloader unlock if the phone is eligible for bootloader unlock. If the phone is not eligible for bootloader unlock, and the Verizon Note 5 is not, it is a useless switch. You can turn it on but it does nothing at all.

Selling my Verizon Note 5 today due to battery life issues I can't resolve without root. Fortunately, I have Straight Talk, so almost any CDMA or GSM phone will work. I love the Note 5... and per willmyphonework.net, I should be able to easily jump to a variety of other Note 5 variations that will work... Too bad Verizon...
Other option was a Mophie Juice Pack, but they're not only bulky and slippery, but $100 too... (sigh)

OK I was just reading through the vzw note 5 posts to try and root this thing, and had to comment on this. +1 in agreement to this speaking from personal experience in rooting/modifying devices found here, I've "bricked" plenty of devices but it's all been fixable and yes it's been my fault either missing a step or being impatient and not letting the tools finish the job.
I'm not a developer but if there's any way I can help the cause let me know. I'd like to see root for this device too.
